We had decided to stop into Sardi's, since it was only two blocks down from the theater (St. James to be exact). Food: Food is superb! You have 24/7 assistance from waiters/waitresses, and you have two menus to choose from-speciality and basic dinner menu. This restaurant has fused Italian fare with American cuisine. Service: You will receive your food in under 20 minutes flat, unless it's a MP item. Ambiance: The restaurant has been at Broadway for over 100 years. Caricatures of the rich and famous decorate the walls, and red and black are the signature awning and interior color combo of choice. It is a tight space, but there is an upper and lower level to the establishment. You will need a reservation to eat here, due to the fact that it's a very popular restaurant and close to other theaters. I will be back! Quality at its finest! read more

Made a reservation here for dinner before seeing the absolutely fantastic Stranger Things - First Shadow show. I was excited to come to Sardi's and experience all the history and was hopeful the food would be good. It wasn't good, it was absolutely great. The consensus from the table was that it was fantastic and in many cases best meal of the week. I had the spinach salad, and myself and everyone that had it thought it was delicious, and I was excited to try the cannelloni and it didn't disappoint. First time I've seen cannelloni the way I grew up eating it in a restaurant - crepes vs pasta. Sooo very good. If I get to come back for another broadway show I'll for sure be back to Sardi's. read more

This was my favorite dining experience on my trip. I sat at the bar and Enzo was amazing! The bar food choices aren't the best (it sounds like they do serve the main menu as well, but if you're sitting in certain spots, the plates literally won't fit), but I would probably still sit at the bar next time due to the experience. It was filled with so many theater lovers and it was so fun chatting with people. Highly recommend if you are going or coming from the theater and want to be in a theater atmosphere. We came here before a show. It was not busy, we got a table right away. Service was prompt. We had so much fun looking at the caricatures around the restaurant of famous people who have been there/ dined there before. Portions were plenty. I don't know that this is the best food I've ever had but it was good, full of character and convenient to the theater! read more

Always wanted to try this place. It's old school classy with maitre D and waiters in red jackets and bow ties. A place worthy of the rat pack. Johnny took good care of me noticing i don't walk too good he told me about the elevator to use the rest room upstairs. Food was good service excellent. Standout food item is the canneloni a must try. Cocktails big and strong. I would skip the app special for. Filet mignon medallions perfectly cooked delicious but small portion. I expensed this so the prices did not impact me. I gotta say I would not come here on my own dime but I'm glad I was able to experience some history. I like old nyc places read more

One should not go to a broadway show without a after-show visit to Sardi's. The history in these walls is incredible and well preserved. So many stars line the walls and perusing them is restorative and fills the heart with joy. These Manhattan's are so classically made and a part of New York City history. The food is classic, as well and delivers across the board. Steakhouse extraordinare and the most amazing sides to accompany them. Steak Diane is always an option as in the best peppercorn sauce in all of New York. We love Sardi's and its history and kind knowledgable staff. I forgot to stay stop with the cheese grater on my pasta and the waiter just kept going which gives her extra brownie points. I loved it in here. Like a little Italian broadway gem. As a New Yorker, I have had a number of New York Institutions on my restaurant bucket list for years. Finally got to cross another off when I went to Sardi's. Sardi's is about theater and film history -- from the entrance, to the upstairs to the dining room itself. Old. School. The best part of the experience was getting to chat with the gentleman who worked in the coat room. I always tell people who come to our wonderful city to talk with people who work various places. Sometimes, you'll get treated to an amazing story, as we were that afternoon. My friend and I had a mid-afternoon meal before our evening performance. He had a salad and I had a club sandwich. We could imagine show producers having their meetings surrounded by drawings of famous actors and personalities. We loved the surroundings -- and the food was fresh and delicious. I may have crossed this off my bucket list, but doesn't mean I won't go back again! Definitely plan to. read more

Idk what this restaurant is famous for. It's a below average Italian restaurant. We ordered chicken Parmesan and chicken burgers. We asked for the green beans on the sides but they said they don't have it but we saw them serving green beans to other folks. The food was not worth the price they're charging. Sardi's was once the place to be seen if you were a celebrity in NYC. Now, it is an accessible and classic venue to enjoy a taste of what once was while being close to so many Broadway shows. The menu isn't expansive, but there is something for every type of eater (except vegans--you'd really be limited but I am optimistic they'd accommodate as best they could). Service is impeccable. Our waters were refilled, orders taken quickly, checked on often, and not rushed, despite it being a pre-theater meal. Our food was great and since I have been here many times, I can attest to the consistency of the food. While you're there, make sure you walk around, which is encouraged, and try to identify the stars in the caricatures posted all over the restaurant. We dined upstairs, which gives you a great view of the street and hustle and bustle. The restrooms are upstairs, but there is an elevator for those with mobility issues. This is a must-try, at least once, when in New York City for a show or just because. read more

Sardi's is a NYC staple amongst theater goers...So, I had to try them out at least once, and once is definitely more than enough. Had reservations and was promptly sat. Our server was nice and attentive. The food was just OK, we had the shrimp salad, and the cannelloni. The restaurant itself is definitely in need of some repair. Wonderful service and food. Never been to this "institution" in the theatre district and loved all the caricatures on the walls. Ask for the "book" that lists all of them and make sure you know your compass directions of east, west, etc to find the right wall. read more

