11/3/2019: We returned to Sandbar with 2 other couples, one of whom reserved one of the private dining rooms. I'm guessing our 1st experience here was an off night because this dinner was spectacular! (I'm sure being in a private dining room helped, as the 6 of us were able to carry on conversations easily making it a very pleasant experience.) The food, appetizers, salads, entrees, dessert & coffee were each 5 stars. Service definitely improved from our last visit, and was on point in all areas. Glad we returned. We now agree this is a 5 star dining experience! March 2019: Last month, we were looking forward to our 1st dinner here having heard so many good things about the restaurant. Unfortunately we did not find it to be the 4 to 5 star venue others have rated it be. As to parking, there's a public lot across the street as well as street parking. We started with a shared tuna tartare appetizer, which was the best thing we had. It was very good. The Sandbar salad came next - it was a good salad. For entrees we had the sword fish, which was good but nothing outstanding and the chicken pot pie, which was watery beyond acceptable. That was a big disappointment. Cocktails are plentiful but overpriced. $17 for a measured pour of Macallan 12 yr scotch seems a bit excessive on Long Island. Our waiter was knowledgeable and reasonably attentive although our Pellegrino water sat in a bucket and wasn't refilled without us having to ask. The busboy was pleasant but needs refinement of training. For a restaurant that holds itself out as high caliber all should know who gets what and also shouldn't address women as "lady". The first experience for dinner was great, but my most recent time going for Happy Hour on Saturday wasn't. We were not allowed to sit at the table and was told to sit at the bar. However, we observe that people who came before and after us, also for Happy Hour menu, were seated at the tables. Not happy with the discriminatory treatment. So I've heard great things about SandBar from a bunch of my work friends. Specifically because of Chef Guy. I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant. I was told to try their duck tacos AND their scallops. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing their sauces are that are paired with the dishes. It completely makes the entree. I usually go to Grasso's down the block, I'm a creature of habit, but I will definitely be coming back on the regular for our family dinners. This place has such an exquisite atmosphere- PERFECT for a girls night out for dinner and drinks. Their happy hour is amazing- $1 OYSTERS!! At first, we weren't able to get the time slot we preferred because of our late scheduling on our part, but the hostess Lauren went above and beyond to accommodate. Thank YOU! Ok, I have to say, hands down the salmon dinner was possibly the best salmon I ever ate. Skin was crispy and fish was so tender and flavorful. Paired with the pickled corn side, quick fried mushroom and basil aioli sauce, this dish was just heavenly! Other dishes at the table were seared scallops, bass, and halibut, all prepared to perfection. Must get the chickpea fries here. Amazing job Sous Chef Graham Beck. read more

I went here today with my fiance and I enjoyed it very much. I am giving this restaurant a 4 stars instead of 5 because I did not like the fact that they did not have any bread out on the table like restaurants usually do so you can eat at your own pace while waiting for the entree. Another waiter was walking around and he literally placed one piece each on our plates. I didn't like the fact that we had to keep asking them for a vinaigrette. I say this because I am used to seeing restaurants having everything at the table without being told what to bring out. Usually the bread is out along with butter olive oil and vinaigrette. That was the only one negative thing I saw about the restaurant however everything else was really good. The place was quiet it had a nice feel to it and it was extremely clean and I very much enjoyed the service because the waiter was around a lot to make sure that our every need was met and he was very pleasant and he was not rude. I ordered their kale salad and it was amazing. I definitely will be going back to this place again with my family. read more

