This place is good. Some of their dishes are even amazingly good. I wish they weren't so pricey but it tastes like quality ingredients so it doesn't feel like you're being overcharged. Last meal I ordered was to-go and they take care in packing your food items safely and delicately. That is very much appreciated! I had the salmon with succotash and a beef taco. The beef taco was so tender and flavorful, that the salmon almost seemed bland in comparison. It wasn't though, just a more delicate and subdued flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant!
My friends and I had been traveling all day (I had driven over 6 hours), and the last thing we wanted to do when we arrived in LA was to search for a restaurant. We were staying near LAX and I didn't want to drive too far, so we stumbled upon this Mexican spot in the cutest little downtown area ever. El Segundo, you are THAT b*tch! We arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday and were seated immediately (thank goodness). Our server was super duper friendly and even had multiple conversations with us throughout the meal, sharing anecdotes and talking to my tattoo artist friend about getting a tat from her LOL. We quickly ordered some chips and queso (not free) and were blown away by how creamy and tasty the queso was. The tortas were also delicious and easy to scoop a lot of cheese on to. On to the menu, they had a good variety of Mexican dishes, but the price point, man. I thought $4-5 a taco at Barrio Queen in Arizona was steep, but this place charged $7-8 for a single small taco. I would've been okay with any menu item since it's Mexican and nothing under that cuisine could be bad, but seeing each enchilada over $30, made me steer clear of the main entree dishes. I also knew I wanted to try fish tacos, so I just opted for one fish taco and one grilled taco, with a side of mashed black beans. Crazy that some black beans also were at least $5. The fish taco was nicely battered and the guacamole was ripe and creamy, but the grilled chicken taco was nothing spectacular. There was also cauliflower tacos and beef brisket tacos ordered among us. My friend who ordered the beef brisket taco rated it 7.5/10, whereas the cauliflower tacos were rated 9/10. The food also took at least 20 minutes to arrive at the table. Both sauces my tacos came with were extremely spicy so I didn't even touch those. My friends enjoyed their meals, and the side of green rice two of them got was rather tasty. Overall, our server was the best part of the experience. She really ate DOWN, whereas our food and the price point did not.
Stopped by for dinner with colleagues. We shared the jalapeño poppers and guacamole. I personally tried the Fish taco and potato taco. Really enjoyed the fish taco but was a bit underwhelmed by the potato taco. The croqueta was my favorite. Capped it with a watermelon margarita. Parking was easy, likely because we arrived early. Restaurant was cute.
sausal is going to get 5 stars EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. i've been coming here for years and have never once been let down. we ordered a new appetizer today, the shrimp diablo, and it blew our minds. the sauce was so good our waiter brought us a side of it to put on our entrees. we ordered tacos and the carne asada skirt steak. incredible as always and great atmosphere.
This was my first time at this restaurant , we went on a Wednesday night with a large party and it was busy for a Wednesday! The ambiance is dark , moody with good music . All the food was 10/10! We had the appetizers , guac, corn and queso with the fresh tostadas! Every single item felt so fresh and tasteful! I ordered the birria tacos , 10/10! The rice and beans were amazing paired with the birria tacos on the consume . It was a little pricey but worth it for the food. The waitress was great, it was a large group and made sure everyone had their drinks and the food came out in a timely manner. We will be returning and bringing our friends. Parking was a plus , plenty of parking around the corner .
We had a wonderful experience at Sausal! Hortencia, our bartender, provided exceptional service throughout our visit. She was attentive to our drink orders, kept our table clean at all times, and made us feel very welcome. Our group shared several different dishes, and everything was delicious. The green pozole was one of my favorites full of flavor and perfectly prepared. We truly enjoyed our meal and look forward to returning. Highly recommend both the food and the outstanding service! (We will be back, she makes the best coconut margarita and I loved the little colorful flower arrangement)
