Service is slow and had to wait 20 minutes but she was very nice and comped us our bloody Mary's which changed the whole experience. Had an amazing birthday dinner here. Food was superb. Tried a total of seven different dishes (4 appetizers, 1 main, 2 desserts), and they all exceeded my expectations. I'll mention the two most notable dishes: gnocchi, exceptionally light and prepared with lamb sausage and fresh peas, and pork belly, served with peaches and perfectly tender without being fatty. The service was fantastic. Attentive, gracious, and fun. The decor was lovely too. The only concern was that the place was nearly empty. PEOPLE - YOU SHOULD GO HERE!! This is a hidden gem in the tri-Valley. The prices may seem slightly high for the area, but the food is clearly being made fresh with highest-quality ingredients that more than justify the prices. Why have I not been informed that Pleasanton had an amazing downtown with tons of cool restaurants? Luckily, we hit up the spot before COVID hit. The atmosphere at this stop is amazing. It's design is modern, yet comfortable. We scored a booth facing the bar, which is awesome because we can people watch (aka free entertainment)! The drinks were on point and most of the food was outstanding (nothing was subpar). But the biggest highlight for me was the free gazpacho amuse bouche. I had high hopes for this restaurant and it was a fail. I ordered veggie scramble? And the eggs smelled fishy. I've had organic eggs and farm fresh eggs before, none of which smelled. I almost threw up. The salad was a snore. No flavor but that's all I could eat. The only thing good was the coffee. Main problem was the waiter. He started off nice enough but he accidentally spilled hot sauce on my new dress and I let him know "you spilled hot sauce on my dress" and he said "not my fault" wth? I said "i didn't say it was". All he cared about was whose fault it's was. Granted my friend was talking with her hands, which caused him to spill, he had no apologies and only wanted to absolve himself from any fault. I guess he's used to customers blaming him. I just wanted soda water asap to salvage my dress. He could have said "my apologies. I couldn't help it". But noooo. A total turn off. My husband and I wanted to try something new to celebrate a special occasion and the Chef's Ten Course Tasting Menu did not disappoint! The multi-course menus change twice per season and our visit happened to fall on the last day of the Camellia (late winter/early spring) menu. We really enjoyed how each unique course highlighted seasonal and local ingredients and we were grateful that they could accommodate our dietary restrictions. Everything was comforting and delicious, but our favorites were the Sopa de Ajo, Piloncillo Glazed Pork Belly, Winter Chicory Salad, Cavatelli Al Cioccolato, CreamCo Meats Short Ribs, and Lemon Thyme Donuts. The Grilled Yellowfin Tuna and Smashed Avocado Toast, although tasty, were not *as* flavorful and impressive as their counterparts. As newbies to tasting menus, we were pleasantly surprised that there were technically 11 menu items when you included dessert and, unlike the 3 or 5 course menus, all of the items are preselected for you - so you just sit and enjoy! Service was warm, timely, and informative and the atmosphere was comfortable and lovely. First time having dinner here on a rainy Sunday. The restaurant is beautiful! Service was very attentive and welcoming. I ordered the three course meal and my husband ordered the five course meal and we chose different things so we can share and taste everything. The food is really good here! The pork belly appetizer is a must have...the pork belly is lightly fried on the outside and the inside is so juicy and soft that it just melts in your mouth. Other dishes that we loved were the pluot and tomato salad, the mushroom angnolotti, king salmon. The pork schnitzel, however, will be a pass for us. The desserts were good and the my lavender gin fizz cocktail was so good and beautiful! Will definitely come again and might bring the kids to try out the brunch menu. read more

Really, really wanted to love this place. I've had my eye on it for a while, and we finally decided to give it a go! We made reservations for 3. When we walked in, the guy at the counter was sooooo awkward that it made pretty much our whole experience just weird because he decided to be a part of several elements of our night. He found our reservation but told us that the table they put us down for was still occupied. Meanwhile there were several open tables in the restaurant he could have sat us at instead. He fumbled around very confused. Then another staff member walked over, I'm assuming because he saw what was going on. As the other staff member is standing there, the host grabs menus and says, "Okay, follow me." Well then, the other staff member walked away so the host put the menus down and again began fumbling around with the computer in a nervous attempt to figure out where in the world to sit us in this not currently busy restaurant. But wait...you just grabbed menus and we're going to walk us somewhere? We stood there for about six minutes when my cousin said, "Can we grab a