I love the menu here. I have been coming to Sakura since they first opened and it's my go to for sushi in the tri cities. The bar is not very high in the tri cities for sushi, anywhere close to the ocean with fresh fish is better, but for what you can expect in a desert town, Sakura has got it. The food is always great, the lunch specials are very God deals but the expensive rolls are where it's at. The Chinese food it very good as well. The service is ok. I've come here many times and as they started to recognize me the service got better. It's never been great and thats why they lose a star. Sometimes the ladies can be rude and they get upset if you can't understand them, but they have very thick accents which makes communication a little difficult. All in all, I'd recommend Sakura over the other sushi spots in town. read more

Haven't been in a while but I used to love it. I went in today for a to-go lunch order of Cashew Chicken. The guy at the register was really nice and my order came up super fast - too fast really! That probably should have been my sign. I got to my office only to find I didn't get a side, that was paid for as part of the lunch special, and I did not get cashew chicken. I got a weird colored, flavorless chicken dish with peanuts on it. I'm not sure if they really think peanuts are cashews or if they screwed up someone else's order so decided to pawn it off on me knowing I probably wouldn't drive all the way back. Although Ive only been there once, i had such a good experience! Got seated quickly, took our drink order right away. The food came out at a decent time, and the portion size was huge! This is a little bit of a weird restaurant, but it offers CHINESE and JAPANESE food. DO NOT GET THEIR WONTON SOUP; it is not done well. Their miso soup is also quite stingey. If going there, I actually would not recommend any of their soups. Although the restaurant owner is Taiwanese, the chef probably isn't, because they fail @ making good soups, but Taiwan has excellent soups... Sakura's portions are moderate, like most average sushi places. Sakura has more variety and I've never gotten a half-thawed piece of anything from Sakura yet, whereas I've had half-frozen things appear on my table at Subs n Jean. If you want basic rolls, things made with: salmon, yellowtail, tuna, and masago, then Subs n Jean is the way to go (just let it sit there awhile while you drink your miso; it'll thaw out eventually). If you want more variety, Sakura is good for that. Sakura is one of the only places in the tri cities area to get UNI (nom nom!). Sakura is were I go to get my sea urchin roe, my salmon roe, mackerel, etc. Their Red Dragon roll, their Rainbow roll, and their Black Pearl roll are all fairly good. Their "tartare" is weirdly, basically sushi; so I'm not sure why they named it that. Sakura's also one of few places I can find yummy well roasted duck...i.e., fat was roasted well out of the meat instead of left in. I think, this is one that you need to know what you're ordering, and you need to like more authentic Chinese food vs. takeout, to enjoy this place. If you like, they also have dou-miao (pea tips?), kong xin cai (it's a hollow veggie), egg plant with basil, etc. You can order some dishes that are traditional Chinese dishes but are not listed on the menu. Their hot pots are pretty good, and not sweet, too. So...just gotta know what you're doing I guess? If you are going to order young bamboo shoots, you gotta place that order at least 24 hours in advance. Otherwise they do not have enough time to soak them. Food is fine, the location's weird though...you can watch people exercising while you're trying to eat, and actually it made me feel guilty about all I ordered when I saw a bunch of people working off their calories. Heh. Restaurant itself is fine ambiance-wise other than the weird hyper people in the gym nextdoor. Costlier than Subs n Jeans, but very yummy and if you have a particular craving, they're more likely to be able to help you. :) They accept credit card and do take out orders. They do have a happy hour that is nice, but what on earth they are doing during that happy hour has changed now and then...It's weird. The service is fine; polite. read more

This is by far my favorite Sushi restaurant in the Tri-Cities. They have good food with excellent portions for the price. This is a nice family owned restaurant with quality service. At times you may get a server that does struggle with English but they very rarely make mistakes with orders and are quick to fix any mistakes that may have been made. I frequent here often and the staff notice and remember you, something that I enjoy. An interesting thing about this place is they bring you your food as soon as it is ready, they do not wait for some of the other dishes to be completed. This is amazing with the eggrolls which are always dripping with grease, and the freshly made soups. It is usually not long for the other dishes to be completed and brought to you. The Lunch Menu is a Must! The prices are just too good to pass up. You can easily fill up for around $20 for a couple! While I cannot say it is the best sushi I have ever had, it is the best you will find in the Tri-Cities and their Chinese food is great as well. Great tasting Asian food. I am usually not a fan of places that offer more than one type of Asian food, because I find that usually they end up being only mediocre in all of them. However, Sakura has been the one exception I have found. They have great tasting sushi and Chinese food. My only minor complaint is that the service seems to be inconsistent. And I'm not talking about the food, but the waiting service. One visit, the waitress gave us a free appetizer before our meal. She didn't ask us if we wanted it, she just gave it to us, so I assumed this was just what they do at Sakura. The few times I have been to Sakura after that first time, I never got another free appetizer. Also, I ordered Chinese food and my friend ordered 3 sushi rolls. The waitress brought her sushi rolls one at a time, instead of all at once while I had to wait for quite some time for my food still. Why didn't she just wait until everything was ready to bring at once? Very weird and I've never had another place do this before. Other than that though, I must say that I haven't been disapponted in the food yet. If not for the weird service, I would have given Sakura 5 stars. read more

