We asked them to make it spicy and they delivered quite well! I love rumali roti - it's like a handkerchief - very thin and tasty. It was very good. My hubby enjoyed the biryani - this dum biryani is only a Fri / Sat / Sun deal. Other biryanis are available all week long. I also had their irani chai - was very authentic. If you haven't tried it before, it's super sweet and milky. This used to be Appakadai and they shut down. These guys have spend some money to make it a little more upscale - with the skyline of Hyderabad. They have only 1 guy taking orders and doing the billing - they are still figuring out the workflow and I be more efficient. I will come back and try mor dishes.

***USP: wouldn't call it upscale but definitely a place with tastefully decorated ambiance serving some authentic Hyderabadi cuisine. ***AMBIANCE: they took over the appakadai location next to the 24/7 Indian grocery store Apni Mandi. Lot of fake greenery but the 3d wall murals are well done. They have traditional Indian jali over the windows as well reminiscent of some palaces in Hyderabad. ***FOOD: the food truly transported me back to my hometown. All the places serving what they call as authentic Hyderabadi biryani in the bayarea tend to be overly spicy, some might be delicious but it's not the same as the popular generations old restaurants from Hyderabad. We got Hyderabadi chicken curry and chicken dum biryani. The dum biryani was subtly spiced similar to a restaurant called Bahar cafe from Hyderabad. The chicken curry on the other hand was delicately flavored with the richness of coconut and poppy seeds. Not an overly thick gravy similar to North Indian styles but more of a thin yet flavorful South Indian flair style gravy. We got chilli garlic naans to go with the chicken. They were not too spicy but definitely on the smaller side. We had to order more as our usual order size was not sufficient. They have unlimited pani puri for 7.99 on Thursdays. Definitely doesn't gel with the ambiance they have going on but I was excited to try it nonetheless. Since it was unlimited, people just queued up and were taking a long time. I had to cancel my order due to that. Indian restaurants and chefs keep changing often in the bayarea and it has become difficult to find a place that stays consistent over years, I hope they maintain what they have going currently!

Lovely ambiance! This place was previously Appakadai and they have remodeled it beautifully. We ordered the Chicken Dum Biryani, side order of eggs and Salt lemon soda. Biryani was delicious! Meat very well done and very much Hyderabadi style, with no overpowering spices. Coming back to try more on the menu now that they are closer to my place!

    Chicken biryani

This is the chicken you get in chicken biryani uncooked not marinated inspite of paying 20 dollars for a to go biryani It might be a health risk to consume this

Overall, not terrible but not very good either. Ambience was a bit worn down. Service was a bit inattentive. They got our order wrong ... maybe English was not their first language. Food was edible, but pretty mediocre. The best thing is that portions were really huge for the chicken biryani. Pakora was over fried and borderline burnt. Spiced tea was OK. The biryani was easily enough for two people. Price for everything was like $31, which is super cheap but you get what you pay for.

Food is great but restaurants prefers Delivery orders over Dine in! You may have to wait more than 35+ mins to get food on the table.

The staff is always flying around with extra sambhars, chutneys, samples and orders and constantly checking in. Front of house staff is very good with accommodating group sizes, kids, senior citizens and being realistic with wait times. Special shoutout to Mr. Yathu - he goes above and beyond whats expected. He's found table space for my groups as large as 15 ppl or put of state, out of country visitors on short notice without compromising other guests experience, kept the extra portions for meals coming constantly to our tables. This is the vegan version of the benne dosa that is usually made with ghee. The dosa is different than standard dosas as it is very crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle. It is quite oily but that is to be expected from a dish that is normally made with generous drizzles of ghee. - ratna cafe sambar idli (8/10): two pieces of idli soaked in a pearl onion sambar. The pearl onions make this sambar unique by adding a slight sweetness and tang. The idli soaks up the sambar so i would recommend eating it fresh so that it does not get soggy. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! The food is reasonably priced and has tastes like home cooked food.

I buy several days worth to hold me into the week. Always very fresh. For example, if I buy at 9 in the morning my experience is that the Samosa's are still warm from cooking when I get home to eat at 10am. The conscientious chef is up much of the night before, or early in the morning, to cook fresh for the day. His sauces are so excellent. I sometimes stretch his dishes by pairing with my own vegetables as his sauces are so good. I highly recommend Satkar.

But we were undeterred and ordered anyway. I'd gotten the palak paneer, my favorite Indian dish and my usual basis for comparison, with kulcha naan and it was okay, but nothing to really write home about. The palak paneer was a bit sweeter than I had expected, but other than that, just fine. My coworker and I also split vegetable pakora that came with a somewhat spicy sauce (I am a spice wimp, but he is very much not), and those were pretty good. I don't quite remember what my coworker got as his main, maybe one of the dal dishes, but he also thought it was fine. The location itself is pretty small, and seems to be more for takeout than sit down diners, although that is what we did. Parking was pretty easy in the plaza, but that might be because the pizza place next door appeared to be closed? Things felt slightly dingy, but I think maybe in truth things were just a bit worn, right down to the Corelle plates which seemed like they had been in service for a long time. Decor is pretty sparse, but the lady behind the counter was nice enough when we were ordering. Overall, not a bad experience, but also not much of a draw for me. But if you like your Indian food a little on the sweeter side, maybe this is the place for you.

Tonight I was craving a home style chicken and rice dish similar to what my mom makes . Now I know it's not possible to get that from a restaurant, but the closest to that is the Donne biryani preparation that a few places offer in the Bay Area. So I looked up Yelp and found this spot. The fact that it already had 4.9 stars was reassuring but I didn't put too many expectations on it. But what I did was call the place and make sure they'd be open by the time I made that 28 mile drive. I spoke to a person named Sagar who took my order and told me to take my time getting there and drive carefully! Husband and I got there around 9:30pm and it's a cloud kitchen setup with kitchens in the back and a point of sale kiosk and counter at the front. As instructed I called Sagar and he came up to the counter with my food, and also let me know he had added a free dessert since I drove all the way from Hayward . Husband and I got home and immediately dug in and what can I say, the flavors totally took me back to my mom's kitchen. The Donne biryani was bursting with taste, and what made it superb was that the flavors were in balance, with neither the spices nor the aromatics being overpowering in any way. The other dish, the pepper chicken was epic by itself, and should have been enjoyed with a bread of some sort, because the biryani didn't need any accompaniment. As if this meal wasn't divine enough the cherry on top was the pineapple kesari dessert that Sagar kindly added to our takeout bag. Thanks Nalapaka, for a taste of home, away from home !
