Ordered to-go from Sandbar last night. I have been to Sandbar once or twice in the past, and recall a superb dining experience. Last night's take-out was no different. Located in the cute town of Cold Spring Harbor, we took our food down by the water and enjoyed dinner while watching the sunset. The duck taco was so yummy. The meat was moist, tender and flavorful, and the combination of flavors - hoisin sauce, cilantro, scallions, jalapeno - came together perfectly in a soft tortilla. The Margarita Flatbread sounds simple, but it was one of the best flatbreads I have ever had. The crust was crispy yet chewy. The dough itself was so tasty and I just loved the cornmeal crust. The sauce was fresh and delicious. You could tell the cheese was of good quality. The proportions were perfect. The spring salad was a small portion, but good. The steelhead trout was delicious. It was served over basmati rice which was both bland and overcooked. During this pandemic, Sandbar advertises take-out, curbside, and delivery. I am not sure what the difference is between Take-Out and Curbside, as they do not actually bring the food out and put it into your car (like I have experienced at most restaurants). 4.5 Stars. (I prefer to round up if I'm in the middle) I went to Sandbar with my husband this Friday night and had a great experience. The decor is fabulous, I love the high ceilings and the lighting fixtures they have are beautiful. Beachy decor for seafood restaurants can often come off as cheesy but they did it so well that it looks super chic, and the fireplace makes it feel cozy in the wintertime. The staff is very attentive, polite and knowledgeable about the food and drink selections. Our hostess was super sweet and our table was ready for us as soon as we walked in. Our waiter was exceptional. He had great recommendations for cocktails and wine as well as menu items and the way he described the specials made it very difficult not to order every single one! The Manager, James, was very nice; he checked in on us to see how the meal was going more than once. I also noticed him helping out the wait staff throughout the night; cleaning off tables, setting them and bringing drinks to customers. I love seeing Managers stepping up to help; it shows he really cares about excellent service. For appetizers we ordered the Chickpea fries and the Gnocchi. The Chickpea fries are to die for. Honestly, I wish I lived next door so I could go there on a daily basis for these fries and a glass of wine. The texture is just so unique - it's got a small crunch with this soft interior, oh and the sriracha sauce they serve with it is the perfect complement to the fries. There are 6 fries per order which is a lot for 2 people but they're so good we finished them all. The Gnocchi was good, a little heavy, nothing wrong with it but nothing spectacular either. Our second round of appetizers included the foie gras of the day and the soup of the day. The foie was pain seared with grape jam, toasted brioche, roasted fingerling potatoes and a micro green salad. This dish was perfect. I love foie and the dish as a whole completely exceeded by expectations. The combination of the brioche with the jam with the foie is just genius. I could eat this dish every single day. As for the soup, seafood bisque with shrimp and lobster, it tasted good. The only complaint I would have is that the lobster in the soup was overcooked. Between apps and our main course we ordered the small portion of the lamb buccatini. It was absolutely delicious - the pasta was perfectly al dente, just the way I like it! The lamb was tender and really gave so much flavor to the dish. I am so glad they offered the small portion because I really wanted to try it but not be locked into it as a full meal. For our main dishes we both ordered the specials. I got the marinated flat iron steak with gorgonzola hash browns and haricot vert. I highly highly recommend the restaurant to take this off special and put it on the menu and keep it there forever. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had, hands down. I saw the NY Strip that was on the menu (the people next to us ordered it) and it didn't look nearly as good as my flat iron. My husband ordered the Pan Seared Stripped Bass with baby brussel sprouts, cocked clams and lobster. I honestly think this dish has a lot of potential but I wasn't in love with it. The skin on the fish was not crispy at all. It has great flavor but the texture was not on point. I would have preferred the broth to be poured table side so that the piece of fish and the Brussels weren't sitting in it getting mushy. For dessert we got the french toast pound cake. Dined here again this week. Food has been on a steady decline over our past few visits. Service was fair, though I was verbally insulted by a member of the kitchen staff. Truly inappropriate and unprovoked comments made by a line cook as I was walking out of the restroom . Will not be returning as management could not care less about the incident. read more

