I've been going to Caitlin for color for 12+ years and love her! She always manages to make my hair look great (i.e. not brassy) even when I try to stretch time between appointments. When I moved away for a few years, I still came in to see Caitlin on visits back to Chicago. She is super flexible and when I occasionally am running late, she still manages to squeeze me into her jam-packed schedule. The check-in/check-out process is seamless and they only use high-end products like Kerastase and Shu Uemura. Other than not taking Amex, there are no drawbacks to this salon. read more

I am so overdue in writing this review I cannot believe. This review is reflective of about 7 or 8 trips here and never once leaving disappointed. I absolutely love this place. Fantastic hair comes from Salon Buzz Gold Coast. I specifically work with Allison for my color and Brooke for my cut. The combo of these two ladies is PHENOMENAL and dangerous - phenomenal for my changing aesthetic and dangerous because I will drop several hundred bucks every 8 weeks for these ladies. And honestly, it's worth it worth it worth it. Every time I leave here with a fresh 'do my man follows me around the house for the rest of the day talking about "my beauty". This is the place I would recommend if you want your hair to undergo a large change, if you want to look fresh before a date or special occasion, or even if you have no idea what you want to do! I went here on a recommendation of a friend on a weekend day, with no appointment to have my hair dyed. I had previously had my dark hair dyed (read: fried) blonde and wanted to go back dark so my hair was shiny and in good condition. I walked in and the receptionist went and got Ava, who took a look at my hair and spoke with me about what I was looking to have done. She took out a book with photos of celebrities and showed me some colors she recommended, then said for the condition my hair was in she wanted to tone it a few times to get it all a neutral color and then dye it all over. We settled on a color and she went to work, three toners then one all over plus a conditioning treatment. It turned out fabulous and my hair is so shiny and glossy, and she even stayed late to finish my dye job. definitely switching over! read more

I was sooo tired of my dull, flat, lifeless hair. So I asked around the 4 Seasons Hotel and received a recommendation for Reva. All I can say is wow! She is fantastic! I told her what kind of problems I was having and she told me what she would change with the cut. I then received the best cut I have ever had. Then she spent at least 25 minutes on a blow out. But the best part was she told me exactly what she was doing and taught me how to do it. She gave me tons of tips and I ended up with more volume than I thought was possible. The rest of the day I felt like people were looking at me and thinking "wow, she has great hair! I am probably wrong about that, but that is how I felt. Then the next day I tried to replicate the look, and I came quite close -thanks to all of the teaching she did. She also used some great products on me, but did not pressure me to buy them. She really does do an amazing job. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! She listens to what I want, understands and then works her magic...while also telling me her suggestions on what we should do. I moved to Chicago over 5 years ago from NYC and have tried NUMEROUS upscale salons around the city. I was willing to shell out a lot of money and I have NEVER been satisfied with my cut or color at any of these salons. Thus...I found myself going back to NYC any chance I could get to get my hair done! Well...with two young kids, it got tougher to get home to NYC to get my hair done! I was desperate to find a place in Chicago that I wanted to return to! So...I actually used Yelp and found Salon Buzz! It got so many good reviews, I thought I should give it try! Well...I went there yesterday and felt I was so thrilled with my cut and color that I had to actually write about it! First off, everyone at the salon is extremely friendly and the customer service is excellent! I was asked MANY times by many people if I needed anything (a magazine, coffee, ect). Everyone seem to be happy working there and there was absolutely ZERO attitude! Scott did my color...he did an awesome job and listened carefully to what I asked for! Also...he was very friendly and attentive! Andy did my cut! She has such a pleasant personality and she spent so much time listening to what I wanted in my cut. She executed the cut perfectly and I cannot believe how amazing the blowout was! I have never reviewed anything on Yelp, but, I felt that I had such a great experience at Salon Buzz that it was worth my time letting others know about it! I have been going to Salon Buzz for years and have had the most amazing hair cuts from Tim and color from Katie. Tim has worked with me through long hair, short hair and everything in between. The cuts are AMAZING and sophisticated. They have lovely movement and grow out so well that there is no need to ensure I am back every 6 - 8 weeks for trims. I can't say enough good things about Tim's eye for detail, face shapes, and combining what I want with what will work for my hair type. I'm not one for writing reviews, because I think everyone should try everything out on their own regardless of what people on a website say. However, I feel so strongly about Reva, at Salon Buzz Gold Coast, that I feel like I would be doing an injustice to women in Chicago if I didn't tell everyone about her! I moved to Chicago a little over two years ago, and had not had a hair cut anywhere else beside my salon where I grew up and lived most of my life. You know women, we don't trust just anyone with our hair! I had heard about Salon Buzz, but was afraid I couldn't afford it. I called on a Friday, asking if there was ANY way possible for a Saturday morning appointment, and if so, with who, and how much. They easily got me with an appointment with Reva for 11am the next morning, and a price I could easily fork up. Scared out of my mind, I went... telling myself "It's just a hair cut, it will grow back." Long story short, I fell in love with Reva, then I fell in love with Salon Buzz, and most importantly, I fell in love with my hair cut! She always listens to what I want, never what is trendy, or "could work" for me, however, she does always give great recommendations and is never offended if I turn them down. She also gives great advice about the hair products sold at Salon Buzz. She never makes me feel like I have to purchase them, but always teaches me about them anyway just in case. I recently took the plunge and bought Kerastase shampoo and conditioner. I was so nervous to spend over $80 on shampoo and conditioner, but she reminded me I could return it at any time if I was unhappy. She walked me through a 20 min explanation of how to use the products correctly, and told me to follow up with her after a couple of days to let her know if I liked them. Well, Reva, you were right. I couldn't be happier! Up until just recently, I was a personal shopper for a well-known department store on Michigan Avenue. About 75% of my clients were from out of town, and usually in town for a special occasion. They would always ask me for recommendations to get their hair done, and I would jump to tell them about Reva. I even had clients send me thank you notes after our shopping trip and include how much they liked Salon Buzz and especially Reva. Needless to say, go there. I couldn't be happier with the salon or Reva. It has made me feel more at home here in Chicago. read more

