I don't recommend this place. TBH, very pricey, small proportion, and lacks flavor in some dishes. We tried avocado jhalmuri, it was literally so tiny. It was also missing chutney and some toppings that I have seen in other pictures. 2nd dish was the mixed grill, this was also a complete disappointment. You're charging $31 for just 6-8 medium sized meat. There's gotta be more come on!! Main course wasn't too bad. The spinach dumplings curry, naan and chicken biryani tasted ok, but again very small portions. The only thing I liked here was the mango mojito. A must try. Hands Down the Best buffet in Bay area you can have. The menu is diverse, and every dishes had so many layers of flavors to it both Nov-Veg & Veg and even the cocktails.Everything made with perfection and with so many flavors. We were there last weekend after a while. The food continues to be the best Indian food in the South Bay. Their holiday (MLK day) buffet had extensive variety for vegetarian and non-vegetarians. Moreover, their service was cherry on top. We were the only one in the outdoor seating area (not so warm day but we had a dog so we chose to be seated outside) but our server, Raymond, was attentive, checked on us multiple times and ensured we were well taken care of. They even made sure our dog was taken care of and were prompt with whatever we needed. Have been and will continue to be a repeat customer. read more

We had the weekend buffet. Considering its a buffet, I would say it's, well, ordinary. Nothing to write home about. The lemon fish masala was wet and felt like it could do with some more cooking. The chicken tandoori needed some more time in the tandoor. Ambiance: this was the worst part. We were a party in the back room, and there were two rather unpleasant issues. 1. There was insufficient air conditioning and/or ventilation, which everyone realized when we all went out of the back door for some group photos. Despite it being a hot afternoon, the air felt cooler and fresher outside. 2. The floor was filthy. After almost every step, my shoes felt as if they were getting stuck in something icky on the floor/carpet. Because the room is dimly lit, one cannot see what's on the floor, but if you have ever stepped into syrup and then walked on it, thats what it felt like. Icky and disgusting. They need to give that back room a thorough cleanup. I wouldnt go there again. read more

Better than Fremont, very good food! I got this restaurant from Check Please! Bay Area on KQED, proving that the service is good too. I had Lamb Biryani on Friday evening (my 21st birthday), and it's so good. The ambiance of this restaurant is perfect. Unlike the one in Fremont (the one I had on February 17, 2020), it is very unhealthy from the taste, service, and price of the restaurant. So expensive! But in mountain view, it's mixed and very cheap at all. I call it the best Sakoon restaurant in the Bay Area. Shoutout to Balkar Tamber for this! My friends and I came here on a Wednesday night for dinner. There was 8 of us for dinner. Luckily for us, they weren't too crowded when we arrived and we were able to be seated right away. Food: For the table, we ordered the samosas, vindaloo, chicken tikka marsala, saad with potatoes, butter chicken, and tandoori chicken. All of the food was delicious. We didn't order any rice with our dish, but instead got 10 orders of garlic naan. It was a lot of naan, but we ate it all. It was that good. My favorite dish was the saad with the potatoes. The samosas were also really good, and I'd definitely order that each time I am here. My friends also really enjoyed the butter chicken because it was very creamy. Service: Service was all right. It was nice that we were seated right away. Our server was also kind. Our secondary server who came to refill our waters and such came by often enough. It was only a little difficult at times to get our waiter's attention to order more naan and to receive our check. This place is a little more expensive than other Indian restaurants, but it is a bit fancier inside than a typical restaurant and it is in a very nice part in Mountain View. This review is specifically for the lunch buffet. We came in for a team lunch on a Tuesday and we had a reservation for 10. On arrival it looked like they had overbooked the restaurant and yet continued taking in walk in folks. Our table was not ready since they gave it away to some people who walked in and then they put together a hacky table out of all the 2 seater storage tables for us. The food in the buffet was not stocked, clearly the demand was more than the supply. The bread service to the table was slow, no drink menu was provided. We friends were celebrating one of our friend's birthday and she preferred Indian cuisine. We thought passage to India is open but they were only doing take outs. Hence a quick decision made us to go here. They close lunch time by 3 pm and we reached their 1:45 pm and got the food served, our drinks were awesome, our appetizer was good too. There's a red sauce they give with kebobs which are worth for a refill . We ended with a molten cake and it was past their closing time yet no one rushed us. We are frequent at your Fremont location and our experience both with food and service has been excellent but I am sorry to say we had very unpleasant experience at your Santa Clara location. We had ordered 4 drinks 2 were alcoholic and 2 were non-alcoholic. They messed up big time serving the drinks. My wife who is currently taking medications can't have alcoholic drinks. So when the drinks were served the server served the alcoholic drink to my wife. She had ordered a Mocktail hence was not able to make out with the taste if it had alcohol. I think the server should have named the drink before serving which was his fault. My wife was doing OK but late in the evening her blood pressure increased and we had to call emergency for help. The manager did come and apologize and I did leave a 15% tip but I thought it would have handled more professionally. read more

Great for team lunch! Had a lunch buffet with my Indian colleagues last Friday. The curry goat and fried fish are awesome - very flavorful and good combination with naan. The selection of foods are great - many meat as well as vegan options for people. My colleagues liked this place and I will definitely come back for the buffet when have a large group. read more

I entered the restaurant excited for good food but a bit skeptical about the service because of the slew of recent negative reviews. We came for an early dinner on Friday (around 6PM) and it was pretty empty, filling up half way through the meal. The service was excellent- attentive, respectful and we didn't have to wait too long for the food at all. Food was delicious with sizeable portions. The tandoori vegetables were hands down my favourite, highly recommend! Definitely an expensive meal but for the location and experience I would say it was worth it. read more

