Don't go here for margaritas. My friend and I each had one drink, no extra shots, no apps, not even chips and salsa. The bill came and it was $60! They had a fee of $8 "bar tax" in addition to regular tax. Not one employee could explain to us what "Bar tax" meant, we didn't even sit at the bar, we were at a table on the patio. I had a regular size margarita and my friend ordered a small but they brought her the next size up and charged heavily for it. We used to love meeting here for a drink occasionally. First time dining at this restaurant. It had begun raining shortly before we dined in. After placing an order, I realized the front entrance of the parking lot began to hold a large amount of water. So I had to move my vehicle. The hostess said the parking lot was recently re-done. Be mindful of parking by entrance if it's storming. I tried the sangria, house margarita and then a more expensive margarita with better tequila. The sangria wasn't worth the price I paid. The sangria tasted like a red blend wine that was somewhat watered down with an orange slice thrown in. The house margarita was awful. The house margarita tasted like a premixed margarita mix from Walmart with the cheapest shot of tequila thrown in. The more expensive margarita was decent, but not worth the high price. Be mindful when ordering the alcoholic drinks, the prices on the physical menu are for the small sizes. For instance I believe the George's Especial Margarita was $12.50 on menu, however I got a large and I believe receipt said $22.50. The menus you find online are incorrect relative to the prices. The physical menus in the restaurant, the prices have increased by $1-$3 on food and drinks. The restaurant charges what appeared to be 4% credit card surcharge. The food was decent tasting however it seems the portion sizes are small. I got the carne asada and the meat was barely enough for 2 flour tortillas. Your first order you get $5 off, and then if you do the rewards program, eventually you get free food. The service and waitresses were wonderful, however overall this restaurant is a 3 Star max. I will not be returning. There are better options for Mexican food nearby. read more

I am giving them a 2 star only because the service here was pretty good, and 1 star would take away from that. Everything was brought out promptly, and the servers were very friendly. That being said, we decided to go to George's for the first time, and we were pretty disappointed. I feel like I've been to so many Mexican restaurants (since that is so common in this area), and this was the worst by a long shot. We went because I have seen cars lined up on the service road many times. I thought that SURELY it must be good, but I am seriously questioning the people that line up to go there. My date and I ordered house drinks (a sangria and a margarita). They were just meh...not terrible, but not my favorite. The salsa and the sour cream were my favorite things I got from there. I ordered a plain white queso, and he ordered a queso with chorizo. I could not get more than a few bites into my queso before I just thought, "this isn't worth the calories." My date did not order anything else, but I decided to get the meal of 3 chicken hard tacos (what I get at most Mexican restaurants). The taco shells reminded me of great value, but they honestly were not bad--it was the chicken that was awful. I ate the first taco and thought it was okay (I was super hungry and had not really had much queso). I started on the second taco, and I could not finish it. I kept getting a "boiled in dirty water" taste from the meat. I tried the 3rd one just to make sure and same thing....i think my hunger masked how awful it was. So there I was, disappointed to say the least, and when we get the check, it was $52 (including a 20% tip). I would rather go to Taco Bell and spend $52 than go back. I decided not to complain about the food to them because it wasn't just one thing--it was everything, and I'm not sure what they can do to fix it. I hope they try so they can keep those lines, but at this rate, I can't see it continuing to be successful. read more

We have been regular customers there for over 20 years. They have some of the best authentic Mexican food. We always enjoy ourselves there.

Service was wonderful, the owner was very attentive, and the dip trio was awesome. However, the kitchen failed us with timing. While my wife's filet came out nice and hot (slightly overcooked, but a nice size!) nothing else did. My daughter had cold steak nachos and all of my food was less than room temp. The actual plates were HOT, but they had obviously been under a heat lamp waiting on the filet. Our kind server offered to remake my plate. My taco was remade and my other plate was thrown in a microwave and served to me again. Absolutely not remade. Food was still cold, but the plate was even hotter. We may try again, but I'm so disappointed. It started off so well. We also went at 3, so there were only about five tables in the restaurant. read more

Holy moly! 4pm on a Saturday...we are the only customers and I'm thrilled! VIP service! Table side guacamole was fast and super yummy! Put it all in there! It was flavorful and tasty and, well, FRESH! Fajitas were super hot and all the flavors made me keep asking for more tortillas to eat every last bit! Salsa is mild but fresh...all the veggies come through with bright flavor. Huge tip went to the waitress. I hope the next time we roll in it's just as empty...but it shouldn't be! I just discovered this place on Sunday. First of all the salsa is pure love. It is spiced just right with a little zing. Not too much? But just right. We ordered lunch for 3 - and ended up having lunch and had enough for 3 more meals. I can't wait to further explore their menu. I heard that the owner used to work elsewhere, wanted to cook and they wouldn't let him. Loss for them. Big win for Mandeville. This place has been here awhile. So, so glad he opened his own place!! The guacamole tasted like it was out of a bag. The queso cooled and was rubbery and inedible. The beans and rice were completely tasteless. Even the birria taco lacked flavor. That was all bad enough, but my entire family was up all night with stomach issues. Our son even threw up and then started feeling better. This was on a Saturday night. I called to tell the owner's on Sunday. They didn't care at all. This place was good 10 years ago. Now the food and owner are equally awful. read more

