I had an absolutely incredible time at Red Fox Restaurant & Bar and I can not recommend it enough! Everything from start to finish was a true five star experience. I started off with the Red Fox Coconut Mojito and it was so refreshing and perfectly mixed. For food, we got the Grilled Scallops which were cooked beautifully and had so much flavor. For my main course I treated myself to the 18 oz Dry Aged Bone In New York Strip. It was an absolutely massive and gorgeous cut of meat, cooked exactly how I wanted it, and so juicy. We finished the night with the Wild Strawberry Ice Cream which was the perfect sweet treat to end such a hearty and savory meal. The atmosphere was great and the food was just out of this world. I made a reservation at the Red Fox in Middletown specifically for their Thanksgiving feast. My friend and I arrived on time, hungry and with no other holiday plans. When we checked in, the hostess told us the Thanksgiving buffet had ended at 4 PM. I explained that I had a reservation, and she simply said she didn't know what to tell me. When I mentioned that the website didn't show any time cutoff, she blamed it on whoever manages their online postings. What made it more frustrating was seeing plenty of food still out from the buffet, yet we were only offered the regular menu something we didn't come for. We were hoping for the Thanksgiving experience and comfort you expect on a holiday. It was disappointing to be turned away and told to find an alternative when most places were already closed. I've dined here many times and always had a great experience, which is why this felt so unexpected. We came Saturday to see Marty Q but turns out he was playing in the bar instead of the dining area where we made a reservation. Dining room had a nice ambiance so we decided to stick with our table in the restaurant. Dinner started with a really nice trio of different flavored butter. Bread was meh. I would upgrade that a bit. It was also way too much for the two of us so a bit wasteful. I got the Red Fox signature salad which was absolutely delicious. Ceasar salad looked ok. Nothing fancy or special about it. Salads are a good size. Could definitely split those. Entrees are where things went wrong. My octopus (which I had for my entree) was completely burned on the underside and the chipotle hummus listed with the dish was missing. My boyfriend got the salmon and the risotto...I felt...was not good at all. We then had to hunt down our waitress to let her know about my octopus. They brought back another one fairly quickly, but this one was mushy and could've been cooked longer. They were nice enough to take that off the bill. I went here with a party of 17 and they were really accommodating. We did have a reservation so definitely need to make one for large groups like that. Surprisingly no one's order was messed up with such a big group which was wonderful. All the food that we tried was delicious including the Red Fox salad which was delightfully refreshing, the buffalo chicken balls, and the calamari which was crispy but not drenched in oil. For the meals, I tried the blackened chicken fettuccine which was a large portion and absolutely delicious! The chicken and beef tips over mashed potatoes were also delicious. The tiramisu for dessert was really great, and often I don't like tiramisu but this one was really creamy and delightful. There is a good amount of parking and a bar area if you prefer bar seating. Ambience was good, waitstaff was great, the downer was the spoiled food. My girlfriend religiously orders scallops and this time they were raw and spoiled. The waitstaff took care of it and brought us a new dinner, but, when the bill came, we were charged for the more expensive meal that was disgusting. I have been to Red Fox four times and absolutely love it! The two times i have been there for dinner, we sat outside on their patio. I highly suggest ordering a bottle of wine (red is my recommendation), and the steak is superb! I also went there for two events and went to their upstairs room. At the most recent event, they had a buffet of brunch foods, with the pasta and the garlic rolls being the best of the selection I got to try. They also make a mean tequila sunrise!! I was also in the mood for something crunchy, so we did the house chips that comes with Gorgonzola dip. To my surprise, a complimentary bread basket was also served. Typically, a bread basket comes with oil, Parmesan, etc. Here, it was more of oil mixed with a salsa? I'm sure there is a name for it, but it escapes me right now. I could eat it all by itself, and at some points I did. When the wings came out, my eyes grew two times. They came out hot & are quite jumbo and you get 10 wings. Not bad for $12. The chips were house chips, The Gorgonzola was delish. Nice and stinky as it should be. Once the chips were done, some Gorgonzola was leftover to try with the wings. A nice combination. For drinks we did a couple of wines from the happy hour menu. Then, while checking out the main menu, I saw a pistachio tiramisu martini! Before finishing my wine, I ordered it. And oh boy was I ecstatic when it came out. The color was beautiful! Reminded me of the clear ocean waters found in the islands. To top it off, literally, a biscotti was balancing on top. There's nothing like the original! I've always enjoyed the food and staff at Red Fox in Middletown. They have a great happy hour menu from 3-6 daily in the bar area. They also have a bar bites menu in that area also. I've tried their rigatoni w/vodka sauce and turkey club from that menu. Both were delicious! Easter Buffet, This year was a different year and decided to go out for Easter dinner. While there were many restaurants offering Easter dinner we chose Red Fox in Middletown for the items suggested on the menu as we have some who are vegetarian, and those who eat fish but no meat. I made reservations for 11:30, we arrived on time. While we were being seated, we walked by the food, and seated. No one came to us to ask us what we would like to drink since drinks came with the price of $65.00 pp. We had to stop someone walking by and asked if we just go up and they said yes. I walked up and it seemed everything