With so many other Indian buffets on Castro, Sakoon ain't even close playing with the big boys :/ The buffet is set up awkwardly-- there's one large table in the middle of the room that patrons aren't very good circling. There's another area in the back with plates and desserts. Foot traffic doesn't flow very well and people end up waiting at wrong ends of the buffet line or just cutting through. The food options are okay... There isn't a single dish that is memorable to me. Goat curry, paneer, butter chicken...all meh. I was momentarily excited to see that they had sweet & sour fish, but it was bland and unflavorful. Servers are difficult to flag down. I went for a Saturday buffet lunch at Sakoon with my 5-year-old, wife, and mother-in-law. We were at the restaurant by noon and we did not have a reservation. The host was quick to seat us. The restaurant had a quiet ambience but it was a bit dark inside for my liking. We're all vegetarians in the family and my 5-year-old is quite picky. Among vegetarian options, we found the lunch buffet menu had crispy spring rolls, vegeterian pakoras, a chaat section with aloo tikki, chole (chickpeas curry), spicy and sweet chutneys (sauces), daal (lentil soup), rice, naans, and an eggplant curry. Desserts included kheer and gulab jamun. My son also separately ordered a mango lassi. There was also a salad section with an assortment of vegetables consisting of cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce. Being a gluten-free eater, I could not eat the naans, the gulab jamun. But I devoured everything else. The aloo tikki was really great! It went well with their chutneys. The chaat section's chole was amazing! I had the daal, rice, and eggplant curry too. The kheer was a clear winner too in the desserts section. My 5-year-old was laser-focused on the spring rolls, polishing off about 10 of them over the course of an hour. My wife and mother-in-law, both of who can eat gluten-based foods, loved the naans and gulab jamun too. This restaurant is a great find and I look forward to returning to it. read more

Garlic naan is brought to your table. The food is epic, not so hot that's it's difficult to eat and not oversalted, but flavors come through. Good selection of vegetarian and meat dishes. Came here on a Sunday with Allen for a late lunch around 2 pm. We looked at other Indian places on Castro, and wanted to give Sakoon a try, since it seemed fancier, had more variety, but the same price. Pro tip 1: On weekends, it seems like they only have the AYCE buffet options. Luckily it's not too pricey- only $16/person. Pro tip 2: Not too sure if you can do reservations, but definitely allot some time to waiting during peak hours. We waited about 10 minutes? Mostly though, because they were understaffed... Pro tip 3: lunch buffet ends at 3 pm! I enjoyed: 1) masala fries 2) daal pancharatan, 3) tandoori chicken, 4) subz makhanwala, 5) cabbage bhujia and 6) chicken manchurian. 7) They had a catfish dish (really the bang for the buck here), but I wasn't feeling it with all then +1 The sides/salad bar were not bad! -1 Desserts were meh... +1 Naan was pretty good! Service was pretty good (minus the initial part of it), and the ambiance was nice (despite it being super dark). Would I come here again? Maybe. Nice variety of food in their buffet - enough choices. One side for vegetarians, one side for non-vegetarians, and the last section for cold items (like fruits, chutneys, etc) and desserts. We really liked the butter chicken, the tandori chicken (not dry), and the lamb dish. Very good quality and flavors (though we are not indian so take that with a grain of salt). They bring the naan bread to your table fresh. Staff was nice and accommodating even though the place was very crowded for lunch. Use the Yelp app to make a reservation. Btw, while the restaurant was crowded for the holidays, Castro street is still very quiet. Many empty storefronts. The street is closed down to traffic so park on the side streets or lots. read more

Great place to come for their lunch buffet! I would not recommend the a-la-carte menu because it is pricey (one dish is about the price of the lunch buffet) and the lunch buffet provides so much more value. The lunch buffet is great especially for those who don't eat Indian food often and don't know how to order and/or want to try everything! This is also a really convenient place to go for a team offsite because they take reservations and offer a lot of variety in terms of food options. On the weekends it can get busy, so make a reservation ahead of time or arrive close to opening if you don't want to sit at the bar, or if you're a large group. The interior is nicely-decorated and there's tons of seating that extends to the back of the building, and on the second floor. At the lunch buffet they have a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, appetizers, fresh fruit, dessert, and fresh naan. All of the dishes are well-executed, but not as spicy as other Indian food I've tried. The best thing I've tried there would have to the be the naan, it's so good! It comes out steaming-hot, buttery, and fluffy. This was some of the best naan I've had. Sometimes I come here just because I'm craving the fresh naan! Beautiful fiber optic light fixtures in the ceiling. Prices are up there for dinner, but it was Galentine's dinner with a friend. Ordered an appetizer, 2 dishes, bread basket and rice. All very good, lots of leftovers. Beautiful bathroom with intricate tiles. It is a long walk down a hallway to the bathrooms, but kind of fun. So I used to love this place and have been coming here at least once a month (even during covid for takeouts). However in my last few visits it's become evident that they're definitely not ready to reopen for the post covid crowd. They are seating more people then they can handle My recent visits were on weekdays - a Wednesday night and a Thursday night.. It takes forever to get seated even when you call ahead of time to make a reservation. And then it took me close to 50 minutes to get the food - both times. And to top it all, I called ahead of time to check if they had roomali roti available, and I was told they do. However on arrival, they told me they can't make roomali roti anymore because it takes too long (which I would've totally understood if I had been told that on the phone when I called) Food is still delicious and that's the only relief if you're still alive after waiting for 1 hour for your food. read more