My first ever salon experience was at Salon Buzz. My hairdresser of choice was Jerry Serpe because of his extensive experience with hair spanning over 35 years. I chose him rather than going to an old school barber because I had nothing but the highest confidence in his abilities to style my hair. I fell in love with the prohibition hairstyle from the Boardwalk Empire series and showed Jerry a mediocre picture of one of the character's hair off of my iPhone. He looked at the picture once and then started to cut my hair. After over an hour of careful cuts and hair dryer blows my hair went from a raggedy mess to perfection. If I went to a barbershop it would have been a rushed 15-minute haircut. Throughout the whole haircut it felt like I was talking to my best friend, he is friendly, funny, and I have never met anyone more passionate about hair. When he was done cutting my hair he even took the time to trim my beard! Then he took more than a generous amount of time to explain to me which hair products to use for certain looks and even gave me sample of a product that I will certainly be back to purchase more of. I left Jerry's chair feeling like I was on the set of Boardwalk Empire. I have received an abundance of compliments since then, mostly from strangers! I will definitely be returning to see Jerry again because of the outstanding effort and time he put into my hair. The price was absolutely worth it, especially because I do not know how you put a monetary value on such experience. I cannot express enough gratitude for the way Jerry styled my hair. I am a brand new customer at Salon Buzz. I saw the salon as a "walk by." I called and was able to get an appt for color and cut the next day. Allison was my colorist and she listened to what I wanted. I had brassey blonde dull hair and wanted it changed back to my original color which is brown with some autimnal shades. She colored it spot on. Erica washed my hair and gave me a great head massage. The chairs even massaged my back. Alex was my stylist and I showed her a picture of a cut that I wanted. I went back for a third time to have the color fixed by another colorist- Lauren. She is amazing! She knew exactly what I wanted and how to achieve it. I finally got the ombre color I wanted. I've been going to Erik my cut for almost 8 years, and Jeanine for color for about 4. I can't say enough wonderful things about them. Erik has tamed the beast that is my hair! I recently went to salon buzz a month ago for color correction with Katherine. She fixed my color and then I came back 3 weeks later for a fresh color. This is probably the best color I have ever had! It's so difficult to lift my hair color to blonde because it's so dark but Katherine did it! I've been going to Salon Buzz for several years now mainly because of Tim. He's amazing. I have very short hair so there's no hiding from a bad cut. Tim is creative, keeps it fresh with little changes here and there, and listens to what I want (even when I have no idea how to describe it). Most important, he's consistently good. Some places, you get a great cut once, and then the next two are just eh. I'm never disappointed with Tim. On top of the professionalism, he's just such a joy to talk with. I went to Salon Buzz as a friend recommended her stylist, Tim. I just wanted a little shaping of my long hair and we discussed adding a few layers to give it more movement and I specifically said "I want to keep the length". The cut seemed just okay at first but when I got home I had trouble styling it and realized that the "layers" actually turned out to be a bob cut in the front along my jawline back to behind my ear, then the long hair in the back!! My hair is fine and cutting half of it off doesn't work, in fact any hair type wouldn't work with that type of cut!! I went back for a "fix" and ended up having to get the rest of it cut off... so I lost the length that I specifically said I wanted to keep. Soooo unhappy!! On top of it, the short cut I ended up having to get looks like he simply put a bowl on my head... still no movement in the hair... the back of my hair is all one length. Hands down THE WORST experience and cut I've ever had. Supercuts would have been better... my mistake for believing that a nice salon would have staff knowing what they're doing!! Never again. Maybe my phrase "I want to keep the length" translated in stylist lingo to mean "hack it all off"-?? read more