The best part of eating here was sitting outside. We ordered some guacamole and Chile con queso for appetizers. The guacamole obviously came out of a jar with an expiration date. So did the queso. Neither was made from scratch and neither was very good. The basket of chips were good but the salsa was not. The chili relleno was decent. Plenty of parking and service was ok. You can do better. George's has good, reasonable priced Mexican Food. When I first moved to the Northshore I was surprised at the quantity of good restaurants. Because there were so many there were several I tried that I had not been back to in some time. George's was one of those places. When my brother suggested we meet there for lunch, I was excited to go back. The restaurant is located in a strip mall off of the N Causeway service road. While not difficult to get to, it seems like a place you wouldn't stumble upon if you didn't know it was there. The meal started with complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was somewhat thick, but seemed blended to a even texture. I am personally a fan of chunkier salsa, but their version was not bad. My main course was steak fajitas. They were very good, but there was a slight issue. My brother ordered the same thing although his plate seemed to have less meat than mine. His loss and my gain I guess. My one issue with the accompanying plate was that there was no sour cream. Th server did bring me a side when ordered, but every other place I've been has this as a standard with fajitas. Service was excellent. Our server did a great job tending to our large table and was incredibly nice. In summary, I like George's and need to remember to add it into the rotation. read more

I made a togo order and they were clearly offended when I asked why it costs so much more than listed on their menu. Apparently they charge half a dollar per to go container. And just being totally honest here....their nachos don't even hold a candle to carretas. Baking sharp cheddar and giant chunks of chicken onto a pan is just chips with too much cheddar.....and I paid $2 extra to get it to go. If you ever visit, bring Tupperware or you'll be charged extra. You guys suck read more

Great spot.. everyone is so nice and accommodating especially for special orders and changing a dish for you.. The food is great .. you can customize your nachos.. I always ask for shredded cheese, plain black beans, guacamole, salsa, pico de Gallo , Xtra fresh jalapeños and get grilled shrimp on top .. it's the best!!! I honestly don't know what happened at George's. It has literally been our favorite Mexican restaurant for years. Today we went and it was awful. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce with garlic powder and something in the steak fajitas tasted bad. Like maybe they used old vegetables. The water even tasted funky. There were 4 tables occupied and two servers and the service was slow and sub par at best. I hope it's just a bad day in the kitchen, but I'm honestly not sure I want to go back to find out. read more

Went for lunch today and food was awful. The food had no taste at all and the nachos had small pieces of dried overcooked beef. This food came out from kitchen in about 5 minutes so obviously not freshly prepared. It did not taste fresh at all. Will never go back and wish I had not wasted my time and money. read more

Really messed up my 50th birthday celebration. My wife had called and spoke. to the owner and reserved the entire outdoor patio at a price of $150, steep considering 20+ were going to spend a lot on food and drinks but we wanted the privacy. However when my wife got there early to set up some decorations there was another party arriving. Turns out the owner double booked the patio and the other party was already starting. They tried to pull some tables together in the bar for us but my wife said it was too crowded and too loud and we weren't going to be happy with it. Luckily she went down the street to St Anne Wine Bar and got their private room FOR FREE! and my people who came had fun. I was pretty upset the whole time because it wasn't what we were hoping for but I thank the people at St Anne for helping us pull it off. As for George's, we used to eat there a lot, even used them to cater my daughter's graduation party. NO MORE! Done with them! read more

We sat on the patio for lunch. The lunch menu has some good bargains compared to the rest of the menu. I found the food to be pretty good. Nothing too creative out of the ordinary Tex Mex, but they do it pretty well. The service was great, and the food came out really fast. read more

Deceptively delicious food! Strip mall type location so we weren't expecting a lot. Food was delicious! I ordered off the slim fit menu - shrimp lettuce wrap. I was expecting some shrimp wrapped in lettuce with some avocado and vegetables. What came were three taco shaped lettuce wraps, the lettuce was filled with grilled green peppers and onions, grilled shrimp topped with a slice of avocado. Quite good and easy to eat. Even better when I added their salsa. I had also ordered crabmeat stuffed jalapenos that came with queso Blanco on the side. I had trouble finishing the lettuce wrap tacos so the jalapenos came home for later. My friend ordered a steak burrito with Mexican sour cream, queso Blanco and guacamole with rice and beans on the side. He was only able to eat half of the burrito it was so large. He says it was the best burrito he has ever had! He didn't touch the beans and rice as the 1/2 of the burrito was enough. The leftovers were packaged for eating later. We will definitely be back. I want to see if their food remains consistent. I sure hope so. It was really good and reasonable price. I'll try a margarita next time too! Great everything. The dimmed lights give it a cozy feeling and servers are attentive and friendly. Tasty margaritas, authentic tacos, and can't beat the steak la parilla for $16. I was looking for a good place to go for a happy hour and looked at their website which advertised $1 margaritas and $2 tacos on Tuesday. Went in and they told me their website needed to be updated. I did get a margarita that tasted funky. It was $4 and after ordering it I was told that I could not get the taco special. I landed on a taco salad which was ok. Came across this place on our way home and the food was honestly pretty good. I got the "burritos" plate which just had shredded chicken wrapped in a flower tortilla that came covered in cheese and chilly with a side of lettuce, beans and rice and I gotta say the shredded chicken was good because it wasn't dry. It wasn't amazing or anything but I was satisfied. The only let down was that they didn't have any aguas frescas and we did have a small food complaint about the beans smelling and tasting kinda funky but they quickly took care of it. I wouldn't mind coming here again but it would never be my first choice for a Mexican restaurant. read more

George's offers some of the best Mexican food in the area. The portions are great, the taste is authentic, fresh, and delicious. The service is always top notch and the food is prepared quickly. The cons are the price of all the seafood dishes and the parking isn't the greatest. All in all, I recommend George's if you are looking for some good Mexican cuisine. read more

This place has really gone downhill. Woefully unprepared for Cinco de Mayo and totally unorganized. First time I've ever been told I couldn't order food because they are too busy. Cash bar without change for a $20. No frozen drinks. Lots of people complaining and leaving. We too have left never to return as many of our group have permanently opted out also.