Drove from Oceanside yesterday and it started out great, as we were greeted and seated by a lovely, statuesque young lady, and it all sort of went down from there. We ordered 2 drinks, Perf! We ordered 2 apps and our server asked us something like if that's all we are getting or something to that effect, didn't really appreciate the question or really understand why it must be asked. I eat out at least 14 meals a week, and just didn't get it. 5 minutes later, ordered our 2 entrees and another drink. 25 minutes later our entrees come out, ok, whatever. 40 seconds after that, she brings us our apps and wants to leave them on the table, I thought it was rude. They did acknowledge the error, apps were on the house but to put all of that food on the table, again, I just didn't think was right. You messed up, leave it at that, let the help eat our apps. Seeing how the apps were ready and they just sat in the kitchen for 15 minutes, to me speaks volumes about who is working there. If someone actually cared, they would have seen these dishes up and asked about them or brought them out. After the app problem, our server became a, well she wasn't nice after that. My heart bleeds for this place as it is a nice place and what we had was very good. It bleeds because our government is giving people $1,000.00 a week to sit home until September and help are next to impossible to get, even worse for a place in this location. Had dinner at Sandbar earlier this year. The restaurant is located on the main street in Cold Spring Harbor and is decorated in a very New England beachside style. There is white and light wood everywhere, with beautiful open windows and airy fabrics. I had the following dishes: Tuna Tartare (3/5): Standard tuna tartare. The tuna tasted very fresh, and the avocado was great as well. However, there wasn't anything special about the dish. Chickpea Fries (5/5): Truly amazing. Soft with a crispy exterior, warm on the inside, and served with a delicious sriracha aioli. The fries themselves are difficult to keep in one piece, but they were incredibly good. A must-order. American Artisan Cheese Tray (2 goat, 1 cow) (4/5): Tasty, artisanal cheeses that were fresh and served with crackers, grapes, and jam. Heirloom Tomato Salad (ricotta, basil, focaccia) (4/5): This salad was very fresh. Very fresh tomatoes, with excellent ricotta that was well-complemented by basil. The focaccia that came with the dish, however, was way too hard. Grilled Swordfish (vegetable fricassee, red onion marmalade, basil oil) (4/5): Incredibly tasty swordfish dish. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the vegetables, red onion, and basil oil went so well with it. Ratatouille (1/5): Very unappetizing ratatouille. The vegetables were soggy, and the base was bland. I tried the following drinks: Whalebone (Tito's, pamplemousse/grapefruit, lemon, lime): Light and fresh, full of citrus. Bourbon Smash (Four Roses, St. Germain, lemon) I really enjoyed my dinner at Sandbar. It is definitely one of the best restaurants I have tried on Long Island, and I would love to return soon. read more

We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The restaurant only had a few tables occupied it was only 6 pm. We all ordered drinks, my husband needed to send back his espresso martini it was bitter and watery. He asked them to remake. It came back within minutes not even enough time to remake it was exactly the same. We ordered two appetizers. Only one came after waiting 20 minutes we asked the waiter why weren't the appetizers served together. He had no clue that the second one was missing or did he care. My husband told him forget about the second appetizer, he didn't want the entrees to be delayed. After another 45 minutes our entrees still were not served. We asked the waiter what was the delay. He didn't even notice or seem to care. Over 1.5 hours since we had been seated and we didn't have dinner. After another 20 minutes a manager came by and asked was everything okay, we explained the delays and the missed appetizers. She went to the kitchen and had the entrees expedited. She apologized and offered dessert on her. When it was time for dessert two of us did not want dessert and ordered coffee and a lemon cello, the lemon cello was terrible and was charged for both. Truly the waiter was clueless and unapologetic. The manager should have followed up and never did. We frequent this restaurant and have never had any issue before. I would think twice about going back. There are many good restaurants in the area that would appreciate the business. read more

