Tonight I was craving a home style chicken and rice dish similar to what my mom makes . Now I know it's not possible to get that from a restaurant, but the closest to that is the Donne biryani preparation that a few places offer in the Bay Area. So I looked up Yelp and found this spot. The fact that it already had 4.9 stars was reassuring but I didn't put too many expectations on it. But what I did was call the place and make sure they'd be open by the time I made that 28 mile drive. I spoke to a person named Sagar who took my order and told me to take my time getting there and drive carefully! Husband and I got there around 9:30pm and it's a cloud kitchen setup with kitchens in the back and a point of sale kiosk and counter at the front. As instructed I called Sagar and he came up to the counter with my food, and also let me know he had added a free dessert since I drove all the way from Hayward . Husband and I got home and immediately dug in and what can I say, the flavors totally took me back to my mom's kitchen. The Donne biryani was bursting with taste, and what made it superb was that the flavors were in balance, with neither the spices nor the aromatics being overpowering in any way. The other dish, the pepper chicken was epic by itself, and should have been enjoyed with a bread of some sort, because the biryani didn't need any accompaniment. As if this meal wasn't divine enough the cherry on top was the pineapple kesari dessert that Sagar kindly added to our takeout bag. Thanks Nalapaka, for a taste of home, away from home ! read more

They operate in a cloud kitchen on Evelyn and are pretty efficient - my order was ready in 5 minutes as I was parked outside on the way back home from work. I tried their pepper chicken. I'm used to eating Tamilnadu style pepper chicken, and this (Karnataka style) was similar, but I would have liked it to be more on the spicier side, I felt it was a tad mild. I should have probably told them to make it spicy! I think it could've been a little less oily too - but again, it adds flavor. I'll definitely be back to try their other dishes - especially their Biryani! read more

Just discovered this place by chance and so happy to have found it! It's a relatively new place, a ghost kitchen. The owners are very sweet, we met them when they came out with the food. And now to the food: I got the donne biryani because I have been looking for this dish in the Bay Area and in SoCal fora year to no avail. The biryani was excellent! Very flavorful and yet not heavy. Made with seeraga samba rice which is even fancier and more expensive than basmati. The best thing about the food is that it tasted like home food: delicious and my tummy feels happy afterwards. The price was very reasonable especially for this area and the portions were extremely generous; the boxes were packed full of goodness as you can see in the photo. I plan to support this kitchen as much as I can because this is the type of Indian food we need in the area: dishes you can't otherwise find in the US made with love. read more

Exceptional dishes from Karnataka! Celebrated Sankranti with some traditional festival food and I must say I was blown away by the flavors and the quality. The portions were also very reasonable (Suggi Oota are you listening?). The Obattu and Obattu saaru was bang on. I did feel the mosaru Anna could have been a tad bit better (more vagrane with a healthy serving of menasinakayi?) but now I am nit picking. Also I must say sweet pongal was good but it didn't feel like it was made with Jaggery (House of Tiffin got it right but unfortunately they use millet) which was a little bit of a bummer and the pongal was not the traditional habbada gatti pongal with avarakayi and gatti chutney but it did taste great and the quality was good. read more

I was introduced to Nalapaka by one of my friends. Being a North Indian, I wasn't very sure of how Karnataka cuisine will taste but thought of giving it a try. The food was wonderful, authentic and really good quality!! Very good portions too! I have tried a couple of appetizers and some other entrees. The chicken and mutton biryanis were different from the usual hyderabadi biryanis but honestly they were so good.
