I woke up this morning craving pizza, but not just any pizza would do. I looked on the map and had never tried Sal's, but heard people raving about it. Dragged my hubby along for the ride at lunch and ordered an upside down slice, a Margherita slice, and Caesar salad slice. All were $15. The Caesar salad slice was giant, nice and cold, chicken was season and charred perfectly. The crust was like a cheese crouton and paired perfectly with the salad. We loved every single slice. The crust is perfect, the sauce is delicious, and we kept raving about our unexpected lunch. In this economy, it's hard to find food that's this delicious and still affordable. We really enjoyed it and will absolutely back to try other slices and pasta. read more

We'd been wanting to try Sal's for quite some time but we live on the west side of the valley. Finally had the opportunity to visit Sal's in Gilbert and well, I guess we're gonna be coming around this side more often! Everything was so good! There was a wait on a Saturday by 4pm but it wasn't too bad. Our service was attentive & friendly, the pizza was just exactly what we've been wanting EAST COAST STYLE! Garlic rolls omg! I was tempted to give this place two stars, or even one but they redeemed themselves with the arincini (rice ball), which was quite good. The pizza was limp and the sauce was sweet. The mussels appetizer was chewy and the white sauce left a lot to be desired. The much ballyhooed garlic knots were half baked, soft and doughy. They need to leave the baked goods in the oven longer and cut back on the sugar in the marinara sauce to kick the dishes up a notch. The service was good but they were clearly interested in moving people in and out as quickly as possible. The desserts looked good but I was full and I doubt I'll be going back to try them. DeFalco's is my go to Italian deli and nothing I had at Sal's comes close to approaching their quality and flavor. read more

Been going to Sal's for many years, definitely recommend them if you're in the mood for pizza. The pizza is super filling and has a unique flavor. There's lots of other good items on the menu, too. I looked up good takeout places online to treat my family while I was visiting: I ordered with ample enough time ahead and all the messaging said my order would be done in 45 minutes (at 5:04pm), no follow up texts/messages to confirm otherwise. I took my time getting there over an hour later (~6:20pm) to find out that they were still not ready. They were nice and apologetic and gave me a free soda while I waited another 10 minutes or so (~6:30pm), total time was really closer to 90 minutes, so be warned. They were very busy, seems like a popular place, there is very little parking, but they pizza in the end was amazing, generous amount of good pizza for extra large size meat lover and supreme. The other quirk in their system is that the confirmation says they need your ID and name but they only go by the last 4 of your phone number and can't look up your name. read more

It had been so long since I had food from here and I had never dined in.. it was worth it! I tried their Tiramisu Martini (divine) and their Espresso Martini (yum). My boyfriend and I split a wedge blue cheese salad, supreme pizza and the Vodka Penne Pasta. The waiter was super cool and gave us his suggestions and had a fun banter about him. The salad was crisp and the blue cheese dressing was delicious and not too overpowering for blue cheese, just right. The pizza was so good.. toppings jut the right ratio and crust was delicious. The only hiccup was we never got the pasta and we were kinda watching thinking it would come out at any minute but did not. The server was so apologetic and it came out maybe 5 minutes after that. The vodka sauce was amazing. We know it gets busy and things get missed and we never complain. We asked for take out boxes and when he brought them he brought some cannolis to take home for the mix up with the pasta. That right there is customer service beyond the call. While this place is tucked away in the business park it's super popular and rightfully so. I've been here before and I have always loved the pizza here. Since I was in the area I had to drop in it was Friday around 3pm and the place was already slammed with the sweet senior citizens having their dinner together on a Friday night. I didn't mind the wait for the love that they put into making the food it's well worth it. I'm thinking though on my next trip here it's going to be for some pasta. The staff is really friendly and they have a great to go system going on for them so if you want to just walk in and pick up your order. my first visit here was for a birthday dinner for 8. We were seated at immediately and were immediately taken care of with waters and orders of apps and salads to start. Our