was cramped and plates were in the middle I couldnt even reach them. As I walked around looking, some items had no utensils, and nothing was labeled!. I will say I was totally not expecting all the pancakes, waffles and crapes in one pan, also there was nothing under the food to keep anything warm. All food was cold or room temperature. The shrimp was undercooked as it was not firm in the center, that was a waste of food as I saw many people not eating what was in their plates. Our table was on a slant and I had to keep pushing my plate up. There was no stations and food was just added to the cold food, the meat was well done. The food was very unpleasant we all just looked at each other while eating and what we ate did not even come close to what we spent. You know the saying one and done, this is just that. I wanted this to be enjoyable, but it was not. I do not suggest going here for a buffet I am surprised this was allowed as the food needs to be kept a certain temperature for public use. Been her a few times and it never fails to impress. We were a party of six and ordered various entrees. Everything was great. I was most impressed with the service. Well organized and executed by multiple staff and a maitre de/manager that was very engaged. I really love restaurants that invest in oversight and encourage teamwork. The dining spaces are a bit different but very nice. I read some negative reviews regarding noise/music but the bar space is well insulated from the dining areas. Give them a try! Now it is a super dining establishment where I just had another birthday lunch [I know it's October now but that's how I roll!]. Wow. Simply wow. I have to say this was one of the best recent restaurants I've found in the state. We did happy hour in the bar and then dinner in the dining room. Both were amazing. We were there for happy hour so $1 oysters were a hit and $7 nachos plus 1/2 price martinis were awesome. The meal was spot on some of the best food we've had at a restaurant recently. The salad was well balanced and tasty. The steak was some of the most tender and tasty steak I've ever had and the chicken dish was a home run. Add the large Mac and cheese side and you're talking about an amazing dinner for me and the family. We also got a bottle of wine for $40 which is $14 at stores so solid buy. The wines are cheap here for a restaurant. I'd strongly recommend this place to any looking. It might not be where you'd expect a top flight restaurant but it meets all the requirements of a 5 meal. I have lived in Rome for a while, but this is the best Italian place ever. The freshness and homemadeness of everything is evident. The seafood mix plate exceeded my expectations. So the food was good and large portions. I think the red sauce is good, not great. I find it weird that they say this is like being in italy yet many of their dinner entrees come with potatoes instead of pasta. In Italy everything comes with pasta. We got calamari and the meatballs for appetizers. The calamari was very good, but the meatballs were a three out of five. The veal parmesan dishes had very tender veal and the eggplant Rolatini was also good. We were seated in the "wine room" which offers a very luxurious ambiance. The chairs were very comfortable (nice larger leather chairs- not typical dining chairs that you find in restaurants) and we all had ample space around the table. This created a very inviting setting. Our server was extremely attentive and didn't miss a beat. We all enjoyed our cocktails and the bottle of Bordeaux that we shared with dinner. The wine list is impressive! We ordered several appetizers for the table that were all delicious. The calamari and the bacon wrapped shrimp were fan favorites. I personally really enjoyed the beet salad. I ordered the special which was a mushroom ravioli. It was a huge portion! The sauce was lovely. I enjoyed it because it was rich but not heavy like cream sauces can be. My husband had the NY strip. Overall it was good but the cook on it was inconsistent throughout when it was ordered as a medium rare. It was still delightful but the temp should be spot on. The Red Fox is a bit out of the way, so you don't have to deal with the crazy traffic. There is limited parking by the front door, and additional parking down below or in the back. I went in December, and the decoration was gorgeous. Their lower dining room was all decked out in red and white for a Christmas party. There were lights and tasteful decorations all around the main dining area and the bar. It made dining a lot of fun. The wait staff all worked cooperatively, and one of three people was paying attention to us at any given time. It made refills come really quickly! The food was fun - the shrimp spiedini was an adult version of mozzarella sticks. The shrimp was well cooked and seasoned, and the cheese was real with no artificial taste. The homemade garlic focaccia was stacked like Jenga and had sauce poured on at the table. The bread had a crunch on the crust with a fluffy inside. And the sauce.... As an option you can get onion rings or fries instead .The sandwich was excellent and the chips were freshly made which is unusual for homemade chips. The wife had the Italian Meatballs that came with a house-made Marinara sauce that was thick and bold. Fresh bread with an excellent house-made "dipping" sauce was served with the meatballs. I can't say enough about Red Fox! The service by Eldo was fantastic! The food was exquisite, and the tiramisu martini was to die for! We enjoyed the appetizers of seasonal grilled peaches with walnuts and house made potato chips with fresh gorgonzola crumbles. The entrees were very flavorful, and the pasta with shrimp and scallops sauce was so creamy and delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and the lemon creme on the plate was just the right touch. I also try their famous Grappa, which is a homemade liquor, and boy, I tell you all you need is one drink of that for the night! But the best ending of the meal is always dessert! We had warm brownies with vanilla ice cream, and our server poured hot fudge chocolate syrup on top! And the affogato was another amazing treat of hot fresh espresso with gelato.
