Every time we come here we wonder why it's not packed! The food is so good, fresh and it's the cutest place. They even have a cute outside area for cooler days. Best pineapple margarita ever! Every margarita we have had there has been great, made with fresh ingredients. no pre made drinks here. We love to try the Flan whenever we try a New Mexican place and this is the best, most authentic we have found. Highly recommend! read more

After tonight I will never go back. Like many places that start out great. Service and quality went down hill fast . Sat at the bar waiting on a friend. Owner ignores me. Has (1) to go order and one other person whom he is talking to , having a shot and making the same guy a to go drink. Never acknowledges me. Never offers a drink menu or a food menu. Continues chatting with the one guy. About 15 people in the restaurant. . Have to ask for a drink menu , then had to ask for a food menu. HAD TO ASK .!!!! Seriously in place that had 2 people at the bar and about 15 people in the restaurant. Owner attitude bad. A waitress was trying to wait on me at the bar and she was confused, not her fault. The owner was a jerk. Like I am doing him a favor spending money in his place. Queso was like water Bye!!! Went to Don's seafood where the hostess pulled out my chair and bartender had a glass of water, drink and food menu before my ass hit the seat. Bar and restaurant busy and those folks understood the assignment. Good work ladies! I eat out a lot and appreciate the folks who work the restaurant industry So many Mexican restaurants with better food and service. Adios Kantunil. Learn how to manage 3 people at the bar! read more

Kantunil is a hidden gem that deserves way more hype. This place is consistently amazing -- and somehow never busy, which makes it even more of a treasure. I've tried everything from appetizers to dessert, and not a single dish has disappointed. Every bite is packed with flavor, fresh, and clearly made with care. The aesthetic gives total "I'm-in-Disney-World" vibes -- think epcot. And yes, they totally pixie dust us with samples of drinks (which is such a cute touch). Speaking of drinks, do not skip the cucumber margarita. It's hands-down my favorite and super refreshing. Whether you're planning a romantic dinner, a fun lunch with friends, or just need a quiet spot to catch up over great food and conversation -- Kantunil has you covered. Can't recommend it enough. read more

First, the atmosphere was amazing. You feel like you stepped into another country and are on vacation. The chips, the size of the bean dip that they bring you out at first or so good you could fill up on that. But don't do it because wait until the food comes, it's unbelievable how delicious everything is. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. This is my new fave on the Northshore and you don't have to break the bank to eat there. Don't miss out on trying this place!! read more

Top notch dining in a hidden corner with true Mexican flavor and artisan tacos. I had the carnitas....excellent! My entire meal was delicious. Somebody is really cooking in this kitchen, you can taste the slow food, deep stocks paring with bright garnishes. Im delighted this place is in my neighborhood! The interior is super cool too, and the have outside dining. Music is Carlos Santana instrumental. Prices are average, an excellent value for the experience. My new favorite Mexican place. read more

Okay, this is my fifth visit here in five months so it's safe to say I'm either a glutton for punishment or that this place is great. Fortunately, it's the later, by a wide margin. Why you ask? Simple, it's great. My reasons: 1) Every time we've been here the service has been great. Not good, great. We've taken the time to meet/talk to the serving staff and they all have been friendly, attentive, and really good at their jobs. We have also met the owners and they too are lovely people. 2) The setting, given that's it's in a small strip mall is great. They have a large patio, plenty of umbrellas as booths, and multiple water features including a water wall. Inside the restaurant is equally beautiful. This is not Chi-Chis or some place trying to faux up the setting. 3) The food is great. If you are looking for typical Americanized Mexican, Spanish, South American food, this is not your place. If you are instead looking for great food that is more interesting, this is the place. For example, tonight we had a chicharron that looked liked two of biggest fried slices of hog heaven you could hope for. It was amazing! We also had the chimichurri sauce which was slightly different from what we have had in the past but it too was awesome! We even asked for some to go to which they said of course. 3) The portion size of most of what we've had over the five visits have almost always fit the price while things such as the steak fajitas were on the generous side for 2026. Bonus, big bonus- They are very dog friendly so your four legged and well behaved dogs are more than welcome in their spacious outdoor patio. And since the tables (not the booths) are not tightly together it's a good place even for the truly big dogs! That about covers it. So bring your fur baby, have a drink (they have some nice concoctions ) and enjoy a restaurant that recreates so many things from one of the owner's youth. And if you can sit outside, you will enjoy it even more! As always, apologies for my usually long and hopefully epic review. Cheers and happy dining all! read more

