We tried this spot while in Covington and it was a pleasant surprise. The table chips and salsa were really good. The chips were thin and homemade which came to the table hot and the salsa was delicious. I got a shrimp taco salad and yuca fries both were fresh and tasty. I'll definitely come back. The hubs got birria tacos which he also liked.
I'm updating to add some photos of the food as promised AND because you need to see the food! It's so incredible. We have been back a few more times already. I want to emphasize that I often find that sometimes you get better food when you eat in than to go at some places. At least in my opinion. That is not true at Nacho Kat. Our orders to go are every bit what we would get dining in. My partner got the Parilladas on a recent visit. He loved them! So much variety and it was all delicious! I tasted it all as well. He kept saying, you need to taste how good this is. Ha ha.., As usual, everyone working there are so helpful and incredibly nice. On our last visit, we had been out later after work, running errands. I looked at my partner and noted it was Taco Tuesday at Nacho Kat, but it was getting close to their closing time. We arrived about 5-10 mins before close and I ran in and asked if it was too late to place an order for tacos and they said no problem. We were the last people out with our to go order after their close time. Our order was delicious as every other time. Such great customer service. They care that their customers always have quality food. As usual, the dining area was spotless and the casual conversation with one of their new employees while we waited for our order was awesome! It was her first day and she did a great job! Look at this amazing food! Are you on your way yet?!
My wife and I met family for our first visit to Nacho Kat in Covington and enjoyed the experience. Nacho Kat has only been around for a month or so and judging from the crowd on this weeknight, they are doing well. Their strip mall location is quite small, only nine or ten tables, but decor is tasteful and contemporary and table service is friendly and welcoming. Judging from the name, I guess i was expecting pretty much standard Tex-Mex fare, but was pleasantly surprised with a menu featuring interesting takes on a range of Latin American dishes. Chips, salsa, and queso were good to start. We then enjoyed "Cuban" quesadillas, soft tacos, street corn nachos, and I had a "protein" bowl that was served hot skillet style and contained a tasty mix of chicken, beefsteak, corn, rice, black beans, salsa, guacamole, etc. Helpings were generous and prices were competitive. Again, Nacho Kat's chief challenge is their very small size, but if you can't get a table they do take-out. I'm pleased to recommend Nacho Kat.
I got to give it to this little place. They do a very good job for the space they have to work with. Mexican Street corn is very good. The queso is very good. The nachos were huge. Only problem was the meat was cold. Otherwise, I would've given them a five star rating.
Chorizo Queso, Birria Burrito, and American style chicken and beef tacos. Everything was great. Chips and salsa were good. Fresh and delicious!
Nacho Kat just opened this week. It is very clean; and the atmosphere is very welcoming and casual. There are 5 or six tables that will seat four. The owner was warm, pleasant, and accommodating. The menu is extensive. I placed a to-go order of two tacos a la carte. 1. Shredded chicken on flour tortilla, American style. I opted to have the "fried cheese," which meant that they toasted the flour tortilla with the cheese in it before adding the filling. It had a generous portion of shredded chicken that is seasoned like I like it (cumin is definitely an ingredient). Topped with lettuce and tomato. Very good! 2. Mahi Mahi. I asked if they had cabbage slaw, curtido, or something that they could put on the taco. She said "sure we can we can make that." Woo hoo! Again, a very generous portion of fish, and the taco was delicious! I highly recommend trying out this new small business in Covington. If you love tacos and Latin food, I think you will like it.
Another great meal! The ambiance is. It for everyone, as it is very small. But I stopped in for a quick bite by myself. The sever had just moved here and he talked to me a good bit while I ate, which was fine. I ordered something new and am so glad I did! Shrimp empanadas are now my new favorite thing. I also got the Yucca fries because they are delicious. So, for $20 including the $5 tip- I got 2 empanadas with fresh shrimp, 4 Yucca fries, and a small queso for the chips they bring out. I had water to drink.
Every meal my party had ordered has been 10/10 for flavor, quality, portion size, and plating. This restaurant is a rare fusion success story with an obscure name. Take a chance if you appreciate authentic cooking, bold flavors, and epic portions. Pozole rojo (forgot to photo) is my number 1 favorite especially in the lovely cold weather. Expect 5-10min longer from the kitchen with the prep and cook. You won't be disappointed. Cheers!
