not sure it is worth leaving a review, since most of the "high marks" come from tourists happy to find a large store. My profile shows WA but I am living in Angels Camp for the winter. SaveMart has been my go to, but it sure seems poorly managed or there just is not good help available. Checkers and baggers gab away with each other, coming to a complete stop at times. One day getting a deli order all work came to a screeching halt when a local came in with a puppy...which he took back i to the deli area! I try to like this store as it has the best selection ( but meats are questionable). But it is so frustrating that customer service seems to be a secondary priority to social lives. read more

Long gone are the days of packing every square inch of our car's trunk & floor space in preparation for a camping trip thanks to this Save Mart & the glamping concept my family has adopted in recent years. One shopping trip set us up for 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, & late-night and after-pool snacks. It took 4 shoppers & 1 SUV to grab: - several gallons of water (we could've done with less) - ingredients to make a salad - bacon, sausage, eggs, bagels, cream cheese for breakfast - bread, deli meats, & Kraft singles - ingredients to make s'mores - ALL the fruits - ingredients to grill burgers, hot dogs, & short ribs plus marinades - the staples: milk, butter, sugar, coffee, coffee mate, ice cream bars for late-nite cravings - tortilla chips, salsa, guac (& other salty snacks) - brie & grapes for when we wanted a "fancier" snack - hot chocolate & Kern's juices Hitting the road was much less stressful knowing we could pack light. Without planning, each family brought their favorite snacks to share, but any perishables & the bulk of what we needed to feed an army was a 5-minute trip away, & for reasonable prices, too. read more

When I woke up Friday morning and prepared for my trip to Big Trees, I had no idea that stopping at Save Mart would be a life-altering experience. As far as a normal small-town supermarket goes, Save Mart gives you everything you could ask for. Decent produce, including a fabulous bunch of fresh basil. Frozen foods are extensive for the lazy vacationers. Seasonal recreational gear clothing is placed throughout the store. What amazed me was the alcohol section, specifically the beer section. It was like they were reading my mind when they thought of the "Make Your Own 6-Pack" section. With dozens of different micro-brews and imports, I feel they have heightened the beer-drinking experience for the public. So, you want to try a new beer, but don't want to commit? Just buy 1 bottle and mix and match the rest from what you already know. Let me illustrate how beautiful this is. I was absolutely delighted to see several of my favorite beers there. The first two I grabbed were the Lagunitas IPA and Censored Ale...old stand-ins. For something a bit lighter, I found two of my favorite lagers in Bohemia and Stella Artois. Then I saw the Sierra Anniversary Ale, which I never tried, so I took a chance. Finally, I selected another classic favorite: Full Sail Amber. I was able to taste almost the entire breadth of beer styles in one 6-pack. Because I could just buy 1 bottle, I went for something unknown and advanced as a beer connoisseur. This is a huge, clean store. It has every grocery item you need and it's well stocked. The meats and produce look fresh. Prices are reasonable. We stayed at the Worldmark at Angels Camp and this Save Mart was conveniently located for us to buy our groceries. The employees seemed friendly and helpful. I came here three separate times. I didn't want to overbuy and have left over food by the end of the week so I decided to make multiple trips. Since the Save Mart was in such an ideal location, it made going to the store easy. This place is the best go-to market in the area seeing that there's really not a lot of department stores especially if you're looking for one that's open late. This is a medium-sized department store and I would like to say that they mostly have everything you need. They even have a huge wine selection if you're a wine person! I love how they had my choice of tea here! Didn't expect them to have it. This store was also clean and well-maintained. read more

I think there is just too much turnover in this store to ever have it right. The clerks that have been on awhile are all very nice...that's the only good part. Dairy cabinets empty, new meat counters too tall to shop (I'm 5'6) and they don't have great selection anyway. Produce department always missing lots of product. And how can I spend $150-$200 weekly and not even have a bag clerk offer to take my groceries out to the car? Even when they are just talking and not all that busy? I now do the majority of my shopping at Angels Market...a little more expensive, but at least I'm happy when I leave there! read more

How many times seafood/meat counter? How many god damned times? You're the the immature teenager that keeps getting into the booze cabinet and passes out on the kitchen floor.... As (unfortunately you are the only thing in the area) when I come home to you, I'm not even mad anymore, just very very disappointed. The seafood has that weird "expired" smell by the time I get back home. It has happened 3 times already, I'm not going through that again. The last time we bought ground beef, opened the package, guess what color the inside of the meat was? A very concerning shade of shimmery brown. No one should EVER describe meat as shimmery. Needed to stock up for the weekend and our saving grace was Save Mart. We liquior'd up here with great prices on booze and beer! Got some great cheeses from the deli selection from the nicest guys! Milk for the hangover cure - strong cawfee. Banana's just cause. Cookies - because they were Elfing magic and on sale 2 for $4. Chips and Tortilla chips. Pumpkin Seeds Watermelon Fat Boy ice cream sandwiches in Cookies N Cream! The Lucky by the house only has vanilla so I was excited and now will request for Lucky to carry this flavor! And liquid hand soap because bar soap gives me the creeps! Plus gotta love the fact that even if you can't find your bank to withdrawl money just go grocery shopping and get cash back! Long story short- This Save-Mart has health code violations and horrible customer service (don't go here). I went into the store and wanted to get some lunch eat so I went to the deli counter and waited in line patiently for 5 minutes before being spoken to. While I was waiting I saw a deli employee put clean sanitizer towels from a red bucket into a dirty towel bin, then another employee took those towels out of the bin to be used again, this is cross contamination. Health code violation? Most definitely. I figured oh well, hopefully it won't affect me, so i asked for my lunch meat (kept an eye on those towels) and the employee said that she would slice my meat after she was done slicing the lady's order who was before me in line. I kindly said thank you, no problem. After waiting 5 more minutes the lady in front of me still didn't recieve her lunch meat so I asked her if she thought they could be using the other meat slicer. The lady behind the counter overheard me and immediately got defensive saying, "we can't use that one because it shreds the meat up." I asked if they get it sharpened by someone since they are a chain/corporation?(this would prevent the meat from shredding) She then asked me if I had a problem and I replied "no, I was having a conversation with the lady in the line, and you overheard it." Then she got even more mad and asked if I wanted to see a manager and I said no, If I wanted a manager I would find them myself. read more