This is a welcome departure from the run of the mill Tex Mex served at every other Mexican restaurant in this area. The food is clearly prepared to order and consistently beautiful and first class. We have eaten here many times, ordered a number of different items and all have been outstanding. Visitors we have taken have consistently been surprised that we have a Mexican restaurant of this quality in the New Orleans area. The owner is usually present and welcoming as is the staff. If there is a negative it's that the food, because it's made to order, can take a bit longer to prepare than at the typical mexican restaurants in this area. read more

a hidden covington gem! menu is creative and delicious. very fun atmosphere inside and on the patio, can't wait to go back!

So back story I was not real happy with Habanero's which used to be here and so I was hesitant to go back. Let's just say I am glad I did... the food is so much better and the service was on point. We started with the house margaritas and our waiter hooked us up with the Happy Hour Specials! The bean dip that comes with the chips is amazing with a little kick and the salsa was also good. I ordered the Asada Fajitas with homemade corn tortillas and it was awesome, my wife got the enchiladas and she loved them as well, then we ordered the corn flan and demolished it! We walked out full and happy! Will be back! read more

A fantastic experience. Best Mexican/hispanic food in the 100 mile area. We are from south Texas originally with family from Mexico. The service from Amelia was incredible Friendly and knowledgeable from the menu. Giving us great recommendations. Excellent appetizers. No nickel and dime Bull. Free chips and hot sauce with a wonderful bean dip before the apps. Great 3 way appetizer. Queso. Bean dip with chorizo and guacamole. Excellent enchilada with a beef and bean chalupa. Felt like I was eating in Mexico. Excellent tacos a la carte. Fish taco fantastic. Great picadillo taco. Excellent steak taco. This is a restaurant that is not to be missed. Amazing. A small group of us visited Kantunil for Dinner on Saturday evening. The restaurant has a fantastic interior and expansive patio seating, but the service and food leaves a lot to be desired. The food was inconsistent across the table, 3 dishes contained steak, but only 1 of the 3 steaks was well seasoned. Across the table, most of the food was not well seasoned. To top it off, the margaritas were very watered down at $12 a glass. The service was surprisingly poor for a barely filled restaurant, our server had to be flagged down on multiple occasions after 10 minute waits, meanwhile she was in the back with no other tables to occupy her time. read more

Food was terrible Service was terrible. Everybody was standing around looking at the phones even when were looking right at them in need of drink. Ambiance was fine but they didn't do anything different that I could tell from when Haberno's was located there read more

We were craving steak fajitas and scoured reviews for our area and several people stated this place had the best fajitas, so we were super excited to try it. When we first walked in, there was only one other couple in the restaurant and the hostess sat us literally right next to them, so we could hear their entire conversation, which was not fun. A husband admonishing his wife for the number of margaritas she's had is not my idea of fun.... The service was terrible. One waitress was handling inside and outside tables, which although there weren't many guests, kept her from coming back very often at all. The steak fajitas were basically inedible. It was mostly a plate of onions with a sliver or two of peppers and the cheapest cut of "steak" that is sold that was so tough and stringy, we didn't eat it. Very disappointed and will definitely not be back. read more

I visited this place for the first time with friends during the day at noon. The waiter Hugo was exceptional. Everything was great from the food to the drinks. It exceeded my expectations. Hugo offered great customer service and gave us great recommendations for food and drinks. We are already planning to come back. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place because they get great reviews. The atmosphere was nice- lively and bright. The bar was very small, only 6 people could fit. We sat at a table and were greeted promptly. The service was okay, but our order took forever! And the food was overpriced. We ordered the cauliflower appetizer - as recommended- and it was good. But for $13, I expected a whole cauliflower! Instead it was maybe 6 little florets. The sauce it came in was tasty and I really wanted more cauliflower to finish the sauce! The entree was shrimp, steak, chicken, and sausage with some rice and beans. Again, the portions were small. It only had 2 shrimp, a half link of sausage, very little steak. It was okay, nothing great. I expected alot more. $26 I ordered a side of "street corn" $5. It was the smallest ear of corn, it was boiled and soggy, with cheese crumbles and seasoning on top. So, based on this experience- I have no plans to return. read more
