Met a friend for a Saturday night dinner. They have valet only which was very backed up, but they got it moving. Once inside we waited about 10 mins after our reservation for our table. Place was packed and was good vibes. I ordered the coconut margarita and my friend had the spicy margarita. They both were missing something and were mediocre at best. We only ordered the one drink since it took that long to try to get through it. Ordered the empanadas for an appetizer. They came out along with bed and oil. The empanadas had no seasoning and was bland. For entrees, had the shrimp with garlic sauce and saffron rice which was recommended. My friend had arroz con pollo. They came out fast, however it was a real disappointment. My friends chicken was so dry you could tell by just looking at it. My shrimp were decent however it wasn't anything to write home about. We both agreed the rice was good. Salad before the entrees was pretty basic but good. We were so put off by the food and drink that we opted out of dessert and couldn't wait to pay the bill and leave. The server was attentive and we did not take out the food experience on him. Updated - yeah I'm disgusted after finding metal in my salad. Never again will I return after promoting only good things about this restaurant I take everything back. Sorry but that's disgusting and unsanitary. Will post picture. We really enjoyed our dinner at sangria 71! Definitely a nice atmosphere with delicious food, and excellent service. I had to try the mango sangria, $10 for a glass. It was delicious! A must try. I had the seafood paella and added half a lobster, $32. The seafood was soooo hot and fresh! I really enjoyed this dish!! My boyfriend had the porterhouse steak which he liked a lot. Reason I am not giving 5 stars is because they don't allow any substitutes for anything! They will charge for getting French fries with your entree instead of the "potato chips" but really who wants chips with steak? I was going to order the salmon but I wanted to substitute the onions for spinach, and they said "no". I like a restaurant who works with you to give you what you enjoy. But it's not the end of the world I would still love to return to sangria 71 and I definitely recommend to my fellow foodies. read more

Loved it here! It was a great location for an intimate birthday dinner. We ordered the Paella Valenciana for 2. It was made with generous amounts of spices and seasonings. Each of the meat or seafood types managed to maintain their own flavors while perfectly blending with the meal as a whole. It was beautifully presented and topped with a flower. Super delicious food. My Bumble "date" took me here before he took me to his place. First time coming here and it was really delicious. The sangria was soooooo good. Let's just say I got very happy from it. I had a delicious, juicy piece of meat with a side of fries and onions. It was super good. I can't remember if it was the NY strip or Fillet Mignon. Like I wrote, the Sangria really got a hold of me. Well, I did also have a mojito cocktail drink. So yeah, those drinks really made me want to party. Don't believe me? We have been enjoying delicious lobsters and sangria all summer; however, last night was disappointing. we ordered cappuccino which looked like milk and when i complained, it was not taken off the bill. this made a lovely evening less enjoyable. read more

I don't often write a review the same night we eat at a restaurant, but wanted to get this off my chest. This is a hard one. The food was excellent. Not just good, but top-notch delicious. Between my in-laws, my husband and I, we had quite an assortment of tasty tapas and meals, from their meat and cheese platter to the two tapas I picked (mussels in garlic were to-die-for good, and the chorizo a la sangria was wonderful), and the Paella my husband and mother-in-law had. We all tried a bit from each other and we're extremely pleased with all the flavors. The service was also excellent. Carlos was our waiter and he was friendly and informative, spoke English and Spanish (my in-laws are more comfortable speaking Spanish). He was just the right type of attentive. We even liked the ambiance... a place to dress up or come a little more casual. Perfect. But here's where is gets wonky and goes wrong. I wanted to give them more stars, really... but it turns out they wouldn't take the gift card issued by the Queens location (Williston). The gift card was for $100, so it was a good portion of the bill, but they would not accept it. We tried to justify it to my in-laws with an explanation that maybe the locations are owned by different people, but it turns out that it's two brothers who own both locations and even share the same website. I really cannot understand, though I tried, why they couldn't have accepted the gift card. It was bought as a gift by another family member of ours who lives in Queens for my mother- and father-in-law who live on Long Island, and that's why she bought it. Not a nice thing. My very kind in-laws were taking us out for their sons birthday but are retired and didn't expect to foot a $150 bill without the benefit of the card... and since it was a gift, hubby and I didn't have money on us either. Luckily, my father-in-law had the cash to make up the difference, but honestly, it did create a sour taste at the end of an other wise splendid dinner. For that reason, I have to lower my rating... and it's truly unfortunate. I'm sure they don't run into this a lot, and honestly, when they do, they really could - and should - honor each locations' gift cards. This situation was nothing a phone call couldn't have resolved considering the locations are both owned by the same two brothers. On a recent visit to sangria 71 we had the lobster special. Instead of bringing melted butter, which all restaurants supply they provided us with some yellow oily liquid. Terrible but the time I found a waiter who could not help us and then had to wait for the manager. Finally, the manager supplied us with real melted butter. Of course our lobsters were cold. I have drove past this place a few times and always mentally added it to my "list". Let me tell you when I finally got there, it did not disappoint. Their Happy Hour menu is VERY generous. I got the mango sangria pitcher and it was delish! I had the skirt steak and green beans, also amazing. But the manchego cheese sticks with honey we're out of this world. Live music, nice environment, arrived 15 mins earlier and waited 10 min with reservation. Advantage is that the seafoods are super fresh. On the other hand the original taste of paella is just above average and rice could be softer. Adding the source is very delicious though. read more

I love me some good tapas and sangria! I had high hopes for this place since this is their second location on Long Island and it has always been busy. Came here for an early dinner at 5pm on Friday and there was no wait. We ordered the red sangria, fish coquette, grilled octopus, meatballs, bacon wrapped scallops and paella. The best things were the grilled octopus and paella. Flavors were spot on and although the paella was a bit soupier than what I prefer, it was good. Sangria and meatballs were fine but do not stand out. The bacon around the scallops needed to be more crispy to contrast the soft texture of the scallops. Fish coquette? let's just say some frozen supermarket fish sticks are better with more real fish. My girlfriend and I arrived at about 9:00 for a late Friday evening dinner. We started off with the chicken empanadas, meatballs and scallops in lemon sauce. The tapas were all great. We followed this up with the seafood stuffed filet of sole and the skirt steak. The grand finale was churros with chocolate sauce and the lava cake. Everything tasted wonderful and seemed very fresh. My cousin and I stopped in to have lunch on Saturday and I'm so glad we did! The interior of the restaurant is sophisticated yet minimalistic, the atmosphere is reflective of the Spanish culture. From arrival to departure, we were treated with the upmost attention and detail, service was absolutely exceptional. The best part about the experience was the food we were served. We ordered a pitcher of red sangria, la tortilla Espanola as an appetizer (SO GOOD), la paella Valenciana (made with chicken and seafood) as our entree, and a slice of tres leches de coco cake for dessert. The drinks (Tequila martinis) tasted like water. At the price they charged it was totally unacceptable. We asked to speak to the manager who repeatedly told us how wonderful his bar tender was, but refused to do anything to rectify the problem.