server was amazing with all of us despite understanding it can get little chaotic with a bigger group. She was so cool and got our orders right and out in a very timely manner. For apps we got an antipasto, rice ball, and caesar salad and pizzas we got: ziti pie, a grandma pie, a regular cheese pie, and a sausage topped pie. It was all good but my favorite was the grandma--man that fresh basil hit the spot on top of the well-seasoned sauce. The other standout was the cheese pie (I know basic) but it reminded so much of a real NY slice! I've already been back since the birthday dinner and 1. Sal's is one of my go to pizza places. I have been coming here frequently since I discovered it. The service is always fantastic. I have not had the pleasure of dining in as of yet, but that is happening soon. I have only picked up or had the food delivered via Uber Eats. My latest order was a calzone with pepperoni, fettuccine pasta with garlic and oil, garlic knots with mozarella on top, and the mini canolis dipped in chocolate. The calzones are huge and delicious. The pasta was great considering how simple the ingredients are. The garlic knots are fantastic, highly recommend getting the cheese added on top at an extra charge. Canolis are consistently good, the cream used to fill them is so scrumptious. Some other notable menu items that are very much worth trying: caprese salad, wings, grandma pizza. I have ordered pizza here for years... usually a good pie. I ordered a pizza for New Year's Eve...even went early. The pizza that I received was awful. It seemed that it was precooked and barely warmed prior to picking it up, I do understand the overwhelming magnitude of business on a holiday but this pizza was unacceptable. We attempted to come here last week without a reservation. There was such a long way that we we gave up after 50 minutes with still three parties ahead of us. This time we made a reservation and got seated immediately. They actually put little reservation placards so you know they're holding the table for you. They take limited reservations by phone. Service is very friendly. They're very busy because this place is seriously crowded, but we got everything in a timely manner. They have a lot of takeout orders and when you walk in there is a counter immediately in front to pick up pizza. You can buy pizza by the slice and you can see the pizza in the case. Next to the pizza case on the other side of the register is a case for pastries. They look delicious! There are two dining rooms. Off to one side there are booths and a couple of tables and a bar. You can sit at the bar and order food, and every seat was taken with people doing just that. We ordered a beer and a sangria, a large Caesar salad to share, and a meat lovers pizza. All were delicious! The dressing on the Caesar salad was perfect. The pizza had a lot of toppings and you got a delicious topping on each and every bite of pizza. The sausage was especially good. We will definitely be back here to try some of the other items on a menu - - there are lots of pastas and sandwiches and calzones. If they are all as good as the pizza, then we can't go wrong. After working up an appetite playing pickleball at nearby Center Court, we decided to try Sal's. It was prime time - Saturday night around 7:30pm, so we were not surprised to learn that it would be a 45 minute wait to be seated... So... we decided instead to order take-out. We ordered two simple cheese slices and the last slice of the Caesar Salad with Chicken Pizza, and an appetizer order of eggplant rollatini. We scored a table to sit at right outside and scarfed our food down... it was delicious! My son and husband ended up going back for more... my son had another slice of cheese pizza and my husband enjoyed a slice of the ziti pizza. We will absolutely be back for a dine-in experience to try some additional menu items and likely add that fifth star when we do. We came here for a birthday dinner celebration, & there were about 16 in our group. Large split dining area makes it a great spot to have a big party dine together. Upon entry we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff & they have a big display case full of Italian dessert goodies such as cannolis & cheesecake. Our server was so kind & patient with all of us, as some had never been here & questions about the menu. It can get a little chaotic with such a large group, but she managed so well. We ordered several appetizers & 5 different pizzas and our food came out much quicker than expected. The place was packed and I was amazed at how they kept everything in order & managed to get food out in a very timely manner. I didn't get to try all the all the pizzas sadly. Most of the pizzas were pretty dang greasy, which of course we expect, but this was a bit extra. The "White" pizza looked