Restrooms are fairly clean but only 2 stalls. Beer selection is good and I like the spicy fried cauliflower. It's very spicy so be careful! pretty good food. terrible booths. let's start with the seating. omg these are the worst most uncomfortable booths on the planet. i'd do takeout or eat outside, but wouldn't do indoor seating again. food was hit and miss. i tried the pulled pork sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. the mac and cheese isn't very good. i ended up not eating it. the pulled pork is good and they put a lot on the sandwich. could use more slaw and more sauce. they waaaayyyy over butter the bun. it was incredibly greasy and soggy. i'd ask for it to be unbuttered next time and get a side of extra sauce. flavor was solid. i'd eat it again for sure. all in all not bad, but not somewhere i'd rush back to. read more

Food- was superior. Pulled pork was excellent. Chili was so good, pieces of meat were nice and chunky. Lemonade was delicious and they kept refilling whenever the glasses were empty. I love this place. As a midwest girl, this place brings a little sense of home to California. Its Modernized rustic appeal has such great energy and allows you to relax and have a drink in peace. Very underwhelming. For starters, you have to order up front, get your own water, pick up your own drinks at the bar, etc. That's fine by me but it would still be nice to get greeted when I enter as it was my first time and was standing there unsure what to do. If you want BBQ, this is not the place. I think you can see the $19 tri tip sandwich as it speaks for itself. It was the size of my hand. The cocktails were also a joke for $12. I finished it in two sips. I saw other people getting served in actual glasses while ours were in plastic cups, and filled with crush ice. What was that about? The patio closed because of an event so bunch of people were in the small inside with the sun beaming. We had to switch our table three times bc we thought the outside was open and then someone took our table, which was our faults, then the only other available table was in the middle of the bar and register so people were standing in line hovering over us. I personally was not a fan and would not return for all those points mentioned. There is little parking and it's a college crowd with lack of diversity, which is fine I guess. I think I'll go elsewhere next time I'm looking for a BBQ spot. Giving two stars because the wings were alright for the price. read more

During our lunch break at a symposium held at Santa Clara University on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, Joanna, Ray, Dustin, and I stopped by The Hut shortly before 1 PM for some drinks and bites. Located across the street from Lucas Hall, The Hut is a convenient spot for attendees of the university. If you're lucky, you can score free timed street parking in front of Lucas Hall. The venue is about the size of a small cottage with an outdoor covered seating area that appears equal in size as the indoor dining area. Indoor décor is simple with concrete floors, some tables, booths, and counter seating. The place was clean everywhere, including the women's restroom when we were there. My stomach was feeling a bit sensitive on the day of our visit, so, unlike my friends, I passed on alcohol and opted for a glass of iced water and an order of FRIES. We ended up ordering two rounds of everything, including the potato snack that we shared. The FRIES ($5 per order) were served fresh, piping hot, & perfectly crisp, but SALTY. Yes, both servings had too much salt for my taste. Service was fast and friendly. Considering that our annual symposium is held at the same place every year and we haven't been fond of the lunches, we will likely return. I wouldn't drive out specifically to return here, it's just a quick and convenient spot to hit up during recess. read more

When I was going to SCU, this was more of a dive bar. I love that it is now owned by an alum and he's turned it into a lunch spot. At first when someone suggested the Hut, I was confused because I thought it was still pretty much a bar! It's changed since I graduated (many moons ago). They have good lunch specials. Okay I am obsessed with this place.... great tacos at a fair price, INCREDIBLE COLESLAW (I like them sweeter), and they have the skinny crispy fries that are kind of hard of find these days. They're not very busy on weekdays, so it's great if you want a quick bite. Dog friendly as well! read more

I have not been here since the last remodel some years ago. I went to college nearby (at SCU) a long time ago and this was a dive bar back "in the day." There is a lot more sunlight inside and the interior is very welcoming. No more dollar bills stuck on the ceiling! The waitstaff here are very nice, contrary to what I read in other reviews. Very friendly and let us know when we came in what was still available from the brunch menu. Even though they made an error in our order, they were quick to verify this and fix it. And my wife really enjoyed her grilled chicken burger. Tri-tip sandwich: 3.5/5. A pretty decent sandwich. I actually ordered the pulled port sandwich but was brought this instead. I mentioned to my waiter that there was a mistake. But rather than have them toss this sandwich I took it. The waiter stopped by a few minutes afterwards to make sure that I was happy with it. Not a huge portion, but just the right amount. But next time I will try the pork sandwich. read more

