So i dont like Thai food, hate peanut sauce. Or thought I did, i love this place for food alone! May buy peanut sauce to bring home too. I got 3 entrees, dessert, and appetizer for two people just because it was all so good. Which in turn i ate for all my meals the next days as leftovers, still amazing. The atmosphere and staff and wonderful as well and take deep care in making sure food is gluten free, i appreciate it so much. UPDATE! I'm pretty sure there's new owners or a new chef from a few years ago. My recent visit was soooo disappointing. The beef drunken noodles that I used to love is no longer the same. Great food. The duck curry was really savory. Had a mix of heat and sweet coconut with some pinnappel chunks. The duck had a crispy and I loved it when i found a little duck fat that just melted with flavor. The Khao Soi Curry has a similar flavor profile, but the highlight was the seafood. I really did enjoy the food here. The crispy calamari was so good we had to order another one! It comes in a cute little basket which is good for pictures; but not very practical. We took it out of the basket to share across the table. The tom yum soup, pad thai beef, panang curry, and spicy basil beef were all pretty good too. I was not disappointed and was pretty satisfied after the meal. The only reason I'm giving this a 5 stars was because the waiter was not the friendliest. Yes, he did the bare minimum, which is taking our order, bringing the food out, etc. When we asked him for a sauce, he would bring it out. The only problem was when he opened his mouth to speak because he would always have a very rude tone or had an attitude... But other than that, I'd come back for the food. read more

One thing that is great about the northshore is the plethora of Thai Restaurants. Since moving here I have truly fell in love with Thai food, and count it among my favorite ethnic cuisines. I have been on a quest to find my new favorite place after the closing of That Thai several months ago, but I keep coming up short. Sawasdee was good, but a few issues prevent it from becoming my new go-to spot. The main issue was service. There was only one server working which meant everything took far too long. Even though there were only three other tables, service was abnormally slow. The food was inconsistent. My Tom Yum soup had a great tasting broth, but the chicken was bland and tough. My cashew chicken (prepared Thai hot) was very hot, yet very tasty. This is a difficult combination to master, but their chef did a good job making me sweat from the heat while still enjoying the combination of flavors. My complaint about the main course has more to do with plating than the dish itself. The cashew chicken was served in a large bowl with a side of rice, but no plate on which to mix the two. I guess I should have asked for a separate plate, but I just tried my best to add a little rice to the bowl as I ate. I probably would have asked for a separate plate, but the server wasn't very attentive. Sawasdee has a slightly more upscale feel as compared to many of the other local Thai restaurants. The prices are also slightly higher as a result. I will probably come back to Sawasdee eventually. I just wish I could have finally found my new favorite. read more

Food is amazing here. I've had Pad Thai at many different places and this was bar far the best tasting that I've ever had! My significant other had basil chicken and let me tell you, I almost wanted to switch with him. It's beautiful on the inside, nicely decorated and modern. I have been to this place twice in the past two years. The first time was not very impressive but not bad. However, my experience last night was pretty bad. First of all, they do not currently sell alcohol even though it's still on the menu, so that was the first disappointment. The service was alright although it felt like we were being rushed from the very beginning of our meal even though the place was half empty and they were hours away from closing. My final and biggest gripe that lead to me writing this review is the food. All 4 of the people at the table ordered something different and all were disappointed. The quality was fine but the flavor was very disappointing from a Thai restaurant. I love Thai food and have come to the understanding that it is one of the spicier cuisines in the area, which is a big plus for me. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to matter if you ask for mild, medium, or hot because they will give you mild no matter what you say. read more

Now that we have moved to the North Shore, we are working our way through as many new places as possible in search of the best of everything over here. Sawasdee is the third Thai we've had on the North Shore. All in all, I have to say that Thai food in general is much better over here than in New Orleans- Yippee! Gone are the soupy, wimpy curries and overpriced appetizers and I'm happy to say goodbye to the disappointing Thai in the big easy! Now down to business. Sawasdee Thai: The Decor and general ambiance- Very nice, very clean, and well put together for a location in a little strip plaza. There was nice soft lighting, dark walls and a dark ceiling, and pretty lighting along the wall. The dishes were served up attractively in simple White dishes with condiments such as a sprig of Basil or nicely placed Tomatoes and Cucumbers. The service was excellent- the waitresses were attentive but not overbearing and our iced teas were refilled often. The Food- We started with the Roti with Curry Sauce ($4). This was a simple and delicious starter which we both enjoyed and is hard to find in Louisiana. Roti is a soft, flaky round bread type item and it is normally grilled or seared on both sides so that the outside is crispy and the inside is soft. When dipped in the curry sauce the little treat comes alive with flavor. As I mentioned, we both enjoyed it and would choose it again. My partner also had the Tom Yum soup ($4 Small size, $8 Large size). He's a bit obsessed with Tom Yum since I introduced it to him last year. Anyway, this soup was a bit spicy (I think he went through 2 iced teas while eating it), but with a nice hot/sour flavor as it's suppose to have. It was also loaded with chicken, mushrooms, corn and other veggies so it seemed like a good value and my partner enjoyed it. I tried it and thought the flavor was just as it should be. I might join him and get one myself next time. As a side note, they have a large Tom Yum on their menu under noodles so it appears that they offer this in a large bowl with noodles as well. For the main dish I had Red Curry with Tofu ($12) (a staple favorite of mine and a good way to judge a Thai restaurant in my opinion). The food arrived in a giant bowl dish. I was thrilled because I was starving! The curry was thick with that awesome sweet coconut undertone, and had a nice amount of Tofu and veggies in it. I could have just eaten the curry sauce with a spoon, but I refrained! The flavor of this curry was exactly as I like it. It had a bit of heat but not too much, a touch of sweetness, but not too cloying, and as mentioned earlier, the curry sauce itself was thicker than water which made me very happy. I would get this dish again and I finished my meal completely stuffed and satisfied. I also had a mint iced tea ($2.50 with free refills), which was lovely an refreshing and was served with a lemon wedge and a nice sprig of mint. Nice touch! My partner had the Pineapple Thai fried rice with chicken ($12). He was pretty quiet from that point on and he devoured almost all of it, so he seemed pretty happy to me! Seriously, I tried it and it tasted exactly as it should. A little salty, a little spicy, with lots of fresh veggies and lots of chicken and I liked the addition of the cashews in the rice. It was a really big plate as well and I LOVE getting value for money. All in all, we enjoyed our meal here and I'm sure will be back. It's 5 minutes from our house so it's a nice easy drive as well. If we make it over for lunch one day, I'll update on that as well. I did not give this place 5 stars because it is not the "Best" Thai I have ever had (Beveryl Massachusetts still holds the award for that one)and it is missing a couple of my favorite dishes such as Sticky rice as a side with peanut sauce. But it is actually one of the better Thai I have had so don't hesitate to give this place a try. read more

One of the more elegant Thai restaurants I've ever visited. Much more upscale than my favorite NOLA Thai restaurant, Banana Blossom, on the westbank, which I've heard is somehow related to Sawasdee. I also noted several similarities in the menu, including the best appetizer ever, roti with red curry dipping sauce. The Tom Kah soup here, my barometer of the quality of any Thai eatery, wasn't quite up to par, lacking the flavor, spice and creaminess I'm accounted to. One dish that is amazing, is the yellow curry noodle dish they call Khao Soi, aka Chang Mai noodles at Banana Bossom. If you've not tried this one, do it! The service was outstanding, as well, especially considering this was our waiter's first day on the job! Is Sawasdee worth a trip across the lake?