We tried this restaurant on new year's eve for lunch because it was listed as one of the Resy restaurants for Amex platinum holders. It was a rainy day, so the restaurant wasn't packed. We actually ran into another group wanting to use their Resy credit lol Overall, it was a good experience. Service was police and friendly, and the food came out quickly. We loved the chips, guac and salsa. I'm told the pozole soup was great. The shrimp diablo (sauce on the side) was good flavor wise, but the shrimp tasted a bit old. You know that taste and smell when you leave seafood in the fridge for too long? That's what the shrimp was like and the fish in the fish tacos. Other than those bloopers, everything was great. We'd give it another try. Oh and the vegan taco was good! I didn't finish it because I was stuffed with chips and salsa lol but it was good.
One afternoon, my sister excitedly told me about a local restaurant serving up some of the best Mexican food she ever had. Living in SoCal, where good Mexican cuisine is everywhere, I was skeptical. So, obviously, I had to try it for myself. On my first visit, I ordered the Queso Fundido with tostadas, salsa, a Grilled Achiote Chicken Tostada, and a Baja Shrimp Taco. The warm, salty tostadas were addictive, and the queso was rich, gooey, and perfectly balanced with the sharp cheddar and milder Oaxaca cheese. The fire-roasted salsa was flavorful without being too spicy. While the chicken tostada was too spicy for my taste, the Baja Shrimp Taco was yummy, with bright lime flavor and cool slaw. I returned on Mother's Day with my sisters and tried the Chicken Pozole and a Barbacoa Beef Taco. The pozole was flavorful, though I wished it had more smokiness and hominy. The barbacoa taco tasted great, but the meat was a bit fatty for my taste. My mom also enjoyed the shrimp fajita plate that came with refried beans, rice, warm corn tortillas, and guacamole. We also ordered a carne asada plate that was also very good. The plates tasted as if they had been grilled over wood and coal to give it that flavor and charred coloring. For dessert, we tried the rice pudding panna cotta, bread pudding, and coconut flan. The bread pudding was warm and comforting with cinnamon and vanilla flavors that reminded me of Christmas but the coconut flan was my favorite. It was velvety sweet with hints of acidity from the pineapple glaze. I would pass on the rice pudding since I prefer a creamy rice pudding rather than solid one. The restaurant has a lively but comfortable atmosphere, is very family-friendly, and the service was polite and prompt. We did not wait to be seated and were served fairly quickly. I highly recommend Sausal for its food, environment, and service. Please go check this place out!
Was a huge fan of the old pork chile verde that was on the menu so when I found out that it was being replaced I was extremely disappointed. However, I finally tried the new chile verde and I was extremely pleased with the plate. The meat was so tender that it basically came off the bone as soon as you touch it with the tortilla or fork. The flavor (sauce) is the same as the old recipe which is phenomenal. Overall I was very happy. SAUSAL honestly doesn't disappoint. Their customer service is good, the food is good, everything is so consistent every time that it's difficult to go to another restaurant. Bravo to the team and chef once again. You guys are awesome
Came by on a Monday soon after opening. They do lunch specials & I really enjoyed it! Service was good, atmosphere is nice, food tasted delicious and full of flavor. No complaints here. Free street parking or parking in the back. I'd come back and try something else, I was really impressed with everything I had.
This place is absolutely delicious. From the appetizers, the entrees and the drinks! My coworker and I decided to grab a bite to eat at a new place and yap! She got a chicken dish with cilantro lime rice and my goodness it was amazing. I got a Caesar side salad paired with a chicken taco & a potato taco. Even better. The drinks were tasty as well, very flavorful and not "too" strong. The parking is a little tricky, but doable. The service was great as well. Very attentive and professional. I am going back for more dinners and of course brunch!
