Went to Sal's around 3 PM on a Sunday afternoon and there was a wait of about 15 minutes though all the tables were not occupied. Our server was friendly, though hesitant to make any recommendations or share any opinions about the food, other than her love of the limoncello cake because 'it is light.' We tried the eggplant and chicken Parmesan because it sounded interesting and unlike offerings at other Italian restaurants. It was unique and fun to try, but I don't think I would get it again. It was quite heavy on the breading and there was a generous portion of cheese and sauce. We asked if we could substitute a salad in place of the spaghetti that it came with and our server did indicate they offer garlic sautéed spinach or broccoli so we selected the broccoli. She did not inform us that it came at an extra charge, though we would have still been happy to pay it, it's just nice to be informed ahead of time of any additional cost. I definitely recommend the cannolis as the filling was thick and creamy and not overly sweet and the entire shell was dipped in chocolate!
I see why this place is so loved by the locals. Their service here is exceptional and the staff is so welcoming. We already knew the food was gonna be good but I was so blown away by the Godmother. This chicken parm sandwich is not your average and in the best way. I will be ordering g this every single time. I also like that they have pizzas by the slice. It makes it easy to try a variety of their specials.
I was born and raised in NYC so I'm used to NY pizza which means I was on the hunt for good pizza when I moved to AZ. I heard several people mention Sal's Gilbert, especially their baked ziti pizza, which was said to be the closest to NY pizza they've had out here. I can confirm that it did not disappoint! It's certainly one of the closest to NY pizza that I've tried out here so far. I've had it several times by pickup or to go, and it's still just as good every time, so they've very consistent.
The food was delicious and the service was on point. My husband was quick with the calamari, so I didn't get the chance to take a picture. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. The music was at a perfect level great for conversation and the ambiance was very pleasant. Our server was very attentive to our needs. I once ordered pizza to go and thought, this must be even better dining in, and I wasn't wrong. Best of all, it's worth the drive even though it's a bit far from our home.
My husband and I came to visit family in Arizona and they suggested we meet at Sal's Gilbert Pizza. We went during lunchtime, no waiting for a table. Dining area was nice, and the service was excellent. They have a nice variety of pizza to choose from, including, pizza by the slice. They are known for their Baked Ziti Pizza, ziti pasta on top of a pizza crust and a vodka sauce. My husband ordered one slice of the ziti pizza, although, he said it was tasty he did say it was a little rich for him. I ordered a slice of pizza with mushroom and black olives, delicious. I found their pizza sauce to be excellent!! We also ordered the angel hair pasta with olive oil and garlic, highly recommend!! Everything was great, we're looking forward to coming back on our next visit.

