Went again Saturday, July 4th. Veal Picatta was as excellent as before. Super thin and cooked perfectly. Wine/drink/dessert selections have moved to an iPad. I don't remember that, last December, but it was a great way to browse, and be able to enlarge text! Excellent staff again. Came in Saturday night tonight 45 min early for our reservation. "Hi we're 45 minutes early can we have a drink at the bar before you call us for our table?" They show us to the bar. While the bartender is making our drinks the same hostess comes back and says we can't stay at the bar because a party has reserved it but she can seat us now (45 minutes early). She then leads us to the absolute worst table in the restaurant in some purgatory corner of the second floor. No thanks babe I know what you're doing. Then a manager stepped in and told us we could drink at the bar until our reservations. Needless to say that fictitious party never showed up at the bar. We had a very nice dinner at a great table with impeccable service. But 1 star for that hostess and her ridiculous blatant lie to my face in front of my family and treating me like a jerk. read more

For this trip to NYC, this was the only one that we strongly plan to revisit. For pre-theater dining, the food was solid. We ordered grilled octopus, linguine alle vongole, and lamb chops. We drank two glasses of wine. For dessert we had tiramisu, sorbet, and decaf coffee. Across the board all the food was of consistent good quality. Service was friendly but there were a couple of minor slips, they forgot (but did not charge) an extra side of vegetables we ordered. Also, they did not serve separately each course as we requested when placing our order (i.e. pasta and main course brough together but surprisingly things did not get too cold). Given the usual chaos of pre-theater dining, we are generally tolerant of these slips and such mistakes are server dependent. Given the tasty food, we would likely give Lattanzi another try. Total price for everything listed including tax and 20% tip was about $240. This is about what you'd expect for the location and represents a fair value. read more

I hadn't been here in while but was in the area and decided to have an early dinner. I entered the restaurant and was seated in the back, close to the kitchen but I didn't find this to be a problem since most of the tables seated 4 and I was alone. The restaurant is a little dark, there are lights over every table with some kind of shade, napkin that hangs over it for ambience I guess. I was given ice water and ordered a glass of Malbec. It was a double theater day so as time went on the restaurant began to fill up. The Malbec arrived with a basket of Italian bread and some type of flatbread [a potato chip consistency] with EVOO spread over the top. I had never seen this before with in my experience there is a small dish and a bottle of EVOO is brought to the table. I looked over the menu and decided on the ravioli con funghi porcini [ravioli with porcini mushroom.] The food came quickly and was hot and delicious. I finished my meal and ordered an espresso to finish things off. I did get the feeling towards the end that I was being a little rushed since the bill arrived immediately and the waiter was actually waiting for me to pay my bill. I finished my espresso and paid the bill. The food was good, it had a nice ambience and the prices are comparable to other restaurants along this W. 46th St. strip. Lattanzi can be found on restaurant row hidden among so many restaurants. If you want Italian, with good food, service and ambiance then Lattanzi is your place. The service was top notch and as soon as we were seated the waiter asked if we were going to a show or just got out. This set the pace for our dining experience. The one unique, amazing item in the bread basket was the flat oil and garlic flavored matzo like piece. Delicious. Drinks were yummy and didn't disappoint. We've lived in NYC for 26 years but chose this restaurant on Restaurant Row for proximity to theater for my aging parents (78 and 79!). First off, drinks. My Mom wanted Rose. There was one Rose on the tablet menu. Tried to order and they had NO Rose. Really? None on a Saturday at 5:30pm? The other wines were fine. The beet salad appetizer was ok but could have used more than 4 small slices of beets among all the greens. The insalata mista was very good. For entrees, the veal piccata was overcooked. The halibut (on special) was a nice size. Two of us had the Trenette al Sugo di Pesce. In English, LINGUINE with seafood. Not linguine (see photo) and it lacked flavor. Bland. Service was fine but we asked for salt and pepper for the appetizer and only got salt and I had to ask for plates to share one app which I told them we'd be sharing. A pepper situation would have been great. For my entree, I wanted and asked for red pepper flakes but eventually gave up. Our table's head waiter never came back to ask about either course, only later to see if we wanted dessert. My husband and I came here for Valentine's day after doing a random search on Yelp - It was my mission to get good Italian food while in NYC, and Lattanzi fit the bill! We showed up early for our reservation but they were still able to seat us right away. This restaurant is very small but has a cozy ambiance. Our service was friendly and SO quick! I think we were in and out within 30 minutes, no joke. I had the carbonara and enjoyed it. I can't remember what my husband ordered but he devoured it so quick that I can say he very much enjoyed his, too! We were seeing a show afterward at the Lunt-Fontanne theatre and this was an easy walk to there. Definitely would recommend Lattanzi! read more

