Decided to try Lago on a Tuesday night. We were seated right away. My waiter didn't understand enough English to answer all my questions, but he was able to take our order. I got the street tacos which were delicious but different than any tacos I've ever had. The steak was cooked with pineapple and chorizo. It came with very good beans and garlicky guacamole and the spiciest dipping sauce I've ever had! Hubby got the special fajitas which also had chorizo, "ribeye" (tasted like round steak) and chicken. Well, we just wasted money again.... shrimp tacos...just terrible burnt on one side and not fully cooked on the other side. Pork tacos....no seasoning plus the tortillas tasted terrible. Cheese dip...it was not cheese, mostly milk, no taste. Steak burrito....Granted, my teenager ate all his food. No complaints. He will eat anything! If you have never eaten real Mexican food like in the west or text Max iin Texas or in old Mexico Then you probably have no idea what good Mexican food actually taste like. Say it with me: Meat Lovers Fajitas Picture Grilled chicken breast, grilled ribeye, jumbo shrimp, roasted pulled pork, spicy chorizo sausage, onion and peppers sizzling on a plate. Sounds good doesn't it? That is because it is freakin awesome. Still not convinced? Ok then listen up. Sure all those meats sound delicious, but do they taste good? Hell yes they do. So I love Lagos. When you first walk in, it's clear that they clean, clean and clean some more. It's always has that freshly cleaned smell, which I appreciate and so do others because it's often packed for lunch. So far, these are the best Tamales in Mandeville! I can have a quick, reasonably priced lunch with friendly service in a clean restaurant. BRAVO. This is my go to place. Very much repeatable. Do yourself a favor and check them out. This place gets five stars for the service alone! Ok, not really, you gotta have the eats(they do!). What a great staff here; kudos for being such amazing hosts. Our drinks were always filled, the food was served hot, all special requests were honored with alacrity. Great meal! The salsa is chunky, too much so for my tastes, and there isn't enough cilantro. Still, it was hobbled up on the crispy chips along with some queso for the little queen to dip her crunchy tacos in. The crunchy tacos from the a la carte section of the menu were quite good. And, yes, I tried it dipped in the queso - good call, kid. The Devil's Shrimp tacos were delicious! Three corn tortillas filled with big shrimp, avocado and cilantro, with limes for squeezin'. Mmm, mmm, I will be back for these! Well, until I tasted the wife's Steal Fajita Salad, anyway. Man, was that GOOD! The whole dish came together really well, from the perfectly cooked steak to the grilled veggies (grilled peppers and onions) and crispy salad, along with a yummy dressing. I finished her salad for her and walked out of their whining about how full I was, but wishing there was more. :) We hadn't been here in a while, but the place was full at 9PM on a Friday with only a couple seats open. Lago is definitely our Go-To for Mexican food in Mandeville. Service is great. Staff is friendly. Everything is fresh and delicious. I have tried several items on the menu and have never had anything I didn't love. I do always default back to a Chile Relleno and Carnitas taco mexican style... Their Chile Relleno is AMAZING. Visiting from out of town and been sampling local Mexican restaurants. Saw the reviews for this place and the positives out numbered the negatives but the menu prices won us over, great decision to go. The food was fabulous ( we've been eating Mexican food for forty years, a lot in Mexico. This is the best we've had in the Mandeville area. Choriqueso came out bubbling and sizzling, was devine. Margaritas (top shelf) were definitely top shelf, great taste and plenty of tequila (Don Julio). Had the house special fajitas and the carnitas. The fajitas were smoking and sizzling and were absolutely delicious. The carnitas were the best we've ever had here, if you like pork don't pass on this. Our waiter Samuel was an engaging and knowledgeable of the menu, very accommodating. Three of us gives this a ten out of ten. Will be back for more. read more

The food is good! I started with a Mango Margarita which was great! The chips and salsa are good but also mild. The white queso is just okay to me. For my entrée I had the fajita shrimp quesadillas and they're huge! I barely made a dent in them but they had lots of flavor. The service here is great as well. I've been here twice within 2 weeks due to the pure awesomeness with my twins and my mom. The servers are so friendly and it's definitely a kid/family friendly place. The prices are great and the food is amazing. I ordered the molcajete for myself and I am completely addicted. The chicken and rice plate from the kids menu was a very large serving for the price and it tasted delicious. My mom had a chicken quesadilla and she said it was delicious; probably the best quesadilla that she ever ordered. We also shared both types of the guacamole they offer and are in love. One of the best places to eat around and definitely the best Mexican style food. I highly recommend Lagos for anyone in the mood to take a trip south of the border because eating here definitely won't be regretted. Most menus at other places have photos of the dishes that are deceiving but at Lagos the pictures don't lie! In fact, the dish that does arrive is a lot larger and tastier than it seems on the menu. I live about 40 minutes away from here but I can definitely say it is worth the drive! read more

Food was ok , service was a little slow although it was later in the evening . Margaritas were ok .

Where's the flavor? The salsa is bland. The fajita trio is bland, and the steak in it is drier than the Sahara desert (and the chicken not much better). The fajitas for two is large enough to feed four - but it's not worth eating :-( It just dawned on me... fajitas are generally served "sizzling" and these were not. Makes we think that it was pre-cooked and just heated up to be served. Regardless, it was still terrible. read more
