I like going to the store because it is always clean and has a good selection. However, the prices are much more expensive than other grocery stores. For instance, for Safeway brand butter, it is $2 more expensive than Whole Food's butter. You know the prices are too high if the prices are higher than Whole Foods! read more

love, love, love, this safeway! it reminds me of being back in la. it's a cross between a ralphs fresh fare and a whole foods. the way it's set up is very esthetically pleasing. they have everything there! they even have a FHB "das MY bank" for easy access. the architechture of the whole strip mall is very "mainland" style and if i'm correct it was a mainland architect who designed it. the deli is very good and salad bar. the food always looks fresh, but the other day my lettuce looked a bit dry. they even had the same mini blueberry muffins i used to buy at trader joes there! that got me really excited!!! the prices are the same, but still competitive. (walmart still cheaper) just look for sales and be sure to get a safeway club card. that always helps! also i'm always reluctant, but so far the "safeway" brands are really good. i bought several different dressings and some cereal. all very good! and one more cool thing about this safeway is the thundering when the little sprinklers go off to keep the veggies fresh. i think even saw lightning! i swear! JK all in all i love this safeway because it's new and sometimes i have to admitt i do miss la. i think the haoles love it for the same reason. any locals that don't like it because they don't like change and don't want to be another big city, but we are already there! sorry! read more

It's been awhile since i've been here, but I do know one thing nobody's yelped about yet - there's no 7days/wk FHB in-store branch hours anymore. They're now closed sundays. I do love the huge selection of groceries and the hot soup bar. When they first opened this store, they offered free wifi in the lounge area but then started running into more and more trouble with wifi-moochers: HS/college kids hanging out for hours and hours studying and working on laptops w/o buying anything. There was even some dude who'd carry in an entire DESKTOP computer (not a laptop), complete with old-fashioned big CRT monitor (not flatscreen) and set up shop on one entire table, just for himself. So safeway finally turned off the wifi for awhile. But...apparently its now back on. read more

Grocery stores rock. We went here after having lunch at Ono's and stocked up on bottled water, snacks for the road and cereal. Come here for those items you regularyly consume. About two miles from Waikiki's waterfront. read more

Continue to have bad service. Waited 30 minutes in express line with 4 customer in front of me. Have 15 registers available but only 3 cashiers during rush hour, which makes the line gets half way into the aisle. Food court people attempt to avoid eye contact for 8 minutes before acknowledging me when I am the only one in front of the counter. Not sure if getting worse but definitely not better. read more

It's a big store with almost everything!! It's pretty overwhelming but nice to know where you can find anything easy. Some of the staffs there knows ASL and it was nice and they are always considerate. FHB- First Hawaiian Bank is no longer there as it's kinda sad to not see it anymore. I don't go to this store much but I come here for thanksgiving food shopping because it is a good deal if you buy $100 or more worth of the food and you get a free turkey! If you cannot afford $100 then you buy $50 worth of food and get a real good deal of .59 cents per pound of turkey! But tonight, I got a free turkey with 20 lbs of ham, potatoes, veggies, stuffing, and so much more. :) read more

This store has 16 register stations available for checkout, but will never have more than five open at the time. They do a feature a self checkout station-but it only has four computers. This store should seriously consider converting more of the abandoned register stations into actual working self check out stations. read more

Worst deli ever!!! Don't ever go there expecting service to be done in a timely manner. Expect a custom sandwich to take over 30 minutes to make!!! Couldn't wait and went to grab a pre-made sandwich and they were out!!! read more

One of the nicest supermarkets I have ever seen, including those throughout the U.S. Mainland and Europe. Prices appear to be high, even by Hawaii standards, but because of its proximity to the tourist mecca of Waikiki, I guess that's fitting. A huge selection of hard-to-find items, a spectacular cheese section, and so much more. May become a great place to simply hook-up (in more ways than one) to its wireless hot spot and of course to do some world-class people watching... read more

I purchased hot food from the buffet: Shrimp purses, orange and sesame chicken. Taste horrible like cardboard! Shrimp Purses didn't have any shrimp in them, all filler. WORST PART: A scab outside named Wayne walked up to me and pretty much grabbed my food, ate it, then asked me to buy him a chicken dinner at the Korean BBQ next door! ROTTEN VALUE OVER PRICED SCABS OUTSIDE WANT TO EAT YOUR FOOD! Your better off going to Genki, Jack in the box, and other places near Safeway! read more

Love the sandwich counter over at the prepared meals side of the store. Elizabeth has been mine and all my friends and family members favorite when it comes to making us food. She's basically apart of the family since we see her every time before one of our parties. Very cheerful and helpful. I come to this location for the convenience and her quality service for the past four years. Look for her if you want that personal experience that will get you in and out fast and happy. Everyone else will take twice as long and care half as much! read more