I'm gonna go ahead and apologize...but I just wrote a book. It's the next day after eating and I wish they were open today. I would probably go for lunch haha. Several times a month I work in this neighborhood and have seen the restaurant coming soon and now it's been open almost a year but never stopped. It's in a run down strip mall with dollar general on the same strip next to the rouses at Claiborne hill. It is not much to look at and the name didn't yell "we got hella good food" so I never stopped. When going to dinner with a friend he said he had been wanting to try so I said that's fine. OMG you need to not sleep on this!!! My daughter had googled it earlier in the day and was reading stuff and texted me the zesty fish bowl, so I already knew that was what I was ordering. We didn't arrive until 8:30. End of the night. (We compensated our server well for the excellent service and late night but we were not the last to leave. Another table of 4 was there and the owner I assume spent a lot of time there visiting with them and he also stopped at spoke with us towards the end of our meal) They were just as polite to us and served us like we were beginning dinner service. They brought us out our chips and salsa and drinks and you know how you taste the salsa and you get a feeling how the food is gonna be based on the salsa...well i am a huge cilantro fan and from the first bite of the salsa I told my friend this is going to be good. We ordered the yuca fries because neither of us had ever had them before. They were so good. We tried without the house dipping sauce first and loved them. The sauce was ok but was pretty much just a zingy Mayo and ketchup. I added a little habanero hot sauce and enjoyed it more. I saw someone review them 2 stars saying paper napkins and self service at the cooler of drinks. That was not our case. We had cloth napkins and they served us fountain drinks. So I ordered the zesty fish and shrimp bowl. It arrived before my friend's tacos so we tried each component of the dish. The cilantro lime rice was good. The corn was just plain can corn. The fish smelled a bit fishy but tasted great...nothing off putting. The dressing, though I didn't read the description of it, tasted like a mellow maybe Avacodo cream base with cilantro. Tasted great just tasting it and was excellent when I dipped a shrimp in it. I loved my dish once I mixed it all together even more. I would 100% order it again. My friend ordered the birria tacos. He got to choose the sides and I was happy when he ordered the street corn side because I wanted to taste and as the 2nd friend got plantains. His dish I'll only give a 9/10. While the tacos were to die for and I enjoyed the plantains. Nice and sweet, the corn was canned corn. Now don't get me wrong, I've had amazing street corn that they would give you canned corn if you ordered a bowl and on the cob if you ordered that...from food trucks. Typically I've always seen with Mayo, tajin, cotija cheese or queso fresco, some lime and cilantro. The side was blah. It had the cheese and tajin and cilantro and a lime on the side, but nothing creamy in it like Mayo and I could taste that it was canned and tasted a lot of sour notes from the tajin and lime but really craved something cream like to tone down the overpowering sour notes. Corn is in season right now and very cheap...possibly have an all hands on deck corn day and go straight from farm to immediate shuck and strip from Cobb and freeze so it's fresh??? It is one of the best looking sides in the picture so I'm sure they get a lot of orders. I'll have to look at more reviews and see if more people agreed it was lacking. So if you are looking for an amazing hidden gem...I 100% recommend this place. Will for sure be stopping during lunch when I'm working in neighborhood. Interested to see if they have daily lunch specials or a taco Tuesday special.
The food was delicious! I got the Columbia empanadas and the Fajita trio tacos. Wow! The service was great, Ani knew so much about the menu. I can't wait to come back and try everything! The place is very cute with a great vibe and authentic Latin music!

What an outstanding meal! I ordered the street corn nachos and added shrimp and extra cilantro. The portion was generous, enough to take it home and have a second meal. Absolutely yummy. Margarita was good, too. Service was a little slow, but our server mentioned she'd only been there three weeks. So, I can forgive that. The owner visited our table and was very friendly. I'm already planning my return trip with a group of friends. read more

I visited for lunch and discovered a thin plastic-like piece of twine - looks like fishing line -in my refried beans. I showed it to our server, who took it and brought it to the back and then came back without it to tell me a pepper stem--but it clearly wasn't. My degree is in textiles and I actually told her how she could determine if it was plastic versus a pepper stem. She asked if I wanted to speak to the owners and I said no that's okay I'll just handle it with a review. Instead, I've decided to handle it with a complaint to the Department of Health. If the owners care so little about food safety that's probably the best way to address having a foreign object in your food. The server was professional and I think she thought I was stiff her but I left a 20% tip because she did a great job even though our food took nearly 40 minutes and this situation is not in her control. Unfortunately, the item was kept by the mysterious owners (I was given the impression they were working in the back) before I could test it further. However, I did grab it by both ends because it was about two to two and a half inches long and it would not break. It was whitish translucent and felt like a very fine plastic filament and nothing like the pepper stem she had me look at. I've filed a formal complaint with the health department to help prevent food contamination in the future. Mistakes happen, but food safety matters. I hope the restaurant takes action and ensures better quality control. read more
