I've been here a few times hoping each visit would be better, but I've had some ongoing issues. My online orders are often not ready when I arrive, which leads to extra waiting. During one visit I noticed kitchen staff preparing food without gloves on, and on my most recent dine-in visit, employee conversations were loud enough to be heard throughout the restaurant, even though it wasn't very busy. The coffee is quite strong with a lot of ice and the food portion sizes are good. Came in around 10:35 am--one of the earliest lunches I've ever had. I was surprised to see a couple of other tables already eating/waiting and it made me excited to eat. I went in knowing I would get the bun Bo hue. Their noodle portion is on the smaller side and meat was so generous! The broth is good as well but not as spicy and lemongrass-y as I tend to like. I wish they had a BBH sate on the side as well as some shrimp paste for me to adjust. I tried to dip some of the meats in their sweet nuoc mam sauce with garlic but it wasn't for me. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I showed up an hour before the restaurant closed but they seated us quickly and the food didn't take too long to arrive either. This was my first time at Saigon 88 and their chicken dishes have to be easily the best in their area or maybe even in Sacramento. The chicken pho was so delicious. I only added the chili oil and fresh herbs because the broth was flavorful to me. My boyfriend grabbed the chicken noodle soup also with rice stick instead and personally, that would have to be my go-to the next time I come here. The rice stick noodles were so tender even at the end of the day. Plus, their fish sauce dip was perfect paired alongside the chicken. Okay, I drove there to place an order of Bun Bo Hue. Paid. Waited 30 mins. Checked with the cashier if my order was ready. He said "We are out of Bun Bo Hue noodles. We can change it to Pho noodles." Wtf lol. I couldn't believe what I just heard, so I asked "What are my options?". He said "We can refund you. Or we have Pho noodles only. The kitchen just told me." Why didn't you let me know sooner? I guess it's Sunday at 7 pm, and they closed at 8 pm. So they didn't want to bother to boil more BBH noodles. Does anyone want to eat BBH with Pho noodles? The food portions here are very generous. My girlfriend got the Bun Bo Hue and I got the Chicken Pho. They do not skimp out on the meat here! The broth was rich but also light at the same time for the Chicken Pho. The side sweet nuoc mam sauce they provide at each table can make the broth overwhelmingly sweet with a few scoops, so be careful with how much you add in. Solid option for Vietnamese chicken specialty dishes (Hainan Chicken Rice & Pho Gà) and spicy beef noodle (Bun Bo Hue). My husband is a bit of a BBH snob and gives the BBH at Saigon 88 a 4/5 in comparison to all the other places he's tried BBH in the Sacramento area. The chicken rice is really tasty. We did have to order some extra chicken to finish off the generous portion of rice they gave us. Service is fast, attentive and friendly. Clean and inviting interior. They played chill, modern Vietnamese music in the background at the perfect volume. It's a bit of a trek for us to get out to this part of town but we'd make a trip back if we're craving these three dishes. read more

Came here for a birthday dinner. We tried the chicken salad, Hainan chicken plate (#10), pho, and the beef carpacchio. Everything tasted fine but nothing was standout. The flavors of the dipping sauce and dressing were a bit off, almost too acidic, for my tastes and the carpacchio was cut too thick for my preference. I wouldn't return unless I wanted chicken pho. The chicken in their Hainan Chicken Rice is below average. The chicken meat feels stale and tasteless! I can't eat it without the dipping sauces with the order. The Hainan Chicken Rice comes with seven or eight pieces of chicken, less than their competitors. But I'm glad it is less chicken because of the quality of the chicken! The rice comes with the Hainan Chicken Rice, which was okay. It is not the best rice like those in the Bay Area or Los Angeles. But at least it is the same as the other restaurants in the Sacramento area. They don't have a chicken soup that comes with the Hainan Chicken Rice as the other restaurants. It was an obvious hit with everyone. The menu is simple but I think that just means they dedicated time in perfecting their craft. The chicken is cooked and served with a sweet fish sauce, ginger scallion sauce, pickled chilis and pepper. You can choose for it to be served with rice plus