We ate here last Sunday, party of 3. The dining room I spacious, tables not close together. Overall, everyone's diner was ver good. For apps, we got Spring rolls, which were very crispy and good with a nice dipping sauce. I would have preferred the sauce to be more spicy, but others like it mild so no complaints there. We also got just a house salad which was easily large enough for 2 people, with a large amount of the typical carrot-ginger orange dressing. The dressing had good flavor, but a little watery at the bottom of the salad. Also ordered an app called Dynamite, which is a baked round of chopped mushrooms, scallop, crab with some kind of white sauce in it. The cream in the sauce overwhelmed the seafood flavors so I could not detect any scallop and there was only a small amount of crab. My least favorite dish of the meal. For entree we had the Thai Crispy Red Snapper, the Mango Chicken, and the Firework Roll. All of these were nearly perfect in texture, flavor and served hot and fresh. The red snapper was coated, fried perfectly, crispy on outside, tender on inside, with a flavorful dipping sauce. Would recommend for sure. The Mango Chicken was a typical preparation,breaded and fried chicken chunks with veggies tossed and n a sticky sweet sauce and served over rice. The coating was not too thick, so they avoided the dense and bready texture that other places get on their sweet and sour fried dishes. The rice was done well also. The other entree was the large specialty sushi roll called Firework. It was black pepper tuna and asparagus tempura,rolled with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, eel, crunchies and tobiko. It was delicious! It was a $19 roll, but generously portioned, so worth it. The service was friendly with the right amount of attention. The place appears very clean. After eating here, within an hour, I had the worst stomach cramps. Let's just say, it's a good thing that I was at my house and close to a bathroom for 2 hours. I didn't even bother calling the restaurant to complain because I read other reviews that they refuse to be accountable when other people have gotten sick from the sushi. I've been eating here for years so I didn't read the recent Yelp reviews. Clearly, that was a big mistake as the quality has certainly gone down but not the prices. I think this place is pretty good. It has an eclectic mix of japanese, chinese and thai food. I've only tried the sushi and chicken pad thai but everything I have had was pretty spot on! The decor is nice. If I was to have any suggestion it would be to add wonton soup to the menu. read more

Like their outside seating for covid, but the staffs are not very welcoming. I don't feel like they want us to come back. The dinner entree doesn't come with miso or salad like most Japanese or fusion restaurants. For the price, I would prefer to go somewhere else. My boyfriend ordered Thai fried squid and rock shrimp as an appetizer. The squid was very good and we would get it again. The rock shrimp was good but heavy (very thick batter on the shrimp). We wouldn't get this again. For the main dish, my boyfriend got soft shell tempura crab roll. It was very good and he said he would get it again. He also got a shrimp tempura roll. If you are trying to decide which one of these to order, he said the soft shell tempura crab roll was best. My boyfriend said he had a slight stomachache, but I have a feeling this is due to the fact he ordered all fried food lol. I ordered a salmon avocado roll and a spicy salmon roll. Both were good. I'd get the salmon avocado roll again. The salmon in the spicy salmon roll was a little dry, but it was very good anyway so who cares. Overall a pleasant experience and we would go again. read more

