Coworker's favorite appetizer is the wonton poppers, which are also great! I've tried several things on the menu and while my coworker and I have some favorites (the lemongrass beef must be tried, and the green curry and curry noodle soup are both also fantastic), we haven't had anything so far that we haven't liked. I did bring my husband for a meal on the weekend and he wasn't a fan of the fried buns for the char siu bbq with lotus buns and thought the char siu was too sweet, but he enjoyed the spring rolls so hopefully he'll give it another chance later. Vietnamese iced coffee here is also good, but it's not one of the places that brings the little drip filter out to the table etc. in case you're looking for that (my coworker was hoping for it when we first came). The decor is fairly typical of a place run by the Supreme Master Ching Hai group, and the menu has the same vibe if not the same items (my sandwich-loving husband was dismayed by the lack of banh mi), which is a bit of a change from when I had been here previously almost a decade ago. I think it's a change for the better. The location is clean and the wait staff are friendly to the point of sometimes being suspiciously chipper, but it's actually pretty endearing. They also have a little mini market by the door where a few vegan dry goods and instant coffees can be purchased, although I haven't tried getting anything there yet since we're usually on our way back to work. Merit is part of my regular lunch rotation, so I expect to be back many times! Maybe someday I will have tried everything on the menu, even!

Well, Happy Flower proved me wrong because I came away with a very happy and full stomach and I did not even miss the meat! We ordered 8 different dishes to share family style, and I was especially pleased with the all seasons sampler and vegan fried rolls appetizers, as well as the pad Thai, salted fish fried rice, hainan chicken rice, tomato fish, and happy clay pot entrees. Each dish was quite large such that all 9 of us were able to try generous portions of each dish. And then we got two servings of the mango sticky rice to share and the mango was amazingly sweet! I did not try their boba drinks, but a few of my friends ordered drinks and enjoyed them. Their boba drinks are sized quite large as well. I will say, the meat doesn't necessarily taste like the meat it purports to imitate, but the textures for the fake chicken and fish are pretty spot on! After dinner, we went back to our room. I went to sleep around midnight, but my boyfriend stayed up. I was awoken at 3AM by a phone call from him; he was curled up on the toilet in pain from acute gastroenteritis. He was there for over an hour. I ran to the front desk for Imodium, but they didn't have any, so I had Imodium and electrolytes delivered via DoorDash. I even considered calling 911. We didn't sleep at all that night, as his stomach didn't settle until 6AM. Fortunately, I was okay. The front desk staff kindly granted us a late checkout because of our situation. Later, I researched what could cause such an upset stomach and found that high amounts of vinegar from pickled veggies can irritate the intestinal lining and cause acute gastroenteritis. The potato pizza had good flavors, but it felt a little too greasy for my liking. The taco was decent, but I wish it had been a little spicier. Having a spicy sauce on the side would have made a big difference. Overall, I enjoyed the ambiance more than the food and felt the service was also really slow. I'd probably come back and try some of their other dishes because the space itself is really nice, but I think the food could have been better.

I like that this space is bigger than the Redwood City location. There is more seating (no outdoor seating), lots of parking available if you go in evening (since offices are closed). (There was a small sign in the window where you ordered but clearly that was not enough.) We should have ordered online and picked it up to go. But the online menu was vague when it came to gluten free and other dietary guidelines.