Was here this previous Monday for a corporate lunch after passing by here for years. A few of my friends had made the stop and had told me how good it was and I was happy to finally get to try it for myself. The place itself is nestled on Main St CSH, and it is a really cute building. There is a parking lot just across but it was completely full at lunch time. I imagine parking here to near almost always be an issue unless you know the area. The restaurant itself is on the smaller size, but doesn't feel of it, and has a nautical theme. It is truly very pretty inside. We had a prix fixe lunch, and I went with the chopped salad, roasted chicken, and tiramisu. To start, the chopped salad was delicious, it had bacon crumbles and a very creamy burrata with white balsamic. The mix of flavors was perfect and the portion was enormous. The main course was also phenomenal. I never usually order chicken out, but it came with truffle risotto which intrigued me. It was excellent and the chicken was flavorful and moist. I was stuffed by dessert but the tiramisu was also delicious, it was a different style (almost like a pudding cup that was layered) but just as good as any other I have had. You get to realize just how busy you've been when you finally discover one of the best experiences in upscale dining right close to home and it's only two miles away and worse yet, it's been open for six months. MR found this awesome establishment on our trusty yelp app and suggested I take her for oysters on a week where we definitely needed some unwinding. We made reservations for 8:00 but arrived a few minutes early. The hostess claimed we could could be seated immediately so we jumped at the chance to try something new. As you walk in, there's a bar located along the right hand side and is partitioned off the main dining room. The decor is a breathe of fresh air... Light and beachy, upscale and tasteful. And please thank the maker, Some fabric to stifle the noise in a place that has such beautiful high ceilings. Conversation was easy and we didn't need to shout to hear ourselves. Do you realize how important that is? Major big stratospheric plus! Kate was our server and although she had a few tables, came to us straight away and took a drink order. Kudos for recommending some awesome choices and we made sure that she was right by ordering a second round. Right she was. By the numbers: We started with the tuna tar tar matched with some oysters. At first, we we underwhelmed by the size of the oysters but they were out of this world good. The tar tar was dense and unbelievably delicious. To follow we had both the duck tacos and the grilled octopus. Grilled octopus was the star of the show but the tacos were seasoned very well. We were served by four separate people who constantly made sure that water glasses we full and plates were cleaned as needed. Kate again was awesome in being available to us as needed and all four staffers even apologized to us when the fresh and super donuts came out only a few minutes late. Tie that to a snifter of chambord and a nice cup of coffee, and along with my beautiful company, made for a truly memorable night out. This might just become one of our favorite haunts. read more

PERFECT TIMING IN MY BOOK.. Fourth time I've been back it gets better every time The staff is so nice. Everyone operates as a team and really seems to care if you are enjoying yourself. I had the swordfish and it was perfect! I would say that i would continue to go back time and time again this restaurant is a hidden gem! Parking is easy the bar is great the decor really nice they don't rush you and the service is fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant! So close to huntington village which is full of great restaurants this place is definitely worth going one town over! You wont be disappointed! Make reservations you'll need them. This place is a hidden gem! Tucked away on the north shore of Long Island it's a must go. They have an amazing selection of seafood that never disappoints. Recently we went post COVID and the restaurant was so clean and inviting. I ordered the seared scallops and the tuna tartare as an appetizer, I would definitely order both again! Still has that new restaurant smell. The staff were top notch. Very professional and knowledgable. Had a cheese plate to start which was excellent. Also tried the foie gras of the day and Cesar salad. Both wonderful. For the main course we had the salmon and chicken Parmesan. The salmon was very good but a tad oily. Dessert was delicious, get the milk and cookies. Here is why there is one star missing. Noise level is out of control LOUD. You can't hear yourself think that's how LOUD it is. The ceilings are vaulted cathedral and the floor is wood. No carpet anywhere so the sound echoes and travels. I actually had to put tissue in my ears because of the noise. I don't think the owner is to concerned about this as the people who designed this space must of known it was not going to be a moderate level for sound. I came here with my family for dinner for my mother's birthday and I was pleased with my experience. We arrived at 6:30 and were seated right away as we had a 6:30 reservation. Right when we were seated I asked where the restroom was and was shown to it, and throughout our meal the service was similarly wonderful. Our waiter came right away to take our drink orders and as soon as our drinks were brought he took our meal orders. First we were given some bread which I feel deserves a mention as it tasted fresh and I enjoyed it a lot. For appetizers we got the Oysters which were very good and came with fresh horseradish and I liked that. We also got an arancini special which was pretty enjoyable, it came with carbonata underneath which I really appreciated and the arancini themselves were ok, the flavors were wonderful but they