Salt+Charcoal and Lychi Martini

Went for 2026 restaurant week but the deal was just ok. They ran out of sesame and matcha ice cream which was disappointing. Also the wagyu option was an additional 45. Drinks were great and the steaks were delicious. The ambiance is nice although the place is small. Amazing service though! Food came on time and waitress knew exactly when to check in (this is a special skill imo). Worth a trip when in the neighborhood. May be I will come back to try the other interesting items in the menu although prices are a bit on the higher end.

Medium rare NY strip.

We made the reservation specifically during restaurant week to try this spot. When we arrived on a Saturday night, we were told that they do not honor the restaurant week menu on Fridays and Saturdays. No biggie, but wish we had known in advance. We had made reservations for the kitchen counter seats. Thinking we would be able to watch the masters at work. However, the seating is too low and you cannot see into the kitchen. So there's that. The service was really lovely. Constantly checking in for more water or if we needed anything. We started off with their Mezcal cocktail, which my husband loved. And I had a flight of sake. I wasn't in love with any of them. But they were all palatable. We shared the Shishido peppers which were absolutely amazing. Highly recommended. We asked for some soy sauce on the side and find that an occasional dip of the pepper really brings out the flavor. We also shared the Wagyu Tataki. The presentation is lovely as it is for all the dishes. However, I found it slightly chewy. But the accompaniments were outstanding. We also shared a 14 ounce 30 day dry aged New York strip. Presented beautifully. Cooked perfectly medium rare. Accompaniments and sauces. Also terrific. However, we did not find that the steak had any actual flavor. But it was smooth and easy to chew. The espresso machine was broken, bummer. But we had a pot of tea and their warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Delicious.

I had celebrated my birthday at this place twice. I have head about praises about this place so I picked this place a few years back and came back again this year. I love this cozy place with great food and extensive wine list. We ordered some Japanese appetizers. This time we had Wagyu steak tataki. Well-seasoned and tasted so good. We picked this because the Wagyu steak entree was expensive and we wanted to tasted Wagyu with a lower-price option. It didn't disappoint us. We ordered the porterhouse steak. Though it wasn't Wagyu, it still super yummy. The temperature is just as what we ordered, medium rare. And the sauces on the side were awesome. A little bit Japanese favor! Staff were very nice and attentive. I think I will come back again.

We came here in a recommendation. The crunchy oysters were amazing, so was the tuna tartare. The ribeye was delicious and cooked to perfection. We really had a nice dinner and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly, Gwen was fantastic!. Nice and relaxing atmosphere. Definitely a must!!!

Salt + Charcoal is an upscale Japanese steakhouse offering wagyu, sushi and other dishes. Prices are high, so come with that expectation. However, the ambience is great and the food is amazing. Service was attentive and friendly and Domino Park is just 2 blocks away if you want a stroll after dinner!

The food here is great as you can see. They have an insanely large alcohol menu and nice outside seating. You will never feel forgotten about outside. They always have people coming out with perfect timing to make sure you are good on everything.

My friends and I went to Salt & Charcoal to grab a bite before going out, and it did not disappoint. The service was great--our waiter gave excellent recommendations, had no issue modifying items for allergies, and checked in often. The food was everything, and the drinks were great too. We ordered the crab cake, grilled calamari, charcoal-grilled broccoli, and multiple sushi rolls--the Japanese Wagyu roll was our favorite. We will definitely be returning in the near future.

Rib eye special

After seeing foodgasm worthy photos of my friend's meal on instagram, Salt + Charcoal has been on my list of "Want to Try" for the past three years. I'd been saving it for a special occasion as my #1 top priority and that occasion finally arose as I was turning 34 this year and my beloved partner booked us a reservation for 7 PM on a crisp Saturday evening. The place comfortable seats about 25 patrons with mixed styles of tables and booths, and this lucky birthday boy was delighted to share the latter with the love of his life. We were seated in one of the booths along the main avenue with flower pots in interesting vases lining the window. The waitstaff all had a hip modern Japanese flair to their dress, and it was clear this was a moonlighting job for these models/actors. There was an extensive alcohol list with many sake's to choose from (yum) as well as the full dinner menu and specials. When shiso shows up on the menu, I immediately get it so I went with the Shiso Mojito while my partner went for a licorice-tasting cocktail I forgot the name to; both were well mixed and interesting. We took a while to choose from the extensive food menu since everything sounded good, but eventually decided on the Japanese Wagyu Roll (so we could have a taste of their Wagyu), the Yellowtail Roll for more shisho leaf goodness, the rib eye special for one which came with their signature wasabi cream sauce, a side of cheese fries and their unique uni filet mignon steak which I'd heard so much about and to which my friend said was an absolute must. Wagyu Roll -- I was worried the truffle oil would be overpowering but it worked really well in the roll. The flavours all worked well together. Although I understand the point of the crunchy potatoe flakes for texture, they were a bit distracting in the roll and I could done without them. Yellowtail Roll -- again, really well-balanced and tasty; the shiso leaf helped cut the potential heavyness of the fish and crabstick, but overall, really well balanced. I liked this one a lot. I'd definitely order either roll again, and might just come back out to have them. I was already getting full at this point, sharing these rolls with my partner, but luckily we had drinks and the steaks took a while to come out. Ribeye special -- medium-rare was the correct choice. The steak on its own was really flavourful and that 60 day (?) aging really worked wonders for it, even if it wasn't wagyu. It doesn't matter though, it was incredibly tasty and I'd come back for this again 110%. Uni Filet Mignon -- I really really wanted to love this...but it was too much. The filet mignon sits on the bottom with a layer of ikura (salmon roe) with uni on top of that. It sounds great in practice, but is way too much umami at once. The uni and ikura really overpower the dish, so much so that you can't taste the beef at all. I actually had to spread it off to try and see what the meat tasted like (delicious, obviously, but not as good as the rib-eye). The bed of watercress was a good compliment that gave lightness to the dish since everything else was so strong flavoured. Overall, I'm eagerly awaiting another opportunity to come back to Salt + Charcoal, but I'll be more deliberate about the choice of meat next time.