What can I say about Lattanzi. The ambience is fantastic. The service is impeccable. The food is very very high-quality. Deftly made by a chef or chefs that are skilled and know what they are doing. We had been there last year and loved it! Everything from the service to the food and drinks. We were there on Saturday night and it was a complete 180! Service was nonexistent. It was as though our server couldn't be bothered with us. We were a party of 6 looking for a large meal with drinks and dessert. We chose not to order apps as we had an 8pm show to get to and our server took way too long to ask us for our order. It took a few attempts to get a bread basket which was blah. A few of us had the lasagne special which was not only a small portion but lacking flavor. We were never offered grated cheese or asked about drink refills. Came in for restaurant week before seeing & Juliet and had a great time. The menu had plenty of options for $60pp. The inside was nicely done with lots of Italian relics. The service was immaculate. Our waiters never let our waters go empty, they topped every plate with freshly ground pepper as well as topping your plate with cheese (as preferred). The homemade mozzarella was incredible. You could tell it was so fresh and paired so nicely in the appetizer. The homemade bread was so soft and flavorful. My meal was the fettuccine ragú which was made with homemade fettuccine. This was probably some of the best pasta I've ever had. The meat sauce was so well done and executed perfectly. My friend had the bucatini which was also homemade and she loved it. We both finished with the tiramisu which was excellent. We loved our time here and were really impressed with the service, the food and the ambiance! read more

We had planned a night at the theater and were looking for someplace for a nice dinner that could get us in and out pretty quickly and was a reasonably short walk to the theater. When you add in the fact that we love Italian food, Lattanzi seemed like a great choice. The recurring theme in this place is "old school" - all of the servers were in suits...someone offered to check our coats...and the vibe was very "traditional NY Italian". None of this is good or bad, just an observation. Our server was extremely attentive and was available whenever needed - there was clearly no shortage of staff at this place. I suspect they are used to a theater crowd, so they are very speedy with their service. We all decided to go with the pasta: my wife went for the Ragu and really enjoyed it. I had the Carbonara - the sauce had a great flavor. My daughter decided to try the Bucatini All Amatriciana and that's where we ran into some issues. After a few bites she was quite confident that the dish served didn't match the description on the menu. The server insisted it was correct and was very accommodating and replaced with the Cacio e Pepe which she liked. The funniest part was that when tit became clear that there was some issue at our table, there were a lot of guys in suits swarming our table speaking Italian - it was quite entertaining. :-) It was kind of a pricey meal since all we had were three pastas and three glass of wine, but it's NYC...that kind of comes with the territory. read more

Lattanzi is hands down the best restaurant in town. As a hotel server nearby I always send my guests there and they come back raving. No one is ever unhappy. It is acquaint Italian restaurant in the heart of restaurant row. The experience in and of itself was worth the price of admission; however-- they put a lot of effort into being entertaining with their fake Italian accents, lol and not as much on efficient service. Many things arrived late or not at all. The homemade mozzarella was very delicious when it finally arrived after our meal was over. Well let's first start with the fact that I normally would not give a negative review. I walked in and asked for a table for one and asked 8f i could be seated by rhe bar. I took a seat at a table for 2 by the bar. After 20.mins of not being asked as so much if I wanted to place an order for a drink or even given a glass of water at my table I decided to walk out and leave since no one even acknowledged my presence. As I was walking towards the door I decided to ask a member of the wait staff if I was sitting in the wrong spot for service since no one offered any to me as I sat near the crowded bar. Others that walked in after me were serviced as I sat there and watched. The maitre'd didn't apologize for this but offered me another table. I decided to stay and check out the food since I already figured out how the service. I asked for a suggestion on 2 wines and instantly the suggestion of the higher priced wine was offered. I went along with it Monte Degli Angeli Barolo. Which I must say I expected a better tasting red. While looking up this wine I couldn't believe the markup on it. I get it, its NYC and majority of restaurants in the vicinity are pricey but this is ridiculous and extremely overpriced on a 40 dollar bottle of wine. Now on to my meal I order the Fettuccine al Ragu' Homemade Fettuccine with beef ragout. Which came out literally before I could finish saying it to my waiter. It really wasn't anything to write home about. Basically Fettuccine and a very bland meat sauce. All in all I didn't have a very good experience here at Lattanzi. And highly unlikely that I win return more less recommend. But I would like to say that I would say try for yourself. Maybe the treatment I received will not be want you wil experience. Dined here last week, never disappointed, always consistent on every level. I'm Italian, so I know good ingredients! The fresh mozzarella is a cloud of heaven, I ordered chicken topped with the most delicate artichokes, my friend had salmon so fresh all she kept saying "gotta taste this salmon!"...The service is top notch and friendly, and I noticed the maitre d so attentive to all the guests. I love italian food especially after a trip to Italy. I am often hesitant to visit an italian restaurant because unfortunately Italian American food is nothing like true Italian food. But I heard good things about Lattanzi so I figured I would give it a try on a recent visit to NYC. While in Rome I ate at a restaurant in the Jewish Quarter. One of the most unique things there is Carciofi alla Giudia. I saw this on the menu and made everyone order it. Well that was a huge mistake. What showed up was a plate with three small greasy artichoke hearts, price of $24. Seriously.. You can buy a can of artichoke hears for $2 and get 9 out of it. It wasn't fried... it wasn't the whole artichoke. It was absolutely nothing like its Rome namesake. I knew we were in trouble after that. I ordered the Zuppa Di Pesce which was totally underwhelming. The clams were over cooked... very chewy getting stuck in your teeth. Almost no sauce to dunk your bread it, which was probably a good thing since it was almost tasteless and super salty. The other people at my table were also not impressed with their meals. Stay away. read more

