Okay, this is my fifth visit here in five months so it's safe to say I'm either a glutton for punishment or that this place is great. Fortunately, it's the later, by a wide margin. Why you ask? Simple, it's great. My reasons: 1) Every time we've been here the service has been great. Not good, great. We've taken the time to meet/talk to the serving staff and they all have been friendly, attentive, and really good at their jobs. We have also met the owners and they too are lovely people. 2) The setting, given that's it's in a small strip mall is great. They have a large patio, plenty of umbrellas as booths, and multiple water features including a water wall. Inside the restaurant is equally beautiful. This is not Chi-Chis or some place trying to faux up the setting. 3) The food is great. If you are looking for typical Americanized Mexican, Spanish, South American food, this is not your place. If you are instead looking for great food that is more interesting, this is the place. For example, tonight we had a chicharron that looked liked two of biggest fried slices of hog heaven you could hope for. It was amazing! We also had the chimichurri sauce which was slightly different from what we have had in the past but it too was awesome! We even asked for some to go to which they said of course. 3) The portion size of most of what we've had over the five visits have almost always fit the price while things such as the steak fajitas were on the generous side for 2026. Bonus, big bonus- They are very dog friendly so your four legged and well behaved dogs are more than welcome in their spacious outdoor patio. And since the tables (not the booths) are not tightly together it's a good place even for the truly big dogs! That about covers it. So bring your fur baby, have a drink (they have some nice concoctions ) and enjoy a restaurant that recreates so many things from one of the owner's youth. Kantunil is a hidden gem that deserves way more hype. This place is consistently amazing -- and somehow never busy, which makes it even more of a treasure. I've tried everything from appetizers to dessert, and not a single dish has disappointed. Every bite is packed with flavor, fresh, and clearly made with care. The aesthetic gives total "I'm-in-Disney-World" vibes -- think epcot. And yes, they totally pixie dust us with samples of drinks (which is such a cute touch). Speaking of drinks, do not skip the cucumber margarita. It's hands-down my favorite and super refreshing. Whether you're planning a romantic dinner, a fun lunch with friends, or just need a quiet spot to catch up over great food and conversation -- Kantunil has you covered. Where has this place been all of my life?? Everything was fantastic. The chips and salsas were delicious, homemade and warm. Service, drinks, food and pricing were all amazing. Best Mexican food in town. Tres chic atmosphere. Tucked away in the corner, I literally almost walked in the wrong door. Don't let the shopping mall fool you, this is a great place to try if you are looking for Mexican. I worked at Garcias of Scottsdale in AZ and I'm hard to please with this type of food. Just discovered this place yesterday! All I can say is the food is first rate. A cut above, I would almost say gourmet. The chips were a cut above, as was the salsa, the unique bean dip, all complementary, and the guacamole was super fresh and delicious. I had chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and it was perfect, with a classy presentation, unique flavor, and ideal quantity, not too much! Ambiance is pleasant despite strip mall location and some traffic noise if you sit outside, from the 190. It's not bad, and did not distract. Service was prompt and very courteous. Oh: the margs were incredible! I had the top shelf and had to control myself not to order a second! We will definitely be back. read more

So back story I was not real happy with Habanero's which used to be here and so I was hesitant to go back. Let's just say I am glad I did... the food is so much better and the service was on point. We started with the house margaritas and our waiter hooked us up with the Happy Hour Specials! The bean dip that comes with the chips is amazing with a little kick and the salsa was also good. I ordered the Asada Fajitas with homemade corn tortillas and it was awesome, my wife got the enchiladas and she loved them as well, then we ordered the corn flan and demolished it! The food was very good. Homemade salsa is so good. The atmosphere was pretty good. The service was ok.

Had a great lunch here the other day came back tonight. The food was still great. Margarita was excellent, but the waitstaff was very bad and the kitchen was very slow took over a half an hour to get one plate. Hopefully these are things that get better and hopefully get more Mexican staff to keep the authenticity at a top level read more

A fantastic experience. Best Mexican/hispanic food in the 100 mile area. We are from south Texas originally with family from Mexico. A small group of us visited Kantunil for Dinner on Saturday evening. The restaurant has a fantastic interior and expansive patio seating, but the service and food leaves a lot to be desired. The food was inconsistent across the table, 3 dishes contained steak, but only 1 of the 3 steaks was well seasoned. Across the table, most of the food was not well seasoned. To top it off, the margaritas were very watered down at $12 a glass. The service was surprisingly poor for a barely filled restaurant, our server had to be flagged down on multiple occasions after 10 minute waits, meanwhile she was in the back with no other tables to occupy her time. read more

We were craving steak fajitas and scoured reviews for our area and several people stated this place had the best fajitas, so we were super excited to try it. When we first walked in, there was only one other couple in the restaurant and the hostess sat us literally right next to them, so we could hear their entire conversation, which was not fun. A husband admonishing his wife for the number of margaritas she's had is not my idea of fun.... The service was terrible. One waitress was handling inside and outside tables, which although there weren't many guests, kept her from coming back very often at all. The steak fajitas were basically inedible. It was mostly a plate of onions with a sliver or two of peppers and the cheapest cut of "steak" that is sold that was so tough and stringy, we didn't eat it. I visited this place for the first time with friends during the day at noon. The waiter Hugo was exceptional. Everything was great from the food to the drinks. It exceeded my expectations. We sat outside and it got really hot so they turned the fans on for us but then it became overbearing so the waiter got us a table inside. Hugo offered great customer service and gave us great recommendations for food and drinks. We are already planning to come back. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place because they get great reviews. The atmosphere was nice- lively and bright. The bar was very small, only 6 people could fit. We sat at a table and were greeted promptly. The service was okay, but our order took forever! And the food was overpriced. We ordered the cauliflower appetizer - as recommended- and it was good. But for $13, I expected a whole cauliflower! Instead it was maybe 6 little florets. The sauce it came in was tasty and I really wanted more cauliflower to finish the sauce! The entree was shrimp, steak, chicken, and sausage with some rice and beans. Again, the portions were small. It only had 2 shrimp, a half link of sausage, very little steak. It was okay, nothing great. I expected alot more. $26 I ordered a side of "street corn" $5. It was the smallest ear of corn, it was boiled and soggy, with cheese crumbles and seasoning on top. So, based on this experience- I have no plans to return. read more

I had the pleasure of dining here about a month ago when visiting my sister and it was the most excellent Mexican food I have had, including Mexico. I drove today from Ocean Springs, MS just to eat lunch and it was worth every penny of gas and time. Unbelievably good, fantastic and attentive service and the restaurant is beautiful. I consider myself a food snob and would highly highly recommend them. Got the queso fundido with steak, and the ground beef chili relleno with rice and sweet plantains. The complimentary salsa, bean dip, and homemade chips are to die for. 5 stars!!!!! read more

This New Mexican place on Hwy 190 is a little hard to find, but go. (It's in the same building as the Outdoor Living Center). Elevated Mexican Cuisine, great margaritas, contemporary decor, a large secluded courtyard for when the weather cools down. I had a grilled chimichanga covered in queso. My wife had two street tacos.
