Tried this place for the first time and had a lovely experience both food and service was good. Will definitely be back. :)

Thai food is always a unique experience wherever you go. But I am sure that I found one of the most unique, here at Savory Thai. Upon entering the restaurant, my family and I were ushered into a tiny booth right by the door. The place was empty. That should have been my first warning. After being seated and handed menus, the waiter--who l think was the only wait staff in the whole restaurant-- disappeared for nearly 10 minutes. Normally I wouldn't mind this because I typically need time to look at the menu. However, being familiar with the cuisine, we were all ready to order within only a few minutes. After completing our order, it took about 15 minutes to get our drinks and additional 5 for our appetizer of glass noodle soup and chicken satay. Warning number two. Every time the waiter would disappear from our table, he would place himself behind the bar area and stare in our direction. No joke. It was moderately creepy. Then, interestingly enough, when we needed something, like napkins, a drink refill or extra plates, he was no where to be found! It was ridiculously upsetting. Not to mention that when he came to the table to clear SOME of the plates (yes, we were still eating) he brought a whole cart full of dirty table settings up close to the table. It was disgusting! Then he hovered there until we were done eating, so he could take the rest! I mean wow, really? Overall, the food was prepared with a lot of flavor and with the freshest of ingredients so that was a major plus. However, the prices were steep for a family of 4, especially for lunch--$94 c'mon!--not to mention the helicopter-like tendencies of the waiter... There just isn't enough of a "pro" here to keep me even remotely interested in returning. read more

Amazing food very authentic and made fresh! First time going and got the pad Thai noodles and shrimp spring rolls. The sauce made for the spring rolls was so good you could put it on a shoe. Finished with mango sticky rice and it was delicious! Service and atmosphere is great will definitely be returning! read more

Pad see ew - Not spicy at all and the sauce tastes exactly like a beef gravy. It is veryyy sweet tasting, not a fan... Spice tray - Seriously lacking. Three condiments included were a small amount of red pepper flakes, sriracha sauce that smelt funky, and a early red paste that looked liked more sriracha mixed with red pepper flakes that also tasted off. I've been very impressed with Savory Thai and grateful it's my local Thai restaurant. I've ordered quite a variety of dishes now, on multiple occasions, and it's been delicious every time! I highly recommend their satay and their som tam is very authentic and spicy!! You really can't go wrong with your order here (have also tried the tom yum, pad see ew, pad Thai, Massaman curry, and more). I've only gotten takeout so far and the service is always great and friendly. My one point of feedback is that sometimes, the beef in the pad see ew can be a tiny bit chewy, so I usually just get it with tofu (which is incredible). If you're hesitant, don't be! You'll love your meal here (this half-Thai definitely does!). read more

