Satkar has brought back their non-vegetarian dishes, and they are as fantastic as we remember them from years ago! We ordered palak paneer, chicken makhani, and bengin bhartha. All the dishes were absolutely delicious, and they still include a plain naan or order of rice with each entree order. I highly recommend you call your order in ahead of time. It's conveniently ready at the time you'd like, and you can just pay when you pick it up. I'm not sure how walk up orders are these days, but back in the day, you would have to wait quite a long time for your order due to how busy they are. read more

Satkar still has very good vegetarian dishes but the non-veg they have brought back is not that good. The butter chicken (makhani) was so over-buttered you couldn't taste anything but the butter. The lamb curry was better, but still very tough and dry lamb chunks. My advice to Satkar would be to either go back to vegetarian or do some serious improvement to the nonveg. read more

Came with a coworker who was curious to check it out since we're both veg*n only to find a sign on the door that they've started serving meat, so that was a little disappointing. But we were undeterred and ordered anyway. I'd gotten the palak paneer, my favorite Indian dish and my usual basis for comparison, with kulcha naan and it was okay, but nothing to really write home about. The palak paneer was a bit sweeter than I had expected, but other than that, just fine. My coworker and I also split vegetable pakora that came with a somewhat spicy sauce (I am a spice wimp, but he is very much not), and those were pretty good. I don't quite remember what my coworker got as his main, maybe one of the dal dishes, but he also thought it was fine. The location itself is pretty small, and seems to be more for takeout than sit down diners, although that is what we did. Parking was pretty easy in the plaza, but that might be because the pizza place next door appeared to be closed? Things felt slightly dingy, but I think maybe in truth things were just a bit worn, right down to the Corelle plates which seemed like they had been in service for a long time. Decor is pretty sparse, but the lady behind the counter was nice enough when we were ordering. Overall, not a bad experience, but also not much of a draw for me. Place was recommended to me by my general physician who is Indian. Phoned up August 12, 430pm and ordered $16 chicken korma, $16 chicken makhani, $14 bengan bhartha, each with a choice of naan or basmati rice. Took 50 minutes for my order to be ready at 522pm, and had to make a U turn onto bumper to bumper El Camino Real rush hour traffic 2 miles back to my house. The chicken korma and chicken makhani were curry dishes, spicy and full of flavors, with a decent amount of chicken. Went well over cooked cauliflower. The bengan bhartha is cooked eggplant, chopped and pulverized. Among the best eggplant dishes I have ever tasted, Indian or Chinese. Wife's favorite. Phoned up October19 430pm, and found out they were no longer serving meat dishes, only vegetarian dishes. Ordered the $14 bengan bhartha, the $14 Malai Kofa, and the $14 Navrattan Korma, the last two with plenty of vegetables in a spicy curry sauce. Combined them with the naan that came with the dishes. In the future, will order dishes from this place only after eating Costco chicken. Will combine the leftover rotisserie chicken breasts with the vegetarian curry dishes to satisfy my carnivore cravings. read more

I've been buying Satkar food for a couple of years now when they are at the Saratoga Farmer's Market at West Valley College. Always tasty and excellent. I buy several days worth to hold me into the week. Always very fresh. For example, if I buy at 9 in the morning my experience is that the Samosa's are still warm from cooking when I get home to eat at 10am. The conscientious chef is up much of the night before, or early in the morning, to cook fresh for the day. His sauces are so excellent. I sometimes stretch his dishes by pairing with my own vegetables as his sauces are so good. I highly recommend Satkar. read more

