I usually decide if an Indian restaurant is any good based on how they execute on what I think are basic, and core dishes. These include items like Saag Paneer, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, or any kind of Naan. If they cannot provide edible versions of any of these, do not waste your time getting a Mutton or Fish dish from this place. Last Saturday, I arrived at Samburna, by chance. They were having technical difficulties that day, but they made the best of it. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. I also wanted to try their Naan, but for bread, they had 2 other options: Malabar Parotta and Chappati. I believe I went with the Chappati (It was the flaky of the 2 choices). I also had a Mango Lassi. The bread was light, and tasty. The Chicken Tikka Masala was well prepared, and flavorful. I enjoyed my meal. read more

I finally found some authentic south indian food especially the meat dishes. The medu vada, mega dosa, manchurian gobhi and Alleppey Fish Curry were all great. Please dont put chocolate sauce on gulab jamun plates as it may not suit the palate for someone used to the original dessert. Very polite waiting staff too. read more

I have visited this resturaunt once, but I also had their food ordered for an event few weeks ago. My review after trying food at the event: I was not too excited to try this restaurant in person as I was not impressed by their food. At the event we had chicken curry, goat biryani and chicken 65. Chicken 65 was flavorful good portion but it was too dry. Chicken curry was pretty good. Nothing out of the world but good enough to enjoy your meal. Biryani, this is not your traditional biryani, recipe was had an influence from other places. However I was unimpressed. I love biryani and this place does not meet my standards for biryani. When I actually visited the restaurant for lunch one afternoon, we ordered dosa, uthappam and Idli. Their dosa was perfectly done and crispy, masala for dosa was pretty good as well. Sambar was meh (Additional comment: For a south indian restaurant I would assume they should know what portions of sides and chutneys should be served, sambar served with dosa was just as big as my chutney. Seriously!!) and chutneys were okay. Idli was soft and fluffy and good, portion of sambar served with idli was lame (they do give you additional sambar when you ask for it but I'd rather not. Uthappam was perfectly cooked and tasty. Overall: I may go to this business if I want to have a dosa or idli or uttappam. I do not recommend this place for chicken curries and biryani. read more

Really enjoyed my first visit to this new establishment in the area. Despite a few Indian restaurants in the area, a few dishes seem different (no naan, but alternative is very good) We had a goat curry and fish curry and enjoyed both. read more

Loved it. Been twice here. The chicken dhaniya curry was amazing and they have paddu!! (Paniyaram) they have unlimited dosas on Wednesdays and it's a pretty small place so can have waiting in peak hours though not much. Paneer dosa was good too and the filter coffee was just like the one you get in India. read more

I happened to visit Samburna on a busy Saturday with my friends and family. We decided to have take-out and we were so happy to find the complete cuisines from south india on their menu.. May be hence the name "Samburna" [ complete, entire ]. The dishes were very authentic and very much nostalgic to have a feeling that we were eating from back home! Parotta, veg biriyani, and Chicken chettinadu were a treat to the eyes and stomach! Giving it five stars for great quality and living up to the name! Definitely recommend! read more

I visited here a few days ago, and I generally enjoyed the experience. The food is unique and delicious, however the major factor that put me off was hearing the microwave beeping in the kitchen constantly. It would beep when the cooks entered the time, and beep when it finished. I really hate paying for microwaved food. It would be far better to throw it in a pan and simmer it for a few minutes. Also, I didn't like how the window to the kitchen was curtained off. The restaraunt is beautiful and it would be much better if they removed the curtain and proudly showed the chefs cooking the food instead of staying behind the curtain while using the microwave. Please consider changing this. read more

We went there for my birthday dinner and had samosa, medu vadai and pakora for starter - perfect flavor aMD texture. their parata is just like what I always had in Singapore, texture and flavor. then dosa was delicious as I expected. very authentic and decently priced. servers are very friendly and fast. Expect a bit delay during weekend due to high volume of guests but other than that they're impeccable. don't forget to order madras coffee and masala tea. those are the best to drink with your meals read more

