When you arrive, you're taken to a Chipotle-style line where you select your base and all of the toppings you're interested in, but all Indian food. There is a good variety, the flavors are good, and the food was tasty. You'll pay for your food at the counter right after they make your bowl, and clean up your table when you are done. There's seating inside and some available spots outside. I wouldn't drive out of my way to visit, but if I was in the area again I would eat here more frequently. read more

My third review here but not my third time going but I will say Sam and curry has definitely improved as my last visit happened to be a fluke with the bad paneer I got. I went back and got all my favorites - white rice, salad, paneer, corn, with all the sauces on the side. It was delicious, especially paired with the lemongrass fountain soda which tastes just like a lychee drink. Here's the trick with Sam and Curry, the flavors can get overwhelming and turn into a flurry of spice if you add everything to your bowl and say yes to everything. I'd recommend sticking with 2-3 sauces and chutneys and asking for them on the side to get a more chipotle feel and to be able to taste the flavors individually. Overall it's definitely a unique take on fast food Indian and I'm around so I'll definitely be back. read more

Turns out my experience with the rice was not a one time affair. I visited again and they still had the grease heavy glistening rice. It will be good if they can take this feedback and reduce the amount of fat in the white rice as it's not enhancing the flavor and just makes the overall dish extremely heavy. read more

I liked the concept but by no means it can replace the Mexican burrito for me. When you walk in everything reminds you of a chipotle store and it becomes really difficult to normalize your expectations toward an Indian dish! The whole setup is very similar, the way the kitchen is located, the grill, the sides etc etc is just like Chipotle! This reminded me of SAJJ that took the same concept and brought the Mediterranean flavor to it. Comparing to SAJJ, Sam & Curry in my opinion has done a better job in choosing their menu to fit in the burrito/taco form. You get burrito and the first bite in, I was like this is not a burrito and doesn't taste as good as a burrito. Haha. It took me a little bit to finally adjust my expectations and half way in I started enjoying it more. The familiar Indian food taste with explosion of flavors was right on. The staff were friendly and the price is pretty good, I liked and will go back when I'm in the neighborhood. A solid 4 star for this restaurant. read more

"Like Chipotle, but Indian" is pretty much the easiest way to describe this place, though it's definitely got quite a slick interior and more of a hip vibe going. The curry definitely makes for a much wetter burrito so eating it with much caution is warranted (the rice bowl might be the more practical choice), but the flavors are pretty solid with a good amount of spices and spicy. Very reasonably priced and good portion sizes. Seems like a winner to me! Parking is right next to a SJC airport Marriott, so a decent number of parking spots. Seating is ample for both inside and outside, so you have plenty of options. The sole front-of-house staff member was very courteous from the get-go and walked us through the entire selection of offerings (and offering some light recommendations). Dude was also extremely careful building up the burrito so the things were nicely distributed in a line; I can appreciate that extra effort so I don't get a mountain of rice and no curry for five bites. I myself went with a Chicken Curry burrito, my brother went with a lamb curry variety. I only nipped a bit at the lamb, but both curries tasted quite scrumptiously flavorful and very tender. Also reasonably spicy too without any major additions of the hotter stuff. Toppings were fresh and the combinations worked pretty well. However, the curry burrito definitely is wetter than most burritos so if you layer on things like a curry main with a loaded biryani and potato/chickpea curry with sauce and chutney....you get the idea. The roti was quite delicious, but you'll need to be careful with your foil bottom to make sure you don't get curry everywhere. The concept is cute, but next time I might opt for the rice bowl. :P read more