Husband and I came in for date night, it was our second time. First time was with friends and food and experience was so good we had to come back. Second time around was still really good only complaint was my husband and I ordered a lot of dishes because we wanted to try a lot of dishes but everything we ordered came all at once and it was a hit overwhelming, appetizers came out with main dishes. We ordered guacamole with chips, ceviche, spicy tuna aguachiles, empanada, 3 of their taco selections (the potato rajas was my favorite), beef Chamorro all out back to back. Everything was really good I think next time I will ask them to space out dishes. For dessert we ordered their Spanish sticky date cake and Mexican chocolate panna cotta, both very delicious!
Dropped by this weekend to celebrate yet another birthday celebration. The service was fantastic, I ordered the barbacoa taco, which I liked enough, though I would probably order something different next time. To my surprise the arroz con pollo as basic as it sounds, was actually so good! The way that they marinate the chicken is perfect. Their aguachile plate was okay, I think if you're a big tuna fan this would be a good choice. The start of the show was the date cake I had for dessert, it only last a few minutes before it was all gone!
Thank goodness for DineLA! Hubby & I dined here once in the Fall of '22 and once in the Spring of '23. Then I just had to return once more at lunchtime during the Spring DineLA just for the Chicken Pozole. We have only come here for the DineLA menus! We love the menu options and deals! Sausal is a nice open and airy restaurant located in El Segundo. The ambiance is casual. They have a spacious bar area. Happy Hour Menu has 5 food items and specials on some beer, wines, and drinks. Along with the DineLA Menu, we ended up having an early dinner, so we tried the Jalapeño Poppers from the Happy Hour Menu. These are not your typical fried Jalapeño Poppers. They might be grilled or broiled. They are stuffed with Bacon, Cheese, and Pepitas. I really enjoyed it. It's served with an Habanero Salsa that adds a little heat. We asked for some regular salsa to go with our meal and our waitress brought some out. We were shocked to find it on our bill because we weren't told there was a charge for it. You can order salsa a la carte for $3.50 each. Now we know. They don't offer complimentary chips & salsa. You can order some. It's called Salsa Trinity with Chips for $7.50. It would be a nice touch to just give us chips & a house salsa without charging for it, If you order the right dish, it includes a small bit of salsa. Not every dish comes with salsa. I'm sorry I'm so fixated on paying for salsa at a Mexican Restaurant. We know this isn't the only Mexican restaurant that charges for salsa, but maybe they'll reconsider this salsa situation! I truly enjoyed the Chicken Pozole Soup! I'm not sure what it is about it, but I relished every.single.bite! We also liked the Pork Chili Verde with Charred Corn Elote! I had a Beef Barbacoa Taco and it was delicious! It has the salsa on the side and I added the right amount to my taco! Yummy!! We have also had the Lamb Barbacoa Enchiladas, Sopes with Duck Carnitas & Black Mole, Empanadas, & Halibut Ceviche. For the Dinner DineLA, they start you off with a specific cocktail. If you don't want it, they let you switch it out for the Agua Fresca. We need to return for their regular menu to try some of their other items. I would love to try the Scottish Salmon on another visit, but chances are, we'll be back for the DineLA again, probably in Spring of 2024. 10-22-2022 Happy Hour Jalapeño Poppers https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/sausal-el-segundo?select=vqjUGKyAwLsFC2vyIP1phA DineLA: Sopes with Duck Carnitas & Black Mole https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/sausal-el-segundo?select=-lj6ECXUvpns_RGKH1_2dg DineLA Pork Chili Verde with Charred Corn Elote & Lamb Barbacoa Enchiladas https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/sausal-el-segundo?select=Bjt4qramEdNT_E94xrNVoA DineLA: Pork Chili Verde with Charred Corn Elote https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/sausal-el-segundo?select=GxtB3VSXRwRolUeC_MIpEg read more

