I have a go-to sushi spot close to home but decided to venture out and try a new place. I made reservations for 7:30pm on a Saturday night and upon arrival there were two other parties who also had the same time booked. Despite arriving before them, they were seated before me. Made a reservation here for my wife's birthday dinner and Ryujin did not disappoint! Ryujin actually has some of the best quality fish in the area hands down. The service was overwhelmingly excellent even with the whole restaurant packed and plenty more customers waiting. Ryujin is beautifully lit up and the bright ambience and decore makes the restaurant look much bigger than it actually is. Onto the food!!! We started out with Live Scallop special and it was delicious albeit a little small for the price. They did put multiple parts of the scallop both in sashimi form and in the salad on the side. Excellent however not sure if its worth $21 as its essentially only one piece of scallop sliced thin. The special rolls were all good, my favorite being the Hanky Panky roll since the fish was seared. The Uni and Ikura Sushi was delicious. PRO TIP: Take half the Ikura and swap it with half the Uni. The combination is so good and wildly popular in Japan!!! The Tokyo Set (Chef's Choice) featured really great premium quality fish. The Uni here was different from the one ordered ala carte and was even better and their A5 Wagyu Sushi was really good. The Ryujin Tuna set was great as it served both regular tuna cuts, toro and a slice of tuna tataki. All in all we're super happy we tried this place out. They have lots of affordable options along with their premium sushi/sashimi. Definitely try their premium cuts!!! You will not regret it!! I'd def recommend getting a reservation on the weekends. We came at 5pm on a sunday, by the time we left which was around 6:30pm, the place was packed and people were waiting both inside and outside. The food was delicious! Honestly surprised they had such high quality fish. The tokyo omakase set was very good for its price point. It came with edamame and a miso soup. The ryujin tuna was amazing! The tuna was really fresh and high quality. We got rolls as well and added uni and ikura sushi. The uni that came with the tokyo set was much higher quality than the sushi portion. But both were equally delicious. The restaurant itself is spacious and clean and they refilled water/tea pretty often. Would definitely come back, maybe next time we'll try out their lunch specials! You get a huge amount and a great variety of food for pre-2020 prices! If you're not getting the lunch special, then the rolls are a little pricey. I feel ashamed that I'm just getting to review Ryujin now. I discovered this place in winter 2021 and was immediately blown away by the quality of their ingredients and the care in preparation. I've probable eaten here 30+ times since (including delivery). Although they make some decent fried rolls served with spicy mayo, the real gems lie in the simpler preparations that allow the ingredients to shine (I'm tempted to say authentic but I've never been to Japan so I'm no authority). Their sashimi will give restaurants 3x the price a run for their money (and outright beat them if you're in an area not known for high quality seafood.). The chefs also express their creativity while remaining tastefully restrained in the omakase (I think the Osaka with toppings is what I typically get). Some of these flavors combos will absolutely leave you speechless. You MUST try the warm tossed noodles as a side. They're just perfectly seasoned simple noodles that my friends and I just cannot go a meal without ordering. read more

Went for sushi on an awfully hot, humid day. This place inside is cool and light and airy, already setting the stage for the food to come. I'd never have come here without our local friends' recommendation, because it's just a small place in a strip mall! Four of us decided to share 3 appetizers. We had the kani salad, the seaweed salad, and the edamame. The kani was different from others I've tried (& not liked much); the crabmeat (probably, possibly, it could have been surimi) wasn't overpowered with mayonnaise but had what the menu called a sweet onion dressing that was good and made it a lighter dish. The seaweed salad and the edamame were exactly what we expected and tasted fresh and delicious. Each couple shared the sushi/sashimi platter. Any other day, I could eat that all by myself, but a.we had those appetizers and b.somehow we weren't so hungry, I guess due to the heat. So it comes with soup or salad, and we each chose to share the salad (could have ordered an extra one or a soup, but again, we weren't very very hungry). This is a fairly new sushi spot in BW they took over the space of a previous sushi spot. They definitely gave this place a makeover that's for sure . It's a BYOB which is nice and they have several large tables but you definitely want to make a reservations if you want to guarantee a table especially on the weekends. Now also keep in mind they close for a while in between lunch and dinner for a few hours so check the site . The staff was super friendly and very attentive. They have 4 or 5 sushi chefs going and they can get those orders out quickly. They spaced dishes out nicely Just as you were about to have the last bite the next dish was already on the table. I truly enjoyed everything I ate the freshness and the simple flavors meshed so well. The were presented to the table nicely plated. I definitely recommend everything . The yellowtail jalapeño so delicious it just melts in your mouth. We tried fresh live scallops which I had never eaten a raw scallop but it was delicious very light and fresh . We also had the Tuna Tataki which was equally delicious with the sauce they place over each piece. The octopus salad was simply plated with fresh cherry tomatoes, cucumbers drizzled with a simple sauce. For our main dish I tried the Chirashi ( omg so good) it was an chef selection of sashimi over season sushi rice. Definitely a must have!! We visited for the first time on a Friday night and called in the afternoon for a reservation; we were only able to get a reservation at 7:45pm. Even when we arrived, we had to wait another 15-20minutes for a table. The food is definitely overpriced, but the restaurant is very nicely renovated. Service was a bit slow, but understandable for a busy packed night. We ordered several pieces of sashimi as well as the special hokey pokey roll. We also ordered the spicy dumpling soup and sashimi pizza. Everything was good! But we highly recommend the hokey pokey roll!! The sides were very good too. A really pleasant surprise recommended by our hotel bartender! Sushi restaurant recommendations are very dependent on whether the person making the suggestion is adventurous. First, I'm glad we made a reservation because the place was hopping on a Tuesday evening. Second, I wished we had brought our own beverage (it is BYOB). We ordered the Avocado Salad, Hanky Panky and I added on chu toro and yellowtail sashimi. We finished with Miso soup. The Avocado salad was fresh and tasty. The Hanky Panky was a bit too Americanized for my liking. It was OK but not the fabulous item our bartender praised. The sashimi was only one piece per order and it was just OK. I expect chu toro to almost melt in your mouth and this one piece did not do that. The miso soup was good but a little skimpy on the tofu and greens. Service was efficient and friendly and the ambiance is very nice. I'd go back if I lived in the area and might even go out of my way but I'd try some of the other dishes on the extensive menu. read more

There are not enough good things to say about Ryujin. I've been to some top quality places, Nobu, Morimoto's, Azumi, Sushi Nakawaza; Ryujin is right there with them in the quality, care, and love they put behind their dishes. Have been here about 4 times now. At the end of the last lunch I had I was blown away watching them pull out 4 whole tunas and start breaking them down. Akami, chūtoro, and otoro all separated by loin. The rib meat is meticulously scraped out with a spoon and for their spicy rolls. One of their specials, Japanese needlefish, I watched our chef pull pin bones for a good 10-15 minutes from the whole fish filet. I asked their head chef, do you break down all your fish from whole, the answer was yes. In such a small unassuming strip mall this place would rival some of the best quality sushi I've had on the east coast. Do yourself a favor and go to this place. They could charge double and it would still be a deal compared to the places I mentioned. I see some low review marks noted and then you see the times they booked, 7pm on a Saturday, yeah guess what, they're slammed. Their food is amazing. Try and go at an off time, sit at the bar and talk to the chefs. These guys really care about the product they serve and it takes more time to come out but so worth it. read more