At the ordering counter, there are choices of Rice-Bowl, Burrito, Tacos; however, the things to put in them are Indian food. A great idea. I had the Lamb Curry Rice Bowl ($11.95). I chose to have a combination of most of their offerings (rice type, curry, and toppings). You see everything in front of you as the staff member builds your order. The food is well seasoned and flavorful! I could smell the Indian spices in every dish. I enjoyed the lamb curry, chicken tikka, shrimp curry, and palak paneer in the taco, burrito, and burrito bowl form. I really like both breads that they offered. It was very moist, soft, and fresh. They make their own breads fresh daily here. The palak was interesting cut to be like French fries rather than the traditional cubes and was coated in spices. The food does come with some heat so kids may have a hard time eating here. The meat portions were very generous and inexpensive for that you get. One order was enough for lunch and dinner. There was also an option to add extra meat. I wasn't a fan of the saag as it had a weird bitter taste and very different from what I expected. I wish they had butter chicken here as an option (maybe in the future). The online ordering platform was somewhat confusing because add ons were listed individually as ingredients and as an add on, so it seemed like one would be clicking the same items twice. I'm not very familiar with this type of cuisine and they always answer all my questions about the dishes & toppings so kindly and with so much patience. Ordering your food is a step-by-step process; you choose your base, then your protein, which type of curry you'd like, your choice chutney, and then various toppings. All things are optional and you can also ask for half&half! You can choose to make a burrito, a rice bowl, salad bowl, or tacos. They also have samosa chaat. I've only tried their bowls & roti. They also have really cool options for drinks here too. Different from other places. This time I tried their lemonade and hibiscus drinks and they were so good. The bowl I made this time was 1/2 chicken tikka (with the added tikka masala sauce), 1/2 paneer & grilled veggies over cilantro rice, with chickpea curry, kachumbar salsa, cilantro chutney, chili lime corn, and raita (yogurt). I can't remember what the last topping sprinkled on top is but...just trust me it's delicious. So good and the ingredients are always fresh! They have indoor seating but I really love sitting at their tables outside when the weather permits it. Overall I love this place, really good food, sweet staff, and a nice environment. Came by this morning and I was greeted by two ladies that were so polite and attentive. Their prices are very reasonable with all the toppings and sauces I chose the chicken tikka salad bowl price at $10.95 with chopped lettuce, chicken, meat, chicken peas, tomatoes, chili lime corn, cilantro rice, veggies, potato onions and salsa a good source of protein and carb. It's a good place for take-out, dine-in or outdoor patio with the shades. I loved it and wouldn't mind coming back next time I have the burrito or the Indian style tacos. I got a history lesson from Kim and got the whole backstory of this restaurant! The man who helped Ike's sandwich blow up nation wide, a culinary master, and worked closely with Chipotle; Sam you are indeed an entrepreneur . I really hope to see more samandcurry throughout the bay Cuz I want one next to my house . The ordering process is exactly like Chipotle, but instead of Mexican style cuisine, you get Indian style cuisine. Normally I stay away from Indian food because it's pricey and sometimes the spicy level knocks me out for two days, but this kind of Americanized Indian Style food is bangin; no . Now I got two types of bowl to go meals that I'll be craving . The customer service was great, the food was bomb AF, the drink was surprisingly good, I wanted to save that guava drank to let my wife try, but I finished it before I got to the car ‍. Lastly the art inside is totally different from any other stores. Like Ike's, the color and the vibe is Poppin! I've attached some photos of their art that really stood out to me. Using only the freshest and most authentic Indian spices and ingredients, Sam and his family have been crafting the most delicious Chipotle-style meals that provide a modern fusion take on traditional Indian food at an immensely affordable price. I've honestly been back so many times since their soft opening last year, and trust me- the food is DEFINITELY worth the hype, and seriously so delicious and unique! Some of my favorite dishes include the the chicken tikka masala burrito and rice bowl (since I'm pretty basic), but the tacos, salad bowls, and paneer/lamb options are also amazing! They definitely have a lot of incredible options for toppings, and I love how I'm able to control not only the vegetable and protein content, but also the flavors and levels of spice. Was really excited to try something different for lunch and decided to check out Sam and Curry. I ordered the Roti tacos with lamb and shrimp, the bowl with chicken and lamb, and a side of samosas to go. Everything looked good and smelled amazing at the restaurant and on my drive back home. Unfortunately, the food ended up being wayyy too salty. Everything was also muddled together so it was also extremely soggy by the time I got to it (the drive back was only ten minutes, so it was still hot but too soggy to really distinguish what was what). I couldn't even pick up the tacos because the roti was mushy and falling apart. The lamb and shrimp were really flavorful and did taste fresh and tender, but other than that, 3/4 of the food remained untouched. The samosas were decent, but the sauce it came with in the same container drowned all three pieces so parts of it were soggy as well. I really wanted to like it and would be open to trying again, but probably sometime in the future. read more

The concept of an Indian fusion burrito Chipotle style is everything in my books. We started with the sushi burrito and now we are incorporating delicious Indian spices and flavors into portable goodness as well. Sadly for those that follow a vegan diet like myself, there's a lot less than I thought they could offer considering Indian cuisine is so heavily plant-based on its own. The team was able to accommodate me but here's the lowdown if you do not consume dairy: NONE of the fillings are vegan friendly. I was really hoping the saag would be vegan but they incorporate dairy (ghee) into the mixture. Your best bet is to order extra of their chickpea curry and potato onion fillings, which is exactly what I did on top of my salad bowl, and added extra veggies on top. Not all of the chutneys are vegan friendly but they had a couple that I also added. I did enjoy my salad bowl overall and had lots of leftovers for later. The chickpea curry was great and getting an extra portion of that in lieu of a main filling was perfectly suitable. I appreciate the staff there immensely for helping me build a vegan friendly meal. I wish more of their items were clearly marked or that they had used a non-dairy milk or creamer for the saag instead. Vegetarians will be okay but definitely be careful if you do not consume dairy. Just like Chipotle, don't forget to ask for a baked roti on the side. It honestly felt and tasted just like a wheat tortilla but maybe it's harder to tell the difference than I thought? Hopefully they'll consider adding more vegan friendly mains to their menu as I'm sure others would appreciate it. read more