I was looking for a quick fix before a concert and this place didn't disappoint. I was running a little late and called the restaurant and they were really accommodating in our time adjustment. We had a party of five and we got seated quietly in the indoor dining since it was a bit chilly this November. The well lit bar and open entrance was definitely cozy We ordered a round of tacos and steaks and a cup of chicken pozole. Tacos were amazing and so was the steak. Pozole was a little bland but it was still delicious for a chilly evening. One thing is a plus we can do individual checks which was again super accommodating. Thanks for having us there. read more

Stopped by for happy hour on a Friday and had a great experience. The place was packed, but the staff were very accommodating and made sure to find us a table quickly. Service was great as well. Our server was very knowledgeable, kind, and made sure we had everything we needed. Food was delicious! I would recommend trying several of the small plates on the happy hour menu, they're small but filling. The croquettes and the tacos were the real winners here! We loved this place and will definitely be back! read more

Went here for lunch right when they opened and got served right away. The food was delicious. The barbacoa bowl with pork was delightful. I got it with the green rice that also had chorizo. The dish had a decent amount of kick. I would get the dish again for sure. read more

Hi Steve: There's nothing worse than the dish you consistently order…
Excellent service by Benjamin, the salsa trio was delicious and so were my tacos (I had the fish and the butternut squash). I used to love the potato tacos but didn't try them this time! Quick and efficient with every good service! My only small gripe was the strong smell of fabuloso as soon as you walk in but that quickly goes away! read more

I love coming here for happy hour after a long day. Sausal is located in Downtown El Segundo. Sausal's interior is very unique and transports you into a luxurious Mexican villa. Their "menu borrows inspiration from the foundational elements of Rancho cooking: Wood Fire, Smoke, and Slow-Roasting [and] It celebrates the bold flavors of Mexican cuisine" (quoted from their website). They offer Happy Hour every day from 3 PM to 6 PM and special Tequila and Mezcal cocktail and food pairing events. Keep an eye out! What we tried: - Monday Tlayuda Special - a.k.a. Oaxacan pizza with Oaxacan cheese, black beans, avocado, corn (add spicy chorizo +$4) - Thursday Special Not-Cho Mama's NACHOS - beef picadillo, spicy pork chorizo, sour cream, queso fundido, charro beans, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños & onions, guacamole Hot tip: I am a nacho girl all day every day, but I went on a Monday evening. If you ask your server nicely, they might put in a favor and help a girl get the Thursday special on a Monday night. Instagram: @jessgoeat read more

Came here on Saturday night. Very good food and relatively reasonable but little too loud to have any conversation. Probably better to sit at the patio. The service was little slow but good & friendly. read more

The Mrs. and I had dinner at Sausal last night. We had a reservation for 7 p.m and arrived around 6:50. Inside, the restaurant was packed but we decided to sit outside. Even though it was kind of chili. The best way to describe Sausal is elevated Mexican cuisine. Based upon the menu it is easy to tell that Chef Ann Conness tries and succeeds at elevating Mexican cuisine while still holding on to the traditional flavors we've all come to know and love. Our amazing waiter, Jose, arrived to take our order. I started off with a Margarita while the Mrs. and I looked over the menu. We were stuck on a few appetizers and I was stuck on two of the mains. The Mrs. asked Jose for some recommendations. We ended up ordering the guacamole and chips. It was just ok. It could have used a bit more line. The chips were really good. They were tortillas that were fried whole. We also ordered a side of the tomato salsa. The Mrs. and I decided to share the Chicken Enchiladas with Cashew Mole. Jose offered to split the portion without us even having to ask. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and it was the first time that I've had enchiladas that were crispy. Almost like taquitos. The mole wasn't obviously your traditional mole. Jose warned us it was spicy and indeed it was but we loved it. Even though we slit the enchiladas, Jose brought them on separate plates and each of us got our own portion smashed black beans and verde rice. Totally unexpected. We also weren't charged a split charge. Again, totally unexpected. For dessert we enjoyed the "Café con Leche" Panna Cotta. Incredible is all I have to say. The restaurant has a beautiful interior. Very modern and a lot of clean lines and natural earth tones. The bar was really pretty. We were able to easily find parking on the street. We just had to walk about a block or so but it was not big deal. read more

I've dined here twice now, for both lunch and dinner. A bit disappointed with the food and drinks on both occasions. The food is over salted and doesn't taste as if it was made fresh to order. The margaritas were either too sweet or too sour. They do have a well-priced happy hour menu, and the jalapeño poppers were delicious. The ambiance is nice with skylights and a fireplace. Would come back again but only for a light happy hour. read more

Fresh Mexican food in a cute atmosphere. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with the flavors and cocktails at SAUSAL. We arrived at 5pm and were able to enjoy an hour of happy hour drinks and bites. Our favorite were the jalapeño poppers (not pictured)!! The best we've ever had. My shrimp fajitas provided a generous amount of shrimp, and were not drenched in oil. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. We will definitely return the next time we're in El Segundo!! read more

My family and I came here for a birthday lunch for my mom. Food was decently good. Chips and Guacamole were fresh and tasty. The cilantro lime rice was also an all around favorite for my family and I. If I had to recommend off the menu, I'd go for the Arroz Con Pollo! I also love the interior of the restaurant: spacious, bright, and aesthetic. Also to note: Parking is street parking and the street is fairly busy but I was able to find parking within a couple minutes and only down the street. read more

