Had lunch here recently on a quiet weekday. I had a chicken cheese steak with mushrooms and peppers and my colleague had a regular cheese steak with onions and peppers. We also shared some fries and a chocolate milkshake that was so thin it was more "milk" than "shake". I remember coming here regularly years ago - and the sandwiches were much better back then. This time, the flavors were bland and uninspiring. You could hardy taste the filling over the bread. And what's up with using dutch crunch rolls as the default for a cheese steak and not even offering a more typical roll? Decided to stop here with my family after making a stop at the airport and the service was excellent! Right away we were greeted by one of the ladies that speaks Spanish, don't know her name. Will not be returning because of my checkout experience. The food was fine, and the wait staff were very kind and attentive. Unfortunately, the woman at the front was extremely rude and insulting. When I quickly asked for a breakdown of the bill--just so I could understand what I was being charged for since the receipt didn't specify what each item was--she responded by condescendingly saying it was fine that I couldn't afford to pay. That was never the issue; I was simply asking for clarity. Even after I explained this, she continued to be dismissive and rude, which was extremely upsetting and uncalled for. read more

Yesterday, Sunday. 2023, 11/05, I was planning to meet my friend at 1pm since I know they close 2pm. Once I got in 1:04pm the old lady who seems to be a owner was looking at me and told me they are closed. I see ppl are coming in and out for take out and at least 4 table was full with ppl still eating. I can't believe she just kick us out without giving me a reason and speaking Spanish in front of me which I have no idea what she is talking about to their staffs. We've been here a handful of times over the years. Some good experiences, some bad. Today we came for a late breakfast. The hostess greeted us warmly and said "wherever you like." We chose a booth that had not yet been cleared. One of the servers directed us to a table. We said we'd like the booth. He again directed us to the table. Finally, they came and cleared the booth, and we sat down. Our waitress was friendly and efficient at first. She took our order promptly. A few minutes later, some people came and sat at the booth behind ours. One of them ordered a corned beef hash--the same thing we ordered. A few minutes later, they were served. We waited. And waited. Finally our order came. We mentioned that the guy behind us probably got our order. The waitress denied it. No apologies for the long wait. Then the owner stopped by to see if everything was all right. I started to tell her about the order mixup, but she cut me off with, "We've been doing this for 24 years. We know what we're doing. Just relax." Then she walked away. So much for "How are we doing?" Why did she even ask? The corned beef hash was just okay. A couple other places we frequent have much better corned beef hash. Pancakes looked good, but were tasteless and cardboard-ish!. I love fluffy flavorful pancakes with real maple syrup. They don't have real maple syrup. Just imitation. Overheard the owner lady talking trash about her employee saying that the guy is useless. During point of sale, she asked multiple times if we ordered drinks but we only had water seems like she was trying to charge us extra. Food was not good, It tasted bland I ordered the Benedict the english muffin was not toasted which was soggy and the poached egg was so wet when I cut into it it squirted water all over my shirt. The place is run down and dusty I do not recommend coming here. Might be a step up from Denny's. If you are going to pay this gouging price, don't be like me, do your research, find a better eatery! read more

Been by this small retro looking resterant 100's of time but being open for breakfast and lunch only, we hadn't stopped. This past Saturday though we were looking for trying something new. We were very sad we not come earlier. The service was fast and very gracious. The waitstaff was preemptive good in anticipating what we needed. And our meal was presented fast and delicious. My first and definitely my last time here. I ordered an egg scramble and it was good. My daughter ordered pancakes and she said they were not good. The ambiance is very comforting like home. My issue was with the owner who happened to be our server. Before walking back to submit our order, I asked her to change my meal. She came and brought us items that we hadn't ordered and when we'd try to explain she would talk over us and go and bring us whatever she assumed we were asking for and roll her eyes. When she was bringing the food she asked who ordered this and my friends and I looked at each other confused. She continued to walk away with the food and say "let me see the order because these people don't even know what they ordered". We tried explaining the confusion but she wasn't even paying full attention to us and then walking away and again doing what she assumed we wanted. We were charged for all the mistakes she made when taking our order. I wish my experience was better but after reading other reviews, it seems like this is who the owner is and her attitude will not change. read more