I'm a native New Yorker yet I've never been to Sardi's?!? So I went. We did lunch before a Wednesday matinee. I love OLD NYC, so this was right up my alley. I had reservations and was sat right away. My one complaint was we waited 20 minutes before anyone came over. We were given two our drinks comped so thank you for making it up to us. My drinks were delish. I ordered the turkey club ( it was really yummy and fresh) and Hubbs got the burger and it was cooked just right. I loved people watching and seeing all the pics on the wall. Upstairs was cool too, and I spotted Kermit. LOL. I love MERCH so I bought a T-shirt. I don't know what everyone is complaining about, it's ICONIC. I'll be back! read more

We went in to Sardi's on Friday night before seeing a show & the staff was very nice. I shared soup and a salad with my husband, the chicken soup was awful and the salad did not justify $34. The asking for some goat cheese on the side & seeing a $9 charge was just ridiculous. How do you order soup & a salad and come out spending $70+. Sardi's is iconic. I remember my first time for the cast party of A Lie Of The Mind when I was a freshman at NYU. My mom came here as a girl back in the 40's on show days. Over the years, I've been back from time to time. But as of late, the restaurant has definitely dimmed its Broadway lights and chosen to rest on its name being the attraction, not the food, service, ambience or joy (which there seemed to be little of, especially among the employees.) It started out great. We got seated early, which was a plus. A server came by to say that someone would be by in a moment with water and to get our drink order. Then ... (tick, tock) FIFTEEN MINUTES went by before anyone came by with water or for anything other than to pass us on the way to wherever. And, the sad part was that they weren't particularly busy. There were several empty tables near us and no line at the door. Service lacked severely. For instance, when they brought the main entrees. My husband had to flag someone down (twice) to get a knife for his shrimp cakes. And then they gave him a steak knife for something that should have been served with a regular dinner knife. There were a lot of long waits all about, such as to order coffee and dessert (which by that time half the downstairs dinner room was empty and they were moving around tables or something. But not a lot of dinner guests or any justifiable reason that we needed to be flagging someone down for coffee, dessert, the check ... ) The food gets a B-. After 100+ years, it's inexcusable that the filet mignon medallions come out at two completely different temps, one was a perfect med rare, the other was borderline medium well.) As for the ambience. If you didn't know you were in an iconic place, famous for its once hustling and bustling A-list stars and the glitz and glamour of Broadway, you'd think you'd have stumbled in to some average, old and not particularly inviting any-restaurant. If not for the caricatures that adorned the walls, you might not know it was famous for anything or a place that is so celebrated, despite Naomi Watts sitting at the table over from us or an actress from the heyday of 20th Century theater royalty across the room. Even the staff seemed sad to be there and trudging through. What they did get right, they really got right. The med rare filet mignon medallion was mouthwatering. (Not sure where the hint of horseradish in the potatoes was ...) The prosciutto melon was delish, as was the salmon asparagus. Was disappointed. I've been to the Palm...I've done most the restaurants in restaurant row...have done Ellen's Star Dust Diner and all those other restaurants that you frequent when you're doing dinner and a show. But this is the first time that I've ever been to Sardi's and it was classic New York. What more could you ask for. Nights like this are so fun! My uncle and cousin asked me to dinner and a show as a special surprise for my aunt. We stopped at Sardi's for dinner before the new Neil Diamond show "A Beautiful Noise". It was such a great evening. Sardi's is the New York you see in the movies. A crowded dining area with rowdy theater folks coming for a bite to eat. Growing up I loved watching the Muppets take Manhattan and always dreamed of coming here and it was everything I thought. Right up to when I saw Kermit's picture upstairs en route to the restrooms. Our meals were here tasty, but nothing too special. Obviously it's a bit on the pricier side, but it's worth it for the that classic New York experience. The lemon sorbet was a nice way to end a very hearty meal before a show. Service was excellent and exactly what you would expect. This place is a well oiled machine and if it ain't broke don't try to even fix it. read more

Food was brought out the way we all ordered it. My friend had the Caesar Salad. I had the shrimp salad and my other friend the turkey club. My salad was very fresh and honored my request for ice berg lettuce. There was 4 shrimp, chilled and cooked correctly. Everyone else's food was exactly the way they wanted it. Service was a little bumpy when we first got there because it was 45 people. But once things calmed down, service was very attentive. My friend wanted to take the rest of her salad home. The waiter by mistake, threw it out. They gave my friend a complete new salad to take home. All in all, everything was fine. Looking for a great place to eat across from the Schubert Theater- this is the place. We decided to stop by for lunch before our matinee and were seated immediately. Service was a bit slow but if you're not in a rush it was good. There are caricatures of famous people lining the walls. They range from actors to politicians which make for interesting conversation. We spotted most of the New York State Governors on the wall. The food was delicious. I ordered the glazed salmon with sweet potato puree and for dessert the tiramisu torte was nice.
