Nice little vegetarian lunch spot that I keep forgetting is out there! I came with my veg coworker and we both enjoyed what we got. I got their ja jang mien, and I really liked it--especially the thick, chewy noodles! My coworker got General Tso's, and we also got some veggie dumplings to share. The dumplings were a bit on the bland side, but otherwise good. Service was relatively quick. The interior is clean and well kept (I guess more than you'd think looking at the little strip it is part of), and the wait staff are friendly. The parking lot for the strip mall this is in is on the small side, though, and may be tough to find parking during the lunch rush if you don't arrive early (and I would highly suggest carpooling). Tasty and friendly, I need to remember to suggest this place for lunch more often over the closer places we tend to think of first! I will definitely be back! read more

I really wanted to love this place because the vegan wonton soup was absolutely delicious. It was flavorful, comforting, and worth every bite. Unfortunately, the customer service left a lot to be desired. I arrived shortly after they opened, and there was no greeting or acknowledgment when I walked in, even though the restaurant was empty. When I approached the counter to pick up my order, I gave the name it was under. Instead of confirming the order or asking any questions, the first thing I heard from the cook was, "Get her card first." The cashier then immediately said, "Give me your card." Only after my payment was processed did they hand me my food and say, "Thank you." I completely understand that businesses need to protect themselves and ensure orders are paid for before they're released. That's not the issue. It's the way it was handled. As a customer, it felt like I was being treated as if I might take the food and run, rather than being welcomed into a local, family-owned business. A simple greeting, confirming the order, and then politely requesting payment would have made all the difference. Great customer service and protecting your business can absolutely go hand in hand. The food was outstanding, but the experience made me feel unwelcome. Sadly, because of the customer service, I don't see myself returning. read more

The first time we were blown away with the flavors so we decided to come back, but looks like the flavors didn't We ordered pepper and salt tofu, scallion pancakes, generals chicken and fries, along with corn and tofu soup. Universally, we found the food to be lacking in salt this time. We were able to add salt to the General's Chicken and to the soup, but how do you add it to cooked pancakes?! I was running some errands nearby, so I decided to grab takeout. I went with General's Chicken and Black Pepper Chicken Chow Mein. When I arrived, there were plenty of parking spots, and the restaurant was empty. The parking lot is a bit small, so I imagine it can be tricky to find a spot when it's busy. I can't say much about the ambiance or service because it was a quick in-and-out experience. When I got to my car, I immediately vented the General's Chicken container and left the plastic bag open because I wanted to make sure it was still crispy when I got home. Note to the restaurant: I really appreciate when restaurants cut holes in the corners of containers for crispy/fried foods to keep them from getting too soggy. Having some venting for the steam to escape really helps. General's Chicken was my go-to before I went vegan, so I was really excited to find a vegan version. When I ordered on DoorDash, the General's Chicken had three spice levels: Medium, Mild, and Spicy. I went with Spicy, but the sauce didn't taste spicy to me at all. It was also super gingery, which I'm not used to. The sauce wasn't bad, but it didn't remind me of the typical General Tso sauce I'm used to. That said, I did enjoy the crispy texture, broccoli, and bell peppers. I'd rate this a 3.5/5. Yelp AI mentioned that the Black Pepper Chicken was the highest-rated item, so I decided to try the Black Pepper Chicken Chow Mein. At first bite, I was unsure of it, but as I kept eating, I enjoyed it more and more. I love that they include so many veggies, it really adds to the dish. I would give this a 4/5. I've been hearing rave reviews about this place from friends and family in the area and it does not disappoint! The food isn't an exact one-to-one match for what it's mimicking, but the flavor is so good and you feel even better after eating it. I loved the gobi manchurian the most. It was crunchy with a great meaty texture. The fish was a bit tougher than regular fish, but the flavor was spot on and I didn't mind the extra texture. The space is small and filled up quickly during dinner, but the service was super friendly and fast. Our waitress was happy to show us what the dishes looked like and explain what they tasted like, which was really helpful. Everything is 100% vegan. The ribs were my favorite among the other delights like kimchi fried rice w/brown rice (optional), homemade pot stickers and garlic spinach. However a bold black pepper Chicken chow mein is not to be passed over. The noodles are thick and slightly firm. Lavender tea was very nice. Prices were average. The dishes are served family style with decent portions. We ordered a lot of food and had to pack some to take home. Service was awesome. As a Mountain View resident, I've been here a few times