Has everything needed especially when staying at Worldmark Resort. We noticed beef cuts are more pricier than at home in Sacramento, CA but the fruits and vegetables are much cheaper than in Sac. And yes, they do charge for grocery bags way over here too so bring your own bags!!!! read more

This is the go to grocery store when visiting Angels Camp. It's the only store besides Rite Aid and Pic n Save for a legitimate grocery shopping experience. Since this store is probably a go to for most visitors the prices are kind of high, especially if it's a form of Luckys. A well maintained store filled with friendly staff. Meat department is a bit laughable because they only keep seafood on display at the cold/fresh cut area, no type of chicken or bacon on display. Located right in angels camp. If you're staying at the Worldmark resort this will be your go to place for groceries. This is also a branch of luckys so if you have a member code remember to use it! Considering this is a branch they are well established and will have everything you need from veggies all the way to toilet paper. My family loves this place. We go up to Angels Camp annually if not twice a year and love this store. Well organized; great selection; great meat; and the pinnacle........great customer service! Everyone here is super nice and helpful. These are genuine nice people and they go above and beyond to help you. Always a joy. Make sure you go back to the butchers counter where they periodically bbq meat. This particular day is was tri-tip and chicken!! The whole place smelled amazing...... so amazing that we changed our dinner plans for the evening and bought some of that delicious bbq chicken. Just wish we had bought the tri-tip also.........hmmmm, next time. The guys know what they're doin! read more

I bought an electric pumpkin carving knife and when we tried to use it the day before Halloween, it turned out to be junk. Couldn't even cut through the pumpkin. I couldn't get back to save mart until the day after Halloween to return it and couldn't find my receipt. Manager "Zeke" was called up and didn't question me just gave me a refund. Great place to get our wines, cheese, and whatever else we needed to stock up for our special time in the area. We were celebrating our anniversary at the caverns near by and this place had everything to make our nights special for a little intimate evenings. The prices on their wines were incredible. We stopped here thinking there wouldn't be a chance for a big grocery store up the road near our campsite in Calaveras Big Trees. What a mistake. The store was disappointing and the Big Trees Market in Arnold was waaaay better. Do yourself a favor and just keep on driving. read more

Some cashier must have been drunk or something when I stopped in the other day. Was harassing me about my name, trying to pick an argument with me, not sure why, just came in to buy pasta & was checking out like normal. I don't know the person. Tell your cashiers to stfu and scan that shit, lol. This isn't happy hour at the social club and they certainly shouldn't be making customers feel unwanted. I prefer the Angels Food Market anyway. We just moved to the area and this is the closest grocery store. So far I have been able to find everything I need. I just wish their was a larger organic section. Ice only shopped once so far hopefully next time is better. The staff was super friendly though. read more

While on vacation in a resort near the store we patronized it several times.on every occasion the store employees never smiled or said hi to me or my wife.The second visit the store was rather busy as it was the lunch hour no staff member smiled or greeted us while in the store while we shopped.when finally getting to check out clerk he barely acknowledged either of us , also he seemed less than enthusiast to bag the groceries and didn't prompt my wife on the scanner prolonging the great experience . Save Mart is truly a family market. Jamie the manager shows true concern for her customers and goes above and beyond what is normally expected of a store manager. Case in Point: My daughter a new mother had needed to exchange her baby formula. The brand that she initially got was later found to be an allergen to my grandson. I called Jamie and explained the situation and she immediately reassured me that she would handle the situation. Her exact words were "Send her down and have her ask for me PERSONALLY" . I did what Jamie asked and my daughter went to the store. Jamie exchanged the old formula for the new EVEN though there was a marked increase in price between the 2 products. Jamie is a Godsend. Angels Camp is lucky to have her. I can't thank her enough. read more

I have shopped at many Save Marts throughout the state and this one could use some help. First, the Deli Department personnel need customer service training. Patrons should not have to wait while staff finishes their "bashing" coversation of the boss. The Deli Department is also quite dirty. I have seen gloves and scraps of food on the floor, dirty counter tops, etc. The rest of the store is quite clean and well stocked. Also, the checkers need some customer service training as well. I personally stood and waited to be checked out for a good 10-15 minutes while the checker and box boy debated who caught the biggest fish and who drank the most beer at their recent trip. The employees really don't seem happy to be there. read more

I'm a customer of Save Mart @ Angels camp. It's a good store with good service and excellant employees. However it seems to me that there is some discomfort I notice. It appears to me that the employees are a bit afraid. Are they under threat of dismissal for infractions? I purchased a six pack of NA Beer, O'douls, and started to walk out without a bag and the person stopped me and said, "We have to put all alcohol products in a bag." I said, "This is NA Beer!" and the person replied, "It's the rule!" Would they get in trouble for this? Your employees seem edgy. Do you treat them like children? read more