The place is very beautiful and everyone is very sweet. I am looking forward to coming back. Hopefully I won't get the same table. I need to start this off by saying it almost pains me to write this review . I fine dine a lot therefore i probably am slightly pickier than someone who goes out not as often as myself.. About a year ago (or two main menu changes) this was hands down my favorite place in the Huntington and cold spring harbor area . The food was impeccable, the ambiance is always nice for a date, and the waiters do an excellent job of making you feel comfortable whether you are an average girl like m o super wealthy like many there . ;) Unfortunately, the past two menus they have created just do not mix with my taste buds - or anyone I've gone with. I always loved their pairings of out of this world sauces with meat, in fact, this place totally brought my dining / foodie self to the next level. Their sauces were always light and amazing textures that hit just the right spot. lately though, it's like me and sandbar are going through a very sad breakup! I'm not really sure what happened to the menu, as it sounds delicious but when you try the food it's almost like they someone is trying too hard to think too outside the box, failing in the process. I got the rare tuna when i last went which was cooked to perfection however the soubise sauce it was paired with tasted kind of like only flour, butter, and maybe a teeny bit of seasoning. I really only tasted flour and butter unfortunately and within about 3 minutes is was hardening and almost unusable. IIt was paired with whole spring onions, whole tomatoes, and spinach leaves. The onions were decent but the tomato confit literally tasted like canned tomatoes from tuttorosso . Eeeek. My boyfriend got the special "smoked green circle chicken" so we could try their appetizer and dessert. this came with chickpea fries as the appetizer (not fans - this wasn't really a fry but instead a rectanglluar mashed potatoes made of chick peas!) and chocolate pot de Creme for desert. The smoked chicken tasted very moist and like a regular oven cooked piece of chicken, nothing good nothing bad. There was no sauce on it which surprised us. This came with grilled lettuce (didn't touch as I'm not a lettuce fan) fingerlings and a green goddess sauce. The sauce was only on the potatoes - which were cold (intentionally) and to be honest tasted exactly like a cold potatoe salad with way too big potatoes. I think we weren't fans of this because when we asked how it was it was described as a ranch sauce on the chicken and very different. We were not expecting potatoes salad for obvious reasons either. I'd recommend all waiters to explain this fish as more of a barbeque cooked taste as it reminded me of something I'd eat on Fourth of July not on a rainy day for a home cooked chicken meal (hope that helps all future diners! As it was decent just not for the mood we were in). The chocolate desert was chocolate mouse, whip cream & a really thick graham cracker. The graham cracker was AMAZING. i think the chef was trying to pair the sweet chocolate mouse with a more bitter / less sweet whip cream, but it tasted like the chef was trying too hard and personally i was not a fan. I am a huge sweet addict so i think because of the very non sweet whip cream i was thrown off. I really wish the appetizer & chicken dinner were explained more accurate as they were extremely different than the picture painted to us however the server was still ver nice and did a good job otherwise. I really did love this place so much that I'm willing to say maybe i just don't have sophisticated taste buds that have evolved with the times ;) On the positive the service is always great and this is a super cute place... there are just SO MANy good places in Huntington that i unfortunately will not be back until their next menu change! If this place was anywhere else on the island where there aren't so many delicious restaurants in a small radius, i probably would continue to go, as it's better than most restaurants but just isn't holding a candle to the other restaurants in Huntington. I hope next year I'll be giving a 5 Star again when the menu changes ! read more

Great time on Friday night at the Sanbar. Sat at the two seater and meet a nice couple their baby and dad. It is a great spot to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Especially love the bar area. Had a great flat bread pizza, crab cake, tuna and drinks. Service was very good. GM is a great hands on manager from my observation. Went to sandbar last night with my fiancee since we were out on the island putting the final touches on our wedding. Being in a celebratory mood we decided to stop in to sandbar. We got there a few minutes before the kitchen opened for dinner service so we sat in the bar area, which was beautiful and the bartender very friendly. The main dining area was also wonderful and has great boating theme. The food was fantastic. We got the octopus and tuna tartare. Both dishes were flawless and but the octopus is a must. It is my fiancee's favorite dish and she orders it any chance she gets. Perfectly charred and perfectly tender. For the mains, we had the duck and seafood bouillabaisse. The portion of duck was very generous and delicious. The skin was perfectly crisp and still juicy. The only flaw in our meal was the lobster in the bouillabaisse was a bit on the tough side. However the rest of the ingredients were very good amd I could drink the broth for days and never get tired of it. The service was also very efficient and friendly. We noticed which we were there that the servers knew quite a few customers names. Repeat business was a good sign the food is always in point and we will certainly be returning read more