drink at the bar while you figure this out?" He said yes, but kept awkwardly saying he'd come get us when a table was ready, over and over. We Sat at the bar and began talking to the bartender, who was super friendly and knowledgeable. We were looking over the menus when the host walked behind the bar and asked the bartender if he had a chance to get our orders yet. We were just a bit annoyed because we'd had enough of this guy at this point and all he was doing was making this part of our experience also weird. He took our drink orders and then just put a paper in front of the bartender asking him to make them. Why did you need to interject in this interaction as well? As he walked past us back to the door, he said as soon as we had drinks we'd get to sit down. For the sixth time. We get it. We got our drinks and he brought us to our table where, right when we sat down with our brand new cocktails, he asked us if we'd be ordering a bottle of wine with dinner. Uhhhh...I don't know, we just sat down and have drinks to drink already! Again, just awkward. Then, he tried to sit a couple between us and another party at a table with barely enough room to even squeeze into. Meanwhile, there are still many open tables. The couple asked him if they could sit at a different table and he did the whole nervous fumbling again before he let them sit at a different table. It was all so weird, and not at all how you want to have a pricey experience go. Our waiter was very nice. We decided to go with the three course meal, and the food was delicious. It was a shame that our experience was so severely impacted by the awkward host. Throughout dinner, we noticed many other things going on with this guy and other parties and it just felt like they needed to either train him more, or find better front door staff. He impacted several peoples experience. For $280, I would go somewhere else with my money where I know I'll get top notch service, all around. Sabio on Main's "bottomless" mimosas was the WORST I have ever experienced. The end. Okay, maybe it was just our server. But seriously... he refilled my glass maybe 3 times during my entire dining experience. And the restaurant was fairly empty! There were only a handful of other tables filled. You guys were not busy at all, could have been more attentive to bottomless brunchers. They were also like... 80% OJ, 20% bubbly. Step your game up guys. I was able to try the Dutch Baby Pancake (which was sweeter than I had imagined but still tasty), the Smoked Chicken Hash and the Veggie Scramble. The hash was decent with a blend of chicken, potatoes, and poblano peppers, a side of guac and topped with egg to your liking. I just has wished there was more chicken pieces in the dish. The food was fine. But not sure why it was recommended by Michelin. The skins on the tomatoes were rather tough - they are in season, so not sure why this would be the case. The foamy cheese on top was not great and the others in my party avoided the cheese. The mushroom with peas, red peppers and black beans didn't work for me - it seemed like a haphazard stew. Service was also pretty bad (never asked how we liked our food, was not asked how I wanted steak cooked, etc.). The drinks were good and the salad was good but not better than a Trader Joe's salad IMO. I ordered steak which they didn't even ask me how I'd like it cooked and it came out medium rare which was too raw for me and super chewy. Very disappointing. The Brussels sprouts had no sauce or seasoning and potatoes were regular fried potatoes you'd get with most breakfasts. The chicken on the other hand was amazing. Very juicy and the sauce and veggies complimented to flavors. When selecting the dessert I would not choose the donuts again. They were not very fluffy but dense, could not taste the tyme (or rosemary?). The chocolate dessert was better. Overall this was ok but did not meet my expectations and what I was hoping for with a 3 course meal. I would try another restaurant next time. read more

I was in the area for a work trip and trying to find a place that would be nice eat alone. I went here for their Happy hour menu which is Monday-Friday 4-6pm. I was craving for oysters and it was awesome to know they have $1 oysters during happy hour along with other items. Reading from reviews it seems their cauliflower and truffle cheese is very popular but I was more interested in the '24 Month Jamon Serrano & Manchego with Sesame Crostini'. I took a seat in the bar and ordered A half dozen oysters and the Jamon which was enough for me. The oysters were fresh and I wish I gotten more! Jamon was as expected and it also came with some mustard which was a nice complement for the crostini and Manchego. The atmosphere is very impressive. Very romantic to bring somewhere here for a first date or have a ladies night out. Parking in the area was easy, there are many 3 hour free parking areas on the Main Street. When I arrived at 430pm it was pretty empty but by the time I left at 5:30pm it was a bit busy and it was only a Monday! read more

