Great kind of hole in the wall spot in Fanwood Scotch Plains area that has excellent quality fish and sometimes some harder to come by things like good quality uni, toro, etc. Big portion of ikura sashimi and salmon sashimi cuts. The seared white tuna roll lacked white tuna that was seared. The spicy tuna tartar is actually just a huge scoop of their spicy tuna mix used for sushi. I've been going to Ginger for many many years. The ambiance is small, intimate and really nice for date night/small group. I enjoy their spicy kani salad and specialty rolls. The food is always fresh and the staff is always very kind. If I had complaints I feel sometimes the wait can be a bit long but hey that's why you bring a bottle of wine. It's a small crew and when the places is slammed I completely understand. I would also say the crunch/panko they put on a lot of the rolls seems too much. I enjoy the textural component as much as anyone but sometimes I feel it distracts from the flavor. I will continue coming back. read more

FAVORITE SUSHI SPOT EVER!! I come to Ginger Sushi pretty often with my family, but today I decided to bring some friends along to try it out for the first time! We went on a Friday afternoon and had no trouble finding parking in the back. We were greeted kindly by everyone and we didn't need to wait to be seated. The ambience was very clean and peaceful as well. My friend ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Special which came with sliced peppers, onions, carrots and a side of rice. The Chicken Teriyaki was amazing and the sauce was so flavorful! She also ordered the Yaki Udon and we were obsessed with how juicy the noodles and chicken tasted!! Then, I ordered my go to sushi order which consists of Shrimp Tempura, California, Sweet Potato, Avocado, and Cucumber Rolls. As always, the sushi always hits the spot and tastes DELICIOUS!! (My friend, who isn't much of a sushi fan, was raving about how good the sushi was!) Overall, my friends and I had a 5/5 experience at Ginger Sushi and loved how attentive our waitress was. Note that the lunch special includes the mains only... no soup/ salad/ etc. However they did give us half an ice cream mochi each. The sushi rolls were fairly good. Maybe a litte too much mayo, but not bad at all. Service was a little slow despite there only being 3 tables with customers (+ 1 guy getting takeout). It took a while between the time we arrived and when we finally received the food. The restaurant itself is very dated, and probably could do with a deep cleaning. The miso soup was better than average, but the salad was a disappointment. Pale iceberg that was somewhat saved by a very fresh ginger dressing. Only worth getting if you really, really want a salad. Edamame was good. I was a little suspicious when the sushi came, because the knife work on my roll looked less beautiful than I am used to on the West Coast. But once I opened my Oichii roll, I saw that inside it was beautiful, and it really was fresh and delicious. The salmon here is fresh and buttery like everyone has said. The avocado sushi was also excellent, very buttery Haas chunks. The chicken teriyaki and yakitori, I'm told, we're fine. We were brought a complementary order of deep-fried California roll, which I could have done without. (I don't get deep frying raw fish and think it's nasty). But we were Very pleasantly surprised to be brought complementary mochi ice cream afterwards. The vanilla and strawberry were both quite good. Before you judge, may I suggest: - Toro (Fatty Tuna). - Raw Scallop (ask to get it seared) - Baby Scallop (think of it as a buttery clam) I normally get the 3 above piece by piece, and finish with either the Ginie Roll or Lobster Roll (these two are best bang for your buck IMO). This way you get to taste some off-meta (something that's not you're everyday tuna or salmon) without breaking your bank. So glad I found this place. It's a typical sushi joint as far as decor and restaurant lay out. We were seated right away and noticed a lot of take out in addition to a full house. Sushi chefs were very skillful and all the workers were very friendly. Each sushi slices were cut for a perfect single bite. Try the Toro, Yellowtail, and Salmon! The Salmon Skin Handroll was so crispy and I wanted to order another one. We also tried the tempura and the batter was so delicious. Goes well with other nigiri. The Ginger's Special roll was filled with spicy tuna and avocado and seared ebi on top. Yum! They also serve brown rice for the brown rice lovers.