The name Savory Thai doesn't suit them at all. Their yellow chicken curry is in fact NOT savory. The "curry" I received was watery, oily, bland and loaded with sugar. I usually order from Kinaly Thai, but since I've moved they are now just out of range! Dear "Savory" Thai, please order the yellow chicken curry from Kinaly Thai and take notes. Their curry is creamy, savory, flavorful, with bits thai chillies and clumps of spices at the bottom of their container because THEY actually SEASON their food unlike you. If you make the improvements and study Kinaly Thai's yellow chicken curry I promise you I'll come back. Until then you'll fail. Your business will sink. I'm extremely disappointed. What you served me was absolutely disgusting. Not even the chicken itself is good. The quality is terrible. It's rubbery, overcooked and has a strange aftertaste. I'm actually very angry. I wish I could get my money back and walk myself all the way to Kinaly Thai and order from them instead. You're scamming your customers with this monstrosity you call food. SHAME ON YOU. Edit: After eating the food I felt very nauseous. I didn't realize the reason was the food until I finished the second half at a later time. I managed to make taste tolerable by using a bunch of my own seasonings and cream I was saving for a recipe I was going to make. Anyways, after finishing it off I felt sick again. I realized it was the food. I want to throw up, but I've been holding it down. Even if you did have Kinaly Thai's taste, I will not order from you again. There's obviously a health hazard in your kitchen. If I catch the coronavirus soon I will know it came from your restaurant and I will do what I can to pursue legal action. OK neighborhood Thai joint. The mirror along one wall makes the restaurant look so much bigger. In fact, I didn't realize it was a mirror until my dining partners pointed it out. They also have these cacti/succulents on each table as decor. I had the red curry and a bite of the seafood soup. The red curry wasn't as fragrant compared with other places and was too sweet for me. It also had a peanuty (or something) aftertaste, like a satay sauce. The seafood soup was fragrant and flavorful, but not seafoody enough. It just needed more, well, seafood in it. I was expecting more since it was priced higher than other Thai food places in the area. I noticed a younger guy waiting on the other couple tables around us and he only stopped by to refill my water once since I gobbled that down in a second from waiting so long for a glass. That was the only time I saw him. Then another random lady refilled my water again. Our food finally came out and it looked good. We only ordered a red curry and a Tom-Kha soup (I had last minute changed it to Tom-Yum soup but they brought out the other one aka not listening to me) and it at first tasted good. Then I started to realize how thick the curry was which was not normal. After a couple more bites my stomach started to bubble and I started burping SO MUCH. Which I knew was NOT normal. I have eaten Thai food at so many places and that has never happened to me before. No one checked on us for the rest of the time and the service was just overall bad. Quite possibly the best Thai food I've ever had! Savory Thai is authentic cuisine made with the freshest quality ingredients. I have been here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner with my family. Both experiences were pleasant and the food was delicious! Spicy Seafood Soup- Similar to Tom Yum, this soup is also made with a chicken broth base and lemongrass. It's the perfect combination of spicy and tangy and includes some of my favorite seafoods! I'm a fan of the shrimp and white fish, but you surely can't forget about the mushrooms! I wish there were more! Yellow Curry- I love most varieties of curry, but Yellow Thai Curry is definitely up there on my list! I've ordered this both times I've visited and the second time was just as good as the first, if not better. Made with coconut milk, the broth is hot, rich, and sweet... Just like my man! Kidding! You're also given the opportunity to adjust the spice level to fit your palette. Savory Thai nailed it with this one! If you have room, or even if you don't, I highly recommend the mango with sweet sticky rice. It's the perfect way to end an already delicious meal. I'm not a mango person, but I could eat this all day! It's so damn good! I love that it's not overwhelmingly sweet. There are plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options as well, so that is a plus! So this was my first time having Thai food. I have to say , this was a pretty fancy Thai food place. Very quiet. The seating area had pillows and so many options on the menu. The food was very good. You get what you pay for. I would say in my opinion it's worth it. If your around the area I would definitely give this place a try. Waiter was good to. Don't recall the gentlemens name but he was good at checking in on me. Making sure if I needed anything? How was the food? Etc. So that makes me happy. I am a fan of savory thai but not anymore. This is the 4th time they made us wait for the food for pick up. Last time was 15 minutes late which was still acceptable. And today we WAITED FOR 30MINTUES on top of the 40 minutes given. This is not the first time so my point here is do say so if you need more time to prepare the food so we can pick it up later. And the quantity for both dishes were 20% less. Having shortage of meat and beans? $40 for 2 dishes and never on time for pick up inconsistent quantity isn't worth it. has to be the worst or 2nd worst Thai restaurant of my life. Maybe, when the time machine is invented, I will go back and erase this visit from my life. The spring rolls were dripping with oil, the pineapple fried hardly had any pineapple taste, Thai basil was tasteless. There was another dish that was horrible. But they kind of did a "don't want it" and didnt charge me for it - that was well appreciated. The service was not the greatest - the waitress wanted to dump the dish on the table and run away. That bad dish came more than half way through our meal. I guess people who don't understand good Thai food can keep patronizing this place but I wonder how does a mediocre place like this survive in San Diego. Handsdown the best Thai food I've had in Oceanside. We've ordered many times and a wide variety of items, and they're all good. Was very quiet even though there were a few other customers there. For appetizer we ordered the fresh spring rolls. Very healthy. It had shrimp, red cabbage, bean sprouts, mint, and basil. Came with peanut hoisin sauce. That made it taste less healthy and more delicious. For our meal we ordered the Red Curry and Pad Thai. I didn't like the red curry but that's one of my friends favorite. The Pad Thai is what I ate the most of. I have nothing to compare it to. Not a fan of the bean sprouts, I was picking it off. Without the bean sprouts, I really liked it and it filled me up. You get a lot of food in my opinion. After exploring the menu there are a few other items I felt like I would have enjoyed a lot more. Savory Thai is my all time favorite spot for Thai food. I never take pictures because I just want to absorb the atmosphere and the eats! They give good portion sizes, and nothing on the menu is lacking in flavor. I've tried about all of it at this point so... I can say that with certainty. Not to create a spirit of competition, but, many locals will prefer Ocean Thai, and it has to be just because Savory Thai isn't as well known, because Savory Thai has such higher quality dishes. Went here for their lunch special. There was so much to choose from and the best part was that the entree came with rice and salad for only $10! I went on a Saturday and really enjoyed the ambiance, service and food! I think this establishment has improved from when we first tried the restaurant years ago. Pad thai with chicken, pad see ew (also with chicken), and mango sticky rice were all excellent. We took home half of both noodles for the next day's lunch. We don't eat out much due to inflation, but we would go back to Savory Thai to try its curries and other entrees. Our waiter was a young man who was very kind and professional.
