Overall great place, nice decor / theme, service is top notch! Tried multiple food items. Smoky handi misal and shahi panner, chapati stood out for us. They were def a sixer (out of the park)! Gobi Manchurian was decent! Vada pav, raj kachori didn't meet our expectations! Recycling plates and cups is really well thought. But overall terrific, pricing wise outstanding! Service is appreciated :) Will def visit again for sure!

We went for the Valentine's Day lunch buffet. They were overflowing, and had us sit in their banquet hall. Very polite service - they bring fresh roti, puri and paratha to your table. Indian buffets are very carbohydrate heavy - but I look for veggies and paneer to balance my meal. They had simple food and added a Hakka noodle plus some idli and sambar and pav bhaji, besides the entire food buffet. It was $22 for one person - for all you can eat, it's a very reasonable price. My favorite dishes - sabudana vada, peanut chutney, Srikhand, fried papad and sabudana papad and pickle. I am used to the thecha that is red colored and super spicy - they har a green chili one, but wasn't that spicy. The food is super simple - so if you're craving home cooked food, you should go. I tend to want to eat out for things I don't get at home, so I don't think I get cravings for this food. Will definitely take relatives that enjoy veggie simple food to this place. The ambiance is very simple - no frill place.

Stopped by Thecha after work and ordered pav bhaji and puri shrikhand for pickup. When I got there, I was told they were out of pav bhaji--which was frustrating since the order had already been placed. No heads-up, no alternative offered. Got home hoping at least the shrikhand would make up for it, but it was a complete letdown. The consistency was runny, more like kheer, and the taste was overly sour--definitely not what shrikhand should be. I can't even explain about puris Overall, disappointing experience with both service and food quality

Updating the review as the menu has been significantly updated Went over the thanksgiving long weekend. They served us some delicious kokum sarbat on arrival. We had the unlimited thali which had a variety of dishes and desserts. Also tried their smoky misal and the taste was really good. Have to return to try a few other dishes like sinhgad combo, puranpoli etc.

    Misal

(3.5 stars but rounding to 4 for potential) Tried this new spot recently and you can definitely tell they're still finding their rhythm- but there's a lot of potential here. The menu honestly made me feel like I was back home. Seeing things like the Sinhagad combo got me excited right away, and I really appreciate them bringing these regional dishes to the Bay Area. Food-wise, it was a bit hit or miss, mostly because of one consistent issue: salt. Almost every dish felt under-seasoned, which held things back. Vada Pav: Pretty average, nothing standout and again needed more salt. Thecha Paneer: Interesting concept--the paneer itself isn't coated in thecha, but the thecha on the side was actually really good. Sabudana Khichdi: Tasted nice overall but needed more seasoning. Sinhagad Combo: Presentation was great and the yogurt was a nice touch. Pitla was good, but the bhakri was too thick and under-seasoned. Misal: Easily the highlight. Probably one of the better misals I've had in the Bay Area--even here, a bit more salt would have made it perfect. Chai: Pretty average. Overall, I like what they're trying to do and I genuinely want this place to succeed. It feels like a few tweaks (especially around seasoning and consistency) could make a big difference. I'll definitely give them another shot in a few weeks/months once they settle in.

Underwhelming experience at Vishnuji ki Rasoi. The only real standout for me was the Kadhi--comforting and well done. The Besan ki Dal may be authentic, but it didn't work for my palate. Mix Veg Sabzi was very average and could be significantly better. The Misal didn't hit the spot at all, and most disappointing was the Masale Baat, especially given that it's their signature dish. Pooris were great, but the rotis weren't soft or homelike. The appetizers were boring - no chutneys were served, which made them feel even more incomplete. We visited during Sunday lunch and the restaurant was nearly empty, yet the service felt oddly disorganized. There didn't seem to be a clear process for the unlimited thali. While I appreciate the intention to reduce food waste and serve thoughtfully, generosity matters--especially when only a few items truly stand out. When we asked for Shrikand, we were literally served a spoonful. If something is good and requested again, please be more accommodating. On a positive note, our daughter really enjoyed the Puris and Shrikand. Overall, the experience felt underwhelming--the food didn't live up to expectations. In the past, we have had always great tasting authentic food here. Today was off.