Inside looks like a High-end grocery store it practically has almost everything from an instore Starbucks, sushi bar, salad bar and serves gelato ice cream oh and if you like fresh baked bagels they have it available daily! Use your Safeway club card and you can get a dozen bagels for $4.99 and they are pretty big :) read more

Service sliding downhill from when it opened. Deli staff look demoralized and argue to contradict their own obvious signage. Like most safeways here they are content to let people wait in long lines during busy periods rather than opening additional registers and several self checkout lines broken. Hot deli bar looked like it had been sitting unreplenishedfor hours with sad food picked over and rock hard mashed potatoes (@7pm). If you want Safeway go to Manoa instead. I'll stick with foodland. read more

I actually really like this store. The selection is great and the place is clean and new. What i didn't like about this place was the Butcher that was feeding a family of six one toothpick of poke at a time. I waited about ten minutes to see if they were going to get full but no luck so I moved on without the spicy ahi poke. :( read more

Safeway Manoa is my "home" Safeway but this one is where I go if I need one or two items and I'm on my way home from work. I did come on their opening week because my aunty dragged me... and holy moly, it was a zoo. It still is a zoo and check out lines take FOREVER even if there's like half the registers open. You would think they would open more registers during peak hours like I think Foodland does but I think they're complacent where they're at and they love to have workers milling about. So their service isn't as good as Manoa Safeway and it seems Manoa Safeway is more willing to open up registers if people have been waiting. However Kapahulu Safeway's bakery rocks... they're all about helping you out and slicing bread and whatnot. Every single time I've come here they're PACKED. No matter what time or what day. It's impossible to find parking. So it makes sense that when the sale comes out, it's hard to find the things on sale because they've already sold out! They do have a bigger selection of stuff than most Safeways but that doesn't make me like it better. I struggle to find parking in that complext and it's crazy in the store when I try to look for things I want. Oh heaven forbid you want a shopping cart when you need one! However, I do enjoy that their restrooms are clean and they have a lounging/eating area. I like it but I wish that everyone else didn't like it as much... read more

Has a great selection of things, like local Hawaiian fruits, and also has a sushi bar. Everything's on the pricier side compared to other grocery stores, however. read more

Everything is expensive in Hawaii, even the grocery store. If you are lucky enough to have a kitchen though you will save a lot of money by going to the store and making some of your meals in your room. This Safeway is one of the nicer ones I've seen. Great selection, helpful staff and convenient location. read more

Went to Safeway to get dessert and ended up getting some good poke too. The people in both departments.were.very helpful and friendly. Prices for other things are a bit high. read more

I love their salad bar!!! $7.99/lb is not bad when it comes to healthy food and also you can mix it up with the hot items like Chinese food, or chicken wings etc. to make it more satisfying. read more

At one time, this was my favorite Safeway. In addition to ground level parking, there is ample rooftop parking as well! My favorite feature was when they had the First Hawaiian Bank located within that was even open late on Saturdays! While it was there, this was perfect for making last minute payments in person. Even though the bank is now gone, the floral selection is still top notch. read more

we bought some groceries here so we could have food in our rooms while on vacation. It's just a safeway. I tried to buy flowers but when I got to the flower booth, both ladies were gone. I asked someone if I could get flowers and they told me they'd get help. then another person came out and said they couldn't help me as the ladies went home. When I got to the cashier line, where my family was still checking out, they said they would call someone over to help me. So back to the booth. Some guy helped me and it was clear that he didnt work in that area, but he tried his best, which I was happy about. Then he had to send me over back to the cashier area to check out. It seemed to be too much work to just get some nice flowers. For real. read more

Hey tourists, buy your stuff here when you arrive. Very nice clean store, a lot of options. Recommend having a beer at a bar first so it will soften the prices that you are about to see. Best price on liquor short of Costco. There are a lot of sales N just like on mainland. Items run about 20-25% higher than mainland- and for some reason as always the healthy items are the most expensive. I get the dairy and eggs being pricy, shipping weight, but a pre mix salad bag is $7. It weighs 2oz? Anyway, drink more and eat healthy when you get home. read more

Great Safeway fairly close to Waikiki. Within walking distance (about 25 mins one way from Duke statue) or if driving there is plenty of parking (tip: park on the roof if visiting during peak times, it's way faster than trying to find a spot in front). Really good selection and reasonable prices. read more

this is the nicest Safeway I have ever stepped foot in. The architecture of the building and neighboring stores reminds me of California...looks like safeway took a hint from WholeFoods with the concept ordering/eating inside the store and the different kiosk food sections. The sushi bar was closed when I was here at 10am but it looked nice when I walked by. And there is plenty of parking spaces outside!!!! read more

The best grocery store not named Whole Foods. Not as crowded as other supermarkets. Until I can someday afford organic...this is my supermarket of choice. read more