The decorations are quite festive and fun. I ordered Pulled chicken sandwich (3/5): dry. Average sandwich. Nothing special. Onion rings (3/5): quite crunchy but not crunchy enough. Oh, The Hut, I wish I could enjoy you more. I'm both an alumnus and a current graduate student at the University. Occasionally, it's convenient to drop by before or after night classes for some drinks and food. Or stop in before a home game. However, I've observed a rather peculiar pattern at The Hut - it can be almost empty with just a few customers in one moment. Then, suddenly, it becomes overwhelmingly crowded in a matter of minutes. Be prepared and give yourself extra time when visiting. While their small menu makes it suitable for snacking, none of the food items truly stand out. It's honestly food that one could find at the Giants or Niners game. The food prices are surprisingly high for what they offer in terms of quality, portion, and customer experience. I don't usually complain about cost because when we pay even higher prices, we have excellent service, which is rarely the case at the Hut. And a much nicer surrounding beyond wooden benches and uncomfortable stools. The vibe is low-key and best suited for a quick hangout. The drink prices are average and competitive with other bars, which we appreciate. Unfortunately, their service is consistently slow after you order and pay. The staff's demeanor varies; sometimes, they are super friendly, while other times, they seem miserable working there. It's disheartening to enter a place and see frowning faces. I'm unsure what is happening on the backend, but management should better support team members who sometimes seem overwhelmed. Although I'd love to give The Hut five stars, my numerous experiences over the years prevent me from doing so. My cohorts and I have had a couple of memorable nights there that were fun, so that's positive! As a Santa Clara University student, I love The Hut! It's perfect for happy hour from 3 PM to 6 PM. Conveniently located next to campus, it offers great indoor and outdoor seating, making it ideal for bringing my dogs. I always enjoy their ciders on tap, but their cocktails, especially the pomegranate mule, are fantastic too. The food is excellent; the new fried pickles are a must-try, and the fries and sandwiches are to die for--definitely worth the price! It's a fun spot to grab a bite and drinks with friends. This use to be the SCU watering hole, I guess not anymore. Haven't been here since pre-Covid, was totally shocked at the remodel. Not a fan. Was there visiting the school, thought lunch at the Hut for old times' sake was a good idea. Apparently not. They ran out of lettuce (1pm?), I don't know how you run a kitchen and run out lettuce, but sure. Had the worst mac and cheese of my life. It was watery, cold and the parsimoniously placed cheese was unmelted. I was impressed. How do you F up mac and cheese? And the dollar to quantity ratio was obscene. The little cup maybe had a 2" radius? Ten bucks? Seriously? Truffle fries without even a hint of truffle. Wow. Brussel sprouts with bacon...bacon isn't even listed on the menu. COVID EDITION My husband and I came for lunch last week. We were two of 4 customers I saw during the hour we were here. There was plenty of outdoor seating but service was just ok. The girl who took our order and brought out our food was possibly new- she knew the menu but seemed to still be learning the rest. The music and atmosphere was great. It's no secret why this place is a Santa Clara staple. The food was super good also. They had a sign about 1 hour bottomless mimosas which definitely caught my eye so I guess we'll be back for brunch soon read more

I was recently at the Hut not too long ago and the most welcoming staff there. Julie the bartender there was great. She was very welcoming and so nice to talk to. She instantly made me feel very welcome there. She seem very attentive and definitely more than meets the eye beyond her beautiful smile She recommended me the tri- tip sandwich and I must say I fell in love instantly. It's because of excellent service that Julie provided along with her outgoing personality that I will definitely go back. I love the new look of the establishment as well. First time there and I tried the tri tip sandwich and baked beans. The sandwich was good. The meat was really moist but could have been a little more flavorful. I'm glad I ordered grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and pickles. I think I might have been disappointed if I did t add all the fixings. The beans were really good. I love bbq sauce so they were right up my alley but I'm thinking someone that likes a thicker and less soupy baked beans might have an issue with them. I stopped in for a drink to see the "new" Hut. I like the outside seating area but the inside area has way too much of a sterile feel for me. I know it's not going to be the same as the "old" Hut but they would do well to make the inside a bit more divey and fun. Drinks were OK...first glass had lipstick on the rim. (Maybe that was how they pay tribute to the old Hut?). Service was good and I had a nice conversation with another guy at the bar. Service was good! The guy that took my order and brought out the food was nice and had a positive attitude. The ambiance was fine, it was crowded but that's to be expected. Didn't love the layout of the restaurant though, because like why did I have to go up to the bar to get a coke? I mean to each their own but like I feel that fountain drinks should be brought to the table. However, my main qualm was the food itself. I got the Caesar salad with trip tip and the salad was soggy, very little dressing, okay ish tri tip, and was just flat out overpriced for $15 a salad. The tri tip was bland and felt like it only had a light salt and pepper rub which wasn't enough. Anyone who gives this little spot less than 5 stars is missing a tastebud. The BEST smoked ribs I have ever tried. Wings are meaty. Great friendly atmosphere. I'd be happy to return and try everything! Menu is small--that means they don't want to over extend. You want a burger, Gastro Pub food? This is your place. Is it a "student drinking hangout?" No. But the good selection of beers and snacks the mellow patio and interior, means this is a great place to meet friends and have food. Good selections of beers on tap. They really cleaned this place up since I went to law school next door almost a quarter century ago. They still serve drinks. They now serve food, and it's pretty solid. I was originally attracted to this place because it is within walking distance of my hotel, and when I want to have a fine Ale or two I prefer not to drive. So I took a stroll over to The Hub, and walked in. Sadly, there were no customers. Thankfully, they were open and fully staffed and they were happy to see me, which is always a nice way to start. So the waitstaff directed me to their menu on the chalkboard, I made a sandwich selection, and then I made a beer selection from a separate chalkboard and they offered me either a booth, a seat at the bar, or the outdoor patio in back. These days, I always take the outdoor option: better safe etc. It's a great space, out back. Lots of room, separated seating, overheat radiant heaters, and the ever-present football game on a TV (easy to ignore). I sat down with my excellent pulled pork sammich ($5 on Mondays) with a side of slaw and a Scotch Ale from Morgan Territory. Ah! As I was finishing up the college kids (from nearby Santa Clara College) began arriving in twos and fours, and it was gratifying to see the place get busier.