over the years, mostly doing picking rather than dine in. In terms of the dine in area, it's in a limited space but one should always be able to find a table. It's family owned and they're extremely friendly and will definitely give you the best recommendations! I mostly come here when I have company in the form of friends who are vegetarians/vegans and want to eat Asian food or on days I want to cut down on my meat intake. Few dishes I've frequented 1. Black Pepper Chicken Chowmein - This is their highlight hands down. Flavor is spot on without being over the top on black pepper, good portion of soy based vegan chicken, and also adjustable oil based on request. N 2. Mapo Tofu - I would get this spicy to get a Mapo Tofu with a kick and ask them to not add much sweetish flavor to this dish, because if you get it towards the milder side, you'll get a sweetish taste. But you know, the portion size is crazy and there it is not too high on oil either. 3. Wonton in Chili Oil - This has a peanut based flavor/sauce and is on the sweeter side, but I do love the peanut based flavor. It mostly contains veggies like cabbage and carrots inside. Good dish, again good portion size. Over the years, I have tried other dishes like the Hunan Tofu/Vegan chicken, the Mongolian Vegan Chicken, the tofu fries, salt and pepper tofu with most dishes being food. And oh yea, the Thai curries are pretty decent too. The weekday lunch combos are good value for money. The garlicky noodle was a bit low on flavor/bland for me. I wasn't super fond of the Singapore style rice noodle too, but that might just be due to my preferences of liking thick noodles and not rice noodles. We arrived around 40 minutes before closing and had 10 minutes to quickly decide what we wanted before the kitchen closed. We ended up getting the Black Pepper Chicken Chow Mein, the Mo Po tofu, and a side of rice. Mo Po tofu (3.5/5): This was my first time having Mo Po tofu and it was alright. thought it could have been more flavorful. We added some chili oil and that helped a little. I wish the rice came with the dish but this is common in many restaurants. Black Pepper Chicken Chow Mein (4/5): Good flavors! The vegetables were cooked really well and I liked the black pepper. I personally liked this dish over the Mo Po tofu. We asked for it to be spicy but we didn't taste any heat. INSANELY GOOD. I brought my dad who is not a vegan here for lunch, and even he was impressed with the food. I ordered the black pepper chicken chow mein based on our server's recommendation, and it was absolutely delicious. Decently sized portion, and it came full of vegetables and vegan chicken, unlike some places where they give like 90% noodles. My dad enjoyed the moo shu vegetables. The servers were quick and friendly, and the food came extremely fast, probably within 10 minutes of ordering. We chanced upon this place and were greatly impressed. First, so happy to see the food came out so quickly even though the restaurant was so full. So many options to choose from! Black pepper chicken chow mein- the best of all the items we ordered. Noodles were perfectly soft, the black pepper added a nice twist. We've eaten here for years. So amazing to have an all-vegan takeout place near us. Every "meat" or "seafood" item is a soy-based substitute. But with all the great sauces and flavorings, it's fooled plenty of omnivores. It's wonderful for my children and it's one of their favorite places to eat! The folks working there are so kind to them and they remember us because my children love ordering a lot of the same things. Their favorites are the Garlicky Noodles, Basil Eggplant, Salt and Pepper Tofu & Vegetable Dumplings (appetizers), and Chow Mein/Fun with "chicken." One of my favorites is the Kimchi Fried Rice with tofu. Portions are generous and you can't go wrong with Veggie Garden takeout on a Friday night, or any night really. read more

It came with tofu as well which was equally delectable. Veggie fried rice- 4/5- delicious but very oily. There was no need for so much oil in this dish. Hopefully they take this feedback and work on improving it. Organic chicken salad- 4/5- my younger one wanted this. It came with a bunch of greens topped with lots of crispy wonton skins, fried "chicken" pieces and some dressing on the side. It was surprisingly good as the elements worked together cohesively. Vegetarian wonton with chilli oil- 4/5- another solid dish, the wontons were topped with some peanut sauce. Can't believe it took so long for me to try this place! It's right next to the vet I go to and I've had Veggie Garden bookmarked for awhile. Came by to pick up to go for lunch while visiting the vet. Lunch prices are reasonable and I thought portion sizes were good. The garlic eggplant lunch was enough for lunch and dinner for one person. Veggie garden is an Americanized Chinese vegan restaurant so a lot of dishes seem to highlight a variety of heavy, thick sauces whether it be the brown garlic sauce, lemon , etc. The sauce is delicious if that's the style you're craving! We got the basil eggplant, dry braised string bean, black pepper chow mein and garlic fish fillet. I think the base sauce for the eggplant, fish, and string bean was all the same (brown garlic sauce) but there was some distinctness to each dish, the basil really made a difference and was aromatic. The black pepper chow mein had a shockingly heavy amount of