From the hosts to the servers, bartenders, and management--everyone is consistently welcoming, attentive, and professional. It's the kind of place that makes you feel taken care of without being over the top. One thing I really appreciate is how well they handle all types of dining. Whether you're stopping in for a quick slice at the counter, sitting down for a full meal, or grabbing something to go, they always have a wide variety of fresh slices ready. There's never a shortage of options, which makes it easy to try something new--or stick with your favorites. Lately, I've been loving the chicken Caesar slice and the chicken carbonara slice--both packed with flavor and perfectly balanced. I had my eye on their taco slice this time, but ended up going with my go-to: the Chicken Francese. I always add artichokes and capers and have it served over spinach, and it's phenomenal every single time. It's one of those dishes you just don't mess with. We started the table with calamari, garlic knots, and arancini--everything came out hot, fresh, and exactly what you want from classic Italian starters. My son ordered the antipasto salad with added chicken, which was a great portion (especially for an active teen) and full of fresh ingredients. We also grabbed a couple of slices, including pepperoni--because honestly, why mess with perfection? It's always solid. Sal's is just one of those places you can count on. Great food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere every time. It's definitely in our regular rotation--and for good reason.
Finally got to try the famous Sal's pizza! We took it for to go, but as soon as we saw the place, we're like we gotta try eat here. There were so many yummy and unique pizzas there and it seems like we could order by slices as well. We got to try white sauce pizza, and it was sooo good! Generous amount of cheese and ricotta. Yummmmm. And there were pizza with chicken caesar salad as toppings, gotta try it next time!
We love Sal's! We visited today and had a great experience as a party of seven. Our party was served by Holly who was fantastic! As a large group with appetizers and entrees, she didn't miss a beat and our drinks were always filled. I sampled their cheesy garlic knots and the Sicilian style rice ball. The rice ball was one of the best one I've had in a long time, especially being fancied up Sicilian style. We also shared a pepperoni pizza. I love their pizza, but specifically their crust. It's so light and almost fluffy? You can also tell that they use top-notch ingredients--they don't skimp on quality at Sal's. My only complaint is that they are all the way in Gilbert!
We had 4 years to think about Sal's, so glad we made it back to the area to have Sals awesome offerings. We ate here twice this visit. 1st meal. I had the Meatball sub which had the perfect ration of meatball to bread and sauce and melty cheese. Could not have been better. Sis had Spaghetti and meatballs, also very good. Great sauce. 2nd meal. We ordered the upside down Sicilian pizza with meatballs which was impressive. The lite bready crust was delicious and cheesy and sauce. The real winner that meal though was the pasta-Linguine Gamberi E Salsiccia. Fat juicy shrimp, sliced sausage, tomato, peas and a creamy wine sauce, terrible pic taken because we couldn't wait to dig in. It was so, so yummy. We did have the antipasta salad with balsamic dressing which was also phenominal.
I'd been hearing so much about this place, so I decided to check them out by ordering some slices to go since I was in the area. I was immediately greeted by a nice lady that answered a question I had about a particular option for a slice. I came to learn it was called a tri-color sicillian. Since I like Sicilian pizzas, I decided to try the tri color sicillian, a plain cheese sicillian and a regular pepperoni slice. She even offered me a glass of ice water while I waited, but I declined. After about 15 minutes or less, my order was ready. When I got home, I was surprised to see i didn't get what I ordered completely: 1 slice of sicillian cheese, 1 regular slice of cheese & a regular slice of pepperoni. Shame on me for not checking the order before I left...but I can't even tell what I paid for since the receipt was only the cc copy receipt. While the pizza was pretty good, my experience was tainted since, 2 of my slices were not what I wanted, that is why I had to take it down from 3 star minimum. I don't think I can honestly recommend to my friends and will not stop by if in the area again.
