WONDERFUL! Everything is freshly made ( chips, refried beans for the chips, queso, salsa ect) the fitajs plates kept them hot for a good bit. The margarita was a one hit marg, and it was quite big. Just kidding. About the Spanish, not the food; the food was fabulous. The salsa has a fruity taste to it that is both different and delicious without taking away from the salsa experience. You also receive black bean dip on the house; yep, good, too. The dip had a great texture and a full, rich taste. Cheese enchiladas, anyone? You have to try these. The cheese was smooth and creamy, and the red sauce had that same fruity undertone. Very authentic, yet that little hint of citrus sent them over the top. I tried the taco trio, three of your choice on flour or corn tortillas and sent to the table with cilantro, lime, onions and a spicy, green salsa. Carne asada, al pastor, and barbacoa. The carne asada was far and away the best of the three. Seriously delicious, with a smoky flavor that stood up very well to the veggies and herbs. Shared a cup of the chicken tortilla soup. It's a tangy, broth-y style soup that really warms you up, and it's thick enough to be a hearty meal, too. The meal was finished up with a shared flan. Not too sweet, the flavor was wonderful. The texture was less smooth than I usually like, but I will order this again. The atmosphere is terrific; this used to be a Macaroni Grill and the brick finish turns the south of the border decor into something special. Kudos to our servers; we got there only a short time before closing, but they were gracious, helpful, and encouraged us to take our time. We'll definitely be back here! Update to my review: the last couple of times we've been here, Christian has been our server and he is top notch: Always remembers how I like my meal, takes care to bring me the special spicy sauce from the back of the house, and does a terrific job keeping the kids supplied with chips. Food quality is inconsistent and ridiculously overpriced. I ordered 4 steak tacos and was charged $7.00 per taco. I checked their price online and it says steak taco is $5.50 each. That's what I thought I saw in their menu at the restaurant. They also charged $2 for the salsa. $33 dollars with a drink plus tax is around $36 plus the tip. I go here a lot since I work right next door. The service is always great, some truly nice people here. The food is yummy and relatively cheap. Happy hour is until 7 pm and the House margaritas are strong. They have a variety of à la carte options and meals. When the weather is nice I like to sit outside. They also frequently have live music if that's your sort of thing. My most ordered item is the shredded chicken quesadilla. So delicious! This location of El Paso did not live up to my expectations. After a great lunch in Algiers, I figured that I should try the location closest to my house. This location didn't even come close. Like the Algiers location, this was once a different restaurant. The transition from Italian Macaroni Grill to Mexican El Paso was a successful one. That is one thing they did right. Crowd - This place seems constantly packed. On the night I visited there wasn't a wait, but darn near every table was full. We were seated at a booth which normally gives at least the illusion of privacy. This particular booth was slightly awkward. Not for me of course, but for the couple next to us that appeared to be on a date. Why, you ask? Imagine being on a date and having a kid staring at you the whole time. That was my kid on this night. Sorry dude! It was like the wall between the booths was too low. I didn't know those folks, but they may as well have been sitting at my table. Service - Service was rushed and not particularly friendly. I feel like this was a result of how busy they are and they want to turn over tables. I hate feeling rushed so this was not super enjoyable. Food - Th fajitas here were everything they shouldn't of been. Tough meat with no flavor? Yep. This is your standard, run of the mill style Mexican food. The place is big and has a full-service bar as well as a large dining room. The bar has plenty of TVs so good for having a drink and socializing or just watching a game. The staff is friendly and courteous, even though some of them don't speak fluent English, they do try their best to provide a comfortable experience. Overall the food is mediocre especially for a chain with as many locations as they have. Although I love Mexican food my favorite part of any Mexican meal is a delicious margarita. We started the meal with a small regular margarita on the rocks and a small strawberry margarita on the rocks, both drinks were well made and tasted pretty good and the price is fair. I had a chicken quesadilla, soft beef taco, and cheese enchilada and my wife had a cheese enchilada and a hard chicken taco, a pretty simple meal so you would expect it to be pretty easy to get right. Unfortunately not only did the meal lack much flavor but felt like something you might find in a school cafeteria. The chicken was very moist but didn't have much flavor, the cheese enchiladas were filled with what looked and tasted like queso sauce and were covered with a very plain red sauce. The soft beef taco had some flavor but was a little dry and could have used a little more seasoning, probably the best of the three items but that's not really saying much. While the drinks were good the food leaves a lot to be desired and left both me and my wife disappointed. read more

Menu, food and service were all good. The reason I gave the restaurant 3stars is the fact of poor ventilation from the kitchen. This is the third time I've noticed the restaurant to be very smoky. Smoky enough that I left smelling like I worked in the kitchen all day. As much as I like the food etc, this is something which will make me think about dining somewhere else. I'd love to see a reply from management that this is being addressed since I commented on it to my server and the hostess. This is your typical chain Mexican restaurant. The food is average at best and the thing I hate most is white queso.

First visit, almost gave 5 stars but I have been fooled by too many establishments on one visit. The chips and salsa were typical but good and the warm bean dip was a nice touch. I had the steak fajitas (Wed. Special), not strictly traditional Mexican fare but really tasty and a generous portion. My mother had two a'la carte tamales and a small guacamole salad which she loved. I thought her tamale was pretty darn good too. The waitstaff was courteous, informed and prompt. I wish I had noted his name, but he checked on us several times during our visit. We definitely will make a second visit soon, hopefully bumping to 5 stars. read more

I typically go to La Caretta bc it's close to my house, but I've been here twice and I have had good experiences both times. I really enjoy their salsa (it's on the spicier side), and I like that they bring you bean dip. The first time I went for lunch and split fajitas with my fiancé. We really enjoyed them and it was a great value! The second time was last night for dinner. I got a chicken taco salad which was pretty tasty! The guacamole that comes on the side was really yummy and there was a good amount of chicken! I asked the waitress if she could turn the tv closest to us to the Pelicans game and she did it without a problem. The decor is really cool and the restaurant is big and open. Last night it sounded like there was a live singer (which we enjoyed) although we couldn't see him lol. I haven't tried the margaritas yet, but I'm sure I will soon! read more

So I being from Texas I grade Mexican-TexMex on the quality of the margarita. Their house margarita passed the test. Not the best I have ever had but still better than you would expect from a "Mexican" restaurant in Cajun country. The cheese dip was very good. White cheese so they get points there. Coming from Florida (Miami & Tampa) where we get all the most diversified food chains. I've tried a long list of Mexican cuisine in South Florida to name a few from most expensive from Cheapest Rosa Mexicano, TexQuitzlan Chuy's Vallarta's Tex-Mex restaurants chains... I can say El Paso by far is the one of the best Mexican places I've ever visited and it just happened to be in this cute little town in Mandeville, LA. I was surprised to see the prices in this place are great compared to other restaurants. In this specific visit I had the margarita special which is huge and it's frozen not on the rocks. Most restaurants do not give the frozen on special but the one on the rocks. Also, the service was outstanding, we arrived 30 minutes before closing and the server was extremely nice with us, even though we were one of the very last tables. We had a mixed fajitas and with a specialty tortilla that you must actually request. After that we were offered the Cheesecake Chimichanga Mexican style dessert and was definitely spectacular. All I can say it was really good and so far my food experience in Louisiana has been top notch. Keep up the good food Mandeville! read more

Tried to call out a large order since we work at a doctor's office. The first girl couldn't get it right, asked to speak to a manager who assured us that it was correct. The person went to pick up the food and guess what, no order. They told her that they didn't have it! How do you lose an order for 10 people? It took 2 people to f#*k this order up. Thanks for that.