were a bit drier then I usually like. For my main course my mom and I shared the Long Island Duck Duo Leg Confit and the Branzino special of the day. The Branzino itself was cooked very nicely, perfectly crisp, and seasoned well, but the sides were a bit underwhelming. It came on a bed of grains with some green beans and they were not bad but just lackluster. The Duck Duo, however, was incredible. The duck leg was so tender and practically fell off the bone and the other cut was crispy on the outside but not at all chewy and very easy to eat. The pomegranate sauce it came with was nice since it was not overpoweringly sweet as many duck sauces can be. The sides with this dish were wonderful as well and I especially liked the parsley root because it added more dimension to the dish then a typical mashed potato and it tasted good with the sauce and juices for the duck. For desert we got the ricotta donuts and the apple cobbler. They sang to my mom for her birthday and put a little candle on her plate which was nice. The ricotta donuts were very moist and I especially liked the vanilla sauce it came with. The apple cobbler was very good as well although the apples could've been a bit more cooked. However the crust on the cobbler was nice and it was not overly sweet. After we finished the man who initially brought us to our table cam and asked how our meal was and wished my mom a happy birthday which was nice. The service throughout our meal, like I mentioned before, was incredible and they checked up on us to make sure we were okay plenty of times. This place is top knotch. I had my birthday dinner here with my family and we LOVED it. We ordered the $65 half seafood. The fish was so fresh that the entire table devoured it in ten minutes. I got the salmon which crumbled away with the touch of my fork. My husband had the duck which I would definitely recommend getting. For the dessert, I would try the milk and cookies. It's beautifully decorated. The only con I would say is that it's cold (though I can't really say that's a con, since it's my own personal preference). The waitstaff seem to have a lot on their plates (no pun intended) and sometimes it's hard to flag someone down. We had to remind our waiter three times to get the coffee we ordered - but he was so incredibly nice that we didn't mind. read more

First of all, what a beautiful exterior and interior. The inside is bright, clean and has a spacious feel. It was the right balance of classy yet approachable. I heard great things about this place and was excited to try it over this past Thanksgiving break. From what I've heard, the Chickpea Fries are one of their most popular appetizers. I was intrigued as that wouldn't be the first thing I would have normally chosen, but wow. They came stacked in an artistic way on top of some smooth sriracha aioli. The fries were just the right amount of crispy and had an outstanding flavor. I loved them and could see why there was so much hype! Entree wise, I will say ... if you don't order the Braised Short Rib Pappardelle, you're doing it all wrong. There's times that meals really stick out to me and this dish is something I will always remember. Their pastas are incredibly fresh and made in-house which - you can ALWAYS taste the difference and extra attention. It was slightly chewy and eggy which is my favorite. Not to mention, you can never go wrong with short rib. I loved this dish. We also tried their Sandbar Cheeseburger which again, was a hit. The bacon-onion marmalade was a great and seamless addition to an already well-cooked burger. The Sandbar is a gem in the little village of Cold Spring Harbor. Possibly the worst dinning experience I have had in years. How do you run out of bread before 7:30 on Saturday night, that is just bad management. After waiting and hour and a half for any food the manager was rude and promised a drink and then didn't bring it and ignored us. After multiple request for food, we did actually get a drink. When food finally arrived is was below average and under seasoned. Not sure why anyone would put up with poor overpriced food and service when there are tons of decent restaurants 10 minutes away in Huntington. Too bad you can't give zero stars read more

I just finished having lunch here with a friend. I struggled with giving it a two or three star rating. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful! Upon entering the dining area I was mesmerized by how beautiful it was! I knew coming into this place that it was going to be pricey no problem! I enjoy a good meal no matter the cost! I started with their Rosè sangria total disappointment! It tasted like iced water with fruit. For my second glass I switched to a sauvignon blanc. We had three appetizer the first duck tacos it was my first time trying duck and it was good! Second appetizer was a Spanish octopus with chorizo and potato. I love octopus it's always a must when I see it on a menu! The octopus was sadly just okay not good not great just okay. Our third app was a crab cake, it was pretty small for its price tag I was left wanting more! The food just didn't justify the price! The Sandbar is a lovely spot