They are nice and respectful and it's always extremely clean. TRIED to give them one more chance. Unfortunately I can say I will never be back at this place. I arrived at 1 pm with my mom- meaning it was LUNCHTIME. I got the bill and they charge my mom and I with the dinner portion price. When we alerted the waitress about the pricing on the bill, the waitress huffed and puffed that it was a bigger portion. We told her we had the menu opened to LUNCH and would not have thought we needed to tell her that we wanted to LUNCH portion AT LUNCH time. We also have frequented there enough that we never had these issues in the past. The attitude of these people at the place has gone down too much. I've been meaning to come to AIKOU for sometime now. This is one of Warren's sushi restaurants in the center of town. I came here to have dinner and meet some friends. I was pleasantly surprised upon entering. I noticed a waiting area with couches and a counter for check-in. A hostess promptly seated me while I waited for friends. It was during the week and after 7p so there was no problem with seating. The decor was clean and modern with dark wood tables and light walls with dim blue lights. At the far end of the dining room is a long sushi bar with seating and tables all around. My waitress came over and I ordered hot green tea and water. AIKOU is a BYOB restaurant. In the far end of the parking lot 2 minutes away by the DD is a liquor store named Wine Central. For starters I ordered the THE SPICY TUNA AVOCADO SALAD. It had pieces of cubed tuna with a spicy mayo over lettuce and tomatoes topped with fresh sliced avocado. This salad had great flavor and the spicy mayo was a nice balance. One friend ordered EDAMAME , the other ordered BEEF NEGIMAKI. Sliced pieces of beef wrapped around fresh scallions and grilled with a soy, marin, sauce. It had lots of flavor and a great dish if watching your carbs or if you don't like sushi because it is cooked. My main dish I ordered was TIGER ROLL. Spicy tuna topped with tuna, salmon, yellowtail and crunchy topping. The spicy tuna really came through and the crunchy topping gave nice texture. My one friend is going carb free so she ordered NARUTO, no rice , no seaweed. Tuna, king crab, avocado wrapped in cucumber skin with sauce. She enjoyed her dish. My other friend is a vegetarian so she ordered EGG SUSHI, and VEGETABLE PAD THAI WITH TOFU. She enjoyed both dishes. I tried her pad Thai and it was excellent.AKIOU is a fusion restaurant and has Japanese, Thai , and some Chinese dishes along with fresh Sushi. There is plenty of free parking and has easy access. I gave AIKOU 4 stars instead of 5 because even though there wasn't a lot of people in the restaurant I felt a bit rushed. There was definitely a communication barrier. When the Edamame arrived my friend asked our waitress if they had smoked salts, lots of places offer that now with Edamame. We explained what it was three times and our waitress brought out a bottle of table salt that's not what we asked for so we let it go. My friend wasn't finished eating her dinner, and our waitress tried to take away her food. My friend said please leave it I'm not finished. Again, our waitress tried to take it away. My friend got frustrated and she just said take it away and she didn't finish the rest of her meal. I feel if you're going to be a waitress you need to speak and understand English to be able to communicate better and understand what the customer is asking. Our waitress was very nice and maybe too efficient but it definitely became an issue. We were full and didn't have dessert. The next time I come I want to try other sushi dishes and Mochi ice cream for dessert. I feel with more training this place can be 5 stars. read more

During these times you know what's better than eating at the restaurant.....having our order delivered by such a great delivery person and eating in my pj's! Not exactly impressed with this place. I went to Aikou for lunch with family. We ordered a dragon roll, cucumber roll, yummy yummy roll, sushi sashimi lunch special and a tempura udon soup. The dragon roll was mostly rice and didn't have the fish eggs that were shown on the picture on the menu. The udon was bland and had zero flavor and the vegetables tasted undercooked. I had the sushi sashimi lunch, which came with sushi sashimi and a spicy salmon roll. Other than the spicy salmon roll, the fish in my meal tasted very frozen (as if it were just defrosted). The yummy yummy roll was the only good part of the meal, spicy and tangy. For the price, I expected better quality. There are much better sushi places in this area of jersey. read more

