This place is decent. I've been here for dine in a few times, but that was years ago. I started getting takeout from here recently because they're close to my house, and they're also available on DoorDash, my go to food delivery service. The food is okay. Their tempura is a little greasy, and they seem to add a lot of unnecessary "crunch" to things (pretty much just panko on top of things that don't really need it). Their rolls are decent, but I definitely have never been blown away by their selection. I tend to be a sushi purist, and I really love rolls that are primarily different varieties of raw fish. Unfortunately, on their list of signature rolls, there's really only one roll that fits the bill, the Iso Maki (tuna, yellowtail, salmon, cucumber, avocado, mayo, shaved bonito and tobiko wrapped with white seaweed). Everything else is spicy this, tempura that, covered in some kind of unnecessary sauce. I've also been told on a few occasions that they're out of certain sushi a la carte items, like raw squid, or sweet shrimp (the guy on the phone told me the sweet shrimp was "out of season" but there are other sushi places I frequent that I've never run into this issue with). Overall not my favorite sushi place, but they're decent on a night that I'm really craving sushi and don't feel like driving out of my way to go to one of my more frequented spots. read more

Hibachi is a loud, delightful and flaming time. Literally!! during the start of the show the chefs will conjure up a flaming wall of fire, merely inches away from your face. Then squirt water at you from a bottle shaped in the form of a 6 year old Japanese boy. Guess where the water squirts out of? Then he'll fling pieces of zucchini into your mouth, or into your cleave, if you're an attractive female wearing a low cut shirt. and then proceed to shower you in a stream of sake while yelling "more sake more happy!!!" This places sounds more like a porn set than a restaurant, and sadly the food confirmed my suspicions of the smoke and mirrors. It's all fun and games, until the food gets on your plate. Delight suddenly drops as you cope with the overly salty and obnoxiously oily food which serves up a very one dimensional flavor on their hibachi. The soul of a restaurant should and will always be the quality of it's food and that's where this place fails. Hibachis are now ubiquitous in the USA and the quality of the show is pretty dependent on the chef performing for you. I'd recommend staying away from here if you're looking for a good meal. However, the service was great!! they were very prompt and fast even with a party of 12 people!!! but think about it, would you want mediocre food rushed to your plate? There is one saving grace to this place and that's in their Sushi. Their rolls were pretty creative and tasted of flavor explosions, quite the 180 from their dull and bland hibachi offerings. Why did I give this place a 3 star rating then? Because the place is only as good as it's worst dish, and I feel there is just too much of a quality variation gap from their worst to best offerings. read more

With limited sushi options, I had heard good things about Sakimura from a friend and decided to try it out the other night for their 50% special with a friend. You know the saying "you get what you pay for"? For them it should be "you get 1/4 of what you pay for". As soon as we sat down the waitress appeared, handed us menus, and was back less than a minute later asking if we were ready. I asked for a few more minutes but ordered a tea; it was horrible. It was cold and flavorless - it tasted like someone had reused an old teabag to make the tea with faucet water. After waiting for 30 minutes in a near-empty restaurant our food came. The rolls were pretty standard - some salmon rolls, California, etc. but they were poorly rolled and below average in taste. Immediately after that they brought the sushi - it was AWFUL. It tasted like the sushi you find at an all you can eat sushi buffet - poorly made, dry, VERY rubbery, and old tasting. I couldn't believe how terrible it was. We ended up finishing the rolls but left the rest of the sushi it was so bad. Hopefully their hibachi and dinners are better than their sushi. In the end, Wallingford's sushi scene didn't disappoint; it was exactly as terrible as I had expected. I strongly suggest not coming here for any type of raw fish and maybe instead heading to Middletown or New Haven. read more

Our night started by being greeted by the friendly hostess. We ordered the Filet Mignon and Chicken Hibachi and were pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was; the meat was tender, nothing was over salted, and the vegetables were not over done. I can't believe there aren't any reviews for this yet. LOVE Sakimura. I am trying out new places around my new condo and my sister has been raving about it for a while. It is quite dangerous seeing it's walking distance from my place. The rolls here are awesome. They have some great specials, the snowman roll is a must (mango, spicy tuna and a whole lot more). I also enjoyed the sweet potato roll. I would say this is definitely a replacement for East in Milford and definitely better. The atmosphere is really nice inside and they have hibachi as well. I haven't had any of the sashimi yet but they had a good selection and the sushi bar appeared immaculate. Great service, fair prices (not cheap by any means but standard for sushi and you get what you pay for with raw fish) and beautiful presentation. If you are in the Wallingford/Meriden area, definitely check it out. read more