in a beautiful little town near home. The decor is exceptional. It can be a bit noisy but its other qualities help make up for that. The service staff is very attentive, and tries very hard to please. I prefer to go at quieter times but even when it is crowded it is fun. Our food has been consistently good. We had terrible service. We waited over a half hour between ordering and receiving our food. There was an entire 20 minute period where our waiter didn't even come by the table, and she never updated us on our food or apologized for the delay. The manager who seated us and our waiter were both quite unfriendly. I also am appalled that a $5 iced tea doesn't come with free refills. Seems like they could have comped us the refills given the 30+ minute wait for a salad and sandwich. That said, the food was good. My husband's Cobb salad looked adequate and I enjoyed the shrimp sandwich, but the service did not match the price point. We would not return here. read more

The food at Sandbar is perfectly cooked but lacking in Flavor for me, much like Prime. I also worry that they just leave ingredients out that are on the menu. I ordered a halibut and it was meant to have ginger in it, but there was none I could taste and I cook with ginger a lot. Based on the menu's description of the ingredients for this dish it should have been really delicious but it was very bland. The Octopus salad was good, but once again very mild flavors. Having said that flavor is not something many Long Islanders seem to value, so maybe they are sensibly catering to their base which has very conservative tastes...Yelp! readers excluded of course :-) The good news was that none of the meals were sweet. read more

If you are looking for a special place to have a Bridal Shower or any party look no further than Sandbar in Cold Spring Harbor. I had a Bridal Shower Brunch and the atmosphere in the private room was classy, elegant and first class. First of all the food is AMAZING from lobster rolls to hamburgers and everything in between. ( and don't forget the chick pea fries, they are to die for.) You will not be disappointed. And as good as the food is the staff is even better. The management team of James and Dan is top notch. They are there to help in anyway to make your party a success. And Dan I can't thank you enough for helping me with the TV set up for my bridal games on video. Thank you also to the excellent bartender/wait staff of Kristin, Edwin and Franz .The party wouldn't have been a success without your hard work keeping the drinks and food flowing all afternoon. Expensive, but Amazing. I have to admit - this has been of the best dinners I have had in a long time. Sandbar is expensive, but I don't mind because it keeps the the riff raft out. The architecture of this building is very awesome, with high ceilings and nice dim lighting feel to it. I'll break it down to food and service. Food/Drinks: Started with a marked up bottle of Riesling for $60 which isn't terrible. The owner/manager came to let me inspect and taste it as all fine restaurants do. Very nice though. For appetizers we did the Pita Fries and Pork Belly. Absolutely amazing!!! I recommend for everyone to get the Pita Fries with a tasty Siracha sauce. The pork belly was tender and tasty - out of this world. Our entrees were the Flat Iron Steak medium rare, NY strip medium rare, and the Scallops. All cooked to perfection. My friend said he loved the steak and I tried it - was yummy! My flatiron had a sweet taste to it and it was awesome. I hate scallops, but my girl said it was the best ever. For Dessert, I did an Amaretto and the key lime pie. This is in a TALL glass and is good for 2. This dessert was great. My friend had the goat cheese cheesecake - I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE CHEESECAKE. Honestly, it was disgusting - but I didn't order it so it didn't ruin my meal! My friend hated the cheesecake. This is the reason I gave it 4 stars overall and not 5. My friend mentioned it to the waiter - James did apologize but if we're dropping $300 for 3 people - just go get him a different dessert. It was almost closing time - the waiter could have done more right than apologize. The desserts go to waste anyways. If Not that comp him on a drink. I've been to many other upscale restaurants who do right. Out of respect for my friend - I had to knock SandBar to 4/5. Service: The hostess (blonde) was very charming, pleasant, and apologized for the mishap of having us as 2 people and not 3 for our reservation. She kept her cool, didn't give any push back and for that reason she was a 5/5. James our waiter was awesome. Professional from start to finish minus not offering a different dessert bc it tasted terrible. James was friendly, explained everything in detail, and answered all our questions. For my girl and My meal - absolutely a 5/5. Barely spoke to the Bartender but she had a great smile and was very friendly - 5/5. The bus boys were all great and attentive - 5/5. Overall: My rating would be a 5/5, my girls 5/5, and my friends 4/5. AMAZING FOOD, AMAZING SERVICE, AMAZING AMBIANCE. This is a must visit! BEWARE: PRICEY, but amazing!