We have been here a couple of times in the last few months. A few months ago, our experience was downright bad, but this most recent time, it was wonderful. Maybe they have things on the right track. Most recently, we celebrated our anniversary here. They patio is nice, but midway through our dinner, a Starbucks delivery truck parked in front of us and unloaded stuff for about 25 minutes. Not Sabio's fault, but one of the challenges with the patio bring right on the street with no "buffer" zone. We ordered cocktails. I had their special barrel aged Negroni, which had a weird minty taste. I asked them to make me a more traditional version, which they gladly took care of. The remake was much better and set our dinner off on the right track. Appetizers were good: we had the bread with butter and black salt and the gnocchi. Both were excellent. We also enjoyed the octopus salad with a perfectly poached egg on top--the octopus was grilled perfectly. The salmon crudo was just ok--the mango sauce was too sweet and overpowered the raw fish. The zucchini flowers were okay, but the wood ear mushrooms were a bit too chewy. The service in the past was been weak, but this latest time, it was on point. There were a few very good dishes and then there were others that just weren't good. Goods: - Brussels sprouts and Squash Salad! My friend who doesn't even like salads really liked it! - Glazed Pork Belly was AMAZING!! The texture was crispy on the top and soft and juicy in the middle. It was super flavorful with a hint of smokiness. I rave about this dish. - Cervena Venison Loin was cooked well and the gamey taste was not overpowering. Not Good: The Hamachi Toradito and Dungeness Crab Tagliatelle were both too sour. It felt like it was a waste of both the hamachi and dungeness crab because all we tasted was the citrus in it. First multi course meal I've had and it did not disappoint!! Every single dish was delicious, but my favorites hands down were the glazed pork belly and the Brussels sprout & butternut squash salad. My boyfriend really loved the scallops. The portions were big enough and I left feeling full and satisfied. The best part about this experience was the service from our waitress Sara. I had asked her a question about what was in the complimentary gazpacho since I had a seafood allergy. Then when I was tasting the leek soup with trout roe, she came up to me super quickly to warn me about the seafood in it. I clarified that I was only allergic to shellfish, but was so amazed by her attentiveness! She also brought over a candle in my dessert because it was my birthday and apologized profusely when it wouldn't stick onto the plate. She made the whole night more memorable. The flat iron steak was delicious and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The pork loin was amazingly flavorful and tender... maybe even a tiny bit better than the steak. We enjoyed the deviled eggs. We enjoyed the old fashioned cocktails. The cauliflower and the potato chips were just okay for me. The bread is a very small portion (for one) and they charge for it. Area itself is really nice and been meaning to explore more. My wife and I I opted for the 5 course. She got one set and I got the other so theoretically we had a 10 course anyway haha. The place itself is really nice and warm especially on a cold Friday night. Bar has a nice selection and place was packed. My wife and I were seated right away and while we waited we order some drinks. Waitress (Sara) was really nice and attentive to us. She apologized several times for the kitchen being backed up. We didn't mind and to be honest didn't even notice due to the nice atmosphere of the place. First course arrives and it's the oysters and the sopa de ajo came up. Oysters were also good and fresh. And chicory salad which was light and a great appetizer. Next was the pierogi and the pork belly toast. The Rogi was well made but I think the star of the course was the pork belly for obvious reasons. Now came the pasta dishes. In my opinion the chicharron was an interesting add on but the mushroom pasta was the winner, not too rich. Main dish now, which was the rib and the wild boar. The boar was a lil tough but great flavor on it. The rib was tender and well seasoned. Finally desert which was a nice ruby chocolate creme dish and nice airy donuts with a lemon custard. I think maybe the ruby chocolate was the winner here :) All in all great place to visit and you get a great meal :) read more

This is a great restaurant on Main Street in Downtown Pleasanton! I've been here once for brunch and three times for dinner. My first visit was soon after their opening. My most recent visit was this past Sunday for dinner with my family and parents. I have to admit that my first impression was just good around 4 stars. However, I feel that they have perfected some of their dishes over the years and I love their changing menu that highlights seasonal ingredients. We started with drinks and enjoyed a variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts. We shared everything so we could all have a taste of every dish-that's my favorite way to dine!! Drinks Dirty Cougar-citrusy vodka based drink is a fave. Pink Sapphire-gin based cocktail was ok. Chef's Gin&Tonic-light and refreshing. For the Table Charcuterie Platter-assortment of meats served