I came in during lunch on a Tuesday and they offer a great lunch menu. You order at the counter, pay and they provide you with your number. You are able to sit in any of the two sides of the restaurant. They offer outdoor seating but it appears it's for larger parties. The tables are long. I order the lunch combo: 1 cheese slice, 6 garlic knots and drink for $10.88 after tax. The staff brought my pizza slice and informed me my garlic knots would be out soon since they were making a fresh batch. The marinara sauce was missing some salt but they had table salt so that was an easy fix. My food was hot, I enjoyed the food and felt the combo was a good portion.
Since recently relocating to Arizona my wife and I have been taking in the local favorites. However we have yet to find a decent pizza. Up until now. Sals may be known for pizza . However it's a Full service Italian sit down. Large or Small groups. They also have call in Togo and host a full bar with TV's for sports. The place is loud. The food & bar on point. Service prompt but only fair. Again very busy. Pizza by the slice is huge for me. But there NYC thin crust is legit as is Thick Crust ( Detroit) is bomb. Fresh Hot Balanced. Crust on both perfect.
Man, been coming here for years. On our recent visit, we ordered ahead and took it home. 5 minute drive from home. Medium pepperoni lovers pizza, side caesar salad, pappardelle pasta and an anti pasta side salad. Man. Disappointed in the pizza, mostly in the lack of toppings, and the sauce honestly tasted eh. The wife's pasta was a clump of noodles with sauce. Salads were tiny compared to being in the restaurant. Granted, this was also a birthday dinner. Ugh. We've ordered to go before, and have loved the food. We will give it another try, but probably not for a bit.
Earlier this month, my sister from NY was telling ME about a pizza place here that she heard great things about. A thing about New Yorkers - they love to tell you about real NY food. I know this because I, too, am a former NYer (haha!) But she had a friend of a friend who worked here, and it was like seeing two old friends meet again. The camaraderie of NYers who are OUT of NY is always so fun to see. So aside from the fabulous service, we received.. the pizza was INCREDIBLE and literally a taste of home. We ordered a Grandma pizza, White pizza, and Margherita pizza for all my visiting family to share and eat. I definitely will be back now that I know about it and the quality is outstanding. Don't ask me what I'm thinking about because my answer will be Sal's Gilbert Pizza's Tiramisu Martini for a WHILE. We got here around 7:30 on a Tuesday night and there was a decent wait, so we opted for seats at the bar. While it was busy, it wasn't loud so we could still enjoy company. They even had tvs so we watched parts of the basketball game that was on. Every night they do a different special (besides Monday when they're closed) which we didn't end up ordering, but was nice to see. Our bartender was super friendly and was kindly answering all of my questions about the menu. I started with the tiramisu martini and let me tell you, I will not stop telling my friends about this drink. It was sweet but light and was an amazing treat before having dinner. My boyfriend kept stealing it from me to drink because he loved it too. We ordered half baked ziti and half spaghetti and meatballs pizza which was delicious. I think the textures were so fun and the pastas made the pizza more rich and filling. I loved the crispy thin crust - it reminded me of New York pizza. I think being able to do half and half is so nice and lets everyone get to try something they want. We ended up getting a large and took 4 pieces home. If you haven't tried this pizza spot yet - add it to the top of your list. You will LOVE it! read more
We'd been wanting to try Sal's for quite some time but we live on the west side of the valley. Finally had the opportunity to visit Sal's in Gilbert and well, I guess we're gonna be coming around this side more often! Everything was so good! There was a wait on a Saturday by 4pm but it wasn't too bad. Our service was attentive & friendly, the pizza was just exactly what we've been wanting EAST COAST STYLE! Garlic rolls omg! Didn't have room for dessert sadly but thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We took a salad home and a slice of their thick square style pizza for friends and they loved it! Sal's we'll be back!! I woke up this morning craving pizza, but not just any pizza would do. I looked on the map and had never tried Sal's, but heard people raving about it. Dragged my hubby along for the ride at lunch and ordered an upside down slice, a Margherita slice, and Caesar salad slice. All were $15. The Caesar salad slice was giant, nice and cold, chicken was season and charred perfectly. The crust was like a cheese crouton and paired perfectly with the salad. We loved every single slice. The crust is perfect, the sauce is delicious, and we kept raving about our unexpected lunch. In this economy, it's hard to find food that's this delicious and still affordable. We really enjoyed it and will absolutely back to try other slices and pasta. read more

