    Crab stuffed cod

The food and drinks are always amazing at the New Mill, and the portions are good for the price! You can never go wrong with the crab stuffed cod. It's a great spot for date night or to celebrate a special occasion. The parking lot is always packed, so I would recommend making a reservation.

Wow! The New Mill is my new spot! Everything was perfect including the grounds! Walking in was even enchanting with a garden, bridge and a mill right outside the entrance. The red bar like building has so much charm and character, it made you feel cozy and reminded me a a house similar to Snow White's. The service was superb. Each staff member from hosting/greeting, our server, the manager and even the bussers were so polite and welcoming. My first time at this restaurant and it was a 10/10. They started us off with fresh bread a s olive oil. They also had a special of the short rib with green beans and mash potatoes that my daughter ordered. I ordered the stuffed cod with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Of course I had to try some of hers and both were phenomenal, I couldn't even pick which one was better! I ordered a Josh Cabernet to enjoy with my meal. The portions were generous that I packed half my meal to go and saved room for dessert. Once they told me they made a homemade cheesecake I was sold. They also had a seasonal bread pudding I could not pass up either so we had both. I was celebrating a birthday of someone who is no longer with us and let the server know and they placed a candle on the cake which went the extra mile and made this experience perfect. It was a way they went above and beyond and it was appreciated. I will definitely be back and I can't wait to try some of their other amazing dishes.

I was captivated by the warm and rustic ambiance of this restaurant. The food was simply amazing. I believe they served one of the best steak dinners we've ever had. The flavors of the string beans and roasted potatoes were delicious. The steaks were juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection.

It's rare to find such a well-oiled machine like New Mill. For a packed Saturday night, New Mill had it together! We went to celebrate my grandfather's birthday and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our server, Caitlin, was super attentive and even gave my mom a great suggestion of cooking her filet mignon medium rare plus, which we had never heard of before, but it came out exactly the way my mom wanted! Every dish was delicious, and we really enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant too. It's clear to see why you have to make reservations well in advance for weekend dinners here! We will absolutely be back!

The service and food was fantastic as always. This place never fails to come through. Nice table with a view of the little pond . This place will always be my go to for a wonderful meal and experience when I'm in the area . Don't miss it for your special occasion or date night with your special person.

The New Mill restaurant has a New England country home like charm! The decore and seating area is rustic looking and feels cozy and comfortable! The restaurant is definitely a local favorite as it was fairly busy for a Tuesday evening! The server suggested their marquis appetizer: Spiedini Alla Romano (made with mozzarella, battered/fried, and served with a light tomato sauce). I tried it, and it was pretty good, but nothing out of this world! Although Broccoli Rabe was good! For the main entrée, I ordered a very nice NY strip and it was very yummy! All in all, a very nice family friendly italian restaurant with fun decor for the evening! Enjoyed the food and the wine!

What a gorgeous restaurant! My parents have been raving about New Mill so on my visit to CT, I made sure we came for dinner. The inside is decorated so adorably for Christmas! It is the definition of cozy cabin feels! The service was beyond outstanding. We were a party of seven and everyone was tended to promptly. We had some drinks and appetizers to start including crab cakes, beet salads, calamari, and broccoli rabe with sausage. All were delicious! Everyone enjoyed their entrees--I had the maple glazed pork chop and am confident in saying it was the best pork chop I have ever had at a restaurant! This restaurant embodies quality, service, ambience...all of it! I can't wait to return on my next trip to Connecticut!

This shaved brussels and bacon side dish was to die for!!

We had a really fantastic experience at the New Mill last night. We have lived in Southington for a few years now but this was our first time venturing to the New Mill. We actually received a gift certificate and I'm so glad we did. My husband and I feel that through covid, a lot of restaurants have really gone downhill and we've been having a hard time finding a meal we've truly enjoyed lately. New Mill did not disappoint...at all!! We started with clams casino. Very tasty! We've grown up on the RI shores clamming ourselves. My family has been making traditional clam casino for 60 years and these are the closest to my family's recipe - sweet and simple - clams, bacon, peppers and onions. Broil until bacon is crispy - AMAZING! For dinner, I had a 16 oz NY strip special. It was cooked absolutely perfectly medium. It was served with delicious shaved Brussels with bacon and a mashed potato cake that was the perfect accompaniment. My husband had the cavatelli with caramelized pearl onions, sliced cherry peppers and Italian sausage. Soooooooo good!!! We just thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and our time out. So so GOOD! Can't wait to come back...now if they're only consistent, we've found a new gem!!

