It was close by our hotel, so we decided to try it. I was so glad that we stopped here. It was a nice and trendy spot. The staff was so helpful and kept us entertained the entire night. They also made some great food recommendations. I was looking for something light, as I had a heavy lunch that day. The server recommended their salad with chicken. The chicken was so crispy and seasoned perfectly. The salad was freshly made and it was a generous portion! I was so glad I decided on it, as it was perfect. I ended up having two drinks when I was there, and there was no shortage of alcohol in them!! I hope that when I revisit the area, I can return here, as it was a great choice. Hidden gem in Biltmore Park! The best beer I've had out here. The beers are very European inspired so they have lots of lagers and pilsners to try from. I just came back from Prague so this place was a hit for me. The atmosphere is very mellow and the decor is no-other. There was so much to look at and the employees who work there truly enjoy it. I ordered the Czcech Dark Lager and Vienna Lager. Both were so crisp and flavorful, I can't describe it because it made me speechless. I ordered the Monk Burger which is made from strictly Wagyu beef. It melts in your mouth. I recommend coming here when there's no events. Trivia night made it a little bit too loud for a wind-down, but to be honest, I wouldn't mind the loudness if I was in a group of people too. Came here for dinner with friends, I am not a beer person but they had a lot of other options on the drink menu. I ended up going nonalcoholic and had a bottle of the cock & bull ginger beer which is a pretty good brand. I had a burger & salad to eat. The ranch was a fresh one so I enjoyed my salad. The burger wasn't bad but not standout either, both hubs and I asked for medium well and got medium rare, and the bun they use is too heavy and makes it hard to taste the meat anyway. The habanero pepper jack does have a kick to it so be warned. It's acceptable bar food for accompanying booze but I am not really their target audience as I like sweet umbrella drinks. I would probably get a dark and stormy if I wanted to imbibe here though. Hubby appreciated the booze more. My actual rating is probably about 3.5, 3 for food 4 for drink selection, but could go up if I try things I like more than their burger. read more

I just saddle up to the bar and order anything I want; a beer (they have a lot of that), a shot (full bar), great food (their specials are always good) and amazing, friendly service. Can't decide what beer you want? Heather has you covered. Wanna hear a cool story about any spot between here and Miami, Jim has you covered (if he's not too busy). Their TVs usually have classic episodes of The Price is Right on; the ones with Bob Barker. But they'll gladly change it to whatever you wanna watch; if you ask nicely. Oh, and there's a game room in the back (classic Galaga!) that takes quarters, they can hook you up with. I'm really lucky to live nearby and can't wait to go back. read more

Arrived shortly after opening at noon today, Saturday. Space was quiet and empty; more guests arrived later. Sierra was our server. She's a pleasant and friendly person. Nice space to drop in for a beverage and/or a meal. Many beers on tap including their own brand. My partner was craving beef and created her delicious custom Monk burger. A side of the skinny onion fries was plentiful and addictively tasty. I had heard about the Sunburst trout they serve here and was anxious to try it in the form of a fish and chips meal. What an amazing way to have 2 pieces of battered deep fried locally farmed trout. Along with crispy French fries and house slaw it was a fulfilling meal. Cock and Bull ginger soda was my beverage. The ginger flavor and heat lingered nicely on my palate after each swallow. My sense is that the food is fresh and well prepared. The menu is small and executed well. The location is a short walk from the first circle as one enters Biltmore Park. It is worth a visit anytime of the year with an ample amount of outdoor seating. As a total aside, two doors down is a bridal dress shop. Saw a bride this summer and the gown was stunning. read more

I went to Thirsty Monk with some cohorts from WCU on our break today and this was my first time in this establishment. We got there about 20 minutes or so before noon and there was nobody in the place yet. The young woman behind the counter was extremely friendly and I placed an order for a Monk Burger. I had really been craving a "good burger". I'm so glad I picked this place for lunch! Wow! What a pleasant surprise! The fries were plentiful and fresh hand cut, but the star was the burger. It was a delicious burger that hit on all cylinders. The meat was seasoned and cooked medium just like I ordered. The pickle chips, thinly sliced red onions, tomato and lettuce were all great. Sometimes when I order a burger at a restaurant, I wind up finding some of those items lacking and pull them off - not here. It was an amazing burger; probably the best restaurant burger I've had in a long, long time. Of course, Thirsty Monk is known more for their libations, but don't skip the food! Next time I will try the fish and chips! Super friendly people, great location, outdoor picnic tables for seating and delicious food. I'll definitely be back! lol read more

