Went for a birthday celebration, so it was a good bit of people. The restaurant itself was noce and clean and was definitely able to accommodate us comfortably. They have a room section off that holds about 50 ppl. They also have 4 TV's in that area. The music was really loud, so we kinda was yelling, but it's all good. The server was nice. He wasn't very attentive, but he did his job. The food was good, tasteful, and seasoned well. However, there is only cheese Quesadilla's, and when you order a protein, it's extra, so you can't just order a shrimp.or chicken Quesadilla. I did like how they put the toppings in a little taco bowl kinda thing. I got a small virgin daiquiri, and it was expensive. My fault, I didn't ask the price The bean dip is actually a queso bean dip, so you have to be specific when ordering if you just want bean dip only. Fantastic food!! Service was a bit off, but the food is worth it. The pico de gallo is perfect- a bit of jalapeño, lots of cilantro- just perfect. The Mexican street corn is very good. It would be better if the corn were grilled (instead of boiled), but the spicy mayo on it is very good. Grilled vegetables as a side are nicely done - tender crisp (not cooked to mush) and lightly seasoned. The rice is almost divine. My wife doesn't usually care for Mexican rice, but devoured this. Perfectly cooked with a hint of cumin. Charro beans, not so much. Chock full of meat (I think my bowl had more meat than beans), but something in there had burned, or tasted burnt. Grilled redfish is good, but the Pollo Loco is absolutely fantastic. With a bit of spinach, and lots of mushrooms. If you don't like mushrooms, don't get this. But if you do - the chicken is nicely grilled, and the mushrooms put it over the top!! La Carreta always has good food, at all their locations. It's always worth a stop, even when the service isn't great. read more

This was a very pleasant surprise. Was invited to a business meeting here but I have sampled their goods in other locations and was not impressed. Outside seating was ideal. Postadas enchiladas were superb. Cheese enchiladas with lime sauce, grilled onions and fajita steak topping was awesome. Didn't care for the rice much because of the peppers in the rice. We love this place. Favorite drink is pineapple basil. We usually get the largest size but I ask for a glass fishbowl rather than a plastic one. Food is really great. We came in on a Monday night around 6:30 and was seated near the bar at the high top tables, there were 8 of us and when we first came in they started walking us to the back, but then another guy possibly the manager told us he didn't want to mess up the back room if he didn't need to? We had kids, so it would've been better at a regular table, it wasn't very busy either. Our waiter was great, he took our drink orders immediately and brought us chips and salsa which was tasty. We ordered cheeses dip and margaritas, our orders were taken and the food came out fresh and hot. I ordered the shrimp ceviche and it was so flavorful and it was a large portion, super fresh. The rest of the food was great, will definitely be back, we usually go to the Covington location but this one was really good! We have a bad experience the last three times dining here, however our last experience ranks as probably my worst dining experience in my life. Our server was horrible. It took forever to get our drinks and they were incorrect when we finally got them. We had to remind him three times about our cheese dip which we finally got seconds before our entrees. The person serving the food handed my wife a plate, but failed to mention that it was hot and she burned her hand. When the food arrived, my sons order was all messed up and mine was cold which I just ate it because I was done with complaining. At this point, we had not seen our server for close to 15 minutes, so we asked a waitress that was sitting at the table next to us having a great time as if she didn't even work there. We asked her to get the manager, but surprise.... the manager was busy talking to another table. The manager was polite and apologetic and did what she could to make things right, but nothing could have made us feel better. When it was time to leave (which must have been close to closing time ) we heard one of the waiters yelling out f bombs where all my boys could hear her. Last night we ate here and the food is always just marginal but the margaritas are always good. But in the case of the last few times especially last night not even the drinks were good. The margaritas and the sangria were watered down and the food was obviously microwaved making it tough and chewy. Sometimes I remember a bad experience at a restaurant not because the food was bad but the service. This was both! I think the server must have doubled as the bartender on the day we went there. Have never ever had a server not come back and ask if everything was okay. I can to ask other servers to go track him down at least three times before he came back to see what we needed. I recall the original La Carreta opening next to the railroad in Hammond. They had taken over a failed previous Mexican-style restaurant on the premises and made it into a hot, hip place to have a margarita and some fajitas back in the mid-to-late 1990s. Although the Mandeville location is of the same name (and, I assume, the same ownership), it is certainly not of the same quality as that original location when it first opened (I cannot attest to the quality of the Hammond location at this time, as it has been years since I went there). A small group of us went on an early Saturday evening after a day at the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival nearby. Product: Mexican-style food and drinks. The prices were a bit steep for the quality of the food. I am a big fan of their chile rellenos, but this time it just didn't wow me. Chips and salsa are complementary, but of only fair quality at best. 2 stars. Service: Being seated didn't take too terribly long, but getting drinks and food did. Some of the food didn't come out terribly hot, either. The check took forever to be dropped. At least the employees didn't insult us. Overall, a disappointment. 2 stars Facilities: About the best thing about this place. The restaurant facade and patio are reminiscent of the Mediterranean style, with stucco walls, tile roof, and patio trellises. We sat outside on a beautiful, comfortable dusk time. The table and chairs were okay. Bathrooms were clean. 