It had been so long since I had food from here and I had never dined in.. it was worth it! I tried their Tiramisu Martini (divine) and their Espresso Martini (yum). My boyfriend and I split a wedge blue cheese salad, supreme pizza and the Vodka Penne Pasta. The waiter was super cool and gave us his suggestions and had a fun banter about him. The salad was crisp and the blue cheese dressing was delicious and not too overpowering for blue cheese, just right. The pizza was so good.. toppings jut the right ratio and crust was delicious. The only hiccup was we never got the pasta and we were kinda watching thinking it would come out at any minute but did not. The server was so apologetic and it came out maybe 5 minutes after that. The vodka sauce was amazing. We know it gets busy and things get missed and we never complain. We asked for take out boxes and when he brought them he brought some cannolis to take home for the mix up with the pasta. That right there is customer service beyond the call. The staff, the restaurant in my opinion is top notch. I can't wait to try some other dishes there! The cannolis were amazing by the way! read more

While this place is tucked away in the business park it's super popular and rightfully so. I've been here before and I have always loved the pizza here. Since I was in the area I had to drop in it was Friday around 3pm and the place was already slammed with the sweet senior citizens having their dinner together on a Friday night. I didn't mind the wait for the love that they put into making the food it's well worth it. I'm thinking though on my next trip here it's going to be for some pasta. The staff is really friendly and they have a great to go system going on for them so if you want to just walk in and pick up your order. my first visit here was for a birthday dinner for 8. We were seated at immediately and were immediately taken care of with waters and orders of apps and salads to start. Our server was amazing with all of us despite understanding it can get little chaotic with a bigger group. She was so cool and got our orders right and out in a very timely manner. For apps we got an antipasto, rice ball, and caesar salad and pizzas we got: ziti pie, a grandma pie, a regular cheese pie, and a sausage topped pie. It was all good but my favorite was the grandma--man that fresh basil hit the spot on top of the well-seasoned sauce. The other standout was the cheese pie (I know basic) but it reminded so much of a real NY slice! I've already been back since the birthday dinner and 1. The pizza was delicious again AND 2. it reminded me that I had to give this spot a shout out! read more

Very good pizza. Ingredients seen to be fresh. Forgot to ask if they grate their own Parmesan. I did have an issue with clean dishes. Both my fork and my cup had debris that was not removed by their dishwasher. They may want to look at that. But it's really good pizza. read more

If you want anything that resembles New York style pizza there is no other place to go than Sal's. Finding any authentic style New York pizza and pasta is rare out here in the desert, but we are so glad to have Sal's as our regular pizza spot for more than 8 years! I love their bruschetta and the garlic knots are BOMB! We usually get a pepperoni and pineapple pizza but we love their bruschetta baked ziti pizza as well! Their staff is so friendly and we love being able to din in, sit at the bar or pick up to go! read more

We attempted to come here last week without a reservation. There was such a long way that we we gave up after 50 minutes with still three parties ahead of us. This time we made a reservation and got seated immediately. They actually put little reservation placards so you know they're holding the table for you. They take limited reservations by phone. Service is very friendly. They're very busy because this place is seriously crowded, but we got everything in a timely manner. They have a lot of takeout orders and when you walk in there is a counter immediately in front to pick up pizza. You can buy pizza by the slice and you can see the pizza in the case. Next to the pizza case on the other side of the register is a case for pastries. They look delicious! There are two dining rooms. Off to one side there are booths and a couple of tables and a bar. You can sit at the bar and order food, and every seat was taken with people doing just that. We ordered a beer and a sangria, a large Caesar salad to share, and a meat lovers pizza. All were delicious! The dressing on the Caesar salad was perfect. The pizza had a lot of toppings and you got a delicious topping on each and every bite of pizza. The sausage was especially good. We will definitely be back here to try some of the other items on a menu - - there are lots of pastas and sandwiches and calzones. If they are all as good as the pizza, then we can't go wrong. We came here for a birthday dinner celebration, & there were about 16 in our group. Large split dining area makes it a great spot to have a big party dine together. Upon entry we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff & they have a big display case full of Italian dessert goodies such as cannolis & cheesecake. Our server was so kind & patient with all of us, as some had never been here & questions about the menu. It can get a little chaotic with such a large group, but she managed so well. We ordered several appetizers & 5 different pizzas and our food came out much quicker than expected. The place was packed and I was amazed at how they kept everything in order & managed to get food out in a very timely manner. I didn't get to try all the all the pizzas sadly. Most of the pizzas were pretty dang greasy, which of course we expect, but this was a bit extra. The "White" pizza looked amazing- loaded with 3 different cheeses and olive oil, I really wish I got to try this one. My favorite was the Hawaiian. A classic ham & pineapple and the garlic knots were delicious as well. For dessert, we brought our own cake for the birthday girl and our sever was kind enough to bring it out. Overall really great experience! They even offer happy hour & have daily specials. Can't wait to come back and try some of their pastas and desserts. read more