    Banarasi mango lassi with cream

I was here with my friend, who treated me to an amazing maharashtrian dining experience. Umesh, one of the owners of this restaurant was great right from the beginning when we entered the resturant. We were seated at the booth with menu and a special banarasi Mango lassi with cream. A banana leaf was placed and one by one dishes were served- papadam, Mango pickle, bhajiya, kothimbir vadi, sabudana vada, with thetcha, panchamrit which was so delicious we asked for a second round, matki usal, daal, roti, puri. Shrikhand, mixed vegetable curry, shaahi paneer, Mango rasmalai, banarasi pedha... everything was so delicious and home made dishes, was truly a time travel experience with an ambience that reminds you of the village from Maharashtra, the walls, the utensils, the wall pictures of Shivaji Maharaj and other dignitaries of India. We were so full but it was a worth every dish that we tried as it was all good and just like home cooked with great customer service. I will highly recommend you for this experience.

When we arrived, the place was empty, but it began to fill up after we were seated. A kind young man showed us to a table and brought us menus and some water. It's beautiful inside. It's a long and narrow space and they have plenty of seating options for small and large groups. The chairs are covered in soft colorful velvet. They were very comfortable to sit in. There is a beautiful painting of a young woman wearing traditional clothing. There is a full bar with seating at the counter. The chandeliers are gorgeous and I loved the colorful umbrellas hanging upside down from the ceiling. Our waiter, Shreeshant, was beyond friendly. He was so kind and attentive to our needs. He gave us some recommendations for appetizers, which I really appreciated. We ordered the Chicken Tandoori Momo's (6 per order), per his recommendation. We also ordered the veggie samosas (2 per order). For our mains we ordered the Dum Biryani with shrimp, chicken korma, eggplant curry and butter naan. I really loved that you can customize your heat level with all the main dishes. We ordered all our dishes mild spice. First to come out was the Chicken Tandoori Momos and the veggie samosa. The momos came out sizzling on a cast iron skillet with onions and peppers underneath them. These came with a mild sauce to accompany them. The samosas came with three different sauces. The sauces were tamarind, mint and a spicy sauce. My favorite was the chicken momos. They were so flavorful from the inside to the outside. They have a tandoori flavor on the exterior and the sauce that it came with paired well with it. The samosas were also very good. I liked the mint sauce best, with the samosas. My husband liked the spicy sauce. I would definitely order both of these again. Next our main dishes came out. They also gave us some plain basmati rice with our food. The dum biryani with shrimp was so good. It's a very large portion. The shrimp were delicious. The chicken korma was creamy and rich from the pureed cashews. It went great with the naan. The eggplant curry was the most mild out of all the dishes. There were three cooked baby eggplants in a coconut curry sauce. I would say the sauce had more of a coconut flavor that stood out. It was good. The naan went well with everything really. We couldn't finish all that we ordered. We were given takeout boxes for our leftovers. We will be eating very good again with these leftovers. I really love their menu here. It's extensive with many different offerings. A big thank you to the staff for their excellent hospitality. We look forward to returning for more meals.

It was also very thin. The garlic naan didn't have fresh garlic, it seemed to be the pre-minced garlic preserved in lemon juice that you can buy in bulk, and it was burnt on top of the bread. I'm thinking they take frozen naan, spread the preserved minced garlic on top, and throw it on a grill to char it. The flavor of the curries was good, but they were extremely greasy. So greasy that when I tried to scoop some up with the naan, it all slipped off and just left the grease on the bread lol. The paneer pakora was pretty good, crispy, and came with a delicious sauce (a chutney of some sort I think). The mix pakora was soggy and flavorless, and we ended up throwing it out. The price for food at this place is on par with or more expensive than other similar restaurants in the area, but the food quality is poor. Hopefully they improve, but for now I'd say skip it.