Is it the best meal of your life? No. Is it a great local restaurant with good food and nice atmosphere? Absolutely! Would I go again? Definitely! Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I drive more than a half hour to go eat there? Probably not. It's great as a local joint and for those people visiting the area or in the area. Check it out if you're in the csh/Huntington/lloyd harbor/laurel hollow/Syosset neighborhood, but don't make it an out of the way trip. You probably have just as good places in your own neighborhood. This was the best dining experiences we had during the COVID-19 pandemic. We made a reservation and was seated quickly. The tables were spaced out appropriately. Our waiter Edwin was phenomenal and kept filling up our wine glasses. Food was spectacular. We go two appetizers, the ribs and the flatbread which were delicious. Our entrees, the Mahi mahi tacos and sandbar bowl were sooo yummy. The manager check up on us during our dinner. Wine was reasonably priced and delicious. I had the grilled halibut that was thick and moist and flaky . They had a very nice wine list a lot to choose from. The salad and the vegetables were fresh and tasty . I'm giving my honest opinion after dining here once. I am not impressed, I was expecting more from a Guy Reuge restaurant and one that was rated highly by Newsday! I love Mirabelle and Mirabelle tavern, so of course I was expecting excellent food. I dined with my husband and two friends. To start I had the foie gras of the day which was really good. My husband had the tuna tartare which was mediocre as he put it "no flavor". One friend had the oysters which were good. But they could not find the horseradish, so not as good as they could have been. Our other friend had the clams casino, which he let me try. Again mediocre, not great but not awful. I felt that they were a bit under cooked. But that may be my preference. I like a clam to be cooked if it is warm not warm and raw. If I want raw I will take them cold. So on to the main course... I had the scallops and risotto, again mediocre. Not a lot of flavor, I would not order this ever again (if I go back) just blah. My husband had the duck, he said it was "ok" but not great. He said it was only tasty if you ate a bite in conjunction with all the other things on the plate. The duck was bland alone. One of our friends had the wild boar dish, which was good but not great. Our other friend had salmon which was good. Dessert was not very satisfying. I had the pound cake which was stale. My husband and his friend had the "hot fudge" sundae which they both said lacked hot fudge. I will say that the ambiance is wonderful, it is a beautiful restaurant and the staff was very friendly. If the food improves I might return but for the price there are better restaurants on the island to go to. read more

First, let's start by handing over some credit to the amazing designer behind Sandbar's interior.  Talk about a gorgeous setting! Everything from the eleven light fixtures hanging from the dining room's ceiling to the nail heads on the comfortable blue chair was well thought out.  It creates such an impressive setting. We started with beautifully fresh shrimp cocktail, and I was just in heaven. I could have had that all night, but I broke away to dive into a beautiful medium rare duck.  One thing that really stood out to me during my time at Sandbar was that everyone was so hands-on. People were running dishes to various tables, clearing tables, and engaging guests. This includes the manager, who I saw seating several tables, and even taking empty dishes from tables.  At one point, I asked our server, Kristen, to point the way to the restroom, and as she was offering to walk me over, someone came by and just whisked the empty dishes from her hands - without her saying a word. The teamwork of this staff is so evident and impressive! read more