I was all alone for an early dinner before a show but that didn't stop me from having three wonderful courses. I started with a green salad with fresh Parmesan. Delicious dressing just the right amount. The server helped me choose the entree, filet with mushrooms. The steak was perfect. Some wonderful potato for a side as well. I finished the meal with their house made zabaglione and an espresso. They got me in and out right on time and were very kind to make me feel special as a one top. So disappointed. We were in the city from Long Island for a show and were bringing friends from out of town. We researched restaurants near the theater for a new place to try and Lattanzi looked like a good choice. The appetizers were great but when we got our meals I was shocked to find I could barely cut through my steak. I tried cutting off the large piece of fat and gristle and it was almost impossible to cut through. The rest of the steak was very chewy. So for $52.00 I got maybe an ounce of steak that I was able to eat. I was surprised as I questioned the waiter because I was trying to decide between 2 items on the menu, one of them being the steak. He immediately said the steak and did the chefs kiss motion. I said great and ordered the steak prepared medium. When I discovered the steak was unable to be cut or eaten we stopped the waiter and told him. He said oh I'm sorry and turned and scurried away. I waited and thought maybe they were preparing another steak but that did not happen. Another waiter came by and we told him about the steak and he said he would tell the chef. Someone came to collect my plate which clearly contained almost an entire uneaten steak and asked how everything was. I said the steak was not good and that it was so tough and gristly that I could not cut it or eat it. He apologized. The waiter came back and took a dessert and coffee order not once saying anything about the steak. I thought perhaps they will comp my dessert since they did not address the inedible steak but they did not. We received no replacement for the inedible steak nor did we receive any compensation for a meal that could not be eaten. I have written many reviews and I believe this is the first negative review I have ever posted. I was extremely disappointed with my meal but was so glad it happened to me and not our guests as I would have been mortified. We are not complainers so we didn't press the issue. We mentioned it was unsatisfactory to 3 different people and were not going to make a scene or embarrass our guests by arguing or further stating the fact that the steak could not be eaten. It was a bad piece of meat. I get they have no control over that but they do have control over how they handle a situation like that. Perhaps they thought we were out of towners and would not be back anyway but we frequent the city often and always share our experiences with our friends so they can try new places we find as well. This will not be the case with this restaurant. I'm also sure they have enough business that they won't worry about one customer who was dissatisfied but I will be quick to say don't go to this restaurant if someone asks me where to go to eat when in the theater district. read more

Old school italian at its best. Waiters are very friendly and service was impeccable. I ordered the branzino and it was cooked perfectly. Outside was seared but the inside was flaky and moist. My kids each had a pasta dish. One had butter noodles and the other had the bolognese. Both pastas were cooked a perfect al dente and very flavorful. I rarely leave bad reviews but the excellent reviews for this place absolutely baffle me so I just want to leave a counterpoint. The food here was mediocre at best. My mother's pasta, a pappardelle special, had basically no taste except for butter. My pasta had a ton of cheese in it even though cheese wasn't listed on the menu as an ingredient; as it happens, I don't like cheese on pasta and had the menu been accurate, I would have ordered something different, so it would have been nice to be informed of what they were actually serving. The salad greens weren't properly dried so the salad had a lot of water in it, which diluted the dressing. The chocolate mousse was all right, but was served on a plate instead of a dish so it looked like a pile of dog food -- just really bad presentation, which is not something I expect at these prices. And the cappuccino literally tasted like water. The service was indifferent and we basically had to wave our arms vigorously in the air every time we wanted to get the server's attention. He then had to come back and ask what we had ordered because he forgot. Lame. I won't be returning to this place. Saved from one star because the decor was nice. read more

My friend had a wedding celebration dinner here. She told me the reason why she pick this restaurant because it is her husband favorite place. We were at a second floor. They have a balcony and dining room. Service and decoration are wonderful. Food is fantastic, start with......... - Antipasto Vario : Grilled Portobello, Baby Artichokes, Mozzarella, Asparagus. - Pasta Medley : Ravioli, Risotto and Spinach. - Choices of Entrees I pick Filet Mignon : Black Angus, Mushroom and brown demi - glaze. Dessert is also great. They are combination of homemade desserts. It was so nice at the dinner. My friend has about 30 guests and Lattanzi handle a catering very well. Good Job! read more