Love this place! This is my favorite type of breakfast spot. It has an old-style diner feel which lends to both the food and service: Good, consistent, friendly staff, and good service. Sara is even there most of the times I've eaten here. And whether you're new or a regular, they treat everyone with the same warm, welcoming attitude. Terrible service - AFTER waitstaff took a minute to check and helpfully identify food that would trigger allergies....owner/manager made a point of coming over and stating 'We do not have time to check ingredients to make sure you dont have an allergic reaction'. Cute little place across from the monastery. I came from the google reviews and glad I checked it out. Very attentive staff and quick to seat us on a Saturday afternoon. Food was good and reasonably priced. We had the breakfast burrito and chicken apple sausage scramble. Both were plentiful and not overly greasy like most restaurants these days. Had a nice brunch at this spot! You can tell it definitely has its fan base and I'm sure there are folks who have been enjoying their traditional breakfast comfort food for years. The menu is pretty standard. If you're looking for free range avocado sourdough toast or vegan charcoal lemonade, this ain't your spot. We ordered: biscuits and gravy Benedict, chicken fried steak, hash Benedict, and am omelette- that I'm forgetting. All the food was decent. Nothing that stands out as amazing, but the ingredients were quality, strong serving size, and pretty tasty all around. A few nit picky things- they forgot my coffee and there was a plastic bread tab in our cottage cheese- whoops! Whatevs. We came around 12 and we didn't have to wait at all! I went to Sara's Kitchen yesterday for breakfast.. Although I had lived in Santa ClaraI for 10yrs, I'd never been to this diner before and was excited from all the reviews I've read. I ordered a linguica scramble (more of a onion & pepper scramble), side small stack pancakes (2), orange juice and a cup of coffee. The coffee was piping hot the way I like it and my anticipation was increased for some good eating. The scramble lacked a balance of the main ingredients. The pancakes seemed pre-cooked and re-warmed cause they were hard and cold. The butter didn't melt at all. So disappointing. I didn't bother the server because I wanted the full experience of a first-time diner. After the lackluster meal,I went to the register to pay and here's where things turned absolutely left. The cashier, I presume the owner or maybe she was Sarah was helping another patron with their order. The patron was sitting very closely to the register (left) which is located in front of the open kitchen. The patron had ordered a hamburger with a fried egg, apparently she wanted something changed or added. As the cashier took the plate and turned to head to the kitchen, the top bun of the burger fell on the carpeted floor which is the main thorough fair in and out of the kitchen. I'm standing at the register patiently waiting to pay my bill and to my dismay and shock, she picked up the bun and put it on top of the burger and proceeded to walk the plate to the fryer and explain to the cook what needed to be changed. It didn't seem like the cook understood her instructions so she proceeded to do it herself. As she's fixing the burger, she removed the dropped top bun and placed it on the side. I was in shock! She removed the fried egg from the burger amd placed the dropped/contaminated bun right back on top of the sandwich and took the plate to the diner. I was shook!!!! Now I know things go on behind the scenes of every restaurant but to see it that up close and personal in an open environment disgusted me!!! After handing the patron her plate, she came to the register, gave me my total. Keep in mind no gloves were on her hands during the entire time, she didnt wash her hands before or after. I was still the only one at the register. I paid my bill. Went back to my table with a knot in the pit of my stomach, left a tip and felt compelled to tell the patron what I witnessed. After witnessing that, I decided that was my first and last time dining there. I'm kinda bummed cause I did want to try a hamburger which is one of my favorite hot sandwiches. This is to the woman at the register, please be more sensitive and concerned about your patrons going forward. read more

Local hidden gen for your average Breakfast brunch. They have mimosas (orange and cranberry) I was unsure what i was to discover coming into a smaller establishment but my breakfast ( number 8) was delicious. A vegetable omelette, fresh tasting eggs served with (choice of potatoes or fruit) strawberries, watermelon and grapes. I googled good Dinners near me and Sarah's popped so I thought I would give this place a try, the result ? INSTANT REGRET Dinning at this place is like eating next to a furnace, not to mention that overall, this place is pretty run down and in need of some serious upgrades,or better yet, REPAIR THE AC!!! The biggest surprise to me was that the place was pretty packed out, mostly retired folks. I sat at a booth we're a plastic window separates us from the booth I was sitting in, I was constantly overwhelmed by the smell of cheap grease and burnt toast. The food? Pretty subpar. I ordered pancakes, eggs over easy , hash browns and pancakes. The bacon taste like beef jerky, the pancakes doughy with no flavor, the hash browns and eggs we're yummy, the coffee was also okay. I paid a total of a little over $65.00 for dinning here with my son and and daughter. I totally felt like I wasted my money by not going to a Denny's instead. At least they have an AC that works and some flavor in there pancakes . In a nutshell, avoid this place at all cost and just spend your money at a Denny's instead!!!! read more

My vegetarian non-white friends stay away from this place !! Sara has a serious attitude problem. And the food is just basic and bland. Don't go by other reviews. It's a scam Ever heard of arrogance ? Sara is the living personification of that. You would think being an owner would make you more compassionate towards the customers, but she is the exact opposite of that, extremely rude, frugal and mean. This place is saved by the nice servers who actually have some decency in engaging with customers. When I asked if my dish was vegetarian, she projected so much racism towards me as if how I dare I ask. I have had experiences in past and people can accidently put bacon in dish which I don't eat. I don't see anything that I could have done wrong in double checking this time. But Jesus, Sara is a mean horrible lady. Just made my entire experience traumatic. Sara is so frugal that even after charging exorbitant money for bland and basic food, she made such a bad face upon asking for a carry on bag which was so cheap by the way, it almost ripped apart the minute I sat in my car. She also made me aware that the cheap plastic bag was 25 cents! this is a restaurant where customers should be served water, tea, coffee, offered seat, but this lady did not see anything else except the 25 cents ! The interiors are worst than any roadside diners, just tiny, old rickety furniture. Sara - if you are reading this, I saved you hella money by not eating at your place, saved your money from cleaning the dishes, having servers attend to me, cost of 'free' water, cost of coffee, and just taking space in your run down old restaurant. The least you could do is be nice to someone is who drove to your restaurant, is sitting outside in the sun, waiting for food to get ready, pays in full at the register and takes a to go. You saved 25 cents, if you would like I can send you back the shabby to-go food box as well in which you gave me shoddy potato's , perhaps that will help you run the restaurant. I wanted to genuinely like this place, but now I can't think of a more traumatic place than this. Extremely bad job Sara! And the food is not even that good, for you to deserve that arrogance !