Simply fantastic. From start to finish, we had an amazing dining experience. Staff was incredibly nice. Even when they were a bit delayed with bring our food out, one of the cooks from the kitchen came out to apologize. (No apology was needed. It was a packed house and we totally get the volume of orders the kitchen staff had). Highly recommend the braised octopus appetizer. The foie gras was also very good. The wrapped monkfish was an excellent choice. Service was great, but I wish the wait for our table wasn't so bad. I spent about an hour and a half searching the internet for a nicer place to eat last night...a tad different from the places I already know, and preferably on the water. After much research, I landed at Sandbar. I had a 9 PM reservation. I didnt want to eat that late but that is all they had. Found a parking spot on the street, and entered the restaurant. It was packed...a good sign. Lauren, the hostess, was by far one of the best in recent memory. I have quirky friends, and one of them was really "on" last night. She was amused by his antics, and was just so super cool. We had a nice corner table. We quickly ordered a seafood tower at $65 (shrimp, oysters, clams, lobster, king crab, scallops, and tuna tar tar). I ordered the farmhouse salad-the best I ever I had. My other friend ordered the halibut, and the duck tacos were split. The tacos came with rave reviews by my friends. Both were flipping out over the taste,and their facials showed it. We also had 3 cookies and milk (the milk is a thin vanilla shake), and truffle fries. The ambiance is very nautical, very loud because of the constant flow of people coming in, but the food was impeccable. We had plenty of lemon for the seafood. It was a half order. Our waiter was very good, and very efficient. He got a kick out of our expressions with every taste of something new. The manager, I hope it was James...Was first class. I told him of my plight to have a great dinner, and all the looking up I did...He shook my hand, offered me a drink, and made sure our experience was a GREAT one. He is also a hard worker. Pitching in wherever their was a need. Cleaning a table, seating guests, going around doing PR, etc. FIRST CLASS moves. Love professionalism. We all agreed we would come back. My salad was $15, the tower was $65 split by 2, the dessert menu is $11 per item, the halibut was $34, a ginger ale was $5. Cant remember the rest. Two negatives that aren't really negatives....We missed the sundown so being right near water was not relevant for our experience, and the seafood tower, as great as it was, we both thought the clams,oysters, crab, lobster, scallops, etc were baked. They are good raw too, but our minds had baked for whatever reason...so just know that....but it was exceptional. And to end this on a crazy positive.... I get a call from Lauren today (the day after, the hostess), and she just wanted to be sure we were happy and had a good time. THAT is remarkable and unheard of. Kudos! This is why people return! Att: Foodies, Wines lovers and cocktail mixologists... This state of the art restaurant had it all for me. Its only a 3 minute drive from Huntington Village and has an atmosphere and staff unlike any around. I've been in 3 times to eat and loved everything! The local Oysters were the freshest I've had on a long time, the organic Chicken, Peconic Bay scallops and the Duck especially, blew me away. Superb quality behind all the dishes and a huge selection of wines to pair perfectly. For Lunch I sat in the bar area and enjoyed some of the best and most creatively infused cocktails ever as well.... nothing like I've ever had outside of Manhatten. Big Fan! read more

Disappointed. We were seated at about 8pm. Our main course was served to us at 9:30. While the service was pleasant, it was painfully slow. When we finally got our food, only 5 of 6 people were served, which is a major service pet peeve of mine. What's more the swordfish was dry and overcooked, my burger was on the cold side. Another in our party had the wild boar ragu, which was over seasoned and tasted like a meat version of Apple Jacks. Nothing that we ordered was anything special. All in all, the slow, inattentive service and mediocre to poor food overshadowed the nice, clean decor. we left very non-plussed. read more