My review is based on the front desk associates only. These girls are not helpful or nice and most of the time act as if you are putting them out to do the job they were hired to do. If you ask for help you get eye rolls and if you approach the desk and don't say anything they pretend they don't see you and then are annoyed to have to help you. I love going to get my hair colored because I love the gal who does my hair, but I hate having to check In for fear of being talked down to for just trying to check in. These gals never seem happy or approachable. They also don't know the products the salon sells. For example, as I was waiting to check in, a woman asked about a kerastasse product and the gal said "well it's probably this one that your looking for because it's selling a lot lately". These girls just don't seem interested in being there. It's too bad actually, because the people that actually do your hair, nails, etc. really know what they're doing and enjoy being there. read more

After my Friday afternoon flight got cancelled, along with the everyone else in Chicago, after a long week of conferencing and work, I decided that if I was stuck, I might as well try to get a much needed hair cut. The hotel recommended this salon and I stopped on while out walking on Friday. The receptionists at Salon Buzz greeted me with a smile and arranged to have a senior stylist come in early to accommodate me despite being very full on a Saturday morning. When I arrived a few minutes early they thanked me profusely for being punctual and gave me a robe to change into. The shampoo was relaxing, my stylist Jerry listened to my wishes, made some suggestions and got to work. He was friendly and professional and his suggestions were spot-on. It may be one of the best hair cuts I've ever gotten! Hair has bounce, shine and looks very flattering. I really felt that it was important to write this review. I have highlighted my hair blonde for 20 years. Been to all the best and not so best salons in major cities. Salon Buzz was recently referred to me by a friend and client after a hair disaster somewhere else. I have been 2 times now to a lovely woman named Kari(sp) a beautiful redhead. Not only did she do an amazing job on my fried, breaking hair, her ATTITUDE was so SWEET! She said , no worries!!! She is an utmost professional, and have found the staff there as well to be. They do not push products if you can not afford them!!! Also, this is a high end salon with a high end client list, but there is no attitude and they treated me beautifully!!! I feel so much better with my hair. Their prices are completely comparable to any other top salon, so do not worry. Would get pricey if you had multiple services of course. I am so impressed that they didn't push any extras on me. I will certainly take full advantage of their services as I can afford them though. Bottom line, do not be intimidated to go there!!! They value their customers and treat you with respect. Ask for Kari...her positive and kind attitude will make the experience a delight!!!! read more
