OK, I admit upfront. I'm a gringo Cajun gringo at that so I do love spicy food. El portal has no idea what spice actually means their food is incredibly bland. The only thing I really enjoyed was their bean dip cover with that crappy white cheese. I really don't believe they even know what queso is. Their chili Reno sucked. They can't get the order correctly whether it is on the phone or in person. They need someone who can understand and speak basic english to answer their phone to get orders and someone who has manners. The female who answers the phone just disappear in the middle of conversation and you can hear her talking to in person customers without telling you to hold on and then just hang up. And when you call back, she said she cannot understand taco steak. hahaha. they are losing customers because of her bad manners and poor communication skills. read more

We had the five enchilada entre and the single tamale/single enchilada combo with beans and rice. It was some of the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten, which is sad, because until today, it was my favorite type of cuisine. The poorest quality of ingredients and the poorest presentation. I'm actually hoping I don't get sick from what I did eat. I should have gotten up and left when I saw the plates, but I was in denial because of previous experiences at other Mexican places I've eaten. Came here after a long day on the river, when it shouldn't have been difficult to please. Somehow, left not pleased. The lady ordered the chicken enchilada with salsa verde. She noted that the meat seemed to be of high quality, and the sauce good. I had an enchilada, as well as a chile relleno. Both were remarkably unremarkable. The chile relleno had ground beef in it, which was not mentioned on the menu, and was an unpleasant surprise. My margarita was without question from a store-bought mix, and a bad one at that. The lady had a flavored margarita (can't remember which flavor now), and it was even more artificial-tasting than mine. Not the worst, but do not plan on returning. read more

Our server was very lovely and very attentive. However, upon going to check out, a short gentleman finally emerged from the kitchen wiping his shirt. Walked up to the register with a negative, don't-wanna be here attitude. He rang up the couple in front of up, no greeting or thank you. Then my mom walked up, before she finished asking for a glass for her tea, he had rudely grabbed her cup, handed to another lady to go get it and then told her "the cup wasn't allowed at the counter because it might spill on people's money and the counter" (THERE WAS NO MONEY ON THE COUNTER!) She then handed him her cash and then asked if the rest could be on her card. HE RUDELY Threw his phone on the counter, grabbed the card scanner and plugged it in, telling her "it might work". Finally she asked for a receipt, (they weren't able to print due to the Hurricane, I get it) BUT it's the fact that he looked at her, stepped back and asked her "where would she like him to print it!"