My absolute favorite sushi place in CT. Great staff, super friendly. Clean, nice ambiance. Awesome assortment of rolls at a reasonable price. Parking can be a pain depending on how busy it is. Decent wine assortment with some interesting options that pair well with sushi. Those who don't eat sushi will like the cooked dishes, they always look and smell appealing, and my friend loves their teriyaki chicken. I always opt for the Pink Lady roll and Mind Eraser. Went to sakimura last night with my gf for her birthday. We got there at 830, and the place was pretty empty, which wasn't surprising since it was a Tuesday night. I was worried the service wouldn't be great because we went to hibachi station and were the only ones in the room. However to my surprise the service was outstanding from bit hour waitress and our hibachi chef. Really put on a great show and didn't mail it in simply because there were only two of us. Aside from the service being outstanding the food was delicious too. We got our soup and salad as part of hibachi and they were great. Then we got pork and vegetable Gyoza which was really good and the veggie ones were by far the best ones I've ever had. We then got a Y2K sushi roll and it was sooooooo good. Seriously, I'd go back for that roll. For hibachi I got chicken with a side of noodles and my gf got salmon and steak. Seriously, it was all delicious. We also got hot saki and a scorpion bowl to drink. For $14 you get the scorpion bowl and if you aren't driving and want to get a delicious booze filled drink, then get it. The total check was less than $90 before tip, so a really great value for the amount of stuff we got. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and enjoyed it more than trips I've had to kumo and tengda. This has been a favorite spot for my boyfriend and I to get sushi, hot sake, and Sapporo's. Have never been on the side for hibatchi (because I have been to other hibatchis and when you have seen one, you have seen them all- am I right?) but always enjoy the sushi that is made fresh to order. This past Friday night, I showed up at about 9:30pm with 10 other people to have scorpion bowls/drinks/maybe some food. They immediately got tables together for us right near the bar and did not seem phased at all that we were likely just going to drink alcohol. They were fast with the service and very kind to us (even though the place closes at 11pm). We were out by 10:45- that's just how it worked out- but they would have given us all another drink if we asked. :o) Friendly service, good food, good drink! read more

I can't say anything bad about this place. Me and the girlfriend are sushi addicts, and this place is just as good, if not better, than any kumo. Most people probably go for the hibachi on Friday and Saturday nights, but we go during the lunch special; buy a special roll, get a normal roll $1. So there's the great deal, and the sushi is fresh. The hibachi is also good, nothing crazy better than others, but just as good. Better than any all you can eat sushi place, and just as good hibachi's. Came here for lunch with a co worker. I had chicken hibachi while my friend had sushi. The service was good in terms of pace along with the staff clearing off the table as we finished soups, salads, etc as well as checking to see if we were okay. My hibachi came out first and was good portion for lunch ($11.00) which included soup, vegetables, rice, and chicken. By far the best hibachi in this area. We've been coming here for years, usually for birthdays but this time it was a random drive by selection and we timed it just right. There was no line and we were able to be seated right away at a table that was just about to start ordering. It also helps that we lucked out with a good group- 6 people that were all together but were super friendly! Now having been to many different places I know that all the chefs do similar acts and their enthusiasm levels can vary. Our chef was by far one of the most involved with the show and seemed to be genuinely having a good time with the group- he was so much fun and I am just KICKING myself for not remembering his name. They offer the standard yet delicious salad with ginger carrot dressing and miso soup, then when the show begins they give you noodles, fried rice, veggies, and then your selection of meat/seafood. I ordered the filet and scallops and both were cooked perfectly. Everything is just so good and I always have enough left over for lunch the next day so it makes it more worth the cost when you're getting 2 meals out of it. We've been here multiple times for sushi as well in the dining area Witt mixed experiences service wise but the sushi is always good. I've been to just about every sushi and hibachi joint in the county but I will continually travel here for the atmosphere and stunning food. The beautiful trees inside the dining area continue to impress me, the fish is all very high quality, the hibachi is exciting and delicious...and they definitely don't skimp on the fried noodles and rice. This is one of the few places I consider myself a regular, and have even ordered "off menu". I love the staff and I love seeing the same people every time I go in. They even know to bring me a cup of their miso soup (which is divine) and an avocado roll right away. read more