This Safeway is one of the better grocers on island. Complete with a nut bar. They have free wifi. A huge deli section. Bakery and hot food. It's close to where I live and it's one of my regular places to buy groceries. read more

This is by far the cleanest, newest, and nicest super market on the entire island. This Safeway is huge. Although I do like all the normal things that supermarkets have what I really enjoy about this Safeway is that they have a big sushi and deli counter that you can actually sit at. The place is kept clean and the staff is helpful. The only downside that for some reason it seems like I always forget is that they have a computer change over at around 10:30pm and all the computers are turned over because they are open 24 hours a day. If you happen to go then you will have to wait in line for a bit while everything is rebooted. Overall though I really like the location and if you cant find parking outside there is always parking on the roof. read more

My family loves the poke here. They think it's the best they've had on Oahu and have tried over a handful of places for poke. They also have pretty good musubi and cut roll sushi. Rainbow rolls etc. read more

This is my main stop for groceries since it is close and has deals as well as a wide variety of organic selections with fair prices. However, customer service here has disappointed me, and I think my last straw is today when I was supposed to get 30 hydrocodone in my Prescription, and I only counted 20 when I got home to take my Medicine. Then when my son's father called to arrange to fix it, the pharmacy lady on the phone was extremely rude and totally acted guilty as she was assuming we were accusing her or her pharmacist coworker of taking them when we never said anything about that. We asked if they had pill counters and if they were ever wrong and asked if they had cameras over the people counting the medicine. I've had problems with cashiers and staff mouthing off and had to have it taken care of. The manager has always been polite and I have seen him walking around making sure everything is good. He has helped when we have had bad customer service. There is also a really nice cashier with a flower name. And also one if the sandwich ladies is really awesome too and the bakery ladies give my son cookies. She has been really nice when we go in. The little things people do can make a huge difference. A few times I have accidentally bought full price outdated food. I usually check but I have had to take back stuff. I love the variety of foods at this Safeway. There are many types of mochi ice cream, huge bakery with tons of tasty treats, good seafood, and a large produce. I eat mostly organic products and I don't want to spend too much like Whole Foods and Down To Earth. While they have yummy food, it can break your wallet! So Safeway is like the happy medium. I enjoy getting sushi and sandwiches when I'm in a rush and yay for the Starbucks inside because I like sipping on coffee while I shop and Max likes his hot chocolate. I think with just a little customer service work and making sure everything is up to date and not moldy then this store is perfect. read more

7/31 11:15am This review is for the floral dept. When i called to inquire about a certain type of flower the girl that answered was very helpful and knew right away how many they had on the floor. She patiently answered all my questions and was very polite. Great service! read more

I go to this Safeway because it's close to my house. I mostly only go on Friday's tho for $5.00 Fridays. I feel their prices are way not worth it at regular price. But I do like this location compared to other ones because this location has everything. Starbucks, BOH, deli, and mochi ice icream :) I have to say that their check-out lines need improvements. The lines are also ridiculously long and they don't open up any new ones. read more

Clean, easy parking, great quality items. what else could you possibly ask for?

Good selection, nice produce, and close to Waikiki.

Safeways in Hawaii are pretty good, and this is a nice one. Big and spacious with a good parking lot and CLEAN, I like this one. A bit of a walk from Waikiki, this is a place I will take time to go to whether or not I have a car just because Waikiki is a terrible place for groceries. I like their sandwich station -- and when you buy a sandwich you can add a soup for just 99 cents! Unfortunately some things here can be a bit pricey (which is why I still go to Palama or Don Quijote). Get the membership card. You need it. read more

is it just me ... or have i noticed how safeway on kapahulu is running out of energy ??? in two different instances and while running errands, i conveniently opted to grab and go sandwiches from their deli. what ??? the dali now days is in no place near what it used to look, be and much less offer in the past. am sorry !!! perhaps judgement took precedence over appetite. in no manner am i to discount/castigate genuine willingness to help by polite crew members. such overflowing and enormous pile of used paper and gloves had me unimpressed for a moment. counters didn't look as well maintain and the different wraps to what on display became an unambiguous sign of UNFRESH. sad !!! the reigns of outstanding attitude is simply evident. however, quality control and appearance is lacking. who knows, it may very well just be my sudden observation. read more

Why doesn't the deli ever have bologna!? Seriously though. So irritating. I find that when ever I go to this location they never have what I need. I wanted to make cajun Alfredo last week and the last item I needed to add to my cart was heavy cream, they didn't have it. I didn't end up buying anything. Please keep your shelves stocked! read more

Although I live very close to this Safeway I have avoided coming here for several reasons. There never seems to be enough cashiers which makes waiting in line frustrating when you've got to get to work. I gave in today because there was an item on sale I wanted.
