I made a reservation through Open Table and submitted comments that it was his big "60". Most restaurants never read that (it seems), but Salt on Mass made sure to comment on his birthday when we arrived! It was wonderful. Our waiter delighted us the entire night and ensured everything was moving along at an incredible pace, not too fast or too slow. We started with the Himalayan Salt Block Sashimi and added on the Hawaiian Poke! WOW, oh WOW. Our Old Fashioned's were amazing and perfect. Dinner consisted of some excellent Chilean Sea Bass and my husband had the specialty of the night, which was orange roughy. I added the lemon butter to the Chilean Sea Bass and tasted the citrus chili; you cannot go wrong with either one. The risotto under the Chilean Sea Bass was perfectly prepared, not undercooked or overcooked. They set the scene for a great evening and dessert to end the night. I could not have been happier with my experience and the fantastic food. Dessert included the Hummingbird Cake (amazing) and the Six Layer Chocolate Cake (yum, yum). We made reservations here ahead of the Colts "Night of the Champions" event. It was our first time visiting and it made sense given the proximity to the event. We really liked decor of the restaurant and there was tons of seating. Our server was very pleasant as well. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms, Parmesan crusted Chilean bass, and their salmon & Shrimp scampi special. The food had a good taste and portion sizes were great but our food came out cold. When we inquired about our meals, we were told the kitchen was backed up. I did have to send my drink back because the muddle strawberries over powered the drink. They replaced it with a strawberry syrup and while the taste was better, it really took away from the cocktail, so I wouldn't order that again. Our reservations were at 5:15 and we didn't get our food until 6:15. That was disappointing because who wants cold fish, ya know? We originally sat outside and the scenery was cute, the cars were driving past, people casually walking and the apartment buildings were vintage like. Our server was Tony and he made the experience fun. It was never a dull moment when he came to check on us or even bring us our food &drinks. Wow, we've been to Salt many, many times, but this was by far the best service we've had. Brandon C killed it. He's friendly, professional, and super down-to-earth. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was delicious. It paired really well with the Like Tomato Garlic Sauce. I even want to try making it myself so that I can enjoy it over and over again. This was the perfect restaurant to get a drink before walking across the street to Old National Centre. The bar is big and shaped like a square, with lots of seats, and bartenders flying around in the middle, cheerfully making drinks and taking orders. There are TVs above the bars, which were all set to sports when I was there, but it's fine because I wasn't there to watch TV. And anyway, the people-watching opportunities are copious here so there's no time to watch TV. Everyone makes fun of Carmel because it has that certain je nais se quois. But Salt on Mass is where the big dogs go to drink their martinis -- the old money Indianapolis-Carmel people. This place out Carmels Carmel. And I love it! I had a great time sipping my single gin & tonic while strangers' conversations happened all around me. This place skews older and more settled (60+), at least when I visited on a Tuesday evening. I'd like to come back some time and try the food, as my first visit included only a liquid dinner (gin). The food that other people were eating at the bar looked amazing, and I'm sure it tasted amazing, too. read more

I went to this restaurant after work and ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with the blackened chicken. There is a 16 dollar upcharge for the chicken, which again is supposed to be blackened. My chicken was basically grilled. You could hardly taste ANY of the seasoning at all. The Alfredo sauce was really good, but the meal itself is not worth the 34 pricetag, neither in portion, or the meager chicken breast placed on top. My waitress was nice enough, although not very knowledgeable about the menu. The atmosphere was good and with it being downtown, very comfortable while sitting outside. I would say, maybe try it......but avoid this grilled chicken masquerading as something else. read more

I met with a friend for dinner last night, and fell in love with this restaurant. For starters, the ambiance is so beautiful, unique and comfortable. The service was absolutely amazing. We were greeting by the owner and every single server in sight. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, and gave great recommendations. The drinks are strong and tasty! The skillet bread with the butter is the perfect. The crab stuffed mushrooms was flavorful and delicious. The fried chicken had a nice spice kick, and was also very delicious. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits with blackened shrimp, and it was amazing. I'm a shrimp and grits snob, and I loved the bite that I tasted. Overall, this restaurant is now a fave of mine! The food was incredible at Salt! I got the fire pasta and asked for a lighter spice level. It was still quite spicy but the perfect amount in my opinion. We also got the Brussels sprouts which were amazing. I highly highly recommend the cinnamon churro cake. Drinks were super yummy too. We had Audrey as a server and she was incredible! If I could give half stars, it'd probably be more of a 3.5. I came in on NYE with a few family members. Walking in, the decor was a little more modern, nautical vibe. I had a reservation, and the host greeted us and seated us right away. Things start to become more mediocre from there. The actual service was slow, and some weird recs/mistakes from the server. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir, but we were then brought a Cabernet Sauvignon to taste. When we asked to clarify, they originally told us it was the Pinot we ordered, but then they were honest and said they were out of the wine we ordered, but brought us a "wine from the same region." We picked a different bottle of Pinot Noir, and then we were again served a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. It was still good, but just an odd start. We also ordered the calamari as an appetizer, which was delicious, but took forever to come to the table. The four of us ordered lobster mac and cheese, the parmesan crusted Chilean sea bass, the bone-in ribeye, and the "catch of the day". They all turned out good. Something strange though was that the bone-in ribeye didn't come with a bone. Of course, this isn't really a steak place, so I'm not hypercritical of their steak, but if it's on the menu as bone-in, I feel like it should come with a bone. The STAR of the meal was the desserts. We got the seasonal bread pudding (cinnamon) and hummingbird cake. The hummingbird cake was AMAZING! Absolutely loved it! I would HIGHLY recommend getting the hummingbird cake because I loved it so much. read more