We just had the worst sushi food in all of our years in this town. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes, the sushi arrived and was warm. The lo mein was cold. I called the restaurant and they told me it must've been the driver and that was all that she could say . Good luck because they won't be seeing us again. to add insult to injury I called after an hour, and she said oh yeah, the driver is on its way. I never badmouth a local restaurant but on this one they deserve it. Buyer beware. There was no apology. Good Asian Fusion in Warren. It is listed as Japanese but has a Chinese offering as well. Having now had both sides of the menu it seems to work well across the board. I came here a few years ago and it was way too pricey and upscale for what they were serving. There was already another sushi restaurant around the corner that served practically priced quality sushi so I think Aikou had to change a lot and they have. The prices are much better, affordable and the dishes are evenly matched with the prices. The decor is nice and the staff is fairly friendly and understanding. They have a good variety of food from other cultures too , including Thai curries and Chinese dishes. It is a good menu for sometimes not wanting all raw fish. It's good for a casual outing or a big get together. They even have the good quality green tea ice cream that is nice dark green so you get that tea bitterness in the flavor that so defines green tea. Although it has become the typical sushi-hybrid fusion restaurant with average prices, I give it 5 stars because of it. I can have good Asian food for a decent price and feel full or even have leftovers. I can come here repeatedly for this reason without worrying about being disappointed or burning my wallet. read more

I have been ordering from Aikou in Warren for years and every time I call in an order they are so rude. Specifically the male over the phone who just huffed and whined over my request to pay with a credit card over the phone. They have no patience and make you feel bad for trying to give them service. Totally rude. We came in with tons of time to eat and they made sure to let us know (repeatedly) that they were on a clock and that they were supposed to close. We left before the advertised closing time. You would think service would at least be human and passable, especially when the guests are willing to rush a little to accommodate the fact that the restaurant is closing. Just witnessed the entire staff walk out at 10:50 as we sit to write our reviews. So much for 11pm closing. Also...the food was ok I guess. Mr. Pi's is better and the overall experience is at the very least not negative. Go there instead. It's close enough that whatever time you might spend getting there you won't spend regretting all of your life choices. Again, there are much, much, much better options in the area. We went here for a work lunch b/c it was close by. Here were some of the good and the bad: Salad - fresh and dressing was delicious, but there was a puddle of water at the bottom of my plate (from lettuce being wet from washing?) Negema - cooked well but had no seasoning (salt), and was covered in thick sauce that didn't seem authentic to the dish Shumai - these were delicious Sushi - seemed okay, but I only had the California roll and those are hard to mess up I was not impressed and would not return on my own. read more

I will keep this review short and simple as I do not want to waste any more time on this atrocity of a restaurant. I love sushi. I know sushi. I have been fortunate to dine at Blue Ribbon and Nobu. I also lived in Japan for some time. That said, I am not a sushi snob. Hell, I will eat supermarket sushi as well as a hand roll from Nobu in NYC! Aikou is an atrocity. On a Saturday evening, we intended to eat at UpRoot, but without reservations we could not get in. Rather we stopped in to Aikou. Oddly enough, it was barely 2/3 empty. We should have taken this cue, but we sat down anyway. I ordered soup. It was tasteless and bland and served boiling hot. Next we ordered teriyaki steak, medium well. It arrived medium rare. The ¼ corn cob and carrot slices that accompanied the steak were literally dry as a napkin and looked as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. We sent the steak back. It re-arrived and was, like the corn and carrot slices, dry as a napkin. Furthermore, the presentation was akin to something you would receive on a plastic tray in elementary school lunch. It was unacceptable. Next, we ordered a spicy tuna roll, a peanut avocado roll and a salmon skin roll - all three rolls are rather basic, typical and easy for a respectable restaurant to pull off. Well, I was wrong. The spicy tuna roll was tasteless and poorly rolled, the salmon skin roll was extremely dry, fishy and gummy, the peanut avocado roll was (as pictured) utterly uneatable. Even the ginger was terrible! It had the consistency of a slimy banana skin and the taste of imitation ginger. As left I approached the manager and explained that the sushi was just plan "bad". This is exactly what she said to me, "we make our rice every morning!". I was incredulous. It was 8pm. Quite honestly, it surely tasted like the rice was made in the morning and aging the entire day under a heat lamp. The manager argued with me, and defended her food rather than listen to customer. On my way home I called a few friends and they reported the same experience over the years. They actually laughed at me for dining there - I scolded them for not telling to avoid this atrocity of a "sushi restaurant". Avoid, avoid, avoid! read more
