Came to Salt Faced Mule to check out their food and beer. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly and offered samples and suggestions. Decided to order the chicken sandwich special (grilled or fried) with fries and a pint for $16. Beers were very good and both chicken sandwiches were tasty. The only thing off for me was the vibe, felt a bit more like a game/activity place that happened to have a brewery as the two mini golf courses and some other game options available. I came here for a private event and a fun time was had by all! We pulled into the parking lot and there was ample parking. When we first walked in, we were immediately greeted by a staff member. She oriented us to the brewery and later got us set-up for mini golf. She was a hoot and served up a little extra mini-golfing pizazz for luck! Our event was hosted in the patio area, which was covered and had heat lamps to keep us warm on a brisk fall evening. Staff was excellent all around. They were friendly and quick to serve drinks. There are two different bars to get service so that you're not queuing too long during busy times. They also have a small water station near the mini golf sign-up/gift shop area. The catered barbecue served at the event was delicious and showcased some good Carolina BBQ - pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked chicken, and all the sides - coleslaw, salad, Mac and cheese, and potato salad. The smoked brisket eggroll dip with tortilla chips was my favorite! The dip was creamy, cheesy, and had melt-in-your mouth brisket. The only things missing were rolls and some Carolina BBQ sauce... crazy enough, they only had tomato BBQ sauce and mustard BBQ sauce. Staff did an excellent job of checking on food levels, refilling them as needed, and cleaning up the space when the event ended. They have two mini golf courses here - both 18 holes. We chose the fun/cutesy/easy course which was decorated with Halloween decorations. Each hole has a small rack to hold your drinks while you putt. Since we went with the easier course, the holes did seem a little basic and not very dynamic or exciting (every hole had a par of 2), but this is a brewery with a side of mini golf, not a mini golf place with a side of brewery. Holy cow! No pun intended. The burgers here are to die for. We shared 5 different entrees and every one was fantastic! Their menu shows what's gluten free and what's not. Plus! They make their own seltzers with homemade flavoring. The pineapple is the best! Just try it. They've got a cute little gift shop where we bought a couple shirts with mules on the back and they have putt putt. Very family friendly space. Had dinner & played some mini golf here. This place is a fun hidden gem just north of Asheville. The food came quickly. The chicken fingers were a little dry. Odd since I would assume this to be a commonly ordered dish here, especially with kids. I love that vegetarian and gluten-free are labeled on the menu. I had the Salt Face Pot Roast ($20) - delicious!!! A heavier dish, but exactly what I wanted. We also tried the Smoked Brisket Eggrolls ($15) and were a hit at our table. I tried a dragon fruit margarita ($15), tasty but since the price was not listed on the specials menu, I was taken aback by the price point. Overall beers were yummy and plentiful. Mini golf was entertaining and easy to get set up. It's about $8/person if you do the 12 holes. Which is plenty if you plan to hang out for an hour! I love that you can take your drink & "park" it at each hole. Such a fun date night or friend hangout spot during the week. Also a great spot with kids! We visited in November, not terribly long after Helene came through. We were excited to come back to our second home. We love AVL and the surrounding areas so we were super excited to try a new place we hadn't yet seen, and even more so because it was actually a new place and not just a place we hadn't yet visited. We stopped in and I believe we had the smoked brisket eggrolls along with the meatloaf sandwich. We loved the food and the staff there was so amazing. We were so happy to come back and be able to support business in the area after Helene. Everyone was so amazingly welcoming and we, at times, felt out of place and possibly like we were intruding or not supposed to be there. We felt a little guilty, but the staff there never made us feel that way. The inside is very nice, very spacious too, and they offer up plenty of beer, food and activities for all ages. I had the shrimp and grits which was tasty and filling. The sausage was the weak part of the dish. Would have preferred chorizo. The serving is large enough to share. Several others in our party had the catfish sandwich. They would have preferred a tartar sauce instead of aoli. We all enjoyed the brussel sprouts. The noise level was remarkably quiet between well placed tables/high tops. Server was only seen when food was delivered which came with silverware. Food was good, nothing spectacular. I tried a number of beers and