Travis is awesome... for once, someone has given themselves a fun title that they deserve... Waxing Diva!! And I would even add Extraordinaire! He's quick and excellent at distraction... we were done before I knew it and I was having so much fun talking to him that I was almost sorry we were finished. The salon is beautiful, all of the spaces are comfortable and super-clean, and there's even free parking in a little lot next door. He didn't miss any hairs and used products that did not leave me gross and sticky. His half-leg is generous and I feel pretty enough to wear short skirts again... and will go back in five weeks to be ready for shorts weather. The salon's prices are totally reasonable and they were on time for our services... I appreciate that. This is also one of the few places that offers a full menu of waxing services for men. Every once in a while I like to do a full grow out of my brows because I'm paranoid about them not growing back after all the waxing, tweezing, and general abuse I put them through for the sake of beauty. Also, I just might be a little lazy about upkeep. But the reason for waiting so long this time around is legit: I'm still shopping around to find "my place". So after reading a pile of reviews and checking websites for several salons, I used the Salon Dewi website to request an appointment. 1. If you book online, they will email vs call. Because most places call, it didn't occur to me to check my email. Sooo, check your email. =P 2. I requested Nov 3 or 4th around 11:30am. I got an email from fabulous Lee at 10:35am on the 3rd for either an 11am or noon appointment that same day. Good thing I live on the hill. Directions: It is an Official Declaration with my friends that I am not to be in charge of Directions or Math Calculations as they pertain to any group activity or discussion. So let me tell you that Salon Dewi shares the 60 Minute Photo parking lot, and you can see *that* sign a block away on 14th. Lee did not make fun of me for not understanding cardinal direction when he explained I needed to go north after making a wrong turn. Bonus points for Lee. The shop is super fabulous. A good interior designer or decorator can make magic with little space and understands the power of accessories and organizational placement. The waiting area is sumptuous and comfortable, warm and inviting without being cluttered or feeling crowded. Lee offered me tea, and Marie was with me so promptly I didn't even get to sip it. Cool, calming, collected, friendly, and professional - that's Marie. She seemed amused and unfazed by my banter: Marie: So you're here for a Brazilian? Me: Oh God, no! Um, eyebrow wax. Maybe save the cooch for another time. Quick, easy, relatively painless, and sure. Marie's demeanor made me feel completely at ease with her judgement and style for my brows. I wanted something clean, neat, professional, not too thin or super trendy and she delivered. The room was very clean and calm, no chemical smells or dust. Price was reasonable given the quality of staff, shop, and service. Like most people, even on a budget I don't mind paying a little more for high quality and stellar service. My boyfriend and I went in to Salon Dewi for a facial and one hour massage. The treatments were acceptable and the ambiance, "meh." But low marks come from the unprofessional general manager and receptionist. I finished my treatments before my boyfriend so I paid the bill and tip and walked home. I asked the receptionist to inform my boyfriend that I had already left the tip, explicitly. He came out later and was told that I had, "taken care of the treatments." So he asked about the tip and was not told it was already paid, so he went to the bank to take out cash for a tip. Why she accepted the additional tip, I don't know. When he came home he mentioned he also gave cash, I called the Salon and spoke with the general manager... I didn't even want a refund or anything, but just to figure out what happened. The manager was short with me but said he would check with the receptionist and call me back. TWO DAYS latter he calls back and says, "(receptionists name) said that your boyfriend knew you already tipped and wanted to tip more." PFFFT! He would never do that! I told him politely that I don't think that was the case, but he just said, "well, this is what I know." I got frustrated and ended the call. So, the conclusion is: OK treatments (massage/facial), but the salon is run unprofessionally. I'm never going back. read more

Eri the esthetician was excellent!!!! Bobi the massage therapist left me with bruises and really focused on my glutes- I thought I was being communicative about my comfort level- but he seemed to do his own thing. I ended up just feeling awkward. At a party later that week a friend and I were randomly chatting about massages and wouldn't you know - Bobi's name came up - in that she too felt awkward and uncomfortable during the massage and that he focused alot on her chest area. I dunno, but this really struck me as not right. I wished I would have been way more vocal when in the salon. I called the salon and spoke with Travis the owner about my experience (and that my friend had a negative experience too). He thanked me for calling but told me he was surprised to hear such a compliant. I hope he took it serious. It didn't seem like he did. Based on the good reviews it sounds like alot of people like this place. But due to the unresolved situation with the massage I won't be going back to salon dewi even though the waxer did a great job. Also, I had a different friend with me -during my salon dewi visit - He got a massage from another (male) massage therapist- he said his massage experience was great. read more

GREAT customer service while scheduling, arriving and checking out. Same day appointment to boot! LOVE the selection of men's undies and picked up a fun pair for my sweetie. Massage was awesome. Donovan knows what he's doing and is great for deep work. The LMP's LMP. He did a great job addressing my areas of concern in an effective, creative, deep yet gentle way. After solicting the advise of the wonderful women on Yelp, I decided on Dewi upon Michelle's advise. First off...OW! Underarm waxes hurt SOO much. More than the Bikini I got!!! But, the woman that worked on me (I lost her card and forgot her name! ack!! I remember the face though..so I am covered...sorry everyone else), was fabulous. I had a body scrub, massage and facial at Salon Dewi for my birthday last year. It's definitely not the fanciest spa I've visited, but it's not too shabby either. I think the prices are pretty reasonable considering this is fancy-pants-Seattle. They often have packages that will save you a few bucks. When you make your appointment, make sure to have them set you up to use the Infrared Sauna. It's a little sauna just for one person with the super-bright infrared lights that will pull you out of your Seattle-winter-induced depression. I am on their mailing list now, and every once in a while, they invite me to use their sauna for free! read more