We had a gift certificate and thought we would try it. Nice little place I never knew it was there. We were seated promptly and ordered drinks. Although pricey, the fettuccine carbonara was very good. My wife had the crab stuffed cod, also very good. Loved the traditional salt and pepper shakers instead of those filthy mill type bacteria infested ones like some restaurants have. Nice dinner for two with tip, $116.00

My husband had the bay chicken (I think that's what it was called) it was also really tasty and enough of a portion to fill up on. We had tiramisu which was a huge piece and really good, it's light and flavorful. Not overly sweet. My only complaint was the chicken parm grinder, not sure what it was but it was really bland, and it got lost in the bread. We had the garlic bread with heirloom tomatoes which was also very tasty. Overall as usual really good and will go back, might not try the sandwich again but the meals/apps/dessert were all on point

Upon arriving we'd realized we'd eaten at this restaurant before (when it was in a different location) and eaten in this building before (when it was a different business). Caesar salad appetizer was excellent. Kids Mac and cheese was maybe one of the best Mac and cheeses we'd ever had, kids or not. And it was great as a pizza topping. My wife and I split a wagyu burger and The Craft Pie. The burger we believe we got someone else's, it was missing the espresso aioli and prosciutto jam. It wasn't until we finished it that we realized it was way different than we expected. The pizza was excellent however. I could have done without the pears but so many other flavors that were excellent, though the real winner was the sour cherries. I'd come back again just for this pizza.

A friend of mine and I went to Craft Kitchen for lunch on this Thursday…read more There was plenty of parking to the right of the restaurant, and the side entrance was right there. As I walked through the front doors, I noticed kegs alongside on the floor. This was kind of a turn off, kind of reminds me of a dive bar. So my mentality kicked in that we were going into a dive bar serving food. I kinda get the sketchy feeling. Once we were seated, and menus placed, we were served iced water A few minutes later, the server came back and took our order. My friend ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and some string french fries. I ordered the 1/2 smoked chicken, which came with two sides. I chose the rattlesnake beans and the creamy macaroni and cheese. Also include included was cornbread I originally wanted the street corn, as a side, but it was not available. Our lunches came quick, and my friend only ate half the french fries and cheeseburger, as she wasn't really turned on by them. The smoked chicken was fairly dry, with a very interesting smoked flavor to it that I can't put my finger on. I eat about 1/3 of it. Left the rest on the plate. The creamy macaroni and cheese was out of bounds top-notch. I could've eaten this all day. The rattlesnake rice and beans were just OK. The rice was cooked pretty good, and was seasoned well. The beans had a weird taste. Now thinking of this side dish, I was hoping for raw onions to be on top, but they were nowhere to be found. It'll be nice if there was chopped raw onions to go with this. The cornbread was delicious. I ate about half of it. It was a generous slice. While the server was fairly attentive, as she only checked in to fill the water glasses and ask how lunch was. She didn't ask us if we wanted a desert or coffee. Being old folks this would've been a great up for us, but it didn't happen. I had to ask for the check. I'm not sure if I would come back. I think this might be a one and done. The vibe just didn't hit it for me. Restrooms were clean. The restaurant was clean; the silverware clean. I don't know. It just was like a funky type layout and those beer kegs kinda sent the wrong tone to me as a guest. Lunch for the two of us was $40 and change and I left a $10 tip. We didn't have any cocktails or mock tails, we didn't have coffee or dessert either. From what I understand, the owner was near the exit when we left, not even a smile or a thank you for coming in...

It is way more spacious than their previous location and nicely decorated. We sat in a nice Modular Half Moon Restaurant Sofa in the back. Felt like I was looking down upon the rest of the guests having dinner. Nice table just felt a bit like we were on display however I still enjoyed as I love the style of these tables. Our waiter I think was new and definitely did not know wine. We asked for a bottle of the Merlot, which he pronounced back to us "Mer-LOT." I couldn't help but chuckle a bit when he left the table. Someone else came and opened the wine for us and when our main server came to check on us, he grazed the side of my glass and freaked, telling us the glasses are $500 each and if he breaks one, it comes out of his paycheck. Ummm what? This stuff we probably should not know! Again, I think he was new, probably not having much experience as a waiter. He definitely needs training on how to pronounce wine! Moving on to the cheese, they used to give you a cheese board with a few different cheeses. It's a bit different now. They give you whipped butter, a few pieces of cheese (last night was Cheddar), roasted red peppers, and whipped goat cheese with a touch of honey on top and some bread. Not sure if this changes/rotates at their new location. We chose not to do the raw bar or appetizer courses (fyi those are extra). For my salad, I chose the Signature Salad (forgot to take a picture of this course). This is where things went downhill for me. I asked for no apples. He said no problem. He did not tell us they ran out of the dried cranberries and caramelized nuts which to me make the whole salad. I used to love this salad at the old location. So, when telling us the specials he did say he "thinks" they had one salmon entree left, but had to check. Restaurants run out of things, and I get it, but take that salad off the menu if you're out of 2 ingredients and the customer asks for no apples. All that we got on our salads was lettuce, gorgonzola and fried potato skins. I feel like I had French fries on top of lettuce. It was awful. Also, I'm the only one that asked for no apples and my boyfriend got the same salad I got with only potato skins and lettuce and gorgonzola so clearly they were running out of things. We then saw other customers getting the same salad lacking main ingredients. For my entree, I got the Heavenly, which was supposed to have a lobster sauce. I couldn't put my finger on what the flavor of the sauce was. It was strange. It wasn't bad, it just didn't really go with the lobster. It had a brown tint to it. The manager came over after we ate and asked us how things were, and I told him about the salad and asked what the flavor in the sauce was. He told us a crab style sauce which made sense. Boyfriend had the filet. He said it wasn't Ruth's Chris good, but it was good. Mashed potatoes were very bland. Presentation was pretty bad. Dessert they get from a third party. I had the flourless chocolate cake which was the best part of the meal. Desserts are where they have improved with the new location. They used to give you petit fours style desserts, and now they give you full size desserts. It was delicious. I really want to like this place more because I like the concept of what they do. I guess on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays the chef creates whatever he'd like for guests for $25 a head. Mystery meals. The manager said that's where the name "Adventures in Eating" comes from. Again, we had come here previously, and I had a problem the last time with the Branzino where the waitress didn't tell me it came as the whole fish. Servers are friendly here, they just aren't top notch. Food is ok.

