I've only been here once, but it was enough to make me want to come back. The sushi was super fresh, the teriyaki was just as good, and the service was great! I also found out the owner trained under a master sushi chef in Japan for 10 years, and you can definitely tell they care about the quality of the food. I'm originally from Seattle, where there's sushi on what feels like every corner, and Aki Sushi is honestly one of the best sushi and teriyaki spots I've had anywhere in Washington. We visited Aki Sushi expecting a simple, decent meal based on the high ratings, but unfortunately this was one of the worst dining experiences we've had in the Tri-Cities. Service was disorganized from the start. My wife requested water with no ice, but we were immediately brought a glass full of ice by a different server who wasn't even assigned to our table. From there, communication between staff appeared completely disjointed. The food was equally disappointing. I ordered spicy chicken teriyaki and received what was essentially plain grilled chicken with almost no sauce--nothing resembling a proper teriyaki dish. We also attempted to order nigiri, but were told the server needed to check with the chef. No one ever came back to follow up, and we were never given the opportunity to order sushi at all. Throughout the meal, no one checked on us, asked how the food was, or tried to correct anything. The only acknowledgment we received was a brief apology when they brought the check, mentioning we weren't able to try any fish--which was exactly what we had been waiting for. The overall experience felt inattentive and poorly managed, and the lack of follow-through made it especially frustrating. Based on this visit, we won't be returning. read more

Ruined a valentines date. We go about once a month for the past three years. For the past 2 times we've gone the service has gone right out the window. We order an appetizer drinks and 5 rolls and not the cheap ones. Usually spending over $100 every time. However we have waited upwards of an hour the last two times. Not getting check-ins. One of the two times we ordered our appetizer and showed up after the rolls showed up. However last night was the last straw. If you want better service try somewhere else. It's just getting worse. Even had a waitress come up after we ordered and asked us what we wanted to order. That was the moment I realized they never put our order in to begin with. read more

They don't take reservations here. Very small inside. The rolls are amazing! The gyoza was delicious too! We also ordered the Teriyaki Beef, not our favorite dish. The beef was very chewy like rubber and served on a bed of lettuce, which isn't good when you plate it in a Togo box. Back to the sushi, it was fresh, flavorful, delish! Wow, this place is definitely a hidden gem! If you're in the Tri-Cities area, you have to try the food here. The freshness of the fish is outstanding--everything was perfect. I wish I had taken a photo to share, but honestly, if you don't enjoy the food here, you probably just didn't know how to order. I ordered nigiri only, and they don't skimp on portions--the fish pieces are generous, and the fish-to-rice ratio is spot on. You need some sushi knowledge to order well, but I'm thoroughly impressed, especially for a small city. My friend ordered rolls, and wow--they were incredible! I highly recommend the roll with wagyu. I went with the salmon dinner which had 3 pieces of salmon sashimi, 5 salmon nigiri of various forms, one Alaska roll. Also miso soup. The miso soup was too salty for me. Now for the sushi it was so-so. The fish was fresh but the rice was not. There was no flavor, very bland. They also had some ponzu sauce on some of the nigiri which also was bland. Fortunately, the food was really good. Fish was fresh. Nice presentation and great menu variety. My only issue with my experience was that I felt "pushed" out the door. I arrived for dinner close to 7:30 and the restaurant closed at 8:30 (although it stated 9:00 on Yelp). They didn't seem terribly busy but my first order took a while to arrive. Then they completely forgot about my last order. I was sitting at the sushi bar when the chefs started putting everything away. When I asked about my order of Uni, it had gotten lost in the shuffle of hurrying to put everything away. The server brought my check before I was even finished eating and then came back and asked me to close out - also before I finished eating. My friend and I were stopping by on a roadtrip and tried to go to another restaurant, but the wait was over an hour so we found this spot on Yelp and decided to come here instead. When we arrived, we put ourselves on the waitlist and were seated within 10 minutes. The interior is really cute, and we got a table next to the window which was really nice. Their menu is quite lengthy and there were so many options to choose from! We decided to go with the magic roll, shaggy dog roll, chutoro nigiri (since they were out of otoro) and the yakisoba. The magic roll was definitely my favorite and I'd highly recommend getting that one. The rest was also good as well. Service was quite fast too which is always a plus.