Easily one of my new favorite places in Asheville and hands down one of the best fried chicken sammies I've EVER had. I know I've said this before, but it was so tasty I couldn't stop eating it. So why not go walk around one of the ritzy centers and window shop? Window shopping builds up an appetite and your taste buds need some quenching? I had my pup so the outside area was a welcoming sight. The order window sealed the deal. Bartender was friendly and cheerful despite being slow. She offered Lucy a cookie and took our order. I got a moscow mule and a fried chicken sammie, my friend got the Thirsty IPA and a fried chicken sam... He had been talking about this IPA since before we even got there and his face lit up like a rainbow when they said it was on tap. I don't even think we were sitting before he took a sip, that's how excited he was lol I always appreciate when places have a moscow mug, its nostalgic and the proper way to be done. We sat at one of the many tables under the heaters. There were a few other socially distanced patrons, all were friendly and said hello to Lucy pup. She enjoyed sniffing around and said hello to a few other fur babies that passed by. Extra points for being so dog friendly! Our food came and we both noted how giant our sandwiches were. Im talking massive, no skimp on chicken or toppings. We could have shared one easily. The bun was perfectly toasted, fluffy but just enough crisp. The chicken was golden, crunchy and tender, not chewy. Thin cutlets that reminded me of the chicken parm my mom makes. Perfect for a sandwich. The fries... crunchy but soft inside. Not too salty. Done just right. Hot fresh fries... my favorite. Will try the other location since its a bit closer to my house but whenever I'm at REI, I will make sure to stop here. Enjoyed my recent visit to Thirsty Monk. I was undecided about which beer to try, and so I opted for the flight. I enjoyed each of the four beers that I tried. I also ordered a chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was stacked with meat and delicious, and the fries were perfect. Overall, the service was warm and welcoming, and had a great experience. We stopped in here for a bite to eat and some drinks when we first got into Asheville. There are two Thirsty Monk locations so make sure you pay attention, this one serves food, the other one does not! The beers were amazing, my favorite was the Amber (2nd place: Milkshake IPA) and the food was good too. They do "food flights" which I thought was a really great concept. It's a taster of like 3-4 different foods, kind of like a beer flight. I ended up with a burger, it was very good. I asked for some garlic sauce for my fries and it was da-bomb! Our table also got the pretzel (kind of hard), the cauliflower (yum!), wings (didn't try them but they looked good) and tacos (they said they were delicious). The inside is sort of small and noise carries so if there is a loud group or person they make the entire place noisy. They also have an outdoor seating area if you want to sit outside. read more

My husband loves this place and anytime that we're in Biltmore Park, we tend to go here. Me, I think it's fine. Now that their patio outdoor seating area has expanded, I'm more likely to be more happy to go here. My attitude has nothing to do with the business/space, in fact, everyone loves their beer and I am a happy camper when here because they have a full bar with liquor drinks as well (add a star for that). They also have a food menu, which I've heard great things about but for a pescetarian like me, everything I've tried from the menu has just been OK, so maybe their food is just better for meat-lovers. I hear the burger is awesome. The vibe here is just not my thing. I especially dislike the uncomfortable seats inside. 4 Stars. 1 for awesome location, 2 for the fact that my husband and everyone else seems to like this place so darn much, 3 for the fact that they have liquor (and not just beer) and a 4th for the laid-back atmosphere and awesome outdoor seating. We visited Thirsty Monk while in the Asheville area for vacation. There weren't many restaurants open for dine-in and since the menu looked fun and creative we thought we'd give it a try. When we got there we realized they were operating on a reduced menu, as many restaurants are these days. I ordered the Chocolate Stout that was on draft (which was very good!) and a philly cheesesteak wrap. My teenage sons ordered the fish and chips and a burger. All items came out quickly and were piping hot. My youngest liked his burger and it was cooked as requested. The fries were tasty but soggy. My oldest couldn't finish the fish and chips because the fish was super, super greasy. It could've used a few minutes to drain in the fryer basket. My philly cheesesteak tasted pretty good but was also very greasy. I also found three big pieces of gristle in the wrap. If we come back to the area post Covid, we would give this place a try again. We're hoping the mostly fried menu and poor quality ingredients are just temporary until they return back to full service. Their full menu looked really fun and delicious so here's hoping they come back strong! read more

Cons: The worst fish and chips I've ever had.The batter was so heavy and hard, I thought I was going to break a tooth. It was so bad that it over powered the fish, which tasted like it was properly seasoned. They need to get a lighter batter, maybe change the oil if that's the reason, and cook it less. The fish was a bit rubbery. The fries and slaw were good as was the beer. Pros: Very friendly staff, excellent beer. The white tire cheese and pretzels were amazing! The wings had a generic buffalo sauce (they have a alternative Thai chili), but were decent. Good price for the size and amount of the wings. Overall, I'd go back and try other menu items. If I lived near Thirsty Monk, rest assured I would be here at least once a week...apparently so would my kids and my best friend's kids, who liked Thirsty Monk so much they've repeatedly asked me to review it on Yelp :) Sometimes the most unplanned stops are the ones that end up being the best. We found ourselves at Thirsty Monk on a Sunday afternoon after a bust at one of area breweries. We pulled up Yelp and came up with Thirsty Monk. Thirsty Monk has a large rotation of local beers on tap and a decent menu of small plates and other bar food like tacos and flatbread. As a side note, all orders need to be made at the bar, including food. The only table service offered is when the food is brought to the table. I decided to try one of the Thirsty Monk's own brews, Brother Joe's Coffee Stout. The stout was thick, smooth, and delicious. I also sampled the Thirsty Monk's Must Love Coconut IPA. I'm not big on IPAs, but this was not too overboard and had just enough coconut taste. We ordered the kids the tacos and grilled cheese, and the adults split the soft pretzel with beer cheese, the hummus platter, and the beer cheese nachos. The kids inhaled their meals and kept talking about how much they liked the food. They had football on the TVs so I was able to catch the Steelers game while I ate and hung out. The bartenders were very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and most importantly patient. Any chance Thirsty Monk can open a location in South Florida, pretty please?! :) read more

This was my first time ordering nachos and I can see why people enjoy this so much. The special of the day, pot pie, was quite disappointing. Maybe I am just not a fan of beef? It could be but I had southern bbq and ordered brisket and that was way better than the pulled pork and chicken. There was barely any mushroom taste and it was rather small for the price.