with mustard, pickles and crostini. Sourdough Levain Bread-great bread and butter. My youngest could have eaten the entire loaf! Cauliflower with sambal-we always get this spicy, tasty cauliflower dish. Appetizers Tempura Squash Blossoms-delicate crispy fried blossoms filled with chèvre and served with oyster mushrooms. Gnocchi with Italian Sausage Sugo-this was delicious and I want more!! Pillowy soft gnocchi in a savory sausage ragu is a must try. Octopus terrine-I always order octopus when I see it on the menu. I love octopus and it's something I don't know how to prepare. This was really good because the octopus was very tender and I liked the slightly spicy vinaigrette. Albacore Tiradito-this was the only dish that was just ok for us. We love sushi and sashimi, but felt the sauce overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the albacore. Entrees Monterey Black Cod-delicious fish with crisped skin served with a sweet butternut squash purée and braised fennel. Jagerwurst Sausage-my husband loved this very flavorful sausage dish served with sauerkraut, apple, grits and a mustard sauce. Pumpkin Seed Pesto Cavatelli-I was surprised how much we all loved this pesto pasta dish. The pesto was so good and I liked the chunks of thick sliced eggplant. The pasta was perfectly al dente. Wagyu NY Strip Steak-this was a splurge, but my dad insisted since we were celebrating my birthday! It's pricey, but the steak was a generous cut around 18 oz!! I recommend the 3- or 5-course dinner so you can experience a variety of options. If you like to eat as much as I do (both quantity and variety), go for the 5-course! You will not be disappointed! Also, there is a plethora of mouth-watering cocktails to choose from! My favorite is the Chef's Gin & Tonic for several reasons! Came again for a birthday celebration group of 8 of us on a Saturday night. Had high hopes it would be as great as it was the previous visit, unfortunately, it was a big let down as the service was not good. I dont plan on returning. We did the pre fix meals. Started with drinks from the bar which were great but took a very long time. We were seated 45 long minutes before the waitress finally came to take our order. Most of us did the 5 courses so we knew it would be a long meal which is fine but the first course didn't arrive until we were seated for 90 minutes. No bread or anything was served while we waited patiently finally I asked for something to tie us over we got some potato chips which were comped and actually tasty. Once the courses started coming it went fairly smoothly except the wine paring was way off. The wine was poured but the course came like 15 minutes later so the tiny pours were finished you couldn't really pair, most of us had to order more drinks from the bar and wine. Most dishes were good some were excellent like the Halibut Tartare and the Summer Squash salad as well as the Lamb Sausage Gnocchi and Black Cod. Only misses were the Veloute/carrot soup and the cake for dessert was very dry. Would have been nice if they offered coffee but the wine paring meal did come with a 10 year old Tani Port which was decent. I give the food 3.5 to 4 stars, but service was a 2. We were the very last guests to leave the restaurant and the meal started at 7:15. We saw people come after us that left before us. The bill was well over $1,000 and of course they added their 20% tip which was not earned. Oh and no acknowledgment of the birthday, no candle or anything even though the occasion was requested in the reservation and so it was mentioned. An update after this was posted. Management reached out to me to work to try to make up for the experience. That says a lot about a restaurant and the owners and I appreciate that, hoping to return and give a more positive update, maybe it was just an off night. read more

We had the 5-course prix fixe. Overall it was a good time. The staff and setting were nice. All the normal hospitality stuff was fine, although one time they took our forks and didn't bring back new ones. The drinks are also good and strong, but no better than an upscale chain. The pricing in general was also very good, but that is to be expected in Pleasanton. They started with a foamy chilled soup in a shot glass. It was truly revolting, but luckily we had sparkling water. Maybe try some bread next time. It was free though, so no complaints. Next I had the Caldo Verde (aka soup). Very good, but not mind-shattering. It sort of reminded me of a creamy Miso soup with pork instead of tofu. Some of the best soup I have ever had. As Appatizer I had the mushroom tart. It was delicate, flaky, and flavorful, Still warm too. I think there was a little too much filling, but I was happy to have it. I had the oxtail pasta. It was great. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the oxtail was allowed to show its flavor. For entree, I had the cod. This was the best dish of the meal. It was perfectly cooked and velvet soft. Apparently, it was served with turnips, but they were pretty plain. The bowl for the ponzu was way too small so it was hard to dip the fish in, especially because it was so flaky I didn't want to lose any. If I was supposed to be pouring it, they should've poured it for me. I also had to squeeze a charred tangerine myself as well. There is obviously a way the chef wants it to be eaten, so please serve it to me that way. Overall, the best non-sushi fish I have ever had, all 3 square inches of it. For dessert, I had the donuts. The donuts were very tough and dense. Maybe they should contract out to Donut Wheel. They were like a mochi donut that had been squished. The coffee anglicise was excellent, however. Overall I was disappointed. As you may know, this is a Michelin "0-star" restaurant. I expected something special in every course, but it was mostly just good. Apart from the cod, nothing really left me thinking about it days later, and the fish itself was certainly doing some of the work. When they tried to be creative, like with the foam, it was a flop. It is really more of a three-and-a-half star place, but the food really was very good, just not as good as it should be. It is higher than a three. Maybe I am just disappointed the Tri-Valley cannot roll with the big boys in SF and Oakland. I have high hopes for the summer menu. read more

I shared a few tapas with my sister, including: -Caramelized cauliflower (could use a sauce on the side), -empanadas (I had Argentinian empanadas the night before, so it was tough competition) -grilled cheese with honey (I was intrigued by this, I've never had a grilled cheese with honey drizzled on top of the bread. I was here for a company dinner and there were ten of us. We had several different dishes and everyone seemed quite happy. I had skirt steak with creamed spinach, and it was so tender and portions were generous. I think the hit of the party were their lemon donuts for desert. I thought about them for days afterwards, and am eager to return to try other dishes. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with warm, woody colors. Very relaxing. I would give zero stars if was an available option. We had reservations for 4 for dinner on Saturday night. Just be sure that it was ok I called Sabio's and asked if it was OK to bring my own bottle of wine. I was told yes and that there was a $25 corkage charge. That seemed reasonable to me for the corkage charge. When we arrived at the restaurant at 5:02 for a 5:00 reservation the 1st thing that we were told was that we were late. When we looked around the restaurant there was only one other table that was occupied. When the bottle of wine was set on the table the waiter told us that because they sold the same wine that they could not open it with a corkage charge but I would have to pay there overstated price. I said to him that I was not ok with that and he came back with if we bought a bottle of their wine that they would open my wine for the $25 charge. I said that we only wanted one bottle of wine with dinner so could they just double or triple the corkage fee. He said no that it was against their policy. We picked up our stuff and went to another restaurant down the street and had a wonderful dinner including my wine. I now understand why the restaurant was empty and would not recommend it. read more

Had reservations at Sabio to celebrate our anniversary. This was our first time trying this place and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at our window table and found a card wishing us a 'happy anniversary'. We tried the rustic Bread, Soft Shell Crab appetizer, Pork Chop and Branzino. Topped it off with the Chocolate Panna Cotta and PB&J Doughnuts. The food and service were excellent! Had a great time with my sister in law. I forgot to take pictures of our drinks, but she had the Crazy Cougar and I had the Old Fashioned. Both cocktails were solid! We mostly shared small plates. The truffled grilled cheese and the deviled eggs were amazing. Looking forward to coming back to dive into some of those bigger entrees!!! read more

Impressive food quality and presentation. Just enough portions on the three course prix fix menu. We enjoyed ordering different things to try the other items, and each was excellent. Wonderfully sweet Brentwood corn soup and tangy, dill-packed cucumber salad. Amazing trout over a delicate oil-based sauce. Plenty of wine and drink choices both local and international. We have wanted to try Sabio's for some time! So I "Winos and Foodies" dinner group finally decided to go!!!!! We were not disappointed at all, clearly impressed with the service, MARK WAS AMAZING, knowledgeable, patient, his infectious laughter and warm personality added to the evening's experience. We ordered the deviled eggs to share, they were so fantastic, my husband and I ordered seconds! Several of our group ordered the sun choke soup! The presentation and flavor were delectable, could have been hotter! Our table tried three different entrees, the pork chop with grits, juicy, tender, and great flavor! Two of our friends order the butternut ravioli, heavenly, rich and perfectly seasoned. My husband ordered the chicken, when it arrived it looked a little dry! I was SO WRONG! The chicken was melt in your mouth delicious! The sauce served with it was spicy and a unique blend of flavors. Now the OMG MOMENT, dessert! Warm, fluffy lemon, thyme donuts! Epic!
