We stopped for beer flights. Small place, underground, down a little alley. The vibe here is a quiet drinking place. One guy at the bar was nice and helpful. Music was not too loud, so you could talk among your group. My review of the six beers was "entirely unobjectionable". These are well made and had no noticeable defects, but are unlikely to knock your socks off. Best of the bunch were the Red Ale and Stout. read more

Saw this place while in a walking tour. Our guide actually stopped and talked about how it used to be the shoe department of an old store. It's located in the basement on Patton Street, between Farm Burger and a Mexican restaurant. This was our first stop after the walking tour. It's a divey, dingy looking place. It wasn't, but looks like it. Kind of dark down there. We only grabbed one drink before moving on, not because of any reason other than we wanted to be somewhere in a certain time. One World has been a favorite of mine since New Year's Day 2022 when my soon-to-be husband brought me in! Although we do not live in Asheville, we make it a point to visit as often as possible. If we were residents, this would be where you could find us every week! Extremely cozy, delicious beer, and such friendly staff. Love the range of live music you can catch here - we've heard originals, Grateful Dead covers, everything. We especially appreciate the gentleman who we see working on Saturday nights - we've had lovely conversations with him and have been fortunate to see him working the past handful of times we've come into town the past year! As a Dead-head I loved this brewery. It's down in a basement and not very big but the beer is good, the bar tender was friendly and the music was great. Once you make it down to the tap room, it legit feels like a discrete cellar. It's cool, and quite intimate. They have excellent brews on tap and that adds to the overall experience. This little basement/cellar brewery is a great stop to beat the summer heat. They are pet friendly and our dogs loved cooling down on the cement floors. We always bring a bag with snacks, travel bowl, and water bottles for them, so I would recommend making sure you always carry your own because both times we have visited they have not offered water for the dogs. They have a small offering of beers, but they are good and have a variety of everything. I think they are on the pricier side, but they do come in large beer steins. We ordered a lager and a Hefeweizen and both were good, but I would almost consider the Hefeweizen a sour rather than a true Hefeweizen. read more

This was my second time to visit One World Brewing. Located downstairs and in the back corner of a building, it can be difficult to find. The night we went, there were a lot of people there. Luckily there were still two seats at the bar. I have to admit, to me, there beer is just ok. I enjoy porters, stouts as well as European beers. I'm not a big fan of IPAs, but some sours are good. To me, One World's beers are just too hoppy for my taste. On my last visit, I tried their stout, but it was also just too much with a bad piney, dry taste. read more

Really Cool basement bar in Asheville. The entrance is semi hidden on a side street and it feels like an adventure to get to it. There are both regular tables and high tops to sit at, along with games to play. While we were there, people we're playing Yahtzee and darts. The atmosphere is dark and stereotypical basement space. You can see the brewing tanks from the seating area which I thought was a fun aesthetic. I'm going to say they're dog friendly since there was a customer at the bar with a very friendly dog. Again, it's a basement space, so maybe not super ideal for pets...? But any place that is dog friendly is fine by me! The beer was great and they offered a wide selection. We stopped into this brewery when we were wandering around downtown Asheville. It's a bit hidden away, but luckily they had a sign out front. I was very happy to learn that they were pet friendly since we had our small dogs with us. We were here the night before Thanksgiving and it was moderately crowded. Located on Patton Avenue in downtown Asheville, you go downstairs to the basement for this hidden brewery. Small, but comfy there's a bar, a large community table, and then a few other tables around. I was hoping to find a malty red or amber ale, no luck. Then maybe their ESB, but again no luck. The beer tender offered samples of other beers to help me decide, but my final selection (Shoveralls Farmhouse ale) was just not as good as I wanted. We had to check out a brewery when we were in town, and since we were short on time (considering it was just a day trip for us) One World Brewing popped up on our list. Since this was technically like the first bar that I've been to since the pandemic began...and well the pandemic is still going on, let's talk about the COVID-19 safety. In the basement, which makes this place so unique, there isn't that much space, but depending on if it's busy or not you could get here and have a ton of space. When we came here it was a little busy and there were limited places to sit, but we found a spot at the bar. The one good thing about here is that you can take your drink upstairs and sit outside, so if you're worried about COVID restrictions that's what's going on when I got there. The beer that I got wasn't bad, and it was a quick one. We wanted to get in and get out, as we had a drive back! I would say that the most memorable thing about this place is that well, it's a brewery...in a basement. I think just that would give you a reason to come visit. read more

One my last full day in Asheville, I realized I had time to visit One World Brewing. Having already visited four along Haywood Road that day, I figured anywhere else I went would be a bonus. One World did not disappoint. The location is one of the cooler ones in Asheville, due to the fact that the entrance is in an alleyway behind Farm Burger's downtown restaurant, and you have to walk down several flights of stairs into the cellar of the building. I found out later that the building used to house a department store, and the cellar was where they kept the inventory with employees walking up and down a spiral staircase that you can see behind the bar when you arrive. Very cool. When you finally enter the taproom, it's amazing to see the stonewall interior and cool beertenders who are more than happy to pour a beer or flight depending on your mood. I ordered a flight, which they serve six small 4-5 oz glasses. This gives you a chance to sample more than a couple of beers without having to do half or full pours -- Asheville brewery pours are very generous in general, FYI. While I enjoyed the Queen of the Forest American IPA and the Mercury Retrograde Sour Ale was solid, with the Asheville Side Hustle and Hempin' Ain't Easy being ok, the ones that set my heart on fire were the Patcha Mama Coconut Porter and Blood Moon Dessert IPA. The latter two beers were awesome, especially the Blood Moon that was bloody magical. The fact that I was able to visit a brewery whose taproom was deep underground should be more than enough for those visiting the area to check out. If you live in Asheville and haven't been yet, now is the time. Great beers, great vibes, great times whether you're on your own or with friends. read more