Last minute dinner date, decided to try Sausal. Hostess: friendly We got seated instantly, we were told we had 1.5 hrs to return the table. At first I thought, we are going to rush to eat, but once seated we were helped immediately and service was speedy. Food arrived really quickly, we ate and were definitely satisfied with the decor, ambiance and food. Will definitely be returning to try something else. read more
Tianna, the host greeted us so welcoming and friendly, she really set a wonderful start to our dinner visit! Our server was nice and food came out hot & tasty. ** Chili Relleños was beautifully plated! **Arroz con Pollo was so good! so flavorful! ** Guacamole and chips were also good, the guac was fresh and delicious! Tortilla chips were served warm and they offer a nice pour on their glass of wine. Lots of free parking in the parking lot behind the restaurant and on the street. We'll definitely visit again (: read more

Came here for a late dinner on a weeknight it was surprisingly full and loud! Our server was okay, not the friendliest or most helpful, but overall fine. We ordered the chips and salsas, pork chili verde, extra spanish rice, and arroz con pollo. Everything was pretty good! I thought overall the food wasn't worth the expensive price tag, and I wish they had flour tortillas instead of corn. But overall Sausal is pretty good. read more

This place is so gas. We came here during happy hours and got a few drinks and tacos. The staff is on top of it and the food is delicious! This is our second time back during their lunch menu and still amazing. Definitely recommend coming during happy hour but if you happen to be there too early the price is worth the food, service and vibes! read more
My second time at Sausal and my second dineLA here. I had checked out Sausal years back for dineLA and had such a great experience that I got excited to try it once again for dineLA. Their dineLA lunch special this year was $15 and included choice of drink, choice of taco and soup and salad. For soups; one can choose between Vegetarian Tortilla Soup or Chicken Pozale. For salads the choices were Caesar or Market Greens. Choice of drink included agua frescas, iced tea or soda. We chose to get their aguA fresca. The agua fresca of the day was pineapple. Later on I heard they ran out and had cucumber. For soup we decided to get one of the Vegetarian Tortilla Soup or Chicken Pozale respectively. Similarly for salads we got one Caesar and one Market Greens. Our choice of tacos were the Crispy Fish and the Beef Barbacoa. The pineapple agua fresca was so refreshing. This was the perfect pairing drink for our meal. The soups were also quite tasty though I think the Vegetarian Tortilla Soup was my favorite out of the two. The Chicken Pozale had lots of tender chicken but I'm not a big lime person and so that's the only reason why I would choose the Tortilla Soup next time. As for the salads; I thought both were quite good. They had different flavors and textures but both were a nice, light salad. Last but definitely not least was the tacos. I enjoyed my Beef Barbacoa very much. The beef was tender as well and very flavorful. Overall I enjoyed my second dineLA outing here and glad I got to visit again. read more

Love, love, love this place. What a great tasting twist on the usual Mexican dishes. I've been to Sausal several times now, and every time the food is on point. It's always hot, fresh, full of flavor and served with a smile. The latest venture was for my mom's birthday- and as always it was a great meal. The place was packed and the energy high. They take walk-ins, but I recommend a reservation, because they are always super busy. If you haven't dined at Sausal you should. It's just got such great food and atmosphere you'll be happy you did. FYI- they are closed Mondays, and close kinda early by dining standards the rest of the week, so just call ahead or visit their website for hours. read more

I came to Sausal for a restaurant week lunch with my mom and partner. We found street parking a couple blocks down and walked over to the restaurant. It was mid-October, so the weather was still nice and many people were sitting in the patio. We opted to sit inside though and there was lots of tables open during lunch on a Saturday. We all opted for the $15 Lunch DineLA special which comes with a drink, taco, soup, and salad. Pretty good deal for only $15! We also ordered the salsa trio, which had some interesting spicy and sweet salsas. The agua fresca drinks were good and we chose the Chicken Pozole soup, market greens, and crispy fish and beef barbacoa tacos. Everything was pretty solid! It was a good portion of food and I think it was nice to try a little bit of everything. Overall, I think the DineLA special was pretty good. The restaurant has a nice interior and it's nice to have lunch in the El Segundo area every once in awhile. I might try the dinner special next time they have DineLA. read more