4 stars Overall: I wanted this so much to be more than it was. I suppose I had rather lofty expectations after my history with the original location in Hammond over the years. We go to Taco Tuesday pretty regularly! Great service! The wait staff is always friendly and fast. The tacos and the taco salad always have a good amount of meat, the tortillas and veggies are fresh, and they keep the warm chips with fresh salsa coming. I have been away from home for 3 weeks and I'm homesick for good old "bite me back" (Tex) Mex food. Spicy Chili Rellenos, Fresh Guacamole . . . aaaahhhhhh. (I was so tired of the bland stuff they call Mexican food in Mississippi.) Upon my arrival on the "North Shore" (of Lake Ponchartrain) I asked the hotel concierge where I could find a good Mexican restaurant. The only thing she could think of that might fit the bill was "La Carreta" in Mandeville, just 4 miles away. When I arrived I asked the waiter what set this place apart from the other places around & he said their drinks . . . I don't drink . . . I told the waiter that I was homesick for spicy Tex-Mex and couldn't decide on what to order from their menu offerings. I then asked him to ask their cook what he would suggest, then I ordered it. It was GREAT, and was only $12.95. The Tacos de la Calle Pastor were 3 open faced tacos piled high with spicy shredded pork, served with a garnish of Lettuce, Avacado & Pico and a fantastic bean soup. This fancy Spanish title (Tacos de la Calle Pastor) litterally means Street Tacos with Pork in Texas. Back home I have 3 street taco venders within a mile of my house and they cost an average of $1.69 to $2 per taco and come with the garnish on the side. However, the tacos at this restaurant had about twice the meat piled on them and they were beautifully presented. And the bean soup was a fantastic taste of home and worthy of a meal by itself, filled with beans, meat & spices. For starter I ordered their Shrimp Coctail and was a little disappointed. This Shrimp Cocatil was good but not the best I've found. The sauce tasted perfect, but there wasn't much substance to it (too soupy). It was served with 3 very thin slices of Avacado on top (more as a garnish for looks), and had1 jumbo shrimp on the lip with about 5 more floating around inside the goblet. (The BEST is served at Don Jose's, 2312 W 7th Ave, Corsicana, TX 75110) Tthe American version of Shrimp coctail usually comes with Jumbo shrimp and is served with a very thick sauce which is used like a dip for the shrimp. With the Mexican version of Shrimp Coctail there is a very spicy sauce filled with chunks of shrimp, avacado and pico de guillo. With the typicaI thin sauce I felt that these shrimp were too big too eat easily with the spoon and they needed more avacado & pico to thicken the dish. My favorite Mexican restaurant on the Northshore. There are a few La Carettas in the area but this one is the nicest. The outdoor patio area is beautiful and perfect for margarita drinking. The service is unbelievably fast. As long as they aren't too busy you will get your food about 10 minutes after you order. Today I ordered the Carreta fries that says that it comes with steak, fries, sour cream, pico, black beans, cheese, lettuce, jalapeños fresco. I received my order with NO steak like it says in the description... I called the restaurant to let them know about the issue and I was told that I did not select a protein. When in fact it does not give you a "protein" option bc it says it comes with Steak. The manager, FRED, told me I would need to take my issue to Uber bc it's their mess up that there is not a protein option, and there was nothing he could do. So I paid atleast $16 for fries that I have been craving during my pregnancy and it's trash now bc it did not come with the steak like it said they would! And if the restaurant KNOWS that their menu is messed up on the Uber app, then here's an idea, how about y'all fix it instead of telling a customer that they need to call Uber and get it sorted out. Went there on a rainy Friday night with the family and was really impressed! I didn't expect much but have to say, it was a fantastic meal! Salsa was fresh and jus the way I like it- not too spicy but plenty of kick. Chips were the very thin almost see-through tortillas and they just kept coming at us refilling them. I ordered the enchiladas with grilled chicken. They come with lumped up rice (peas & carrots) and refried black beans complete with corona cheese sprinkles and sour cream drizzle. But wait, the enchiladas had sooooo much flavor! Seriously hard to find nowadays I think. Most places have a basic can sauce with zero flavor but not here! Mouth watering as I write this memory from last night. hubby had shrimp tacos and said they were also really packed with flavor. We will be back! read more

I am not one of those people who make idle threats based on small events. That said, I will not spend any more of my money here. Came in with my daughter around 5:15 for dinner. Seated promptly and then ignored for far too long -- not even a basket of chips or a drink order. Eventually, a man passes by and says they will be right with us. He proceeds to go visit with a table of people that had already finished their meal -- going on and on about inane nonsense. As my disappointment grows, this guy then says he doesn't like gay people. WTF?? Why would you say this out loud if you are working for tips? He seemed to have some authority in the place. So, horrible service and a culture of hate? We left and won't be back. I agree with some of the other reviews. This place is colorful and convenient and the margaritas were good. Service was not bad, food was not bad, but it wasn't great either. Just average for Mexican but the price is a good 20-30% higher on a lot of traditional dishes. I would definitely recommend it for the drink specials. Small margaritas were only three dollars. Let me start by saying I have been a restaurant waiter myself and worked many years in the service industry. I have never felt so isolated and ignored at a restaurant as I did here tonight. I don't require much service... A polite attitude, full drink, and what dish I order will do the trick. My wife and I ordered two, simple identical meals and the order was messed up with half my meal missing. I never got one single refill of soda and was passed around like an afterthought between multiple servers. Even the manager was short with me. I was there in good spirits and am always overly polite...I just don't understand this place. The food tasted good and the prices were a good deal higher than their competition. We are new to town and are trying many different Mexican restaurants. This one was very disappointing. We ordered our drinks and some cheese dip, and the dip was extremely thick and didn't taste great. We got steak fajitas and a chicken chimichanga. My chimi was fine, but both meats were extremely bland. While these things alone would not warrant a bad review, our server was very unhelpful, short, and rude. We never got the napkins we asked for, and were charged nearly $3.00 for a small cup of cheese that should come with fajita sides. We won't be returning. read more
