It is now December 9th, 2010... (Yelp doesn't seem to change the date when reviews are edited.) This is an important update:
Joseph, you are a remarkable treasure, a highly principled and talented artist! I left your Salon today feeling I had received the most spectacular personal care.. my hair color (a double blonde foil) from October 29th, still looks luminous and lustrous.. and the precision perfect haircut you gave me today was one of the finest I have ever received in my 62 years!
You have indeed gained my total trust and greatest admiration!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
I hope you have a truly wonderful Christmas and a delightfully sunny holiday in Mexico! See you in January!

To preempt my earlier review (rather than just adding a PS, as I did before) I want to clearly and most emphatically state that "Joseph" personally took a great deal of time, effort, talent, and professionalism today in correcting the problem described below. He is a man of great integrity and compassion! He took what had been a nightmare and turned it into a work of art! The man is a genius! So far he has only been able to correct the color, which is now luminous.. it will take a few months for my hair to grow out enough to correct the cut, but I left the salon elated and very pleased with the extremely well done (and very natural looking) full foil I received from Joseph. I am a natural blonde and once again have the luster restored to my lovely blonde hair.
Thank you Joseph!!! ... and Happy 25th Anniversary!!!

I wrote to Salon Joseph in late June after my last haircut with Anna. It was cut just right at the back, but was too long on the sides and too short in front. I never received a response.
3 months later it had finally grown out enough to be cut correctly, and I scheduled a haircut with Travis who Anna had said does the best bobs in the salon (mine is a reverse-bob, shorter at the back and gradually getting much longer at front, with blunt ends, which makes my fine hair look even fuller.)
I was in on October 1st for a haircut and a full foil with Travis. It is probably the worst haircut I have ever gotten anywhere in my life (and was NOT a full foil, as ordered and and was NOT the correct color!)
After talking about my use of Nioxin 4 (for visibly thinning hair) and the fact that it has really helped, since my cancer, he "thinned" my hair!!! I have always gotten a slight "undercut" that made my hair gently turn under, making it feel even thicker with blunt ends.. he gave me a layered "boy's-type" haircut thinning from the top as he went down. I'm 62 years old and got a punky 22 year old's haircut.. all different lengths, almost shaggy. I came home and wet it down, used mousse, dried it, sprayed it, trying to fluff it up.. but it's flat and thin and horrid and WAY too short!! It will take several months for it to grow out enough to get the kind of cut I asked for and expected. (angry snarl) I am retired and disabled and have to save for months to make an appointment at Salon Joseph. Aside from being very expensive, Travis was cocky and didn't adhere to anything I told him to do. Getting a haircut from someone new is always stressful, even if it turns out well.. when it's a total DISASTER, it takes months to recover from! I am furious.. embarrassed to go out, and the daily upkeep has tripled! I took a jacuzzi bath last night, washed, dried, and styled my hair, and thought it might not be as awful as it seemed, but when I woke up today it was flat and sticking out in every direction!!!
I don't see how they can you keep an employee who so blatantly ignores the customers wishes?!
*******
PS... from 2 stars to 3, for now.
I have since received a very sincere apology from Joseph and a refund for the disastrous $145 horrid cut and foil (that darkened my blonde hair, rather than lightening it.) Joseph has offered to make it right, himself, for free. but it will be several months before it is grown out enough to cut again.
He was out of the country when this happened.. which might have been part of the problem. In the meantime, I am left with a terrible haircut that takes 3 times the effort to maintain, and even then I am embarrassed to go out. My top hairs which should go nearly to my shoulders are cut to the level of my cheeks! .. and that shaggy "look" is continued to an inch below my ears. SO far from what I requested, it is unbelievable!!!
But Joseph says he wants to make this right... so I will give him the opportunity, in a few months when my hair has grown out enough.
Since I am making amends, of a sort, Anna is an amazing person with a true gift for brightening ones life and acceptance of breast cancer.. she is a treasure!
Travis on the other hand seems misogynistic and and cocky beyond description!! read more
