This review is for delivery. My brother had ordered combination beef pho. My sister and I both ordered a beef banh mi. And we all shared an order of fried wontons. My brother said his pho was really good and the broth was very tasty. I didn't even get a chance to take a photo of his soup. My sandwich was full of flavorful ingredients. Great place to go if you want reasonable priced Vietnamese food. It's not the most authentic, but it gets the job done. I've been here many times and had their bun bo hue, bun rieu, and most recently their mi quang. Their mi quang tastes like mi quang, but what makes it not authentic is the ingredients that are in the bowl/missing. For example, they put the meat from bun cha in the soup. If you're not familiar with the meat, it's like a grounded pork patty. That's the only meat protein in the dish besides the shrimp and quail egg they add. Authentic mi quang usually has pork shoulder/pork belly slices instead of the pork patty. Don't get me wrong the pork patty tastes good, but the sweetness of it doesn't go with mi quang. The owner (male) seems like he's rude, but actually a nice guy and know all his usual customers. If you want more authentic Vietnamese food in the area, I recommend R&D Cafe or Pho Auntie in Castro Valley. read more

The chicken & beef broth both were amazing! Baby & me ordered this in a few nights ago. We both were feeling under the weather after a spontaneous lil trip we decided to take lol! Only he'll understand that, but the next day we were not feeling up to anything. So decided to order this because I mean soup heals all doesn't it? I got him the beef & me chicken! I loved mine so much however I don't like rice noodles and that's what it came with.. sadly it didn't give me an option to be basic and ask for egg noodles lol! I really just can't stand rice noodles and I felt like my soup was just full of rice noddles. I also wished I could've got extra green onions & lemon! Flavor of the broth was on point tho, cook of the chicken was great! My baby's beef was good too, almost butter like. He added hoisin sauce tho and I wasn't a fan of it. Also ordered shrimp fried rice.. I hate peas and they added ALOT of them so I did sit there picking them out. Rice want too special pretty bland to me but nothing a lil hot sauce couldn't fix. Family owned and FIRE! I've eaten at Saigon House years ago but don't remember much of the experience. However.. I swung by to try their food again TWICE and can stand on my opinion that this place is fire. I personally came to try their pho but stumbled upon the appetizers and got to try 2 different spring rolls. #4 -- 4/5. Marinated with lemongrass I'm sure but not super overpowering. #4NN -- 5/5. Peanut sauce was fire and complimented both spring rolls very well. What I loved most about this roll over the other is that this one has a fried egg roll wrap inside so there's a different crunch texture aside from the veggies. #19 -- 5/5. What I love most is steak and beef balls in my pho without having to order extra meat as a side order. Portion was great and the broth was yummy. BBH -- 5/5. I didn't personally try the BBH but it looks very good. My partner said it was fire and would continue getting it every time we revisit Saigon House. Service was great honestly, water immediately upon arrival and my order was taken within 5-10 minutes. The restaurant isn't super big, I want to say it'll fit maybe 20-30 people at most. Saw many great reviews and decided to give it a try. I ordered #5 goi ga salad & #19 pho with tai, nam, and bo vein, plus a Che ba mau to go. What I really liked about it is that it's a mom and pop shop with good ingredients and portion sizes. All of these were done right and honestly taste like what you'd get if you're in Vietnam. The issue is that it's quite heavy on the salt but lack vinegary element and balance of flavor in these dishes that make them seem bland. The #5 could use a bit more vinegar and red chilies because that's the signature of this dish. Also, if they're using chicken breast meat rather than chicken thigh or drumstick, they should try to make the overall texture a bit more crunchy with the other ingredients so it doesn't seem too mushy. This dish has to be crunchy. Oh, they forgot to put red onions here too. Not to mention the fish sauce/nouc Cham needs more acidity flavor here. The beef noodles pho was too salty for some odd reason. The meats are overly flavored with salt so they need to lighten up! I also finished my glass of water. There's a lack of lemongrass or something in the broth. Che ba mau was good because they made them in house and not canned stuff. They could add some salt here to tip the coconut juice towards the salty side with more shaved ice on top because all these ingredients and coconut cream made it too sweet. Try blending the green beans up before serving it because all the residue of the beans doesn't give a smooth taste. Overall a 3 for authenticity and effort! read more

I've bookmarked this place for a while and finally came with my mom to try it. My mom ordered the regular pho and I had BBH for myself. Before she dived in, I took a first sip on the soup and it's sour. It's not cuz of the food turned bad but I'm still not sure why it tasted sour. I had about the same taste of the BBH soup base as well. BBH was quite meh compares to others. There's not enough shrimp paste and lemon grass smell in it, they are the very basic of BBH. The stars speak for itself. It's a family owned and friendly place but I'm quite sure non-of any Vietnamese family cooking pho would has a sour soup base. read more