I have come here a handful of times. The food: They have very delicious sushi (highly recommend the ocean roll for any lobster lover) and a great hibachi food and eating experience. Takeout: I have had nothing but wonderful experiences getting takeout from this place! They are quick and reasonably priced. My only bone is that I hate it when they put warm and cold sushi in the same container- all the sushi gets warm (blegh). Hibachi: Wonderful experience. This place has great hibachi! Everything is cooked really well and they offer noodles too--many places just have rice! The cooks are always very interactive and friendly, overall the servers exhibit good customer service too. This place is very busy on the weekends though but they do take reservations. I have tried this place 4 times in about 4 years, hoping it would get better. After tonight, I have given up! Me and my family are never going back. It is a Friday night, a busy restaurant night, the food should be fresh.....NOT here. I had shrimp hibachi - the shrimp were old, overcooked, with a bad flavor to them. My daughters salmon avocado roll was inedible. The avocado was old and too mushy, and the salmon was mushy too. The pickled ginger tasted sour, like it had gone bad. We were celebrating my son's 7th BDay, and he loves hibachi. Even he was disappointed in the food. They use a weeks worth of salt in the hibachi meals. I am amazed that they have stayed in business for 10 years. We are never going back. read more

Sakimura is just..amazing!!!! I have been there twice now, and each time it delivers. Inside is very cozy and they have numerous waitstaff for each table. Every time you are finished with something, someone is right there bussing your table. They also are extremely polite and FAST. I can't review the Habachi, because my boyfriend and I always sit in the regular seating section (ps..you get 2x as much food for the same price as the Habachi...just if you aren't interested in the show, think about it..check out the photos I uploaded!) so this review is strictly regarding the main dining room. We have sampled the Spring Rolls and Pork Dumplings, both of which were so good. The sauce is freshly made and you can tell they are made to order. Also, each time I got the Habachi order, my food portions were amazing, everything was cooked how I asked, and the seasonings were right on. My boyfriend ordered the "Lobster Fantasy" and raved how fresh and filling it was. I could go on and on about this place, needless to say I will be back and it is highly recommended! Bummer, I used to love this restaurant. Went in on a Sunday for lunch and they would not honor my Groupon, even though they only had 3 other tables occupied. They initially told me that I had to make a reservation, so I offered to go outside and call them. The manager first agreed to that, but then said that they were just getting too much business from their Groupon campaign and that we'd have to come back another day. I begged to stay -- we had just driven 2 hours from NYC and were starving -- and the manager kind of smirked at us, showed us a pile of his redeemed Groupons, and said sorry. Don't understand why they signed up for Groupon if they don't intend to honor it. We used to eat here once a month but will no longer give them our business. read more

I ordered takeout here the other day for lunch, and was disappointed. I ordered the California roll and Angry Dragon roll without the sweet miso sauce (I can't eat it due to an allergy). When I arrived to pick it up, the woman pointed to the bag and told me the price. Not that I need to be her best friend, but it would have been nice if she at least said hello. When I was finally able to eat, I noticed that the miso sauce was included, which meant I had to scrape off the top layer of the "spicy crab meat" which was shredded in long strips, and made me question what kind of meat it really was. Also, the California roll was 50% cucumber (one side was a tiny bit of imitation crab and a tiny slice of avocado, and the other side was cucumber slices)...I know it's only 5 bucks, but that's 4 dollars too much for rice and cucumber. read more

I've been coming here once a week for a while now and Sakimura is by far the best sushi/hibachi restaurant I've ever been too! The staff is always super friendly and remembers you by name! My boyfriend who is a very picky eater loves their hibachi chicken dinner, they always accommodate for him when he asks for no vegetables and in place of them extra fried rice. I have tried almost all of their hand rolls and have loved every one but i do have my favorites and they never disappoint! Definitely recommend Sakimura to anyone in the Meriden/Wallingford area! The servers here need to educate themselves on their menu FAST. At first glance, the menu had great selections of appetizers, maki, entrees. So I ordered the hiya yakko (cold tofu) appetizer and seafood udon. The server brought out spring rolls. So I thought ok, maybe they thought I ordered that. So I reiterated that I wanted the hiya yakko and pointed it out to her again. The server went away to confirm with the manager/host and came back to tell me "This is hiya yakko. The tofu is inside." In disbelief, I asked, "what about the bonito flakes and soy sauce?" She then pointed to the soy sauce on my table and said, "Yes, soy sauce". I refused the order because I did not order spring rolls. So I read the description to her again, "Cold bean curd with bonito shavings and soy sauce." Again, she walked away and finally got sorted out. They blamed the kitchen for this. So next, the manager/host brought out my hiya yakko. It was just plain tofu with lemongrass on top. So again, I had to ask where is the bonito shavings and soy sauce? Again, they point to the soy sauce on the table and said "we only put the bonito in the hot tofu, not cold. But we can give you some". So again, I have to read the food description to her. So now the server and the host/manager have failed me. Finally, the owner came by and looked at the situation...and said, "Yes, it comes with bonito on top. And the sauce is tempura sauce." It's okay if you didn't bother reading what I just wrote. But it shows how much effort it took to get my appetizer right. The food turned out average. The seafood udon broth was fishy and plain. I understand they were sorry at the end, but for once...listen to your customer! Because sometimes, we are actually right!!! read more