broth or soup noodles. Added bonus for some of the lazy eaters out there- you can choose bone in or boneless chicken. Service was friendly, great and attentive. Food came out pretty fast. The food is always great but the service was not so great on our last visit. The waitress that served us, Jennifer, was blatantly bad mouthing her other co worker in front of us to a customer and talking about how the co worker was unable to count money in the cashier. She was also talking about how a different pho restaurant, sit lo, were receiving holiday pay and they were not receiving it. As a business, bad mouthing you're other co workers or other restaurants in front of customers is unprofessional and very rude. It left a very bad impression on who the business chooses to hire. Considering they're still in their Soft Opening period, I gave them benefit of a doubt. However, there several things that can be improved. It seems like they haven't gotten many things figured out. Food: we ordered Pho ga, Mien Ga, and Chao Ga. Pho was okay. Mien and Chao were more on the salty side instead of the fragrant taste you normally get from good Chao. The Chao portion was huge though and could easily feed 2 people. The salad was not flavorful. Also we came at 11:30am and somehow they only had ONE portion of Chao left. Overall, the food was not impressive. Hopefully they can improve! Service: one of our servers had no idea what the items on the menu included, and was about to charge us extra for condiments. Another server had to correct it for us. Once again, still their soft opening so I get it. But this is more unprepared than mistakes. Overall, I hope they improve. When they serve veggies, they bring us a plate with few vegetables, and that's it. We had to ask for some more veggies several times, which I felt they were not professional at all. The best part is when we pay. She did not give us a bill, just a total amount, and told us there is a soft opening discount, so we did not care much and paid and added tip. We asked for a printed receipt, but they never gave us one, so we had to ask for it when we were about to leave. We checked the receipt and realized that they included the 20% gratuity already without telling us, so we felt scammed. We won't be coming back. The food itself is about 3 stars. They only serve chicken, so I think this is a disappointment. They serve chicken on a small plate, and trust me when I say it's worth $5. It was like 5 pieces of small white chicken, not dark and not tasty. The broth was good, and I would rate it 3.5 stars to save the chicken plates. We stopped by Saigon 88 to check out their for and it did not disappoint. I didn't get to snap a photo (the youngest had my phone) #1 Pho Ga - The soup was tasty and lots of green onions that I love (if you're not a fan be sure to request light green onions or on the side). Opted for bone-in for the chicken. The chicken was side a side dish instead of in the soup which I really like. The dish also came with the ginger scallion dipping sauce and this sauce other sauce that reminds me of egg roll dipping sauce but it was really good. My kids of course only ate the noodles but they gobbled it up. There's so much soup left, I packed it up and had noodles for dinner. #2 Pho Ga Dac Biet - The hubs ordered this and from the looks it's very similar to the #1. My assumption is he liked it bc he had less soup left lol. #10 - Hainan chicken with rice. The rice was flavorful and that ginger scallion dipping sauce was delicious. The dish came with a side of broth I packed up since we didn't drink out of it. I've been craving their chicken egg noodle ever since I first tried it a few months back and it was just as good as I remembered. They no longer give the 3 sauce plate but have containers of the sauce at each table. You have to ask the server for the ginger scallion sauce and they give you a hefty amount. We immediately noticed a staff member wearing a Sit Lo Saigon shirt and the chairs and bowls were very similar, so we were thinking they probably have the same owners. I ordered the #1and husband ordered #2, we both enjoyed the broth and they had a nice portion of chicken, but we both thought the noodle portion was lacking. We came by during the Saturday lunch hour and it was busy, waited about 35 min for a table and another 10-15 min for the food. The chicken is succulent, the rice is sweet, the sauces are savory. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. This is my second time here, the first time I had their signature Phö, which was delicious. This time I had their chicken and rice platter, 10/10.