We LOVED the food the first time we visited, but the service was below "great". Brandon was the level of service that matched the high quality of food and really was the reason for this 5 star review. Brandon was tentative and super informative. He shared his favorite dishes and also just had a great personality to dine with. Brandon's timing was impeccable and his attention to detail contributed to one of the best experiences I've ever had in a restaurant in Indy. The food was nothing short of amazing. We had the sashimi on a Himalayan salt platter with ahi poke, sweet bread, some sort of shrimp, calamari, the surf n turf and crab mushroom caps. EVERYTHING WAS GGGOOOOOOOD. EHV-REE--THANG. They lose a star on service & punctuation. Yes, on punctuation! Come on, we all learned how to pluralize words in 1st grade. Apostrophes are for possessives, not plurals. It's "coffees," not "coffee's." Our server was very friendly, but maybe trying a little too hard. We ordered the half dozen oysters as an appetizer. He asked if we wanted a full dozen. My husband repeated that we want the half dozen. The server made a side joke to me about trying to upsell, which honestly was fine & amusing -- if it had ended there. But the upselling attempts continued with every order we placed, and it became a bit annoying. When he took our dinner orders, I said that I wanted the sea bass with a side of lobster risotto. He mentioned a special that included the sea bass, lobster risotto, and a couple of scallops, but it was more expensive than just the sea bass and lobster risotto, and I really didn't need the scallops, so I asked for just the sea bass and lobster risotto as a side. When my meal came, it was sea bass and just the regular Parmesan risotto, not the lobster risotto I had asked for. But we weren't charged the extra for the lobster risotto, so that was okay. I have to say I was super impressed with the sea bass. I ordered the Parmesan crusted sea bass, completely expecting the Parmesan "crust" to be soggy. But it was crispy! And the sea bass was so perfectly cooked. So delicious! I never eat an entire entree, but this one was completely devoured. First of all, THIS IS THE SPOT. This restaurant truly cannot be described with enough words to express the delicacy of every single detail. The tables are set with the finest silverware to napkins, to the cutest candle they light for each table. The ambiance inside feels so chic and yet also a place you can bring children. This would be an amazing spot for a lunch, a dinner, a girls weekend meal, a date night, a family gathering, a business dinner. The service was exceptional, we had Chris as ours and he was absolutely phenomenal and very attentive and listened well with all requests as well as making sure to give all his advice on the best selections and we got the best meal based on just that. The busers did a great job clearing empty plates off our table and I never had an empty water which I so appreciate! Now to the food, holy moly I cannot say enough about the freshness, quality, quantity, and the want for more of my meal! I shared a meal and an appetizer with my partner and it was plenty of food! We had the chefs special by recommendation and it was probably one of the best seafood dishes I have ever eaten, even compared to eating in the keys. Their quality of food and how amazing everything tasted together is a true testament to the love they pour into each dish they serve. Everything was hot and delicious and I cannot wait to come back to try different dishes. My drink was also very delicious and not weak at all! Very strange dinning experience. The server had an off personality which made the whole dinner weird. She was polite but kept on messing up our order and sometimes blaming us for it. For instance we ordered the gluten free dip (has a GF beside it on the menu) and when it came with bread we asked if it was gf and she said you need to tell me you want gf. She suggested the bread appetizer and we declined but she brought it anyway and acted puzzled when we told her we didn't order it. We asked to see the size of the oysters, they brought out big ones to show us so we ordered and the order came out half the size. The food was decent, nothing special especially for the price. The atmosphere was beautiful. We sat at a 7 top that had a beautiful ambiance. We had the hummus, seafood nachos, ceviche, dumplings and crab dip. The only ones i would order again are the dumplings and ceviche. The hummus was good but not amazing. We had the Van Duzer red wine which was amazing, a full body pinot noir. The waitress- who was dressed up as some sort of mermaid with greasy eyeshadow and oddly immature and cheap accessories- was so bad, she was by far the worst we had in Indiana on our trip. She appeared so annoyed, although we did not ask any questions and simply gave our order and asked for silverware when the order arrived. Later she almost dropped a dirty pen into my entree with no apology. Should have tipped her 0% and let her know not to work if you are that angry. Definitely would not recommend coming here. Service not intrusive, we came to enjoy conversation not make friends with wait staff. Dishes came and went quietly and quickly.