This is a small location but the food has big flavor. I picked up a paneer wrap from here and it was great! The lady at the front was super nice. She seemed genuinely concerned that I asked for no spicy sauce and said she would pack some on the side just in case I changed my mind. Butter chicken -- solid flavor but my fiancé said mine is better. It came with chopped up tandoori chicken where the chicken had red coloring. I feel like there's probably only 1 thigh worth of heat. Rogan Josh -- sauce is tasty but also very little meat. Meat is very tender . Tandoori shrimp -- this was probably the next value dish. It came with about a dozen prawns! Good and tenders. Such a great little hole in the wall joint. I've heard some great reviews of this place and everything lived up to the hype. As a white guy I'll go for the basic indian dishes and they were on point. The butter chicken was amazing, it had a really good smokey flavor which I've never had before. It was great. The Aloo Gobi was great too. So much flavor We also got the garlic naan, so fresh and delicious. Had some good garlic flavor without being over powering. Definitely a new go-to Indian spot in Sunnyvale. Only a few small tables inside, seems like mostly a to-go place but you can sit inside if you really want. I think it's a family run business which is awesome. My husband was a little surprised, because he remembered the last time we ordered from here there were meat options. We ordered anyway and the food was pretty good. I am perfectly fine with only vegetarian options. We ordered normal spiciness which caught me off guard, but it was pretty good. I liked that the naan was a good portion. We ordered for pick up. There is a small seating area. There is a parking lot near other businesses off of El Camino in Sunnyvale near the border of Mountain View. Food is pretty good! Ordered the papri chaat, bhel puri, aloo poori, and cholay bhature. The chaats were really well balanced and the chutneys were delicious! The aloo from the aloo poori was really good and we had an option of having it be thinner or thicker (we chose thicker), which was nice. The cholay bhature was also pretty good, but the cholay was just fine in my opinion. Really small restaurant, so it may be better for takeout during peak times. Mom and pop shop with homely Punjabi recipes. And I couldn't believe I would ever have kulchas in US. I would recommend you do a takeout from this place. Dine in experience overwhelms the limited space they have as well as the workers. We waited a lot for our food. Even the takeout should be ordered with buffer time built in because they get far more orders than what they can handle. Maybe it's also because we went on a Friday night. Growing pains is good. Satkar has been on my list to try since forever, the only reason I never tried them before was because they usually have a long wait time and I didn't have the patience. I finally got to try them couple weeks ago. They did have a 2hour wait time but they were upfront about it and the food was ready at the time they mentioned it would be, which is great. Pick up was really easy. They had a counter set up at the door and I felt safe picking up as it wasn't crowded. I ordered Tandoori chicken, Veg biryani and Malai kofta which comes with a side of rice or naan. The food was flavorful and authentic, it reminded me of ghar ka khaana (home-cooked food). It was totally worth the 2 hour wait. Biryani portion was quite small compared to what you get in other Indian places, not a big deal for me though. Would absolutely recommend this place, can't wait to order from here again. read more

I was on the hunter for butter chicken and decided to try Satkar considering the great reviews. I did read that the orders would take upwards of an hour, so decided to call in a little before noon on a weekday for takeout. I ordered the Butter Chicer which is called Chicken Makhani, and a side of Garlic Naan! I was told my order would take about 40 minutes, but I headed over at the 1 hour mark just to minimize waiting time. Satkar is located in a strip plaza next to Bevmo with plenty of parking. In fact, the parking lot and the restaurant were empty at lunch hour. My order was ready for me and I sped home to enjoy my meal. Side note - they take Apple Pay! The Butter Chicken dish comes with a side of basmati rice so I didn't have to order extra. I decided to pair the chicken with both rice and pieces of the garlic naan. The naan was HUGE, fresh, and full of flavor. I can't imagine myself ordering the normal naan, though I'm sure it's also great, because garlic over everything. Everything was so so so delicious the tomato cream sauce were seasoned with various spices to create the perfect flavor. It had a kick, but I would classify the chicken as mild to medium, not too spicy at all! Paired with the basmati rice and naan, it makes for the perfect meal. One of my favorite Indian eateries in the Sunnyvale/Mountain View area, and I've tried most of them! All the dishes are so flavorful and well prepared, from the samosas and the naan to the curries and biryanis. They did just go all vegetarian several months ago which has resulted in a somewhat more limited menu, but still everything is so tasty!