If you're looking for below market prices for above average quality Vietnamese food, this is the spot! Sadly, I forgot to take photos, but the food is legit here. Definitely busy since it's Mother's Day, but still a hidden lesser known spot, so the wait isn't crazy long. I got the Pho Tai and asked to add tripe to create my own off-the-menu Pho Tai Sach, which the server happily obliged. The noodles were al dente just like I like them, the broth was fragrant and flavorful, the beef was tender and plentiful, and the amount of herbs and onions puts other pho spots to shame! - grilled pork fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce were a tasty appetizer - friend had her go-to usual bún chả hà nội which looked amazingly savory. The grilled meats were also abundant and the vermicelli and herbs/veggies were plentiful, too. You walk up to pay at the counter like many Vietnamese spots. While waiting, I saw a server bring out a legit looking fried rice and as he passed me by, I could smell the "wok hay." Yes, I said smell. Apart from the delicious food, there is a very kind gentleman that works here. Prime location as well, got to stroll around local markets a bit after eating too quickly. The cadence the owner(?) has with his customers is quality -- Workers here are very inviting. That's the first thing I noticed when we walked in to this restaurant. He's from Southern Vietnam but his wife and the workers are from central (like my family). Aside from connecting on that, we had a casual conversation with him and joked if he visited the bar next door after work. The owner even had a fun back and forth with my nephew. Catered "chow mein" and it was the best -- My first time dining here, I had the Bun Bo Hue with Pho noodles. The broth was delicious, perfect level of spice and fermented shrimp paste. Some places overdo it and make it salty, this was balanced. My nephews enjoyed the rice plate and the shrimp egg rolls. I'm not a huge fan at all but they kept grabbing more, assume they loved it. We ordered nam neung pork spring rolls which were delicious and the peanut sauce was thick and not too hoisin saucey. The grilled pork vermicelli bowl was super good, and the pork was extremely tender, like a meatball texture. My partner liked his bun reiu crab soup, but said it wasn't the best he's ever had. It was a long day. Like, wake up at 3:30 am and not get home until 10 pm day. Not to mention the long drive to and from San Francisco. Along the way, we drove past this Vietnamese restaurant 4 times, so it gets me thinking. It's about 6 now, and I'm going to need food before I get home. My sister says Vietnamese sounds good, so that settles it. We've past the other restaurant and we're not going back when we are 3 hours from home. We move forward. Find another one. Quick Yelp search and we find our spot. Things start slow initially. I take the bowls and drinks still on the table from the last guests and move them to the table behind us, where they stay another 5-10 minutes. The first thing I notice about the menu is that it's way larger than most restaurants, mostly because of the to-go section, which isn't normally included on the main menu. Most be pretty popular. We get some egg rolls, pho, udon Saigon, shrimp fried rice and an iced coffee. I forget what my wife got that she wanted to add chicken too, but my man was pretty funny about it. The man goes, "I'll add anything you want. I add money." That had the whole table laughing. Before that, I wasn't sure about his grasp of the English language because we had to keep repeating ourselves to the point my sister said he needed to wear his hearing aid. But he was pretty funny. When we added the egg rolls, he asked if we wanted to add chicken wings too since I was paying. He did forget my iced coffee though. When they told him, he tried to spy on our table to look for evidence of an iced coffee. When he saw me watching, he asked if we needed anything. I guess he was sure he gave it to us. The coffee itself was OK. They're pre-made in the fridge, they just add ice from the looks of it. I was mostly after the caffeine. Everyone loved their food and we would leave with stuffed bellies. The owner and I would have another funny exchange before we left. I asked for to-go containers. He asked if I needed one for the soup, too which I declined. I came here on a Saturday night after walking the marina with my husband and it was packed inside and out with consistent take out orders and guests eating there. We sat in a little corner and had a great meal. I got the vermicelli bowl with pork and egg roll and my husband got the bun bo hue. We also got a spring roll appetizer and it was super fresh. I love how they didn't add bean sprouts in the spring roll because it makes it taste "unwashed" to me. I liked my vermicelli bowl a lot since the veggies were fresh and clean and their fish sauce had lots of flavor. My husband said his bun bo hue was ok but his favorite spot in Oakland. Ambiance was clean and neat with inside and outside seating. There is a parking lot with plenty of parking in the front. I typically order a combination pho or bun bo hue, egg rolls or spring rolls, and always a thai iced tea. Hands down one of the best thai iced teas I've ever had! The broth is always flavorful with great quality meat and vegetables. And the rolls are the perfect appetizer every time. The owner is friendly and welcoming each time we eat at the restaurant. I liked that it looked like a mom and pop type restaurant, which I like to support. There's another popular place close by, but since their 2022 lawsuit was brought to light, I can't seem to support knowing. Saigon House seemed decent and thought I give them a try. Placed my order on Yelp and it was quick! They didn't mess around and were extremely efficient. I was able to view live updates, which helped a lot. I ordered pho steak and beef meatballs and vermicelli bowl with bbq pork and eggroll. It was delivered with care, packaged nicely, and well before the allotted time. The receiver was happy to get lunch and dinner surprise. They have it a 5 star all around. Next time I'm in the Bay Area, I will no doubt dint here and will order delivery from them again! read more

Saigon House is also a great place to cater food if you're having a party -- they offer party trays of their most popular items like banh mi, nem noung rolls, chicken wings, etc. Every time I've ordered catering, it's always been a huge hit amongst my friends :) The Cha Gio (egg rolls) & Fried Shrimp Rolls are really good. They're super crispy and the filling in the egg roll is really good. They also use a pretty big shrimp for the shrimp rolls. The Nem Nuong rolls are my favorite things on the menu. The nem nuong is sweet, savory, and fatty. The pickled radish and carrots and veggies balance out the meat; and the best part is the fried wonton wrapper inside -- gives it such a nice crunch. The peanut hoison sauce is also really good too. The pho here is nice an comforting -- broth is flavorful and hearty. Great to get a bowl when I'm missing home or too lazy to make it myself. Like much of San Leandro/San Lorenzo, this restaurant is unassuming. They've got a pretty extensive menu which we've only started to explore but can vouch for introductory Vietnamese dishes: pho, banh mi, vermicelli bowls. We've mixed and matched proteins and our favorite combos are the beef pho, pork banh mi, and chicken vermicelli bowls. Best of all - it's right next to a great ice cream spot if you're craving something sweet. read more