settled on one that I thought was okay. None of the beers were anything to write home about. The brisket wantons were unique and flavor was stellar but were kind of empty. The sauce that came with the wantons was very good. We also had some chicken tenders and mac and cheese for the kids. So, we were headed to Stoney Knob Cafe, which is probably a mile down the road. It's one of our favorites. Unfortunately, SKC was closed on Sunday, so we came back to Salt Face Mule. I was expecting just bar food and a brewery, but was very pleasantly surprised. It's an "order at the counter and sit down with a number place", but that's ok. My wife and I both had the "Mosey on Over Pilsner", which was excellent and apparently a gold medal winner in the 2024 NC Brewers Cup. That was a good start. My wife wasn't real hungry, so she ordered the kids "smoked chicken wings and a side of collard greens". Both were very good. I tried the wings and I thought they were very good too. Neither of us are into super hot wings, so these had good flavor and not spicy. She said the collards were very good. Will have to trust her on that one. They looked good. I opted for the "pan seared trout". It was cornmeal dusted and came with creole creamed corn and pickled red onions . It surprised me. Very tasty! The trout was served over the creamed corn with a garnish of the pickled red onions. All paired well together. Overall, very good! Now we have another place to come back to! The folks here were very nice too! Great atmosphere, food and people. What more could you ask for? read more

I usually avoid giving reviews to places when they are new. But the experience was mostly positive with a few hiccups that I hope get ironed out. So here goes. Table ordered a sampler appetizer that had wings, cheese spread, bread, jam (jam was missing), pickled veggies, and pork belly. Everyone loved the pork belly, cheese, and pickled veggie. However the wings were so dry it felt like a very over cooked chicken breast. The sauce on them would be great if they were on a better cooked wings. There was a variety of things ordered. The review from the table is the pork and peaches sandwich was lacking whatever to make it great. The chicken sandwich was a delicious. The burger was a normal burger. The meatloaf sandwich was tasty. The fries were a great texture, but the seasoning mix had sugar in it so good but not my favorite fries. I think most people will love them. The space is high ceilings and well lit. For Putput there are two small 18 hole courses that had enough slopes to make it ticky. I enjoyed playing and will definitely come back. The service on the other hand was odd to say it nicely. When appetizers were brought over they didn't bring plates or silverware. The server directed us to where they keep silverware but then told one of the people at the table to follow her to the kitchen where he came back with plates. Which is just odd to I was uncomfortable with how she handled it. It wasn't even busy. She should have brought plates with the appetizers. Other interactions with servers were similar not very pleasant and being treated like an inconvenience. I was a server for a long time and sure it's a thankless job but the minimum is tonot treat the customers like an inconvenience and it's common sense to not drag a customer to the kitchen to bring out plates to the table you should have brought plates to. In the end I liked the food (except the wings) I loved the putput, I like the ambiance, and the service was odd. So 5 stars because servers come and go everything else will likely change but more slowly. read more

Beautiful setting and industrial aesthetic. Decor is on-point and the planogram is easily functional--tons of space both inside and outside with disabled patrons in-mind. Mini golf area is awesome! I can see this flourishing. Great idea to add! But...Wooo this place is unorganized. Parking is a mess and at the end of the night many patrons were seen stumbling out the door to their cars. Obviously bar staff needs to learn alcohol intake cutoffs for their patrons or this place will be a forever precious gem for DUIs. Kitchen staff was overwhelmed. Table runners were unpleasant--we even got an eye-roll last night (9/21) because we had a family member with an allergy and we asked for the burger to be constructed a specific way (pretty simple request to make it plain) and it came out as presented on the menu--so she couldn't eat it. Quite annoying. Waste of money, poor customer service and unorganized kitchen logistics. The food read tasty on the menu but was sadly mediocre and some entrees...not appealing at all once in front of us. The dusted catfish was terrible. We are still cracking jokes about it this morning from remembering the awful smell. In addition, it was soggy, so so soggy. The grilled cabbage steak had a hair in it. Shrimp and grits entree was very salty and the buttermilk biscuit beignets were hard as rocks. Beer was good though! I'd drink here again and partake in mini golf but I wouldn't recommend eating here. read more