After a less-than-satisfying wax elsewhere in the area (the wax seemed really shallow, as though the hair was broken rather than actually extracted causing me a TON of discomfort and irritation, as well as quick growth), I visited Salon Dewi in a bit of a last minute rush. I could NOT be happier with Eri and my wax! Even though his new location takes a little extra time to get to from where I'm going, it's worth it. (And there's free parking, which is nice.) I'm gettin' hitched this spring which has caused me to do things I never thought I would. Y'know, buy a white dress, pay someone to style my hair and face, and now get a monthly facial to get my skin looking less grody. I have combination skin which tends to get dry during the winter, with frequent minor breakouts like a dang teenager. I've had one facial ever a long time ago, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Travis was a really nice, laid-back guy who walked me through what he was doing and put me at ease. The business is downstairs below the Annex Theater off 11th Ave and is cozy and inviting. It's got a hippy vibe in a good way, and there was a cute lil' doggo hanging out while I was there. I can't remember all the good stuff Travis shmeared on my face but I left feeling 100% less Saharan, and my skin showed improvement over the next week. Nothing irritated my sensitive skin, and I miiiight have fallen asleep while the masks were setting (you get all cocooned under some covers). The pricing is very reasonable, and there was no product sales pushing whatsoever. I had a good experience at Salon Dewi and will be visiting monthly going forward. read more

I love this place. I was a junkie at one point. I live across the street and I had every type of service they offer done to me. I especially love Kelly & Alicia. But I now have such sensitive skin that facials irritate my skin. My dermatologist recommended I stop these treatments. I also decided to get laser hair removal i/o my monthly waxing sessions. I really love Salon Dewi. I've had a variety of services there, from massages to facials. The atmosphere is really nice, sort of exotic, and they seem to emphasize natural products. Customer service both at the front desk and during my service has always been good-to-exceptional, depending on who is there. There is at least one person there who has the gentlest touch I've ever had while waxing my eyebrows and lip, though I unfortunately can't remember her name. Sorry guys, you may have to experiment! I do recommend showering if at all possible after a massage. The massages are great, and your skin feels amazing afterwards, but I often have weirdly spiky hair from the oil. I've had a slightly weird experience with Bobi, and it sounds like other reviewers agree. However, I didn't get a "bad touch" from him, but he did beseech me to come back in this weirdly puppy-dog, desperate manner. That's ok, the other masseuses are not creepy and are totally amazing. The facials are a lot of pampering! Highly recommend. You'll feel wonderfully soft and refreshed from forehead to fingertips! It's hard to walk away without a new pair of panties, so be warned...It's pretty much at the top of Capitol Hill, right next to Cascina Spinasse - I recommend getting dinner there after :) read more

i've gone to salon dewi a few times over the past few years for waxing (brows, legs) and once for a pedicure that was given to me as a gift. i found them comfortable. they have kind of an aveda-esque feel (and i mean that in a good way... i like aveda). they give you free tea when you come in. they also sell a variety of hair care and beauty products as well as lingerie. although i liked them in general, i wasn't moved to write a review until after this past weekend when i had a particularly good experience. last week they sent out an email inviting everyone to sign up for a free sauna appointment this weekend. "burn 600 calories in 30 minutes!" i dunno about all that, but being in something warm and dry vs. cold and wet sounded appealing. it also has a uv light which supposedly combats seasonal affective disorder (but it's not a tanning bed. just bright light.) i can't remember ever having spent time in a sauna. on entry they hand you sandals, a bottle of water and a robe. you change and then go into a cube only big enough for one person. it resembled a portapotty covered in wood. the door announced 147 degrees. sweat poured off my body at a rate that eclipsed even burningman. afterward you take a shower with their fancy hair products and honey body wash and they give you homemade creamy lotion and more warm tea. it was great. it even made my ankle feel better. i'm not very shy about my body, so i don't require a private sauna vs. a shared one. but for women who don't feel comfortable being naked in a roomful of people, this is a relaxing way to have a private sauna experience. i don't know whether the light truly affects S.A.D., but i definitely felt happier and more calm afterward. i inquired what the normal price for the sauna is and it's $15. read more

My husband gave me a spa treatment from Salon Dewi (after doing some research on the web). Everyone loves this place; however, I did not. When I showed up for my appointment, I was unpleasantly surprised by the fact that my masseuse was a man. No one informed of this this fact, nor was I given a choice (which is common to offer). I am uncomfortable with a strange man touching my body (yeah, weird!). Additionally, he was unfriendly and silent. He did not explain what he doing while applying a wrap treatment. I would get cold rubs, then hot, and then brushed with a coarse brush, with no indication of what was coming. And he gave a terrible massage. I will never never never go back. read more