Just had the amazing Brunch at Salt and Charcoal in Brooklyn. We tried the new Brunch menu : DIY Temaki hand-rolls. The set include the A5 wagyu tartare, A5 wagyu+ uni, ikura, avocado, cucumber & egg for $38. It was so fun to make the hand roll by ourselves, Plus the New York strip steak was insanely tender. Come and check this place out! Follow @spinx17 for more NYC food recs!

Really nice and cozy spot to come and eat. I would even say a romantic spot. The place is a cross between Peter Luger and Japanese Sushi. Delicious dry aged steak you can enjoy medium rare, and incredibly fresh sushi ingredients with toasty seaweed you roll yourself with perfectly steamed white rice. We tried the porterhouse. The service... perfect service without any boogie energy. Just straight great service thru out the meal. All together a really nice treat for the money. We recommend it, it made for a great date for wifey and I.

30 Day Jyukusei Porterhouse Steak (36 oz)

Believe the hype. I was so very pleased with my experience at Salt+Charcoal! It started with the ambiance. What a wonderful looking restaurant. We were taken downstairs to a very intimate room. The servers were so kind and helpful. We ordered a few apps, salad, and the porterhouse. Nothing disappointed. First off, they have course times down to a science. We weren't rushed and we weren't waiting. It almost felt like the moment we were ready for the next course it was at our table. The food is sensational. The reviews don't lie! I will be coming back again, for sure!

Had higher expectations for this place based on some reviews. It is a small restaurant with limited amount of seating inside. The service was a bit slow. Ordered the porterhouse for 2, two sushi rolls, tuna tartare and S+C baked potatoes. The porterhouse was a bit underwhelming and was not as flavorful compared to other steaks I've had. It definitely needed the addition of herb and butter as well as two other sauces. The tuna tartare was fresh and complimented well with the nori sheets. The sushi rolls were a bit overpriced and were just okay.

Uni & Wagyu Beef roll

Dark inside, very romantic vibe with dimmed lighting. We've been to this robatayaki steakhouse a few times over the years and always have good experience. Very decent food and attentive service. Hubby & I recently went for an early dinner couple weeks ago on a rainy Friday evening and luckily we were able to get a table without reservation. We start off with Uni & Wagyu Beef roll which was mouthwatering good. For main course we opted for the 30 day Jyukusei Porterhouse Steak for Two, it was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Along with a side of S+C Baked Potatoes made a great meal.

Do they do a Sunday Brunch?

What's the outdoor dining like? Is it enclosed or heated?

It's a tent structure with heat warmers above.

Is this place good for kids?? (2-3 yo)

Not really. Its a steakhouse. There arent a ton of kid friendly items like burgers and fries. But if they like fancy food and quality steak, sure bring em.

New York strip steak or porterhouse?

I recommend the porterhouse

Does Salt + Charcoal take Amex cards? :O

Yes, they do.

We stopped by last Saturday night after grabbing some dinner just down the street and were grateful to be seated immediately in the back area. The vibes here are very chill and the excellent, exuberant staff really know their stuff and get excited to chat with you about wine. We went with wines by the glass and I appreciated the confidence of the menu: it was small enough to not feel overwhelming, yet curated to have something for every palate and preference. My first glass was an unfiltered orange wine from the Alsace region of France (Tout Terriblement Maceration). It was funky and almost pithy in texture, with notes of apple and apricot. Definitely great if you're looking for something a little intense and off the beaten path. For my second glass, I felt like a lighter red, so I went with the Puszta Libre, a chilled Zweigelt from Austria. While it was slightly more standard than my first glass, I loved its funky nose and red and tropical fruits. I can't remember exactly what my husband had, but he loved his drinks, too. I remember one of his glasses smelled intensely of salty buttered popcorn. We weren't going to order any food, but the couple next to us had the chocolate lava cake and it smelled SO good, so we decided to go for it. It was served simply and deliciously, with vanilla ice cream and cherry sauce.