It was also well decorated for the Fall Season. There were a few employees that were visible at times, but they weren't organized in such a way to provide a typical lunch experience. The person who was working the bar also served as hostess and my server in the main eating area. So I waited a minute or so at the host stand to be greeted while she finished a drink. There was also hammering in the kitchen area for a decent part of my lunch. My server was very nice though and hustled to try to meet everyone's needs. I believe Ideal Tavern recently won the Southington Wing Fest. So I wanted to try the wings. I asked my server what the most popular wing flavors are and she didn't have an answer. I ordered the Sweet Chili Gorgonzola because it looked like the most interesting option. I also ordered an Ideal BLT Burger. The wings and burger were brought together, which I didn't ask for. That obviously defeats the purpose of ordering an app. The wings were meaty and had great texture. They were more glazed than sauced. I thought the Gorgonzola component would be more of a sauce but there were actual pieces of Gorgonzola cheese. The Gorgonzola was good quality. The burger was big and cooked to my requested medium rare. I didn't note any seasoning. The burger came with cheddar, which isn't the best melting cheese. You could tell they tried to melt the cheese, but the cheese broke off rather than stretched when I pulled at the side. The bacon seemed like it was probably high quality, possibly uncured bacon. The texture of it wasn't great for a burger. It was hard in parts and too difficult to chew. I also wish the LT part of the BLT had a bit more focus. I didn't think the Truffle Aioli worked for a BLT either. The fries had kind of a unique wide swoop cut style. I think Ideal Tavern could pay a bit more attention to the details of what makes a good customer experience. They have some good things to work with though. 3.75

Someone gave me the tip to try these as he thought they would "compete" with the aforementioned. For the first 5 min of my visit, I thought it might be the case. Here are the reasons to ABSOLUTELY GO!!!!! Even if a 30-45 min drive. 1) SERVICE - simply fantastic. Huge thanks to Destiny and the kitchen for making my experience great. 2) ATMOSPHERE - THIS IS the place I want to come to watch the games, for the long haul in the fall or playoff time! Great lighting. Music gives way to the game. Locals. Golf and bowling games. You name it. Fantastic. 3) THEIR BLUE CHEESE - unique. Delicious. Clearly house made. Makes the wing experience better. Here are the reasons I would only go if convenient: 1) THE FOOD - My chili to start only said beef chili on the menu. On first bite, there was a stinging salty taste of BACON. I have no problem eating bacon, but should say it on the menu for those who do not. And, that flavor profile is not what chili evokes. 2) THE WINGS - when the blue cheese and veggies came out, I was almost hyperventilating with excitement. The wings then came. Huge let down. Without going into the subtleties of the sauces, I'm more focused on deciding if they were frozen-pre-breaded wings or fresh wings with a salty/shake and bake coating on them. They're huge. They're crispy (kitchen is good). They're just not a traditional wing (should also say coated on the menu). 3) THEIR OIL - one of my wings was a delicious lemon pepper dry rub. So much promise. So crispy. Then, the flavor transfer hit. They must have fried fish on the menu. Same/old fry oil So my wings without a sauce (dry rub) tasted faintly of fried cod. Gross. I will go back. I liked the staff and feel enough. It could be fun. But it's not the hidden wing Mecca I will continue to search for. Service, feel, blue cheese earn all the stars.

The food was delicious, and Jamie made sure to alert me to any food restrictions for my guests with allergies, which was much appreciated. I would definitely hold another party here in the future! Held my daughter's 18th birthday there with a party of 19 total. She was able to pick appetizers…read moreand entree items and have it served family style on the table. Everything was absolutely delicious! All the attendees were raving about how great it all was and how impressed they were at how huge the portion sizes were! Our head server was extremely tentative to all our needs and even lit every candle himself on my daughters cake. He would ask me things prior to delegating or delivering the next thing. All the service members were great, but he was phenomenal. We had plenty of space as the table was large enough to fit all of us comfortably. We didn't feel like we were on top of any other people close by, nor each other. We will definitely be back again without any doubt!! Most establishments today don't let you take your leftovers home either, but Viron's did!! They packaged up everything!! TEN OUT OF TEN!! The owner knows what he's doing!!