Relatively speaking this was really good sushi. I had almost given up on buying sushi in Kennewick/Richland area after my experience with Sushi Ya. So glad I gave it one more chance! The fish was fresh and the ingredients that went into the roll were a good combination. The host was a little quirky but pleasant; actually fun to talk to. The waitress who seemed to want to share her annoyance with her job with those she waited on was the only complaint I had with Sakura. It takes a LOT for me to rate either a 1 or a 5. I ordered the Eel Roll and Tempura Shrimp Roll for the lunch special. I have to say it was the most disgusting sushi I have ever had. The tempura shrimp roll wasn't crunchy at all, and was pretty bland taste wise. The eel roll was just....gross and had a weird, sticky texture. Was it the worst Chinese food or sushi imaginable? No. But it was middling at best. Looks and tastes cheap and rubbery. I didn't personally eat any sushi but my husband did and wasn't impressed. This used to be our go to place for chinese and sushi. We probably ate here bi-monthly. Unfortunately the quality of of the chinese menu is gone down. I don't know if it's a new cook, different menu, or new supplier, but the last time we went it was close to inedible. We got our first rolls after waiting for quite a while. We considered cancelling our second roll, as it seemed like they had forgotten to even put the order in to begin with, and we ordered all the rolls at the same time. By the time we were ready to cancel the second one, the server let us know that the sushi chef was in the middle of making our final roll. The food itself tasted okay, but there was a very sad amount of fish on top of our rolls. If they aren't going to put an average amount of fish on top of the rolls, they should charge less for less product. read more

Food is average at best certainly nothing exceptional. General Tsoa's was mushy and the egg drop soup was overwhelmed by heavy chicken broth flavor. Service was poor. Had to ask for silverware. Waitress went off shift and new one acted unfriendly and put out. Ordered fried rice for a to go order and was charged an extra $1 and then got steamed white rice. Was up with an upset stomach during the night. I don't know about the sushi but we won't be rushing back to Sakura anytime soon. read more

First Visit: Sakura Asian Restaurant is located by Albertson's on Leslie and Gage Blvd in South Richland... next to Club 24. Inside there are high ceilings with cannister lighting, about eighteen tables with tile floors. Nice wall decor and a Sushi Bar that can seat four people. Both Chinese & Japanese preparations are offered. The serving portions are very large and look delicious. We came for the Japanese entrees and left not disappointed. Excellent food presentation and flavors were enjoyed with our Japenese Sapporo Beer. We will definitely be back to try the many items on their menu. ..... Next visit: I totally agree with Wino Dave....my husband and I had Shrimp with Garlic sauce, Happy Family, and Chicken with Szechuan Sauce.... all three dishes were very bland and tasted identical... the restaurant decor is nicely done... and they have excellent entree presentations.... you certainly get large portions with each order.......previously we have had various Japenese appetizers and it was very good.... Food was good and very fairly priced. My husband and I split the columbia boat which had a chef's choice of both sashimi and sushi. The fish was very fresh and good. My husband also got the Happy Family plate which had chicken, shrimp, scallops, beef sauteed in a delicious sauce with vegetables. I would have to say that i have tried a lot of the sushi places in the tri cities and this is one of the better sushis that i have had so far. I thought the eel itself was very good, but they did not use traditional eel sauce, which for me was a bummer with the unagi. Instead, I'm pretty sure they just put some soy sause over the fish. I got take out sushi for dinner. They were very patient and helpful with me because I couldn't decide which fish I wanted. I enjoy nigiri sushi; the specialty rolls at most sushi restaurants are so over sauced that I can't even taste the fish, which is the 95% why I eat sushi. So I got a simple salmon roll and several nigiri pieces. I could actually see whole pieces, not some mashed fish paste, inside the roll. The nigiri pieces had a good ratio of fish to rice. The fish was delicious and fresh, not fishy(in a bad, about to turn way) tasting or smelly. Thankfully I found this place because I was beginning to lose hope for good sushi in the TC! read more

It is difficult to find a good quality Japanese restaurant and unfortunately our lunch here today was disappointing. We had sushi and sashimi, miso soup. Sushi rice was old and cold. Tempura roll was terrible, worst I've ever experienced. Sashimi was acceptable but not great, and one piece had a bit of scale - first time I've ever had that happen in a Japanese restaurant. Miso soup was good. The service was very mediocre. We've been here before and thought it was good. We won't be returning after this lunch. read more