Spoiled the hubs on a recent Friday night by finally giving in and came to Sandbar. While the town is very quaint and the restaurant for that matter is too, beyond walking in you will be greeted by a hostess that somehow has a little tiny table set up, tucked away on the right as you walk in (I know we passed her when we walked in). While the inside is very pretty, I pretty much felt like I was squeezed into my booth, surrounded on both sides of my table by huge noisy parties and could easily hear their conversations. To me, it's a friday night, I'm out with my man and I want to focus on him, not hearing about Aunt Helda bunions. We stared the night off with the lovely charcuterie board with delicious meats and cheeses, but I wished that our server explained what they were. just dropped off and left to figure it out... While our wine glasses were never really empty and overall service wasn't too bad, not explaining the charcuterie board should really be a big no-no. Overall, the server for the other tables surrounding us seemed to be paying closer attention to their guests and did explain specials (something we had no clue about!) For our entrees, I had the strip steak with those AMAZING potato & truffle croquettes and was very pleased. Hubs had the blackened Mahi Mahi was was also very happy. Portions were a good size. We ended the night with the chocolate lava cake and was also delighted. I just left feeling like there could have been more with this evening, overall impression is that I might be back, but it will be a while and probably won't be again in 2017. Rarely do this but good service should be rewarded. We only had a beer at the bar and we know we are coming back. My wife and I stopped in after hiking. Nautical metro decor and excellent friendly service from Dan the bartender. He was an excellent ambassador for the restaurant and he worked the bar attentively with personal attention. I found this place when I couldn't get a reservation for tonight at Prime in Huntington (also very good if you like this place) I'm so glad we discovered this place instead!! We had the chickpea fries on the yelp recommendations of other reviewers! Delicious- crispy on the outside creamy on the inside. Very satisfying fried app. We also had the grilled calamari with colrabi and white beans, very good- I think if we ate that before the chickpeas I would have enjoyed it more- it's light and delicate and the chickpea fries being fried are heavy. But i would have expected the calamari to taste more grilled, they were soft- good, tender, but not what I expected. I would call it a calamari salad. Very nice summer dish. My father had the Long Island duck duo- leg confit and breast- perfectly cooked, with a pepper caponata. So flavorful. Perfectly cooked is the theme of this restaurant. My mother had the special fish- a branzino fillet on a bed of zucchini noodles. The fillet was melt-in-your-mouth tender while the skin crispy. I've never gotten excited about a zucchini noodle but the sauce was buttery but light, delightful. I had the 12oz dry aged NY strip steak. A thick cut- perfectly cooked- I like my steak rare and they did not disappoint. Sautéed shallots, morel mushrooms, and haricots vert. In a wine sauce- so delicious. Not overly heavy but lick-the-plate delicious. For dessert the chocolate pot de creme- homemade whipped cream, toasted hazelnuts. We had a bottle of Sancerre and two glasses of the malbec- from these choices i can say the wine list caters to a variety of tastes in wine, it's diversified but carefully selected. The service was delightful, precise and prompt. I can't wait to return. read more

Interesting experience... went for a 6pm dinner and arrived at 5:50. We were told our table wasn't ready although clearly, there were a few tables for two open. They suggested we wait at the bar. The bar and the dining room are extremely well done, actually, beautiful. My wife and I had been at the last restaurant which was located here so we can appreciate the work the new owners have done to the building. Our table was ready at 6:05pm. Once seated, we were shoulder to shoulder with the other tables for two in the restaurant. The seating is very tight in all areas of the dining room. Needless to say, we could hear every word of the two couples sitting on either side of us. In summary, beautiful space, very noisy and tight seating. The wait staff was very nice but not really attentive. When we ordered glasses of wine, it took over 10 minutes to arrive. For appetizers, my wife ordered the crab bisque and I ordered the clams casino. We also ordered the chickpea fries to try because it sounded very interesting. The clams casino and the chickpea fries were outstanding, A+. Unfortunately, my wife's crab bisque was luke warm at best, but tasty. For dinner, I had the duck and my wife had the scallops. Both entrees were very good but the duck was over cooked. The biggest problem was, I ordered another glass of wine with my dinner and it arrived once I was finished, disappointing. I think the restaurant has some kinks to work out with wait staff and even in the kitchen. Food is good and very interesting. I will go again someday in the future to see if it stays on our 'go to' list. read more

Impeccable service and lovely atmosphere. Great water and bread coverage. A tiny bit too eclectic menu for my taste, but overall a definite 4 stars. Reservations a necessity. IS a bit pricey and if you drink and have dessert could range from at least $125- $150 a couple. The tuna crudo could have used a dipping sauce and the duck taco had a real kick to it. The Bronzino was very good. The kale salad ( if you like kale) was mixed with watercress which was not a hit at our table. The menu IS limited so check their website first. read more
