Great place for cheesesteaks! Different from the other cheesesteak shops around San Jose in that the hoagie roll was soft! Most cheesesteak shops have a thick and chewy hoagie that sometimes gets to be bit too chewy and becomes a problem trying to take a clean bite - more often than not, it ends up with the meat falling out of the hoagie, and/or juice oozing out onto your lap. Not so here at New Jersey's! This is the first time I ate a cheesesteak with no mess, no meat falling out, no juice on my pants! They solve the problem by using a soft hoagie roll. Yet there is not the sogginess that one automatically expects, as there is little juice to be soaked up. If you think that this makes for a dry cheesesteak, it does not. The meat is tender, not dry at all, the onions and mushrooms are not limp, but the flavor is all there! Long time SanJose staple now on Hamilton ave across from Safeway. They have a small parking lot, but have indoor and outdoor seating. A full bar and ample seating inside. Walk up to the counter to order, or sit at the bar. Find a table and enjoy multiple tv's with different programming. Booth seats and table seats, you should find a place to enjoy your food. I personally have not been to this location, but had tried them when they were just Jerseys off of Winchester blvd. A friend recommended them because he said he had the best onion rings and they make their own ranch dressing. I got the standard cheesesteak with onions and cheese. Sadly I did not really get the cheese with my cheesesteak, there was one hidden slice inside my sandwich. Definitely not what I am used to if I have a cheesesteak anywhere else. We ordered (shared) the cherry pepper cheesesteak - 7.5/10 I've had a handful of hoagies to compare so I'd say personally it lacked a bit of flavoring and the meat ratio was too much, would have liked it a little cheesier. The wings were good 8.5/10 they were meaty, not fatty and cooked the way I liked them. The sauce was spicy perfect. Type of ranch matters to me - this was one not thick or too watery. As a Philly native, it's incredibly difficult to find a restaurant that makes a decent cheesesteak outside of Philly. However, I can confidently say that New Jersey's makes the best Philly cheesesteaks in the Bay Area. I got the combo Philly and it was good, I wish they toasted the bread, that's my only thing. They fill the sandwiches to the brim with meat mushrooms and bell peppers and I left feeling stuffed. On the side I ordered a large garlic fries and curly fries. I just wanted the garlic fries a bit more crispy but overall a solid sandwich and sides. Growing up and living in San Jose until 1985, I never heard of New Jersey's until a friend of nearly 60 years recommended Jersey's for a reunion of 5 of us 70 somethings. Not an expansive selection of hard liquor and beers on tap but plenty of bottled and canned beer in the refrigerator. Something folr just about anyone. The menu proudly lists their Cheesesteak sandwiches as well as Burgers and other regular pub fare, the it's obvious the Cheesesteak sandwiches are this places claim to fame... and well they should be. All 5 of us ordered Cheesesteak. I knew I should have been suspicious when George requested Only half the regular portion of meat. I ordered the mushroom pepper combo. All the sandwiches came on a 10" roll but... with a fork on the side. Why you ask? Because there's SO MUCH meat there's no way a normal person could eat it without wearing half the meat. So after nearly filling up with about half the meat I managed to squeeze the roll together enough to eat this like a regular sandwich. In the end, I was Stuffed Not exactly the cheapest Cheesesteak but certainly worth every dime. Would I go to New Jersey's again? I would drive down from the Tri Valley for this one. I liked the ambience. Small neighborhood sports bar in the middle of Suburbia, across the street from yet another nondescript giant strip mall. I hope small businesses like this stay alive. I went during a trivia game so the place was pretty packed. It was fun. I got the Cheese Steak. I liked it a lot. The food took a long time to get to me (I think maybe they forgot or lost the order). Regarding the cheesesteak reviews as I come here for the best Cheesesteak in San Jose. It is a HEAVY sandwich, not wimpy like a lot of cheap no meat cheesesteak spots. But I will say you need to order it with double cheese. They dont use Provolone so you need to order white American which is just as TASTY.. We stopped in on a Wednesday night for trivia and we are so happy we did! New Jersey's is the most charming restaurant/bar. It seemed like everyone in the restaurants knew each other and were regulars. They had a ton of food and drink options and their service was quick. They don't have a ton of tables so keep that in mind if you plan on staying a while. I recommend you do! It happened to also be someone's birthday and they cut us some slices of cake!! I thought I'd try this place from mostly positive reviews. What a waste of my money! I prefer to support local businesses but this one should have been shut down before I walked in... 3 words sum it up: old, outdated, and awful. All 3 describe the inside, service, and food. The entire place desperately needs a deep clean and remodel. There is 0 customer service skills as the servers ignored us. There were only like 5 other people inside lol Guess that's busy for them? It took forever to put the order in and the old woman is especially rude. Then when we got the barely warm food it's like biting into a saltine cracker. Our meats were dry and salty! This old lady behind the counter has an attitude like she is a working-class millionaire, absolutely nonchalant about customers but if she was only that I wouldn't care, but I realized besides scary she is cheating with money. I ordered two cheeseburgers and one big fries. I gave her my credit card and I didn't add tip because the order was to go.  The cheeseburgers were okay, nothing to brag about, the buns were small, the lettuce, cheese and tomato were so small they covered half of the patty. The fries frozen, tasteless and with a hole inside.    I was expecting that the amount I payed would be $21,00 for two cheeseburgers plus $7.00 for a large fries the total price around 30 dollars with taxes. One week later when I got my credit card statement, I saw the total was 47,38. She decide to add a 50% tip. I reported to my credit card and they gave me a refund of $15.00 without dealing with the restaurant, since she didn't give me a receipt. 4.5 stars but rounding up for one of the best cheesesteaks I've had in a while! I've been a lot of the other top cheesesteak spots in the Bay, and somehow missed New Jersey's until now. They are located right next to super popular brunch spot Hash House, and they have their own small parking lot in front of their building. In addition to a variety of different cheesesteak options, they also serve burgers, salads, sandwiches, and sides, all your standard bar fare, but slightly elevated. Prices are very reasonable, especially for Campbell (although they are located outside of the swankier downtown area). I placed my order around 4:30pm on a Sunday, and it was ready in about 10 minutes. I loved their original cheesesteak, and how beefy and cheesy the filling was. The onions were also cooked perfectly, and all three ingredients worked really well together. Oh yes my local sports restaurant. This place is still king because I went a a closer sports restaurant and it was not so good. I came here a few years back for the Warriors winning game and it was really cool. This joint seems to be a huge hit among the local community which includes me. Everyone seems to treat each other nice which is a good reason why this is the premier place to go. Service is very nice, whatever you want you get. I must declare they have a very good price for a tall glass of beer. It beats other places I go to. They have different brands of beer for any occasion which is good. A neighborhood gem! I love the cheesesteaks here. They are made with choice ribeye. There is so much meat, the sandwiches are served with a fork to pick up all of the overflowing meat, and a bag of chips is included. 1/2 a sandwich is enough to fill me up, but it is hard to stop eating. I usually kill a whole one in a sitting. I wish there was more cheese...then it would be perfect! I like to get curly fries with my cheesesteak. I do not like that they nickel and dime for a side of sauce...50 cents each side of ketchup or ranch. On Wednesdays, there is a pork ribs special for $13.50. A generous portion of pork ribs with a side of fries or salad. The ribs are boiled (not my favorite way of prepping ribs), then grilled over fire. Surprisingly good.