I have been going to Sakura for a while and always loved the food but, tonight I went in with my daughter and ordered two pork egg rolls, a shrimp tempura roll, and pad Tai with shrimp and to fu. The egg rolls were flash cooked quickly so the outside was hot crispy but the inside was cold. I told the waitresses and they brought me back new ones and they were better. Then they brought me a dish of low mein noodles with just to fu, not what I even ordered. What the heck!!!! I told the waitress and she apologized and said the cook screwed up. Shortly after she came back with a dish that had shrimp and to fu but, the noodles were thin like spaghetti. The pad tai I've always eaten has wider noodles. I asked the waitress and she said she didn't think those were paid tai noodles either. She then asked the cook and they assured the waitress those were the right noodles. I still didn't believe it. So I ate my first bite with shrimp and the shrimp was cold. What the hell!!! So I told the waitress again and she replied to another waitress can u ask them? I'm like why is she asking another waitress. She stated that if it comes back again the owner just thinks we messed up the order. So I'm like thinking in my head at this point well maybe you did or the cook is just terrible. Then to top it off I asked for some lime for the pad tai and they didn't even have that. Not very happy. The staff here is really friendly, but not sure if they know much English. The food tastes really good and like other places with tons of grease on their Chinese food. The sushi is fresh and tastes good, out of ten times only once was just o.k. The decorations are modern and really neat and clean. You don't really have to ask for help because they come over every so often or pass by regularly. It's a bit pricy but its worth it. We have a budget and this place fits in nicely. This place has some good food for decent prices, but quite frankly, their customer service absolutely sucks. I've been here a few times, and I think yesterday was my final time coming here. My wife and I ate lunch here yesterday, and not once during our entire time did anyone come to fill up our drinks. It was as if the server thought as soon as we got our food, we were no longer her problem. When we got our check, the server dropped off the check so fast, that we didn't even get a chance to ask her for more water. Then we sat at the table for quite some time waiting for our server to ask us if we needed a to-go box. We figured that would be our opportunity to not only get some boxes, but also get some re-fills for our water. Well, she never came by, so I got my debit card out and placed it in the card holder along with our bill. Again, the server came by and just snatched the card and our bill off the table so fast, that she didn't even give us a chance to say anything. It's as if she was trying to be elusive. Then, when she came by to return my card and receipt, I was ready for her, and asked her for a box and water. She gave us a box, but then forgot our water. We eventually had to go up to one of the waitresses and ask for water. Also, Sakura has the most bizarre way of serving food I have ever seen out of a restaurant. For example, if my wife and I both order something, and mine gets done before hers, they will just bring mine out. Of course, this gives the impression that her food is about to come out. But instead, her food might not be done for several minutes later. But of course, when I come to a restaurant with my wife, I'm not wanting to eat alone and eat my food in front of her while she has nothing. After all, that's why we came in together. But I also don't want to wait for my food to get all cold waiting for hers to come out. And this practice seems to be common with them. Another example is if I order something like Kung Po chicken with a sushi roll, they'll often bring out the sushi roll immediately (which is not meant to be an appetizer) and then it will be several minutes later that they bring out my Kung Po chicken. In other words, the staff at Sakura need to seriously learn customer service skills, and they need to learn to prepare their food so that when a couple orders food, they will receive them simultaneously. They also need to learn that when someone orders dinner, they want it all simultaneously, not brought out in stages as if they ordered a 2 or 3 course meal. Seriously, it a huge shame to give a place with good food such a bad review mainly over things that should be common sense. For a while I was willing to overlook the horrendous customer service, but their food isn't quite that good. read more

My girlfriend and I went here recently for lunch before work. Overall a really disappointing experience. The restaurant was nearly dead only 2 other tables with patrons. Our wait staff never checked on us after we ordered. My girlfriends soup came, and with no time to eat it (about 3 minutes) her general Tso's chicken was brought out. it takes about 3 min to plate food, I can't imagine the food was even remotely fresh. it had the steaming appearance of something fresh from the microwave oven. bearing all this it then took 10 minutes more before we had to flag a waitress down and ask where my sushi had swam off to, as I had not yet gotten it. The food once received was edible at best. The general Tso's chicken having lost its crispness after being microwaved tasted like bargain brand freezer isle food. The First experience I'd had here was pretty good; but, after this I will not be returning. read more

I love this place. Food is fresh, great to dine in or take out, I have never had a bad experience in the two years I have come here. People sometimes complain about Vicki on Yelp, but she is super friendly, really. if you give her a hard time, maybe not, but that's not her problem. It's yours. I love chinese food and will even eat at Panda Express, I am no snob, but the food here was not great. Blah, flavorless with congealed yuck everywhere, overcooked rice, service was OK but our waitress didn't speak a word of english so asking questions was out of the question (HAH).