When you call for a pick up, they tell you how long it will take. You shouldn't arrive earlier than their expected time because the order will not be ready. I had went early before and waited for my order to be done. Their pizza tasted good. It is what you would expect from a pizza place. I like that their crust is thin. However, it is not crispy. The pizza does taste fresh. It seems that their Tempe location is closed down. Thank goodness they didn't burn the bottom of the pizza. It was a little close though. I don't like the crust to be burnt. I can't really taste the basil. read more
My husband and I were craving white pizza. I had heard good things about Sal's in Gilbert. We ordered ahead of time on a Thursday night. I've heard that this place can get pretty busy. The wait time quoted was about 45 minutes and was pretty accurate. We ordered the white pizza. We felt that the crust was just a little dry and we're really craving more of a ricotta and garlic flavor. Next time we go, we are going to try the traditional red sauce pizza. The staff were very friendly and accommodating when I asked for some extra ranch. Love the New York style old-school Italian ambience. read more
Sal's is one of my go to pizza places. I have been coming here frequently since I discovered it. The service is always fantastic. I have not had the pleasure of dining in as of yet, but that is happening soon. I have only picked up or had the food delivered via Uber Eats. My latest order was a calzone with pepperoni, fettuccine pasta with garlic and oil, garlic knots with mozarella on top, and the mini canolis dipped in chocolate. The calzones are huge and delicious. The pasta was great considering how simple the ingredients are. The garlic knots are fantastic, highly recommend getting the cheese added on top at an extra charge. Canolis are consistently good, the cream used to fill them is so scrumptious. Some other notable menu items that are very much worth trying: caprese salad, wings, grandma pizza. Give them a shot next time your craving pizza/italian food! read more

Yeap... the power of TV and marketing has proved to be successful with us... that's because we were watching Diners Drive-ins and Dives (one of favorite shows as it promotes businesses throughout the country)... so after leaving a Volleyball Tournament, Pizza was suggested and guess what was on the way home. I've had their pizzas before as part of private/home event and knew I needed to come in and get it while it's "hot & fresh"... The show hyped up several pizzas and the 2 that stood out to us were the Chicken Marsala & Bake Ziti Pizzas... So we got 1 each along with a Large Greek Salad and of course a few cocktails. I'm for sure coming back as I think we had high expectations off the media hype... The pizza's were "OK" but didn't really seem that standout like it was made on TV. Felt like I was having "ok" pasta on bread!. Next time I'm coming in for some Italian food & probably a "not so over the top" pizza. I'll probably stick to a classic type Pizza (NY state of mind) read more

This is a family owned business. Whenever we come here we are so pleased with the friendly service. It is usually busy and they do a pretty good job keeping everything clean and moving. After being seated (prepare for a wait on weekends) the food and drink delivery is fairly quick. Our usual order is a Drunken Grandpa Pizza-bonus points for that name- (Square thin crust with fresh mozzarella, pink sauce & fresh basil) and two small salads. They also have some solid and very reasonable wine selections. I have also tried their pasta and it is good. The prices are fair for the quality of food, definitely ask about their daily specials, they seem to be stellar. read more

The food wasn't very good. We ordered the Taco pizza. There used to be a Happy Joes Pizza down the street. They could have taught Sal's how to make a real taco pizza. Even Casey's Gas Station in the Midwest have a bomb Taco pizza. Service wasn't much better. Busser was super busy and working hard. Everyone else there was zero acknowledgement as we came in. Ambiance was very dated and old school Italian dark colors. This restaurant had came through my feed being that it was featured on Triple D. read more

The Yelp website indicates that you take reservations, however I have been coming here for many years and that has not been the case. Can you clarify whether or not you take reservations?
Thank you for reaching out. Yes we do accept reservations. We do take a limited amount, weekends do tend to fill quick. I suggest to call a week in advance for the weekend otherwise during the week you can try same day.

Yes, but only whatever is Available at the time.
Can you buy Sal's hot wing sauce by the bottle? It's amazing.
No, unfortunately you cannot.
Are there any vegan options?
Yes we do. We have pasta that can be made with garlic and oil with sautéed broccoli or marinara. Salads. Sautéed spinach and broccoli. We can also make a cheese less pizza.
I looked at the menu and i didn't see the linguine with clam sauce , seafood marinara or mussels marinara... do they still offer them?
Yes. That’s part of out daily specials. We can make that anytime. Thank you