Tonight we ordered the vadhu ( some of the best tasting ), dosa, malabar parotta, and paneer butter masala...the quality was superb! After our last experience we didn't visit this restaurant for over a year and this time went just because of lack of an option. But to our surprise food was really good we ordered masala dosa, baby corn manchurian, veg kurma, chai and malabar parotta. Masala chai was awesome, Dosa was perfect crisp and veg kurma was close to what I got in Saravana bhavan once and was searching in Seattle forever. Was here for a late evening dinner with a couple of my friends. This place is very accessible and has opened in a very good location. Though it was more than a few miles from where I live it was quite easy to figure it out. Since it's a brand new restaurant, the decor and interior of the place was very new and shiny, gives a good cozy vibe as you enter the place. The overall decor is a creamy light color pervading throughout the restaurant, even the tables. I liked the brightly lite concept and I did enjoy the contemporary touch. This place is a casual dinner and a good choice for dinner on a Friday. Looks like the restaurant doesn't have a proper reservation system in place, so they don't guarantee any table if you call like 30 min before (even if they have some tables available). So, maybe they'll sort this out as they go. The restaurant was quite full and we had to wait a little bit to get a table. The weird thing was there were clean tables ready to occupy but still no one was there to tell us to take the table ! We were staring at a clean table for good 10 min before we were asked to sit there. Again, the "new restaurant" feel is pretty apparent. After we got the menu(whoever designed it, did a good job) we decided to try the most suggested items on Yelp for this place. We ordered, Prawn pepper fry for appetizers, Chicken 65 biryani (because they were out of Mutton biryani - it was almost closing time), Crab curry and Appam for main course and Ras Malai for dessert. After a long wait(a bit longer then usual restaurants), the first item to come on the table was Chicken 65 biryani, which it totally weird, coz we were expecting the Prawns. Anyway, we dug into it and it turned out to be a tasty dish. I liked the awesomly flavorful rice which was topped with chicken 65. The rice was succulent, spicy and goes well with any protein you put into it. One thing that was a little unsettling was the chicken 65 on top, which was actually not chicken 65 but chicken Tikka. No complaints on the chicken as It was a little sweet and creamy and very juicy. I loved eating the rice and chicken, it was a match made for each other. Renaming the dish would be a better option. Also, don't expect this dish to be shared, this serves one person to their satisfaction. Raita was served with it and it was overly salty, which just cannot be eaten with anything. But, it was rich and creamy. Overall, it was dish worth trying. 3.5/5 The Crab curry was bit of a pleasant surprise to me and a shock to my North Indian friend. The dish had whole crab broken into halfs, which I love eating, of course you need patience and both the hands for that. The expectation was that it would be only crab meat and not whole crab, that's why my friend was shocked. I guess, that should be made clear in the menu, coz a lot of people don't expect whole crab. The dish was very traditional and authentic, this is how you get to eat crabs in a lot of places in South India (at least in Tamil Nadu). I dug into the crab and enjoyed the whole experience which was a treasure hunt for crab meat. The curry was very well infused into the crab and it made it very tasty. The only down side was the gravy was overly salty and I just couldn't have it. But I swiped off the gravy and had the crab. If you love the experience of having whole crab, go for it. 3/5 Prawns pepper fry was a good dish too, authentic and had a very home made feel. The prawns were a little over cooked and too big for the dish. I would have liked medium size prawns for this dish. The spice level was high (can be dialed down a tad bit) and the peppers give a very good kick to the dish. The curry leaves, onions and tomatoes were blended very well into the dish. 3.5/5 The Appam(2 pieces) was very nice, crunchy edges and fluffy middle. Pretty standard and textbook cook. They gave it in an unusually large plate with just one appam and a small cup of coconut milk, the second appam came in a different plate, may be they need to change how this is going to be presented. The appam was decent and had nice, smooth texture. The coconut milk tasted very artificial and had sugar added to it. I would have enjoyed natural coconut milk. 3.5/5 The Ras Malai was really good. I usually don't enjoy sweets, but this was perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, fluffy, soft Malai in rose water infused Ras. The texture was spot-on and I loved how it melts in your mouth. They added chocolate syrup and what seemed like a strawberry syrup for esthetics and taste. Good that none of them were overpowering to ruin it. I felt the syrups did not add much to the dish. This is a dessert worth trying. 4/5 Overall, I liked the restaurant, I'll be back to taste more. 3.5/5. read more

I went with my daughter and ordered a cone dosa, the waiter asked whether I wanted it plain, and I said yes, which means still cone dosa but with plain treatment with no ghee or masala. But it was served as a regular wrapped dosa, I kindly denied it and requested a cone wrap plain dosa again for my kid. But the immature waiter was unhappy and started ranting about me in hindi near kitchen, assuming I didn't know the language. I could have easily made a big fuss out there, but I didn't want to ruin the environment of other families who were having a peaceful lunch! Food was spicy with average taste for the items we ordered. Service was Poor. We visited last weekend at lunch time. This restaurant is in pre-opening phase hence a trimmed menu was available with few vegetarian options. We ordered Dosa, Idly and a Tea. We found food to be of average quality. Sambhar was too spicy for our taste even though we tolerate decent spice levels. While serving Lady was courteous, food arrived cold to our table. Requested to reheat Sambhar but was ignored and did not get even after waiting for 15 mins. Water glasses left without being re-filled. Asked Tea to be brought towards end of the meal, but got it at the beginning. Overall, not a good experience. read more

Love the food at Samburna. The Malabar Parottas and Kurma are my favorites. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Bothell. Only feedback is that sometimes the waiters can be a little over enthusiastic. They should give the patrons a little more time and space in between orders and avoid checking in too often. As Samburna is a small-ish kind of place, the hustle makes the place looks more crowded than it is. This is a tricky feedback; If waiters check in a little late it is bad but checking in too often is not preferred too. Has to be just right. You guys certainly need to get a bigger space too. Please keep up the awesome quality of food though and don't lose the chef! read more

Looks like Samburna have substantially reduced the portions. I have noticed this in my last few take out orders. Got Chicken noodles and as usual less quantity but still paid $15. This time it was too oily and tasted really bad. read more

Taste is okay but the prices are just too high for the quantity they offer. I wish they could be liberal with quantity if they are charging 15$ for a nonveg curry. Also the starters don't come with any chutney with it, it's just too dry to eat it alone.