black pepper. I think some people love the heavy load but I definitely think it would be overpowering for others, can definitely get caught in the throat. The chow mein was good but a bit unsatisfying because there wasn't much of the noodles itself and had way more veggies. We didn't order rice because we wanted noodles to be the base. Eapecially taking into consideration the price is inexpensive for its location not only in mountain view, but in the bay in general. Truly I can see why this place receives so much love! Did not expect to find a place this cozy with food that hits home. This place is a gem! I got the Homemade Veg Wontons with Chili Sauce (A3), Hunan Tofu (E17), and the Black Pepper Chicken Chow Mein (S9). The wontons weren't spicy at all and came with a peanut sauce instead, which was unexpected but still really good. The Hunan Tofu was hearty with lots of stir-fried veggies and tofu in a rich homestyle sauce. And the black pepper chicken chow mein was addicting. Highly recommend! This place is a gem! If there's a restaurant that could convince me to go vegetarian for life, this would be the spot. He ended up getting the Black Pepper Chicken Chow Mein and I got the Sweet and Sour Pork (usually my go to at Chinese restaurants). If you love black pepper, you will love the black pepper chow mein. The dish is so full of black pepper that you can just taste it at the forefront of every bite. I took a bite out of it and it was a little much for me, but my dad absolutely enjoyed it! As for me, I loved my sweet & sour pork. If you gave this dish to me without telling me that the meat was replaced with soy, I wouldn't have questioned it. They do such a great job recreating the dish with soy such that you wouldn't know the difference! Not to mention that the flavor really comes through and the dish is super tasty throughout! The entrees don't come with rice, so you do have to order rice separately. Best part of all this is that it's not super expensive! We were there on a Sunday evening and last guest, probably, as there was no one there. It's a small restaurant in a strip center. We started off with hot and sour soup and fried scallion pancakes. So we can have the appetizer come in while we decide on the rest of the order. We were told the kitchen will be closing soon and to order the rest of the items. We ordered basil eggplant, basil vegetatable chow mein, kimchi fried rice, and thai green curry along with some white rice. We got our hot and sour soup, it was hot but no heat and not enough seasoning, but since it was a soup, no biggie we added salt, tasted ok. We started to receive other items, but the appetizer pan cake was the last to arrive. But it was worth the wait. It was different. It was like a sandwich with sauce in between, and it tasted great. Fried scallion pancakes are a must-have at this place. We had ordered all dishes at spice level 3 (level 1 to 4). Kimchi fried rice was good, but Kimchi was not to be found, though there were some cabbage pieces, but they were not kimchee. It can pass for decent fried rice. It was not spicy. Basil Eggplant was not only looking good and tasted good as well spice level was ok, I will say it was level 2, not 3. Basis vegetatable chow mein spice level was 3 they had used rhe thick noodle coated nicely with sauce and little chewy tasted good as well. Thai Green curry was more like a pink/red curry. I can't believe I've never written a review for Veggie Garden before - I'm a big fan! It's a place I have been going to occasionally for years, and every time I eat the food I say to myself how I need to come here more often. I really should branch out more and try more items from their extensive menu, but when you find something you like... for me, that's the black pepper chicken. I like the taste/texture of the chicken, and that there's lots of veggies added to the dish too. And of course, the sauce makes it all! My other regular item is the basil eggplant, because I love eggplant, and Veggie Garden's is great - I need to branch out to try more of their eggplant dishes. It's a very unassuming store front and I drive by it ALL THE TIME lol But today I was really wanting a vegan wonton soup and I thought this place was vegetarian but EVERYTHING is actually vegan - woot woot! So I got my large soup = the wontons on the side - housemade and they it was so satisfying once I added a bit of white pepper and a tad more garlic to it. I also tried the lunch special of Mongolian Chicken expecting to not enjoy it as a lot of meat substitutes are weird but not this one - so tasty and yet not chicken flavored which I appreciated - and you automatically get brown rice and some noodles with it. Super friendly and dang are they fast at cooking - my order came out in less than 5 minutes it seemed and I saw a guy sit down and order - and no kidding like 3 minutes later - his lunch was served! Came by for lunch during the work week around 11:30 and it wasn't too busy. I had the string beans with brown rice and Singapore noodles. I've never tried Singapore noodles before and I was definitely digging it! It's like pancit but with curry powder. So good! The fried tofu is awesome too! They are like fluffy tofu pillows. We ordered for a large family and shared the orange chicken, Mongolian beef, generals chicken, and black pepper chicken. The vegetables were all cooked perfectly, and the sauces were well balanced.
