Spinach and Ricotta Lasagna
Patrick R.

We did the touristy thing and went to try Sardi's. The food was very good and fresh. I had the Kale Salad, my wife ordered the Spinach and Ricotta Lasagna and my kids had the cannelloni. We enjoyed our food a lot but the service was another story. It is almost like they didn't care at all that we were there. Quite frankly I have never felt less welcome at any restaurant across all my travels across the world. It felt like they wanted us to leave the minute we arrived. A real shame if you ask me since the food was great.

A pleasant surprise! The service was exceptional and the food was on point! Well prepared and delicious! The ambiance is old New York! Great location close to theatre! Make reservations or get there early!

We went to Sardi's in early November for a girls' night before seeing Romy & Michele at Stage 42, and it was exactly the old‑Broadway, slightly kitschy experience we were hoping for. The room is lined with classic caricatures and feels very "time capsule," a little dated but in a way that's clearly part of the charm. And you're probably paying a bit extra for this as well. I had the Shrimp Salad, with jumbo shrimp over greens and citrusy vinaigrette, and my friend had the cannelloni; both were enjoyable and the service was impressively fast for a pre‑theatre crowd. There's a bathroom attendant, which always makes me feel a bit awkward, but she kept everything spotless and even helped me fix my dress, so she genuinely improved the experience. Overall, Sardi's delivered exactly what we wanted: solid food, quick service, and a very old‑school Broadway atmosphere before our show.

Sardi's is a fun place to enjoy drinks and food! The bar on the second level is fun to have drinks and meet new people. I really enjoy the meatballs. All the food is good and comforting. It's fun for lunch and dinner.

It was all we expected and more. The food was delicious and loved the atmosphere. Service was 10/10. We had reservations for dinner and had requested to sit at one of the iconic red booths and they kindly obliged our seating request.

We stumbled upon this spot simply because it was close to the Broadway theater district and had an open reservation -- and wow, did we get lucky! I later learned this place has a long history of celebrity visitors, which made the experience even more fun. The walls are lined with charming caricature portraits that give the restaurant such a unique, nostalgic feel. I tried one of their signature dishes -- the cannelloni with beef and veal -- and it was absolutely delicious. I ordered the appetizer portion along with a spinach salad with bacon dressing, which was the perfect amount of food before our show. I also enjoyed a champagne cocktail that paired beautifully with the meal. Best of all, the restaurant is just a couple of minutes' walk from the theater, making it an ideal pre-show dinner spot.

This is a very well known restaurant in the NYC area. It is located right in the heart of Times square and is a good choice to go to if you are catching a show in the area. This restaurant is filled with the walls covered in Caricature's of famous people who have once dined here. This is a big tourist spot. There is a small bar area to your left when you walk in too. My friend and I both had a salad for dinner and no cocktails. I had a cob salad and my friend got the chopped one. Hers looked better than mine. She said it was very good. We both ended dinner with cappuccinos and a I had a decaf one. If you use the bathroom here it's very chilly in there at least in the ladies room. And there is a bathroom attendant who is very nice.

Walked in without reservations to have pre-show drinks. Located the heart of Times Square across from Shubert Theater where we were going to see a show. The place was super busy but we were able to get a small table upstairs that overlooked the street. Being from out of state this place is what I imagined an old school Italian restaurant would look and feel like - very nostalgic and even some customers speaking Italian (loved that). The walls are covered with caricatures of famous people that have dined there. We walked up to the bar to order our drinks and didn't have to wait long for them to be brought to the table. All in all it was a great experience. I'd like come back and have dinner next time.

Best place to come for a pre show drink. You can't go wrong with a yummy martini. The price, though, is pretty steep. You only live once so enjoy!

Came in for a pre-show drink. It was the height of dinner and pre-show rush. The bar was jammed packed but moving quickly. The decor is old school theater with portraits of stars current and classic. Kristy and I found a spot to squeeze into and two very kind ladies who were getting ready to go gave us their spots. We ordered French martinis. At $20 a pop they were a little steep but were strong enough to sip slowly while we waited for the theater to open. They served food as well but we had just eaten. The vibes were extremely chill and its a great spot for a pre or post show drink or meal. Felt very old NY and camt believe I've never been here before in my whole life as a NYer. Won't be the last either.

Good food and great ambience, excellent service and the food was tasty. It's pricey, but that's all part of the course in this neighborhood.

Sardis was the perfect way to end an evening of seeing Maybe Happy Ending on Broadway. We were seated quickly by the host. Surrounded by decades of star portraits. The menu has a wide range of selections for dinner. The waiter was courteous. I chose the salmon which was a large piece and cooked perfectly tender. I bought a shirt and bag to remember the evening. Just ask the waiter for the souvenirs and they will add it to the bill.

I'm not sure. Sorry

No dress code. Typical theatre wear will be perfect.

Unfortunately they do not

How far early to call for reservation? Does it get booked fast?

You can only book 60 days in advance. Depending on the time of year, you may be able to make same day reservations but I wouldn't take chances. I've seen people turned away who didn't make reservations. Another option might be free seating in the… Read more

Do I need a reservation if I just want to get dessert after a show?

It's not a requirement to have a reservation but considering it can be busy that time of the evening you might want to consider it. There is quite a bit of theatre traffic through there as well.

I have heard conflicting stories, one that Sardi's has closed down, the other that they are still open. Does anyone know the status of this place? I have sent Sardi's a number of messages and they never return them.

Open, open, and open.... Enjoy!

The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

For dessert, the iconic tiramisu. Garganelli- This has a nice, arugula pesto sauce that has a rich garlicky finish. It's enhanced with roasted mushrooms and sharp pecorino. Tagliatelle- You get a rich pork and beef bolognese. The house made pasta is cooked to perfection. Pretty satisfying! Ravioli- This is a light, seasonal dish with pumpkin, brown butter, and sage. The sauce complements the sweet pumpkin and the brown butter adds a nuttiness. Tiramisu- This dessert was too cute to eat! It was decorated with a meek looking model of their namesake lamb. From the outside it didn't look like much but after passing through the two sets of glass doors... It's packed. And lively. And (really) loud. And it was only a Tuesday night?! (How are all of these people living so high on the hog, without a care in the world?!) We were escorted off to a little tucked-away enclave near the back, but the restaurant was just too boisterous and we had to shout just to talk to people at the other end of the table. We got our menus and there was a bit of 'sticker shock' on my part, I can't lie. "We're in NYC, what did you expect?" - the Mrs. whispered when she saw my eyes go wide. But $38 for chicken parm? (Which is what I went with after seeing it had its own little "parm-fection" hype on the menu.) And $36 for the Branzino (which consisted of one fillet on a small bed of wilted spinach)? Our table dabbled all over the place and for the most part everyone really enjoyed their meals. The food they're knocking out is legit, for sure. But the bill came out to over $60 a person (including the tip, but we didn't have apps or dessert and half of us just had water), which hurts when you're a cheap-o like myself. Our waitress was awesome (and she didn't even seem fazed when I tried to rattle her that we were going to split the check onto nine different credit cards... but we only used one). And Bryant Park (right across the street) was the perfect nightcap on a lovely spring evening.