Even though this place is a little bit out there, we definitely wanted to make the drive to try it out. If you're in North Asheville, it's pretty accessible. There is plenty of parking and the space is huge. The inside is very modern and well decorated. I love the story that goes along with the spot. Lots of history. Interesting because it tries to communicate that it is a small business with a rich backstory, but it's really just owned by the same people who own twisted Laurel. Still local I guess? Very fun that it is a putt putt course. Seems quite expensive unless you go on a night that has a combo deal. The course is very well-maintained. We opted not to do it the day we came because it seems like there was a family moving very slow and we would have definitely been caught behind them waiting. The course is also in a small space so you would have seen each other the whole time. It seems like they also have courts to play different sports, which is super nice. I was a little disappointed because we had purchased the Asheville independent restaurant book and this is the only place in the book that did "buy one get one half" rather than "buy one get one free". It felt pretty cheap of them because a lot of the other spots are more famous and expensive but they give you more. This made our meal honestly quite expensive for how much I enjoyed it. Not really worth the cost. We like the deal because it allows us to tip a lot. The burger was quality but too salty for me. I think it was the cheese/sauce? Super rich in taste. I will say it all tasted house made. Both the fries and the chips were good options. A ton of food honestly with the side. We opted to get a single burger patty because a double was the same Price for a special and asked for one on the side, but they burnt it. Was nice as they did it give it on the side, but it was not really edible. I offered to try their seltzer because it is made in house. It seems as though they make the seltzer and then add the flavor. I thought it was absolutely disgusting. I liked the idea, but the flavor was so gross. Perhaps there is something in crafting a drink with the flavor in rather than adding it at the end. Tasted like cheap alcohol and quickly made. And it was not cheap in cost. Maybe the beer would be better? Service was pretty decent, but it's really just order at the counter and then they try to get you to tip a huge amount. All of the workers were incredibly kind though. And they were knowledgeable as well. Great seating with beautiful views. A very clean looking bar and nice bathrooms. I came here with some friends over a year ago and didn't think it was anything to write home about. But thank god my sister and I gave it another try yesterday. The food has drastically improved. We got a meatloaf plate, a BBQ Caesar wrap, and brisket wontons. The meatloaf was sweeter than I expected but it works! The fries were amazing. And the wontons were so good. They were crispy, creamy and the perfect amount of spicy. Savana was so helpful helping us decide on food and drinks. She told us to try the seltzer because we aren't big beer drinkers. We weren't disappointed. They make it flavorless on draft and add their own homemade syrup to it. The Key Lime pie and the Strawberry Jalapeño were our favorites. The fries were the best thing. The beer was okay. The sandwiches were "meh". There are so many restaurants serving WNC/Appalachian cuisine here in greater AVL and compared to most of them, this one is forgettable. Which is a shame. We had such high hopes. We love The Twisted Laurel. The food is top notch. I would never compare this place to The Twisted Laurel. Hard to believe they are run by the same people. What happened? My recommendation: go to The Twisted Laurel in Weaverville and have a much better meal. Then walk down the street to Leveler, Zebulon or Eluvium and have a much better beer than here. read more

We stopped here on our way into town for a bite to eat wanting to also try a local brewery. You order food and drink at the bar and they will bring it to the table. The food was AMAZING! I had the shrimp and grits (with leftovers for breakfast the next day) and my husband had the Anarchy burger. I had a custom flight and my husband ordered the Kolsch, which he really liked. I tried the pilsner, tell us, and weisse. All were great! One of the bartenders checked on us and suggested trying the weisse with Woodruff added. I was skeptical but thought I'd do a taste of it. It was delicious! She described the Woodruff as a marshmallow type flavor, I thought it had a hint of vanilla, which it not something you would think to add to a beer, but it truly is worth trying and much better than I expected! We got a chance to chat with Kyle before we left and decided to get a crowler of the Kolsch and Mosey over Pilsner (eat of our faves) for our VRBO in Asheville. They have mini golf here too, but we wanted to get to our VRBO, so we were on our way after the great food and beers!