amazing- loaded with 3 different cheeses and olive oil, I really wish I got to try this one. My favorite was the Hawaiian. A classic ham & pineapple and the garlic knots were delicious as well. For dessert, we brought our own cake for the birthday girl and our sever was kind enough to bring it out. When you call for a pick up, they tell you how long it will take. You shouldn't arrive earlier than their expected time because the order will not be ready. I had went early before and waited for my order to be done. Their pizza tasted good. It is what you would expect from a pizza place. I like that their crust is thin. However, it is not crispy. The pizza does taste fresh. It seems that their Tempe location is closed down. Thank goodness they didn't burn the bottom of the pizza. It was a little close though. Had heard so much about this place on social media and from the reviews. Definitely disappointed in the experience. Came to the area for a different reason and was thrilled to be right next to this restaurant! Decided to order and take it home and not wait. It was decently busy but not every table was full. Staff behind the registers were busy answering phones, bringing food, and cooking. We ordered the supreme thin crust pizza, light sauce, some calamari, the small antipasto salad, and the chocolate cannolis. Got home and started with the salad. It was okay, nothing special, only 2 kalamata olives, decent amount of meats, some red peppers, tomato, cucumber and lettuce. Calamari was okay as well. Stayed crunchy on the way home but didn't outshine other restaurants. The pizza was bland, dough seemed tough and not thin like I expected. Honestly, it was a one and done. If all of the pizzas are like this, I won't go back. When compared to Venezia's, they have more flavor, toppings, and are cooked great. Even Pizza Hut tastes better. I think some of the other pizzas went viral and not this one. The dessert was average. Not sure if they are made in house but they tasted like maybe they were made elsewhere and shipped in. The wait time quoted was about 45 minutes and was pretty accurate. We ordered the white pizza. We felt that the crust was just a little dry and we're really craving more of a ricotta and garlic flavor. Next time we go, we are going to try the traditional red sauce pizza. It's a hard yes for Sal's. We love coming here. It has that hometown restaurant feel. Everyone is always friendly and we've consistently had great service. The lasagna is delicious. One of my favorites anywhere. My sons always order The Godmother, the drunken chicken parm sandwich, and it's delicious. The fettuccine Alfredo is delicious. The arancini are delicious. And do not miss the garlic knots. So good. We tried the rigatoni pizza once. It's kind of a kitschy idea, but you're not missing anything if you skip it. I went there with my best friend and daughter (3 black ladies) and they refused to sit us and had us waiting as if there was a long wait, but we were the only ones who walked in and everybody else were already seated. Yeap... the power of TV and marketing has proved to be successful with us... that's because we were watching Diners Drive-ins and Dives (one of favorite shows as it promotes businesses throughout the country)... so after leaving a Volleyball Tournament, Pizza was suggested and guess what was on the way home. I've had their pizzas before as part of private/home event and knew I needed to come in and get it while it's "hot & fresh"... The show hyped up several pizzas and the 2 that stood out to us were the Chicken Marsala & Bake Ziti Pizzas... So we got 1 each along with a Large Greek Salad and of course a few cocktails. I'm for sure coming back as I think we had high expectations off the media hype... The pizza's were "OK" but didn't really seem that standout like it was made on TV. This is a family owned business. Whenever we come here we are so pleased with the friendly service. It is usually busy and they do a pretty good job keeping everything clean and moving. After being seated (prepare for a wait on weekends) the food and drink delivery is fairly quick. Our usual order is a Drunken Grandpa Pizza-bonus points for that name- (Square thin crust with fresh mozzarella, pink sauce & fresh basil) and two small salads. They also have some solid and very reasonable wine selections. I have also tried their pasta and it is good. Great pizza, yummy meatball sandwiches, excellent ravioli (nice sauce). They do a really good job. We go here for lunch sometimes, but also the occasional weekend dinner. Also have had large birthday parties here (table of 14 was the largest) and they accommodated our big group nicely. The regular crust pizza is very good and in my opinion, the thick crust Sicilian is even better, but just too much bread for some. I'll take it! read more
